Behavior / Impact Upgrading N5K to FEX (reboot?)
Good Day
I am wondering how the behavior is if upgrading Nexus 5500 with connected FEX.
The setup is:
2 Nexus 5596 (vpc roles primary/secondary)
Many FEX 2248 / 2232 connected to the 5596. Every FEX with one link to the primary and one link to the secondary.
- Is it fact that after I will do a SW Upgrade on 5596 all the FEX will reboot after receiving the new image ?
- Will this occur a second time after SW upgrading the 2nd 5596 ?
- What's the behavior if the 2 5596 do not run same version (while upgrading it will be so for a moment, maybe this could stay a longer time) ?
If 1) is true, so all the redundant design is useless while upgrading...
Thanks for answer
The upgrade behavior for dual homed FEX is described in the upgrade guide below. If you follow the process in the guide the FEX will be rebooted once, after the primary switch is successfully upgraded. You initiate the FEX reboot when you are ready.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/upgrade/521_N1_1/n5k_upgrade_downgrade_521.html#wp641802
Depending on your topology and your current version you may be able to do an ISSU rather than the disruptive upgrade, the prerequisites are listed in the document. You can also test whether you can do an ISSU with the "show install all impact" command. The command will tell you what the impact of your upgrade will be before you do it, and will verify what components need to be upgraded.
As to your third question, yes the two switches can run a different NX-OS during the upgrade. But you should always review the release notes for your new version just to double check compatibility between your specific releases.

A previous upgrade was not completed!
Rebooting does not work.
Can't even uninstall 3.6.18. Get the same '"must reboot'" message. If files already have been downloaded then you need to remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.
You can delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Uninstall your current Firefox version.
* Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Login Screen freezes after Lion 10.7.2 upgrade - needs 3 hard reboots
Just upgraded my 21.5" late 2009 iMac to OS X Lion 10.7.2.
0. Power up from cold start: login screen appears, and mouse works, but clicking on users does not bring up the password box. No option except for hard reboot.
1. Hold down power button until it shuts down. Power up, still no respponse (see 0.).
2. Hold down power button until it shuts down. Power up, still no respponse (see 0.).
3. Hold down power button until it shuts down. Power up, responds normally, can login (or start computing if login screen is bypassed).
I saw messages (mostly for MacBook Pros) dating back to July/August 2011 with similar problems. But none for 10.7.2, and none where it consistently takes 3 hard reboots to get a response. I tried all of the suggestions that applied: SMC reset, repair disk permissions, change password, bypass login screen. If I use automatic login, it boots up into my desktop and all the services seem to start. The mouse works, but nothing responds when I click on it (see 0.).
Any ideas?
thanks,
davidThanks lynque. It turns out I did need a keychain repair, but that didn't fix the problem. I probably should have done this earlier, but I ended up unplugging all peripherals (2 firewire + 3 USB) then powered up without issue.
So I shut down, plugged in one at a time, and ran into the problem again after plugging in an external hard drive (WD My Book Essential). I repaired with disk utility, but the problem remained.
I then rebuilt the partitions with Disk Warrior, and now everything seems to work.... -
Upgraded but keep getting reboot message upon reboot?
Please someone help me! I started seeing fishy stuff happen so I thought I would re-install mozilla-firefox was running 3.6 version, went to upgrade it asked me to reboot to make the changes go into effect. Upon rebooting I have the same message and nothing happened almost like its stuck in a loop! I have tried every method to reboot my computer even shutting down leaving it for at least 10 mins start back up try to open firefox! Boom same error messege "
Have a look at the solution to a similar problem: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/921375?s=%22Your+computer+must+be+restarted+to+complete+a+previous+upgrade+of+Firefox.+Do+you+want+to+reboot+now%3F%22&r=0&e=sph&as=s
If that doesn't work, you can uninstall FF and do a clean install. You'll prob lose your bookmarks, history, etc, though, so if you do this set up Sync first! https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-firefox-sync-and-how-do-i-use-it -
Strange Client Behavior after upgrading to 10g
Hello Friends !!!!
Here is my scenario:
Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.3
Windows 2008 Server SP2
After upgrading from oracle 9.2.0.1.0 and Windows 2003 Server I'm facing a strange behavior.
Many times over the days some machines do not release some table resources even having their status "INACTIVE" and the wait event "SQL *Net message from client" and wait class "IDLE".
Therefore, i got a lot of locked sessions, and users complaining..... until I kill them
The client machine was as well switched to Oracle 10g client....
Have you guys got any tips about this scenario?
Tks for any advice.About the lock queue:
1. blocking session has an exclusive table lock on VENDEDORES table; this is very rare in application because most of the time not needed: application code should try to avoid to take such kind of lock.
2. blocked sessions request a row share table lock: it looks like that VENDEDORES table is a child table linked to some parent table with a foreign key constraint and that an index on the child table foreign key is missing (this kind of lock is requested if you DELETE from parent table or update parent table primary key).
About the lock session: this is the blocking session that is waiting since 19 seconds on client: it is likely an application issue: you should try to investigate what the client (aservice.exe) is doing while holding an exclusive table lock. -
Impact upgrade copied Roadmap.
Hello,
We are investigating in using our own Roadmap. It will be a copy of the ASAP Implementation Roadmap and will have new structure nodes with related project documentation.
At the moment we are using the ASAP Implementation Roadmap V3.0 Sep 2005 and SOLMAN 3.2 service package 12. Soon we will be upgrading our Roadmap and in the near future we will be upgrading to Solution Manager 4.0.
Can anybody tell me :
1. If you upgrade our Roadmap what will happen with the Roadmap which we have created? Will the new structure nodes be gone? and what will happen with the documentation? Do you need to recreate the Roadmap again?
2. The same questions in case of upgrading Solution Manager?
Hope to hear from you?
regards,
RalphHi
All The Delta queues should be cleared before Upgrade.
Some of the Extractors will have impact, not sure depends.
You must prepare a Check list before Upgrade with the Data Upload time and After upgrade Upload time.
Hope it helps -
Received my blackberry curve 9360 back from repair today, and due to the nature of the fault with my phone I was sent another device. Everything started up and was working fine, setup worked great and I upgraded to 7.1 and it was all fine. Then I went onto App World and downloaded the latest version which worked. However when I came to trying to download some apps and upgrades for instance the latest blackberry messenger upgrade, the installation would progress until it was complete and upon the installation bar reaching the end my device would reboot. After the reboot I find that the upgrade hasn't been performed and that it was never installed.. This keeps happening over and over again.. How can i fix this? it's incredibly frustrating as I can't upgrade or install any applications!
Thanks to anyone who can help!Hey ChrisWatkins93,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Thanks for the question.
How much free memory is on the BlackBerry® Curve™ 9360 smartphone? Go to Options>Status to find this information.
To determine if this a operating system issue, I suggest following all the steps in this KB article: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB11320
Then test out BlackBerry App World™ afterwards to see if the issue is resolved.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Cheers.

