Beginning of track skips

I used to always have all my playlist windows displayed in the list view. But one day I got greedy and wanted that cool looking cover flow look. so I switched over and had iTunes "auto d/l missing artwork" shortly there-after my problem started occurring. Now when iTunes is transitioning between the song being played (s1) and the next song (s2), the next song (s2) skips and jumps at the beginning for a couple seconds. It happens on almost every song now, "except" the first song I click to start listening. Its unbearably frustrating, I have since switched back to the list view for my playlists, stopped the auto d/l for the album artwork and removed all the artwork that iTunes had acquired. I even went as far as uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it. (to no avail). I'm running 7.6.0.29, and constantly check for upgrades hoping that might correct this issue. but nothing is coming fast enough.
has anyone encountered a problem like this before? any ideas how to remedy this annoyance.

OK, if it's not one of the things I suggested, I don't think I can be much help. I don't see why using coverflow for a period should affect performance when you switch back to the norma view.
If you have cross fade on, I would try truning it off completely. The only other thing I can say is that there is a huge amount of opening and closing files going on around track change which can put an extra load on your system if resources are limited.
The only other thing I can think of to try is recreating your library. If you want to give that a go drag iTunes library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml to the desk top, then use the following article to recreate your library:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
If that doesn't make a difference, and I have little hope that it will, you can simply replace the new iTunes Library.itl with the old one you dragged to the desktop and you will be back as you were. Always have iTunes closed when you do anything to the library files.
Another remote possibility is deleting the preference files. This causes new ones to be created, but all your settings go back to default.
You may need to make hidden files visible
My Documents>Tools>Folder Options>View
Check Show hidden files and folders
-- Quit iTunes
-- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref and/or iTunesPrefs.xml
-- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref and/or iTunesPrefs.xml
For Vista the files are in:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
I have no real reason for these last two suggestions, except that the fact that the problem came on after using cover flow is odd and I wonder if something went wrong with the library/preferences.
You didn't make any other changes to your system around the time that you were using coverflow did you? Coverflow could be a red herring.

  • Mouse Tracking Skips With Matrox DualHead2Go

    Hey guys!
JUST got a brand spankin' new MacBook Pro. Fully loaded. i7, 8gb RAM, the works.
Yesterday I hooked it up to a brand new Matrox DualHead2Go and two Dell U2410 Displays. Worked like a dream. It's kind of annoying that the MBP sees the two displays as one because everything pops up in the center (middle of the two) by default, but I'll get over that. (unless you have a solution)
The real problem is my mouse tracking. I've tried it with my Magic Mouse, and with the trackpad, and with both, the tracking skips. I'll move the cursor in a circle and it'll skip ahead and sometimes move erratically. As soon as I unplug the displays, the tracking is perfect again. The weird thing is that yesterday it was working perfectly fine. I've tried rebooting with then plugged in, plugging them in after boot, unplugging and then plugging in while booted.
I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong and it's driving me nuts. Any help is super greatly appreciated.

So, after posting I tested by popping into Safe Mode and opening iTunes. When in safe mode, it doesn't act erratically, it works fine.
I called Apple and they said you're not supposed to use two external displays with a MBP (figured). But he was very helpful. He directed me to call Matrox and see what's up on their end and get back to him. If Matrox can't find a fix he said he'd forward on to iTunes engineers.
Meanwhile, though, I also saved the processes that were running in Safe Mode and compared to the processes that run when I boot into my login. There were quite a few differences on both sides. Safe had some things that werent running in my boot and vice versa. I killed everythign but background processes for 1Password and Little Snitch. Those two just pop back open after killing the process. Everything else running was Apple signed, yet the cursor was still acting erratically with nothing but iTunes open.
I have a feeling it's on Matrox's end, but if that's the case why is iTunes the only culprit?
    Thanks again for your help!
    M!

  • Track Skipping Issue/Queue Issue

I recently upgraded my iPhone 6 to iOS 8.4. Seemingly at random my Spotify will decide to not follow an album or an artists track listing. For example. Say I'm listening to Pink Floyd's The Wall and I'm just viewing the album. I am listening to the song "In the Flesh?" the next song should be "The Thin Ice" but sometimes my phone decides it will play a completely different song from the album like "Mother." This is not specific to playing through an album or an entire artist. I will also have an issue where if I select a song on the album that is not at the beginning of the album will skip back to the beginning of the album instead of to the next track. The other problem with this is sometimes a track will get stuck as the only track in the queue despite not having made any queue selections.
The only way I have been able to repeat this issue is if I go into an app that requires the mic (e.g., snapchat, camera) and Spotify does a forced pause or if I pause the track and then go into one of those apps.
I hope I am explaning this as clearly as possible. Hope I can get some help. This isn't an app-breaking issue, just a nuisance.

