Beginning Titles

I am making a movie for my Dad's birthday and want to start it with just titles to music. Then photos vid clips etc..... It looks great in the little screen, but when I want to view full screen it just goes black and stays that way. I then have to hit F11 or 12 so I can close imovie 09 to do anything pleasehelp

The Button Transition, that Stanley mentions, is not that difficult to do.
I'd just either setup a new Project in PrPro, or create new Sequences in your existing Project, and do the Title Fade UP/DOWN for each Button Transition Video. Keep the names short, with no spaces, or special characters, but named so that you know what each is, say "Button_01, Button_02," etc.
Export each of those Sequences as either a DV-AVI, or MPEG-2 DV file, and do NOT create a Timeline for them in Encore (Import as Asset). Just pickwhip to each Button Transiton file, in the Project Panel.
This is very effective, and should do exactly what your client wants.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Adjusting the beginning title of a thread

I was wondering if the moderators could add the work "audible noise" to the beginning title of the following thread to help clear up the difference between signal noise and the actual "audible noise" being experienced by the users posting here. In talking to people, they are seeing "noisy" as denoting a signal, not the actual problem of hearing a buzzing sound coming from the AEBS unit itself.

  • Title Card is Blank at Beginning of Video?

    Hello,
With the past few videos I've created lately in Adobe Premiere Elements 7, I start the video with a few words on a title card before it launches into video/voiceovers, etc.
However, after I export the video and upload it to the "channel" we use to stream our videos, when played back, the beginning title card either doesn't show the text at all or shows it for a half-second and then the screen goes black before the video starts properly. The rest of the video and title cards work just fine. It's just the beginning title cards taht don't show up.
Any suggestions on how to fix it? I've tried deleting and recreating the card, recreating the entire video, created the card in Photoshop and inserted it as an image... but nothing seems to fix it.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum.
As a test, go to the New Icon in the Project Panel, and choose Black Media. This will be created at the Duration, that is set in Edit Preferences, but that does not matter. In the Project Panel, Dbl-click on that new Black Media, to open it in the Source Monitor. There, set the Out Point to the 02 sec. mark. Now, drag that 02 sec. Black Video to the front of the Timeline, and in the Video Track with your Title. Everything else shoudl Ripple, to accommodate that 02 sec.of Black Video. Then, just add a Cross-dissolve to the junction between the Black Video and the Title. Export/Share and test. Does that get you the full Duration of your Title?
    Good luck, and please report,

  • How to create a Video longer than 15 minutes?

It seems a though I can only create a 15 minute long video in Premiere Elements 11.  Is there a way to create a longer video?  I have many clips and the total time is about 40 minutes.

    John
    Thanks for the reply.
I have thought about how to get the Premiere Elements Instant Movie to produce what would appear to be a more than 15 minutes end product with
and without some maneuvers of the Timeline features.
    So far...
    1. In principle, divide your 40 minutes of source media into about 3 parts...each part with consecutively placed source file.
    2. Bring the ordered Part 1 sources from Project Assets, to the Timeline, apply Instant Movie after you have selected your theme and set up the Personalize Movie dialog.
    3. Clear the completed Part 1 Instant Movie file (not folder) from the Timeline and rename its thumbnail in Project Assets to read Part 1.
    4. Bring the ordered Part 2 sources from Project Assets to the Timeline, apply Instant Movie after you have selected your theme and set up the Personalize Movie dialog.
    5. Clear the completed Part 2 Instant Movie file (not folder) from the Timeline and rename its thumbnails in the Project Assets to read Part 2.
    6. Repeat 4 and 5 for ordered Part 3.
    7. Then look to Projects Assets and drag the thumbnails named Part 1, 2, and 3 to the Timeline to export consistent with your project's project settings.
Clean ups....note that, with defaults, you will have a title at the beginning and end of each Instant Movie.
Focus points....Part 1, beginning title OK, but do not want closing title yet.
Part 2, no beginning and ending titles wanted.
Part 3, no beginning title wanted but closing title wanted.
Part 2 can be taken care of in Personalize Movie/Theme Content by removing check mark next to Title.
Part 1 and 2....use Premiere Elements command "Break Apart Instant Movie" and remove the unwanted titles
or use the scissors tool on the intact Instant Movie.
As indicated evaluate the transitioning between Parts 1, 2, and 3.
    Please review and consider.
Any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thank you.

