Behavior of BEx Query Attributes for webi on OLAP universe: Including 1 attr to Query!

My webi report is based on an OLAP universe (.unv) which is based on a BEx Query. I need an attribute field from an info object. But when I include that attribute in my BEx query in free characteristics pane…… Every single attribute in that info object comes over to the universe.
Is this the expected behavior?
How can I ensure only the attribute wanted comes over and not all the attributes of the info-object.
I am using BO 4.0SP4.

Attribute level restriction of an InfoObject is not possible in BEX Query and the same reflects in the Universe.
You can use attributes of an infoObject which you wanted on WEBI Report Level.

Is there a way to get the time taken by a webi query execution on the BO side and in the BW side? Is this stat stored some where?
Also, what is the best approach to take for comparing performance between the original bex query and the WEBI on top of the Bex?

Allow the external access to the query massage for WEBI in BO 4.0 ,

Hi ,
I created the BEX query and in query properties I checked " Allow External access to this query" and saved the query
but this check box option " Allow External access to this query" is not saving .
is there any note need to be implimented for this problem.
I created the the connection using the information design tool.
I'm trying to create the Webi using BICS connection form BEX query through Web intellengence rich client
it is giving the message like "it is not possible to use this Bex query as source for Web intellengence reports. Ask your administrator to edit this query so that it can be used by
web intellengence and enable the query propery" Allow External access to this query.
we are using BI - 7.35 support pack 4 and BO - 4.0 SP2
Did any one has faced this issue, Could you please send your comments

Upgrade your SAP GUI to 720 and there will be a updated patch at service market place for GUI 720 which will resolve this issue.
When we faced same issue we had upgraded and our system currently shows
SAP GUI Release: 720 Final Release

Are there any best practices identified by practitioners or suggested by SAP for development of Infoprovider and queries for access by BO Universe.
Best practices should be from the prospective of performance, design simplicity, adaptability to change etc.

My project plan is to build Infocubes & queries which will be then used to build Universe upon it. Thus I am looking for do's & dont's while designing infocubes & queries such that there wont be any issues(performance or other) when accessed by Universe built on it.

Date Prompt through not resolved in webi on OLAP Universe

Hi,
I am using BO XI 3.1 with latest fix pack.
I have created a OLAP universe based on SSAS 2005 Multicube for reporting using WebI
I have Date field in my SSAS cube and i created a universe based on that cube , but my Date field changed to Character in the Universe Layer.
My requirement is that i need to create a a prompt over that field in the webi report using a CALENDAR to enter the value instead of entering the value manually.
I changed the type of field for the date field from CHARACTER to DATE in the OLAP Universe level and exported it in order to see the calendar prompt ( as the calendar component is visible for the data type of DATE) .
This conversion don't seems to work for me due to the conversion from Char to Date even if i have the data for particular date i cannot see the records but if manually type the value for that same date without converting the Date format to type Date.
I also tried the MDX stuff and created :

Hi,
First I think you have to create a support ticket because normally the object in the universe must be generated with data data type nad it is not the case.
We are awere of some limitations with data types.
Secondly, if you want to have users entering date you have to specify date in the prompt data type like this:

Query Performance for OLE DB OLAP Reporting

Hi Experts,
what are the advantages of enhancing query performance by
A) building Aggregates or
B) using Information Broadcaster Query Precalculation?
Since the settings in Information Broadcaster could be done by any user - will the precalculated version be used only for this user or for all users exeucting the query?
Are these settings also used if the query is executed via a 3rd party Frontend tool?

Selecting X and Y-axis in chart for web query

I have 3 chars and 4 kfs in a query. I want to draw a chart with CHAR1 in x-axis and only 2 kfs in y-axis. where do i set that my X-AXIS is CHAR 1 and KF1 and KF2 in Y-AXIS.
When I do so all the KFs are getting displayed in the chart but I want only 2 Key Figures.
Pls let me know.

Sorry the above answers I have given are suitable for Bex Charts.
For Web Charts You can double click the chart and in the chart right click you can set the series, data points and everything.
But as it is you can't say the char1 is my primay x axis and char2 is secondary and so on.