Hi,
Upgraded to Yosemite. After upgrade seems you have to reboot to switch to the guest account. Is this configurable to allow a simple switch as used to work?
Since a reboot takes a while this is painful.Linc,
This was it. I also had to switch off File Vault via the Security & Privacy tab.
Thanks for that.

Very Strange Internet Access Behavior After upgrade to systemd
Currently I'm having very strange issues with my wireless connection. Currently, if I connect using netcfg to a wireless access point, I have the following behavior:
1. chromium can connect to any website
2. thunderbird can send/receive emails
3. curl, firefox and opera can connect to some https sites but not http (yes: https://www.facebook.com, https://bbs.archlinux.org, no: https://archlinux.org, https://github.com)
4. wget does not connect, neither does pacman -Syu
after I upgraded to systemd, I was getting errors because of groups, so I removed extra groups. Here's what I have now:
There is currently no rc.conf in /etc
$ id ambantis
uid=1000(ambantis) gid=100(users) groups=100(users)
$ id root
uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root),1(bin),2(daemon),3(sys),4(adm),19(log),1000(wheel)
If I try to remove the wheel group, then netcfg does not allow me to connect, neither can I connect manually with wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd
Here's the output of $ systemctrl

The only error I see is with ntpd, and I believe it is because it can't access the internet connection. -
Firefox 4 new upgrade won't recognize reboot.
I've just completed upgrading to Firefox 4. As usual it asked me to reboot to complete the install. I've rebooted & shut down twice & it still give me the message that I have to reboot when I try to open it. I also tried reinstalling it & uninstalling it, both with the same result.
When you say that your computer doesn't recognize your Belkin router, do you mean that your computer lost Internet connectivity after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4.7?
If so, can you get a friend to bring over a computer and try to connect to the Internet through your router? That would eliminate whether the router was to blame or not. It might also pay to power cycle your router.
On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Network > Built-In Ethernet and check to see if you're actually getting an IP address from the router (assuming that you've configured it for DHCP). You can select Built-In Ethernet and click on configure to see how it's actually configured. On the first tab, TCP/IP, you probably want to have Configure IPv4 configured to Using DHCP. Close all of those windows and as an extra precaution, reboot your machine and see if that gets you back online. -
After upgrading to Yosemite iMac reboots random reboots randomly
After upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite, my mid-2011, 21.5 inch iMac (1tb HD, 8 gb memory) is plagued with random reboots. There are never any error messages - reboots seem more frequent when my Time Machine external drive is attached. I thought I had solved the problem after reading an article about Chrome browser (which I'd been using) using an inordinate amount of memory & CPU resources, so I switched from using Chrome to Safari. Switching to Safari seemed to resolve the issue yesterday, but today my computer is back to random reboots although it doesn't seem as frequent using Safari (only 3 reboots so far today),
I booted the iMac into Safe Mode & worked for several hours including making a Time Machine backup without any reboots. I've also run a hardware & hard drive check which showed no problems.
So, I'm at a loss -- if I use Safari & keep my Time Machine backup unplugged it seems I can work with only 3 or 4 reboots & hope they don't occur in the middle of some transfer or other work -- at the end of the day when I am finished working, I can attach my external drive & hope the backup completes before a reboots occurs. Very frustrating.
Any suggestions?
Thanks. The following are the messages in the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES log just prior to one of the random reboots that has been plaguing my iMac. These messages were repeated several times in the log. For reference, I have removed the Sophos AntiVirus software from my computer prior to this instance of a random reboot (I see a reference to Sophos in the messages). Also, I had reset the PRAM & SMC settings prior to this last restarts as well.