  • IMovies Quality problems..

Hi All.. Looking for some help -
Started to use iMovie to create a slideshow of pics and the various effects available but seem to be having some quality issues when i play back...
when I'm chosing the titles (this is imovie '06) the examples look all crisp and of high quality, the same when I first import a picture. BUT
If i then try and run the slideshow in either the demo box on screen or by making it full screen the quality is rubbish! Straight lines on pictures are all jagged and look bad quality - not at all like the original images, and the beginning title words look rubbish, not at all crisp like they were when I picked that style etc. If I change the colour of the words then on playback there is a white halo round the colour. Basically it looks really bad and poor quality
What am I missing? The fact they come up crisp and nice to begin with then goes crap when i play back is vexing me.. I have the macbook with 2.16 processor. I have tried changing the quality in preferences up and down but no luck.
Sorry for the long message and if this is a stupid question but I can't find the info in the help section.
I had posted this in the iMovie help forum but it seems very quiet in there..
    Thank you for any help!
    Sam

Try exporting and seeing how it looks.
I'm no expert in iMovie, as I usually use FCP, but it seems like iMovie doesn't show full quality on it's playback window. Try an export, it may help diagnose the problem.

  • Writing Academy Leader

Hello, all. I'm getting ready to score my feature in Logic. I want to have a QT video with the movie's first frame (beginning titles and music) timecode at 01:00:00:00. This will only be a video export. No audio, as I am planning on OMFing my audio into Logic seperately.
I know how to stripe (by putting a timecode read effect on the film). However, I went to the manual to put a 10 second count down in front of my pre-01:00:00:00 slug, and it seems to say that you have to go to the Edit To Tape function. Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but 1) I actually DON'T want to edit to tape. I only want to figure out how to put a 10 second count down on my QT export for scoring purposes in Logic. Also, 2) even if I DID want to use the Edit To Tape function . . . well . . . it's greyed out anyway.
Okay . . . so sorry for the long post, but can someone instruct me as to how to put a countdown timer/Academy Leader at the beginning of my movie export?
Thank you very much everyone in advance,
    Javier Calderon

Okay . . . I just did a search for "Academy Leader", and it seems the information I'm looking for is right in there.
    Sorry to belabour.
    Thank you all.

  • I'm a begginer

OK, I know how to put up movies and do different scenes, but i don't know how to make one clip go into the next. Also, i want to have a title to pop up before the movie, and i know how. But when i play the movie... the title does not show. I want to also be able to put little subtitles in between specific clips like... "Clip one, then a subtitle... then clip two... then another subtitle." How do I doe these things?

    Hi, Josh,
I don't know how to make one clip go into the next.>
When you put your movie clips down on the time line, they will play sequentially.
If you know how to make a beginning title for your movie, it should appear at the beginning when you play your movie. If you want titles on black clips at the beginning of your movie and between your clips, be sure to check 'Over Black.' You can also choose the color for the titles, the font and the size. Use 'Preview' to see what it will look like.
After you type the text for the title, select its duration using the slider under the little preview box at the upper right. Then, drag the title to the timeline so it can render. You will not be able to view titles until after they have been rendered. Do not drag the text, drag the little square T box next to the TYPE of title you have chosen; for example, 'Subtitle' or 'Centered' or 'Bounce to center.' When you drag the title type to the timeline to position it where you want it, you will first see the clips jump a little just drop the title between the clips and then wait for the red rendering line to go away. Then play the movie to see if it is the way you want the titles to be.
If you want the titles to go over the clips, not on their own black clips, uncheck the 'Over Black' box. You may have to change the duration of the title to be sure it is the same as or less than the duration of the clip on which you wish to place it.
Post back if this is not clear, or not what you are asking.