Save for Web... and grayscale images

I noticed a strange behavior when I use "Save for Web and Devices" on scanned BW negatives...
I import the negatives via the scanner's twain driver in Photoshop as 16bit grayscale images. My grayscale working space is normally set to the default DotGain 20% profile. When I want to show these images on the web, I use "Save for Web and Devices..." and I have selected the convert to sRGB option. For some reason, the "embed color profile" option is disabled (grayed out) when the document is in grayscale mode.
When I view the the exported image (in a color managed application or browser) it looks too dark and shadow detail is lost. Examining the file info shows that the JPG file is in RGB color space and has the sRGB profile assigned.
When I convert the image to RGB mode before I do save for web... the exported image will look exactly like it looked in Photoshop. Also, the mode change doesn't cause a change in appearance. Also, after changing to RGB, the "embed color profile" option in save for web... becomes enabled.
I experimented with other working color spaces and noticed that an image exported from a grayscale image in "GrayGamma 2.2" working color space will display almost like an image that was exported from a grayscale image converted to RGB.
I would like to understand this behavior and whether it is correct. My assumption would be that a conversion to sRGB during the export should yield the same result like a manual conversion of the image in photoshop but for some reason the results are quite different.
How can I export my grayscale images to sRGB JPG without having to convert to RGB manually while preserving the tonality from the original image?
I have attached an image which I hope might illustrate the effect I'm describing. The crop on left hand side looks as expected and is the result of exporting from an image that was converted from grayscale to RGB mode (sRGB working space) before using save for web...
The image in the middle is the result from converting to GrayGamma 2.2 color space but leaving the image in grayscale mode before saving for web and devices. It is almost identical to the crop on the left. The crop on the right hand side is the result of using save for web and devices from the original image in grayscale mode with the default DotGain 20% profile.

MDX query error in web intellegence

HI,
I have to create the reports in webi from olap universe which is underlying cube ssas 2008, when i run the report i got the following error.
A database error occured.The database error text is: Failed to execute MDX query.Reason:The component Microsoft
OLEDB Proivder for Analysis Services 2008 returned server error (The expression contains a function that cannot operate on a
set with more than 4,294,967,296 tuples.)
When I exclude some objects from the webi report, it run successfully. I am using BOE 3.1 SP3 .
Do have some idea, what is I am doing wrong.

AK: 1) You can create two OLAP Universes from the underlying two Cubes. And then perform "ADD LINK" to merge the data. Then create one single Webi Report.
OR
2) Create 2 WebI reports each from different sourcing OLAP Universes. Then use "Merge Dimensions" option in Webi to merge the data into single WebI report from both the existing webi reports.
Note: For Merging Webi reports, you need a common dimension betweeen these two parent WebI reports.

How to make Management of row level restrictions easy for webi reports?

Hi all
Our BO Product version is 12.3.0.601 (BO 3.1)
We are applying row level security for webi reports at universe level...
Since Universes are more in Number we have to create same restrictions and apply it to the users lets take a restrictions on region....which is common across all universes.
So the problem lies with the management of restrictions created at universe level.
Can we have a setup in where we can centralized the restirctions at a place so that management would be easy ......???
Shall we have to import the roles(restrictions) from R/3 or BW or Database level...?
Then how we will restrict our report (webi) to a region?????
So basically webi reports should run with the restrictions lets say region....How we will achieve this?/

Hi,
what is your Datasource?
If its SAP BW i would highly recommend you use the SAP Authentication in your BOE XI 3.1 So the users log into BOE with their SAP Username and Password and than the Data restriction of your BW takes place when the users run their Reports.
Informations on how to confiure the SAP Authentication you will find in the installation Guide of the SAP ITK.

