Beginners ?'s,  Switching screens in keynote

Every time I'm in Duel Screen mode, Running Video out through an AV cable, I get the count down on the 2nd screen instead of on my mac. I want the Slide show on the screen and the monitor on my MAc. How do I set this up?

Though I've used Keynote a lot, by accident I discovered the "hidden secret" to this. I accidentally dropped my remote on the keyboard during a presentation. Instantly, the screens switched! Unfortunately, I didn't know what key(s) it hit to do that. After searching online awhile, I discovered two things. While in presentation mode, hit the '/' key. It pops up a window with all kinds of keyboard commands. One of those is the secret: hit 'x' and the screens switch! It's incredible! I've longed to be able to do this for several years.

  • Switch screen button in keynote 6.0

I had my first presentation today with Keynote 6.0. Everything was fine except at the conclusion I wanted to find out how to get to the other slides. I was checking the buttons at the top right and pushed what I now realize is "switch screen." Now what I should see on my computer (presenter view with slides) is what they see on the screen. I've looked everwhere and I can't find a 'switch screen'so that I can reverse it and when I'm in presenter mode, there's no way to find that. Any help would be much appreciated!

Thank you so much. I didn't know that shortcut and it fixed it right away. I was surprised that when I went back to the section that all of those slide were only a small portion of the page. It's almost like the white part of the slide got bigger so the actual slide information shrunk. Obviously I hit something in my frustration that changed the slide size, but luckily it will be easy to replace. Great response to my question and much appreciated!

Go to Keynote>Help>Show your Presentation>Use Presenter notes.
Also if you are using separate screens see Present on seperate displays

  • How to avoid slide rebuild when switching back to Keynote?

We're doing a presentation in which we occasionally Cmd-Tab switch from Keynote to Safari to demonstrate the features of a Web application. Many of our slides use the nice Keynote builds.
When switching back to Keynote, though, the slide being displayed rebuilds instead of simply appearing as it was when switched away. So if we show a slide that fades in three bullet points over 10 seconds, switch to Safari to show the feature we talked about, and then switch back to go on to the next slide, we have to wait for the entire 10-second build again.
We've tried using Spaces instead of Cmd-Tab to switch to Safari, but Keynote seems to grab on to all of the hotkeys. Ctrl-Option-Arrows and Ctrl-Option-Numbers during Keynote playback don't switch spaces, but change slides instead.
One clunky solution we're considering is adding a static (non-built) copy of each slide where we switch to the demo -- that is, we present over the build, then proceed to the copy before switching away. This might work, but if questions come up and we need to switch to Safari during any other slide with a build, we're still coming back to a repeated build.
Is there an option we've missed that prevents re-building the slide when Keynote "gets focus" again?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer!

I don't think you can go back to the end of a slide with builds - after the builds have finished. So your "clunky" solution, = some kind of similar workaround, may be your only option. I've just worked out another one which might work visually for you, but also "clunky".
The idea is to always go from your slide, wherever you happen to be in your presentation, first to a static slide which looks like a Safari window (made from a screen shot), and from there to real Safari. You can do this easily by adding a hyperlink on all your slides to that one (if you want it on all your slides, put it on the master). When you're done with real Safari you'll come back to the same faux-Safari slide. That's the easy part.
Now, you want to get back to the right place in your presentation. This is more complicated, depending on how many slides you have in all, or at least, slides from which you may want to go demonstrate Safari again. Put hyperlinks on your faux-Safari slide, each one leading to the slide you want to continue from, or even a link to each and every one of your slides. Obviously, this might be unworkable with a huge presentation, but, with a little graphic fiddling, and some presentation practice, it might work.

  • Unable to switch  screen mode from standard: PS CS5

Full screen with or without menus is grayed out in the view menu and the view dropdown selector from the menu bar. I have quit and re-entered PS and have reset all workspaces to default. I have checked that I'm working in 64 bit. I still cannot switch screen mode from standard. Last update was to 12.04. Last extension installed was photokit sharpener.
Thanks for any help. (PS, how do I reset preferences file on a mac?)

I posted this on another thread. See if this works:
    1) Uncheck "Backup previous version" in Keynote's Preferences.
    2) Make a duplicate copy of your file that has issues and save it.
    3) If you still get spinning wheels from switching between apps after editing or 10 seconds of inactivity, manually save with command+s. It may beach ball here but be patient and wait for it to finish! Try editing and resume doing work now.
Command+s may be a bit slow but I think that might be normal since the files are so big.
Good luck and let me know if this works.

