  • EPUB exported from InDesign works on iPad and not on Android tablets

I've edxported several similar books to EPUB from InDesign CS5, using the same technique each. After exporting from InDesign, there's a lot of tweaking of the HTML code and some changes to the content.opf and toc.ncx, but the finished product for all of the books works fine on iPads but some do not work on Android tablets. There are six separate InDesign documents in each epub book...three small, one large, and then two small. Some of the books work fine on Android tablets, but for some of them, the first three documents show up fine, but when one advances to the large document, the book closes. There's no error message. Any ideas what the problem might be? Are there size limitations for documents on Android machines?

As you have found out - it doesn't work.

  • Missing content exporting from InDesign CC 2014 to Flash Pro CC 2014

    Dear all,
to produce a larger number of similar animated swf's, I wanted to create all necessary text and graphic layers in InDesign CC 2014, then export as *.fla to Flash Pro CC 2014 for "bulk" animation.
Finally it should then just be a case of selecting the correct layers and publishing.
The problem: When exporting from InDesign to Flash, all layers are recognized but initially apart from the text layers they were shown as empty items without the content.
Rescaling the placed images in InDesign to be no larger than the final document helped to now also have the images when opening the exported *.fla in Flash.
I am still missing all other InDesign objects though, e.g. even a simple colored rectangular will not show in Flash.
Any help to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated. Searching for it only brought up a couple of tutorials that do not seem to have this issue.
    Best regards
    Christopher

I think that it's just a bug in InDesign. It happens with CS6 as well.

  • Fixed Layout EPUBs in Adobe Indesign CC 2014

    Hi Friends,
I'm fascinated with the prospects of the Fixed Layout EPUBs.   In the few video tutorials that are more current, Adobe host shows the ability to PREVIEW the EPUBs using the menu  item OBJECT > INTERACTIVE > Epub Previewer.  But no go.
So, I've now installed from Creative Cloud, the Extend Script tool kit as well as Extension Manager.   I also installed Edge Inspect CC.
Am I on the right track to find or install the Interactive > Fixed Layout EPUB Previewer?    I need your guidance and have not found anything through my searches online.
I exported my Fixed Layout EPUB yesterday and the slider I created by following one of the few tutorials caused some sort of problem because that entire SPREAD was blank, although all other pages were present.
    Thanks for any guidance.
    Sincerely
    mary

Hi Steve, I am a regular subscriber to Creative Cloud and have updated all apps.  My version of Adobe InDesign does show 2014.1 under About InDesign.
Believe it or not, one of the more helpful videos out in Adobe TV land showed interactive under the Object menu:
See 5:30 on this page: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/how-to/interactivity-fixed-layout-epub.html?set=indesign- -key-techniques--epub-fixed-layout  I finally found the answer here at Adobe forums (monica).   Now I have it installed in the panel on the right.
I'm on an iMac and use all Apple products.   I've tossed Windows to the wind.
Thank you so much for your support.

  • Problem with ePub export on InDesign CC

    Hello,
I've installed the lastest version of InDesign CC on my Mac and it works great. But in my PC the animations, buttons and functions for ePub don't work. I've tried to unistall a hundred times and still not working, even in the ePub preview. It is a problem in the instalation or in my computer? Because everything seems to work, but when I export the buttons don't have functions..
    Thanks,
    Marcelo

Already being discussed. Locking this thread.

  • Displaced Pixel in a PDF X3 exported with InDesign CC 2014

If I export a PDF X3 and open the PDF in Acrobat there are some strange pixel errors in the images.
There are a few pixel displaced about one pixel in a vertical line.
If I export a PDF X4 there are no problems.
Is there anybody with the same problem?

    Hi,
I've did a lot of test and changing the subset settings didn't solve anything.
I was able to create a temporarily fix for the problem. Every time a file has to be processed, I quit and relaunch Indesign. By doing so, I lose 80% performance because it takes longer to quit and  relaunch the app, then to create the PDF-file. I went from a 3 second processing time, to 10 seconds, every time...
I think a cache problem could be the reason.
Does anyone know if you can clear the application cache using scripting, without quitting the Indesign app ?
    Thanx
    John

  • Interactivity samples in fixed-layout epub exported from InDesign!

    Hi,
Make an Indesign "Print" file and several seconds after, send your client a real interactive fixed-layout epub.
To do it for free, just take a look for samples to Fanfan la Tulipe, searching "fanfan michel allio" on iTunes!

    Hi,
Have you applied superscript via Control Panel or Character Panel's fly out menu? I am asking this because if you have specified via open type settings, then this will not be honored.

  • Pdf export range indesign cc 2014

I saw that there are several threads dealing with that problem with the drop down menu saying CUSTOM V. usualy people can type in there, the problem is that what ever i type in that little box (for example: 3-7) indesign gives me the following error:
Cannot find the specified page number(s). If using alternate layouts, type the layout name followed by a colon, and then the page number(s). For example 'iPad H:1'. If using a section numbering, type the section prefix in front of the number(s). For example: 'a1'. You can also type a plus sign ( + ) followed by the absolute page number.
BUT i neither used alternate layouts nor section numbering. does anybody know what to do about that? does anybody have the same problem?
would be happy to find a solution.

  • Renumbering footnotes in each chapter in indesign cc 2014

I recently imported a Word document comprising a book into InDesign CC 2014. All the footnotes transferred over correctly, but when I try to make the numbering restart at the beginning of each Chapter, nothing happens. Can anyone help?