If you have not already done so, take a look at these articles. Please also look at links within the articles that may lead to more info.
Troubleshooting songs that skip on iPod
iPod does not play content purchased from the iTunes Store
Sorry if you have done all of the things shown. Since I do not work for Apple I can't begin to explain why you don't have a "simple fix". I can only assume that since technology is man-made then perfection does not and never will exist. It may be frustrating to deal with the glitches and problems that spring up but that's the way things go. Consider the fact that it wasn't that long ago when these little toys of ours didn't exist and we had to spend life excited with Walkman's (take it back old school...pre-CD walkman! lol).
On a more serious note...consider the possibility that the issue may not be the iPod itself but iTunes and the way it causes things to occur on the iPod. Another guess on my part...but it's a well known fact that a LOT of problems seemed to crop up with the introduction of iTunes 7 prior to the release of the 2nd gen nano. I've been a lucky one so far and not had most of the issues others have posted about on here. I am by no means a diehard Apple customer...iPods are the beginning and end of my consumer experience with the company. All I do is assume that if and when there is a problem the company will work at providing a solution that works...even though it may take a lot longer than I would like.
But I digress. Hope things work out for you.

  • Last played/play count - invalid if track skipped?

I've noticed that the play count/last played date does not update for songs I listen to partway through (and then skip to the next song). Is there any way to change this so that the play count is added to even if I hit "skip" halfway through a song?
    Thanks in advance.

No this behavior could not be custumized. The iTunes
have been programmed is that counters are updated
    when an audio files finish.
This is logic since you could not say that you had
listen a track that you had skipped. Only work
around to trick the counters will be to click on the
time bar just a few second before the end of the song
    insteand of skipping the song.
I'm sorry... I'm not doubting you, I'm sure you're right, but this leaves me totally confused. If this is true, then what exactly IS "Last Skipped"? I have smart playlists which should live update if I skip a song, but don't. When I use your method, and only play the first few seconds and last few seconds of a song, that counts as a "Last Played"
How can I include songs that I skip? Or am I misunderstanding "skipping"? You can't "skip" a song unless you play the beginning few seconds, can you?

  • Tracks skipping within the track in iTunes 11.1.5, Windows 7

I am currently having trouble with the tracks in my iTunes library skipping within the track as it streams, is there something I can do to resolve this?
Initially I thought it was just the songs that I bought through iTunes that were having issues but it seems to be any of the songs I listen to that is having this issue. Even if it is something I tried to reimport from CD. I have only been having this issue over the last two to three weeks.
I have Windows 7 HP and iTunes 11.1.5.
If this has been discussed before my apologies.

  • Sound cut off at beginning of track

When clicking on "Play Movie" button in menu, the transition takes place, then the DVD cuts to the movie. However, the first second or two of the sound is not heard. This seems to simulate properly, but when the disc is burned and played in a real DVD player, the cutoff of the sound takes place.
Is there any way to tell DVD Studio Pro to wait for a defined time after executing the transition, before beginning the play of the audio and video tracks?

You sure it's not the audio playback system you're using? I our studio the big system has some sort of buffer. No matter what I do the first couple of seconds of audio are cut off. That's the only place it happens, out of thousands of DVDs played.
You can sneak a piece of black video with silence and place it in front of your primary video right in the track. Pretty foolproof.

  • Music track skipping and playing silence on iPhone

Some music tracks play sections of silence, others are skipping randomly like a scratched record. This happens when playing on the built-in speakers or on headphones. Tracks affected can be either CD imports or iTunes purchases.
I have the latest iTunes update, I have iOS4, I have re-synched, restored the phone multiple times, checked my hard drive... What can be the cause of this? I am prepared to do whatever it takes to solve the problem but I have run out of ideas. The Genii Apple Store have no idea what's causing it.
iPhone is proving not to be viable as a music player. I now have to carry my old iPod in addition to my iPhone if I want music.
    anyone? please ??

MP3 is a lossy compression - the more you do it the more your music tracks will degrade. Re-encoding the songs which have already been encoded will gradually reduce the quality (much the same as photocopying a photocopy). If you really need to re-encode something it's best to take it from the source, i.e. rip from CD again.
Obviously this would be a bit time consuming for all your tracks, but I think if you really had to do this with your entire music collection every time iTunes is upgraded there must be something seriously wrong with iTunes.
If you have track problems there's probably something in your computer software which is conflicting with the processes going on in iTunes. In my case it appears to be my antivirus. Do a bit of detective work and try switching a few things off to narrow it down, but you shouldn't have to go through a laborious process of re-encoding which will eventually degrade the quality of your music.