We have two email accounts with virginmedia. After a day of intermittent messages yesterday, today my wife's email cannot connect to server. Had no problems before. Tried rebooting iPad and switching off and on the wifi to no effect.
FYI, this is a user to user technical support forum.
No one from Apple monitors, reads, or responds here.
Try the following:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network settings
If the Wi-Fi is still not working, basic troubleshooting from the Users Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
The vast majority of users upgrade with absolutely no issues. -
Confusing behavior with upgraded RAM
Hi All,
I Upgraded the RAM of my MacMini (1.66Ghz Intel) about 3 months ago. I swapped out the 2x512MB for 2x1GB DDR2 667Mhz Corsair RAM. The RAM was recognized and I had not had any problems until this weekend. I don't reboot this machine much, but I had installed a printer driver and the installer wanted a restart. After restarting, OS X says it only sees 512MB in one of the two RAM slots (the first one), the other is listed as 'empty'.
This is really confusing because I would think it would either recognize 1GB or nothing, how could it only recognize half the memory of one of the DDR2 slots? Don't really want to open it up again, and I have already tried zapping the PRAM but no change.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
AlexHi AndyO,
Thanks again. Ok, So I'm starting to think it's some kind of hardware problem. Here are the tests I did.
First I removed one of the two 512MB, and it booted and showed 512. Next I installed 1GB + the 512 that was present, it did not boot at all. Next I removed both and installed a single 1GB in the lower slot. It booted and showed 1GB of ram. Next I added the second 1GB and it would not boot. Finally I put the 1GB that caused it not to boot, in the lower slot alone and it booted and showed 1GB. This leads me to believe the ram is not the problem. It seems to be the paired RAM since, when I put a single chip in the upper slot it would also boot.
So, is this the most likely problem? either the slot itself or the board? Seems like it wouldnt want to boot if the board had a problem but thats just my guess. Any more ideas would be helpful. Right now I am running a Single 1GB chip untill I can figure out this issue.

OS4 upgrade = error 29 then reboot every few min. on use
Tried to upgrade my iphone to os4 last night and got an error 29 message and was then stuck in an endless reconnect to itunes loop. Restore only resulted in further error 29 messages. Finally after a good bit of searching on potential solutions I used irecovery to escape the loop. Now os4 is on my iphone (and looks great!) but it reboots every few minutes (2-3) when being used. It does not reboot if off. I tried restoring again after discovering the reboot problem but that got me back to square one and error 29 messages again.
Noticed some others with similar issues but didn't see a thread with this exact problem posted.
Perhaps it's worth noting that I replaced my iphone battery myself a few months ago but had no issues at all until now. Not a jailbroken iphone. Just trying to get it to work.mrrutter wrote:

Ok. From reading through the forums some more it definitely seems to be related to the battery. Perhaps for some it's because they have a semi-bad original/OEM battery. For me I'm guessing it's because I installed a non-OEM battery when my original started to fail. I bought a higher capacity replacement than OEM off the internet thinking it would give me better battery life. It worked perfectly fine until upgrading iOS4. In addition to previous problems posted my battery is either not charging at all now or charging very slowly. It reboots even as I'm trying to recharge. I've turned it off while trying to recharge it now in the hopes that this will make it charge properly. I've also ordered an OEM battery now in the hopes this will fix the problem. Wish I hadn't discarded the original. Odd that an OS upgrade would cause this problem. The tinfoil hat part of me wonders if Apple did this on purpose to discourage DIY fixes. If so, that's really uncool of you, Apple. If I break my phone fixing it myself then let me break it. Please don't break it for me.
Once I get an OEM battery and install it I will update on whether that worked for me or not.
Here's a post from another thread concerning error 29:
Hi all,
I am so happy! I can confirm the error 29 has been resolved and it is to do with the battery gauge. I ordered a higher capacity battery from Ebay, that messed around with the readout in 3.1.3. I was on the verge on making a claim for a replacement iphone until just now. Also as a word of warning, Non apple OEM battery will cause the phone to crash. Maybe the phone is sensitive to calculating the gas gauge so when it can't work out the exact charge it'll force the phone to reboot every 5 minute interval, this is apples ploy to dig out illegal modifications? This is very interesting, Phone fully functional now after installing OEM battery. I will now install the bigger capacity battery to see if it is compatible with it. I'm guessing not.