  • Trouble making the text in scrolling credits (made on Final Cut Express) export clear and not fuzzy

I am having difficulty making the text in the scrolling credits in Final Cut Express clear and not fuzzy. I went under effects, then clicked video generators, then text, then scrolling text to get the scrolling credits working. I tried using the Chroma Keyer effect and the Color Key Effect. These work on captions on video and beginning titles but not the scrolling text. All of those were made on livetype so maybe that is why. I would really appreciate some help. I've been working on this all day. I was on the technical support line for about 40 minutes and they told me there is no more help given over the phone for Final Cut Express and that I should go on here and see if anyone can answer my question. I looked on all the forums and there was nothing on this subject. Thanks.

The software is not doing what it should be doing.  We have all had this type of problem.  It is nearly always somehow in the way the software is being used.  Look at your added Chromakey and color key.  You must be doing something that the FCE does not like.  Open a new project and new sequence and try the exact same thing.  (I use titles from LiveType and from the effects tab and have no problems)

the results i get a odd. - the video exports fine, except for the beginning titles, instead a still frame image from somewhere else in the video occupies that intro, until the first transition- in this case- dip to white, then the rest of the video is fine. the portion of the beginning  that does not show are composed of:  livetype text credits in V2 - in which i have done a manual opacity fade up and down - so the livetype text fades in, over matte color solid in V1. in the exported video -i do not see any of this, all i see is a seemingly random still from somewhere else in the video. i can however hear the audio as it is supposed be.
cant figure out why this is happening. anybody know?
    i think the livetype files are 1920 x 1080.
my FCP sequence is 720 p
this has only recently started happening and doesn't seem to be consistent.
im wondering if it has to do with the live type files, or the white solid?…
    or the conversion settings above?

    Alistair
Earlybird is exporting H264 ... the Key Frames setting is determining the GOP length. This value should really be determined based on the complexity of the video, to my understanding, the actual frame rate has no bearing on it. If you have very complex fast moving content then a low Key Frame rate is advisable to ensure good image quality (although it will adversely affect the filesize) whereas if you have slow moving or static content (like an interview subject) then a higher Key Frame rate will still produce a good image but at a smaler filesize. The default of 24 should be pretty much fine as a catchall starting point.
    Earlybird
Corrupted render files (and render references) can be a pain because FCP will use those files and references  in place of the original media when building the export. And so it should as it does't want to waste time re-rendering sections that are apparently already rendered. Unfortuantely, as noted, if the render file has gone bad and/or starts referencing the wrong media then you'll get these wierd flashes of completely unexpeced and unwanted footage showing up where it shouldn't be. When you trash those files then QT / FCP will just go back and re-reference the original media ... so it's usually a worthwhile step to take just in case thats the problem.  The worse case scenario is that it only that doesn't work and you spend some time unecessarily re-rendering.
As to why these files go bad? That I don't know. Why do Preferences get corrupted? That I don't know either but it definitely happens :-(
    Cheers

  • IMovie: Adding "Ratings," Actors, Actresses, etc...

I'm putting together some videos for the family, and I thought it'd be a neat "easter egg" for the fellow Macheads if they were to view info on the movies in iTunes, then see where the movie was rated (PG, etc.), the "actors" and "actresses" listed, and so on.
However, I can't seem to see any way to add that information to the movies iMovie exports to iTunes.
Are only certain formats able to display those tags?