  • Strange Problem: 25 seconds into track, skips to the end?

I'm having a weird problem where, 25 seconds into the track, iTunes skips to the end of the track, and my iPod just stops playing it (like I paused it without it being paused). What strikes me as really odd about it is that it's only one two tracks. I haven't found another one where it does the same thing. I downloaded the mp3s from eMusic, and they are both sequential songs in that album. I've tried re-downloading both of them, but that didn't work. I will also note that the files play just fine in Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic, leading me to believe it's an iTunes/iPod specific problem. Anyone have any idea?

Restore the iPod and reload the songs.
See this: Restoring the 5th generation iPod (iPod with video).

  • Music stutters at beginning of track in iTunes

I'm using iTunes 9.2 on a Mac Pro with 14gb of RAM, running 10.6. Lately it has a habit of stuttering right at the beginning of a track, and this is occurring on pretty much every song it plays now.
What will happen is the song will play for about two seconds, then the sound cuts out for about a half second, then it plays through the rest of the track without incident. And this issue is happening very consistently. Does anyone have any ideas?

I too have this issue but it's with music videos. Any way of improving performance?

  • Mediasource 5.10.38 mp3 track skipping prob

    Hi !
I'm having a problem with Mediasource 5 since I upgraded to it.
I was listening to mp3s of a stand up show by Henry Rollins, and Mediasource kept skipping to the next track even though there was still a minute or so of the track left to play.
When I skip back to the track and drag the cursor, it plays the track fine, but the problem starts again with the next track...
It didn't do that on every track, it only did it on tracks that are 7 minutes long minimum.
I checked if everything was off (svm, crossfade...) and everything was.
I ripped those mp3s from my CD with Mediasource, so I really have no clue what's going on.
    Any clue ?

Are you playing the track from MediaSource's PC Music Library or from MediaSource's My Computer?

  • I-pod music problem (track skipping)

I recently came across this error. I imported an album to Itunes and then transferred it to my Ipod. While listening to the album it came to one track and then skipped over it, without even playing it. I immediately thought I might've not clicked the song to be imported but the track played fine on my Itunes Library, as well as on my Ipod section in Itunes. I'm at a loss at what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Any luck on this problem. I just started experiencing this problem today. Let me know what you come up with.

  • Track skipping

I have 2 IPOD's with 280+ tracks on them, all tracks in one ITunes library. One of the tracks works fine on my wifes IPOD but on mine the track gets about 2 mins into it and then skips towards the end? The track is fine on the library, sync'ed using the same library; but skips on mine only. I have tried deleting the track and putting it back on again, no change. Does anyone know what may be causeing this, or is my IPOD faulty?

    Hi Jason
    1) IPOD software 1.0.2
    2) The track that is skipping is one that we use for prayers (we are both practising Buddhists)only about 3-4 minutes long! There are only about 250 tracks on it, 6.3GB free.
3)After first connecting the Ipod and updating the software including ITunes it started.
    4) Only noticed it on this one track, but could be on others also.
    5) Both bought at the same timw from a national chain of UK stores.
    6) I have also noticed that one of the albums cannot be sorted in the correct track order using ITunes, when you 'drag' and try to 'drop' it leaves it in the original position.
    Thanks for your feedback

  • Exported audio tracks are not starting from beginning of track

    I have GB '08.
I export recorded podcasts (i actually make language learning CDs using an external mic) so each track ends up at between 20 sec or say 2 mins, to an Itunes playlist. I may play a track, and then click on another, by double clicking as is usual in itunes to start a new track, EXCEPT that it starts the new track at the place it was last time when it was played, even if it is its first time played in itunes, but was listened to some point whilst in garage band.
so the tracks dont start at the beginning of the track but rather where they were left off when last listened too. This happens also on my ipod with those tracks and i have to manually drag a track's progress bar back to the beginning to hear it from its start.
This is a disaster for my product. Is it a bug or is it a setting? Please help urgently.
    Many thanks, Craig

Hi christoph, this is one of those headbangers.
the AAC and mpeg or exported as mp3 files both do it, which yes, is totally weird.
So, i can get the context menu, right clicking or cntl click, but what option is there to set it to new, as you suggest.
    Thanks for your efforts