Save for Web and XMP

I asked the following in the Photoshop forum, but got no response. So, ...
In Photoshop CS3, "Save for Web" now offers an "Include XMP" option. Just to get an idea of what's going on, I set print resolution to a distinctive value--312 ppi--then used "Save for Web" with "Include XMP" to save a JPEG. Then I reopened the file and tried to find some record of that 312 ppi value. Photoshop reports 72 ppi. In other words, it can't find my 312 setting and so it shows its default 72. Same thing in Bridge. In fact, the only way I can "find" my odd-ball 312 ppi is to view the file in an EXIF utility, which shows X and Y resolutions of 312.
For now, I'm ignoring the fact that there isn't much point to saving print resolution for a web file, but still I'm wondering why "Include XMP" goes to the trouble of saving this value as metadata, if neither PS nor Bridge can find it later on?

As far as I can tell, "Save for web" discards ALL print resolution data. This makes sense, because such info is meaningless for a web image. If you subsequently view the web-saved image in PS, it reports 72 ppi, because Photoshop shows this default value when it can't find print resolution data in a file header.
And here's where it gets weird: The "Include XMP" option saves the print res as metadata, presumably for use later on if you want to review and/or change it. And sure enough, I can read the saved print resolution data in a 3rd-party EXIF utility. But Photoshop itself can't read it. Neither can Bridge. So, what's the point of saving this stuff, if it can't be found later on? Maybe I'm overlooking something, or maybe it's a bug. Who knows?

Can "Save for Web" generate a thumbnail instead of an icon?

Can "Save for Web" generate a thumbnail instead of an icon? Or can the icon be replaced by a thumbnail? Thanks.

I don't think Save for Web embeds any icons or thumbnails, because the whole point of Save for Web is to keep the file size down as much as possible for Web use by not including anything except the image and some text metadata that you choose. If you're seeing a thumbnail or icon, it was probably generated by your operating system and may only be local to your desktop.
If you do want to embed a thumbnail or icon into a JPEG file, you might get one by choosing File > Save As instead. The Save As command is intended to give you the most complete file possible, where Save for Web is designed to give you the smallest file possible.

Colour problems after exporting for web

I'm struggling with a colour issue on a website I've recently designed.
The original design was done in Photoshop CS3 and includes a think purple band at the top of the page (http://www.deliciouscafe.co.uk/index.html). After slicing up the design and then 'saving for web and devices', the purple changes - it appears less dense and should really be a much deeper shade.
Not sure if i'm using the wrong export method. I've tried jpeg, png and gif format but nothing seems to make a difference, however I've not tried changing any of the other settings in the save for web and devices dialog box so was wondering if something there would help?
Any assistance would be much appreciated!

Convert (don't assign) the color profile of your images to be sRGB.
When saving for web, be sure to include the ICC color profile for sRGB.
Don't mix GIF andd JPG when you are trying to maintain consisten color. Use the same format. (background.gif has a purple that may not match quote.jpg)
Web color is a mess, especially on Mac. The steps above are the best you can do.

How can I setup the query timeout for SQVI in basis?

Hi,
I want to setup query timeout for a particular user so that if his query (created in SQVI) takes more then say 10 minutes, it automatically times out and system resources are freed up.
How can I do this for a specific user? Also in case I cant do it for a specific user how can I do it for all users?

The memory is limited by the parameters
abap/heap_area_dia
abap/heap_area_nondia
abap/heap_area_total
which are system wide.
If a user requests more memory than those, the program will dump.

Universe unable to access query on top of Multi-provider.

Hi All,
I have a multi-provider made of my custom cubes ,I have build a query on top of this multi-provider and while designing I have taken to put Tick 'ALLOW EXTERNAL ACCESS TO THIS QUERY' but when i design universe give my login details i am not able to see that query ,folder for that multi-provider gets created but that query is not getting displayed...
I created a new query and did necessary things but i cant see that query built on top of this multiprovider.
If i make a normal query on top of cube or dso i am able to see that query.
I have other multiprovider if i create query on that i can see that query in universe.
I am surprised why this is happening ?
I am using Business object XI 3.1, so i dnt think this is software issue
Any one faced such kind of issue please reply.

But query i am not able to...
I have calculated key figures in my query but if that is the issue then i also made a simple query which just had standard key figures, then too i am not able to see that query.....
In my other mullti provider I have calculated key figurre and i am able to see that query...
I don't know what is the issue....anything else you can suggest..