  • Switching Screens Speed?

    Hello everyone again,
I'm pretty new to programming in Java and I'm getting an error in my program. The program runs fine but it's slower than I wanted. The Windows Consol does not give any errors. The program displays a title screen of a game I'm making with background music and a button. When the button is pressed, it changes screen to a 2nd screen which also has a button. The 2nd screen playes a different music and also has a button which exits when pressed. Pushing the Esc key exits out of the game, which is full screen. However, there seems to be a delay of 5 to 20 seconds every time I push the button to switch screens and whenever I start the program. Why is it doing this?
I have some ideas, but I'm not sure if they are right. I'm guessing that it really slows down because I need to buffer the images. If it's not the image that slows down the program, is it the SoundManager? Maybe it's something I'm not seeing, so please take a look and give out any suggestions.
    Thanks

I do agree... it could be the sound manager, cause if i am not wrong once the song/sound is loaded.. it is not garbarge collected when the new sound is loaded. Maybe you might want to ensure to get rid of the previous sound before loading the next one???

  • How do you make an iMovie HD movie full screen in Keynote presentation?

    Hey everybody, and Happy Holidays!
I have a presentation tomorrow morning where I will be using a VGA connector to a video projector to present my Keynote presentation. I have tried just about every way I know how to make my imported iMovie HD film full screen during the Keynote presentation, but so far the best I can do is making the slides the 1024 size, which still leaves a black background above and below the movie when it is playing.
Basically, what can I do to make my iMovie film full screen in Keynote?
    Thanks!
    -Randy

First off, I'd be a bit worried if the movie wouldn't play in Quicktime Player -- that's pretty odd, since QT is essentially what Keynote is using for playback as well.
If you have a new MacBook, then its display's "native" resolution is 1280 X 800, which is pretty much HD (which is 1280 X 720). By way of working through this, I'd first set your screen to 1280 X 800, and then set the slide size in Keynote to 1280 X 720 (which is one of the default sizes, precisely because it fits HD). If you do this, and if you set your movie as wide as it will go and centred, then it will leave 40 pixels at the top and bottom of the display when you play the presentation. There is no way around this, as it is simply the case that the height of the movie in pixels is less than the height of the screen. If you tried to fit the movie onto all of the screen, you'd either have to blow it up so that the top and bottom were at the screen edge, which would cut off the left and right parts of the movie (this is like what is done in "pan-and-scan" or "full-screen" DVDs of theatre films), or you'd have to "stretch" the movie vertically, which would distort it.
Complicating all of this is your projector. Even if it is just mirroring your display, if it is a digital projector, it too has its own "native" resolution, and unlike your MacBook, it is very unlikely to be a 16:9 ratio, but rather a 4:3 ratio (800 X 600, or 1024 X 768). So even if you hook up your 1280 X 800 MacBook, the projector will still at best project a squarer image, which may show up as narrow bands of darkness above and below your "mirrored" display.
In short form: there is no way to avoid the black bands -- they arise because the movie isn't as tall as the display, and there's no way around that.

  • IPad 2 side buttons no longer work after switching screen

My screen got cracked 4 months ago, but I still used it perfectly fine. Last week i paid a guy to replace my screen, after which, the side buttons (top switch, screen lock/mute, and volume buttons) stopped workiing. The home button is the only button that works. What is causing this and are there any apps i can download that can lock my screen with (so i can tilt is sideways without the screen shifting)? BTW, the guy who did the job said it's not his fault so i cant do anything on that end.

aThen a button will appear on your screen click that then it will give you a device option click on that and you can lock your screen turn the volume up and down and lock the screen rotation. Hope this helps!

Same here! Just a few days ago it started. Nothing will play from the cloud. Browsing the store works, streaming from a computer works, airplay works. Just none of my tv or movie purchases in the cloud.
I've reset it a few times. Ran the network test and it's passed every time. I've tried setting static ip and DNS info to no avail. I'm clueless. It almost feels like my ISP is blocking it but that's crazy talk.
Anything else to try? Tomorrow I'm going to hook it up to Ethernet and see what happens. As of now though, this is a mystery.

it's annoying to switch screens because i have to take control of the mouse to do it when hes usually doin something, so is there any way to switch back to my screen with the keyboard?

Do you mean "screens" as in Spaces or "windows" as in Finder or an application? For OS X shortcuts see Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts. For Spaces simply open its preference pane where you can see the currently assigned shortcut or assign your own.