Sorry about the late response to your message, but I've been away for a while (visiting grandson).
To place a title at the beginning of your movie, drag the title name (in the list of titles - not the actual text you've typed) before the first clip. I'm assuming that you want the title "over black" and you've checked the appropriate box. You can also insert a black clip in front of the title - go to the Timeline View and simply drag the title to the right. Go back to the Clip View - double click on the black clip and in the dialogue box that appears you can change the clip duration and colour (if desired). If your inserted title already fades in (some do), you will have a nice transition from black to your title, otherwise just use any transition you desire between the black clip and title.
Use the same method to place a title (over black) at the end of your movie - simply drag the title name to the end of the movie (i.e., after the last clip). The title will not disturb any fade out on the last clip - likewise a beginning title will not affect any fade in you may have on your first clip. Note that you can amend titles by clicking on the title then making changes to text font, colour, style, duration etc. - then clicking on the "Update" button - this will re-render the title.
The best way to work with titles (or any feature) is to experiment. Set up a short test movie and try different methods. I use a test movie quite frequently to check out new ideas and features - you don't have to save, just quit without saving.
Hope this helps David. You've probably figured out most of this by now anyway, given the elapsed time since your post!

  • Adding Credits to movie's end?

I'm new to iLife '05 and haven't found what I'm looking for. I guess I could fake it using some of the more lengthy titles from the title menu but is there any way to add full-blown credits (actors, location, sound editing, grip, etc.,) to the end of an iMovie either through iMovie or a plug-in?

  • My advice is to stick with version 3

My advice is to stick with version 3.
I find that v4 is strictly for complete beginners.
If youve done any editing before youll find it ridiculous .
Most of the things you want to do and did before are hidden and hard to find unless you look them up in help.
I put it on and soon abandoned it and went back to v3 ( or even v2) which are far better editing programs.
Do what you like but if your looking for an improvement your wasting your money with v.4
Bob Dutru ( retired abc news cameraman)

    Exactly !!
Me use this application primarily for dumping footages from my camcorder to the PC and then trimming off the bad portions, Adding Begin title and Close title and Backing it up back to different set of tape [[[ And also shifting on DVD.
But, yes when I start adding effects / transitions, the properties window comes handy. But even then -invoking the properties panel is not as painful as most of the guys describe here. Definately not important enough to ask others to NOT to upgrade.
I would site an example of the Dual monitor stuff of version 2 (I guess ??), the 'seperate''always visible'preview monitor and edit Monitor was very helpful and I used to complain about it all the time, but with every new version there is always some change.
Definaltely - the guys out at adob must be doing enough research before putting up the final product to the user.

  • Simplest way to display a title or caption at the beginning of each scene?

I am editing a video to make an instructional dvd covering 23 separate lessons. Without some kind of text in the first few seconds of each scene, there is no way for the viewer to quickly and efficiently distinguish one scene from another as they jump forward or backward from scene to scene. They would have to go back to the main menu between each scene to find the one they're looking for, and that's cumbersome.
I would like to add a caption/title (not sure what the technical Adobe term is -- I'm obviously an amateur) to the screen at the beginning of each scene. It can be a text overlay on top of the video, or it can be a blacked out screen (or whatever) with text that lasts a few seconds before each scene begins. I just need something to let the viewer know which lesson they are about to see.
I went through the footage and added scene markers at appropriate places, and the menu is functional. Now I'm looking for the most efficient (least time-consuming) way to accomplish my goal. It looks like one alternative is to manually split the clips at each scene change, then go to sceneline and insert a title between each scene, then manually type in the text that corresponds to my description of each scene. I hope this isn't the only, or the most efficient way.
Anyone know a simpler alternative? The simpler the better, as only a few people will be using the dvd so I don't want the cost (measured in editing time and effort) to outweigh the benefit of viewer convenience. Thanks in advance.

I agree with Steve G. on adding the Titles from the PrE Titler function. Also, being new to PrE, this article on Titler might be useful, before you get tripped up by a few aspects of a New Title: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4976998#4976998

  • Titles at the beginning of chapters?

I'm working on a DVD of a concert performance. The performance is continuous and I'm marking chapters at the beginning of each song. The client has asked if a title can fade up and down when a chapter is selected, to appear before the song. The client doesn't want these titles to appear in the actual performance timeline.
Is Encore able to do something like that?
    Thanks for your help.
    Jessica

    Good luck,
    Hunt