    You can:
    (1) Divide each chapter into a separate story (i.e., break the text
thread between the end of the last chapter and the new chapter). Then
your footnotes will begin at 1 for each chatper. This is what I would
    recommend.
    (2) Assign a new section in the pages palette at the beginning of each
chatper, and set your footnote numbering to restart with each section.
The disadvantage of this is that if your text reflows, the sections
won't be in the right place any more.

  • Indesign CC 2014 Fixed-Layout Epub exported great for iBooks.  Can I do the same for Kindle?

I have read a lot about being able to edit the Epub code in a Fixed-Layout Indesign CC exported Epub.  This Epub works great in IBooks. What I read said I could clean up the
code so it works for Kindle.  But I can't figure out what code needs to be cleaned out.  How can I export it correctly or clean it up?
    Hope someone here knows,
Thanks for the help in advance,
    Janis

    Monica,
    Thanks for your response.
I tried again as you suggested.
I exported a Fixed Layout ePub (exported size ~29mb) and tried to load it on an Mac, iPad and iPhone 5s. The results are inconsistent. On the Mac, I received a message that the file was corrupt. On the iPad, the file did eventually load (the quality of the output is another discussion - sneak preview, it's not as good as Circular Flo. Lots of weird stuff). On the iPhone 5s, iBooks is still spinning and has been for about 10 minutes.

  • EPub export using just a range of pages from inDesign Book

I've created an ePub Fixed Layout ebook from inDesign 2014.1. I now want to create a summary book for Apple's iBook store, using pages from multiple chapters.
I know the ePub export dialog has an "Export Range" panel in the "General" tab. When you export from a single inDesign Document, you can either leave it as "All Pages" or chose a Page Range. However, I have an inDesign Book, with a inDesign document per chapter.
When I do the ePub "Fixed Layout" export, I come to this panel and the option to select a Page Range is disabled, so I can't specify the pages I want. The pages are numbered to follow on from chapter to chapter.
So, it looks to me like exporting to ePub from an inDesign Book will only allow you to create an ebook from ALL of the pages of the inDesign Book?
I'd really like to create a summary from multiple chapters, so any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Bill

    Hi Bill,
Page range for export can only be selected when exporting a document to Fixed Layout ePub. It cannot be done when exporting book to Fixed Layout ePub.

  • InDesign CC 2014 and FXL EPUBs

    Hi all,
I've been testing the new EPUB 3 Fixed Layout export feature in InDesign CC 2014 and it looks terrific!
But... I've been analyzing the HTML/CSS it generates. Does anyone els did so also? If so, what are your impressions? I am curious about that...
    Cheers,

  • EPub Validation problems, exporting from InDesign

I've exported my indb file as an epub. When I run the epub through epub check I get three of the same error in three different chapters.
element "div" not allowed here; expected the element end-tag, text or element "a", "abbr", "acronym", "applet", "b", "bdo", "big", "br", "cite", "code", "del", "dfn", "em", "i", "iframe", "img", "ins", "kbd", "map", "noscript", "ns:svg", "object", "q", "samp", "script", "small", "span", "strong", "sub", "sup", "tt" or "var" (with xmlns:ns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg")
I can't figure out what it is in these chapters that might be causing the error. I have 29 chapters in the entire book and there is nothing about these three chapters that appears different from the rest. Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this error?
Thanks so much for your help.

  • Indesign CS5.5 Not Splitting at Chapters on ePub Export

I have a single document book in InDesign CS5.5. (Version 7.5.2)
The file is DFSS55ePub.indd. It is just a single .indd file, not a .indb
Every time on export to ePub, it is not respecting the Break Document at Paragraph Style: Chapter Title.
I get a single 444K .html file in the OEBPS folder of the resulting ePub.
Since that is over the 300K limit, it fails validation.
I've defined a table of contents called TOC
Level 1: Chapter Title (using a numbered List called Chapter)
Level 1: Chapter Title FM (No numbers for these headings in the front matter)
Level 2: QH  (These are subheads within the chapter. There are admittedly a lot of these - 160 across 10 chapters)
The file started its life as DFSS55Print.indd with facing pages, a printing table of contents and index. The current file is a single story, no facing pages. I deleted the index and table of contents since I knew the export to epub would do this anyway.
I did generate a Table of Contents in a frame on the pasteboard based on a suggestion in another topic.
When I export, the settings on the Contents tab are:
    Format for EPUB Content: XHTML
    Use InDesign TOC Style: TOC
Break Document at Paragraph Style: Chapter Title
    Generate CSS
    Include Style Definitions
I even tried exporting to IDML, opening, updating the table of contents, and re-exporting. Same problem.
I realize I could open in Sigil and split the html, but I swore after I upgraded to 5.5 I would never have to go back to Sigil.
Any ideas on what could be causing this?
    Thanks in advance
    Bill

    I've got it working.
Perhaps the problem was the numbered list used in the Chapter Title paragraph style? I had said to convert numbered lists to text in the ePub Export dialog.
Some combination of these steps solved the problem in case others encounter the same thing:
    a) Changed the chapter headings using the Chapter Title paragraph style to Chapter Title FM. This style does not used a numbered list. Of course, I had to manually type "Chapter 1" - before each chapter title.
    b) Once all occurences of the Chapter Title paragraph style were gone, I redefined the TOC definition to remove Chapter Title. This leaves me with a single Level 1 and a single Level 2.
    c) Updated the TOC with the new definition.
    d) Moved the TOC frame from the pasteboard to some blank space in the front matter. I did not bother to make the frame large enough for all the text, since InDesign will delete this upon export.
    e) Export to PDF. On the third panel, changed the "break at: Chapter Title" to "break at: Chapter Title FM"
My theory is getting rid of the numbered list in the chapter paragraph styles probably solved the problem. Thanks to all who took the time to check out the discussion.
