Belgian Problem : Four Red Lights

Hello everyone,
I think the "Four Red Lights on D-Bracket" problem is back...  ;(
I have been running a MSI KT3 Ultra with an Athlon XP 1700+ (0,18 µm) coupled with a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ for months now without any problems.
But yesterday my system hung after a few minutes work. As it was the FIRST one I got with this card, I was a little bit surprised but finally thought this could happen even to the best ones...
I simply rebooted but then had to realize there was going wrong with it. My system hangs during the initialisation of my SCSI devices... strange... really strange. I powered off my computer, wait a few minutes and restarted it. And guess what? Black screen with 4 red lights on D-Bracket.
I read the manual and found out that my CPU was wrong. That's really strange because I did not modify anything (no overclocking by the way!)...
I tried to find out what the problem could be by removing unnecessary components (like SCSI adapter card, sound card, network card,...), by clearing CMOS (after I read this nice forum), by re-installing my CPU (with fresh thermal compound) but did not resolve the problem
Another evidence that my system was correctly installed was the temperature I got during the past months : about 38°C
Do you think my motherboard simply died?  8o
Thanks for your help

I've experienced the four red led lights too. It happened right after I changed the BIOS settings for my CPU internal timing from 'Normal' to 'Ultra'. After I saved the setting, my monitor went blank.
I finally solved it after 2 days. I tried multiple times in clearing the Bios to no avail (5x). So even though MSI says the four led lights is because of a 'damaged or mis-installed proc' it's sometimes not the case.
1. I unplugged the power cable from the PSU
2. I took out the CMOS battery
3. I put the jumper on 'clear' bios.
I went to work for a 10 hour period.
When I got back home, I did the steps below per a forum post I read at work.
4. I press and held the case 'Reset' button for about 30 secs (supposely, it would drain the capacitors)
5. Then I set the Bios jumper back to normal setting.
6. Then I press the 'Reset' button for about 20 more secs.
7. I put the CMOS battery back in.
8. I plugged the power cable backup and crossed my fingers.
I booted up and I still saw four led lights, then the lower right one changed to green and I knew I was in business.
My theory is that somehow, the Bios still retained the 'Turbo' settings when I set the jumpers to clear the Bios multiple times. I think over the period of one day w/ out the battery the BIOS made have defaulted back to the normal settings and/or the addition pressing the reset button drained the capacitor and reset the BIOS.
Sorry the post is so long, but I'm just want to share my experience.

  • Four Red Lights - new system

I've assembled a new system, when trying to start it I get four red LEDs from the D-panel that comes with the board.
    The specs:
    MSI K8T Neo FIS2R
    A64 2800+
    512 Corsair Value Select
    GF 5600 Ultra (temp)
IBM 60G IDE HD, Maxtor 60G IDE HD

I've tried this with two CPUs and get the same results with both, four red lights.  Any ideas?

    Things to do in order...
Create a sig that contains them. It is impossible to give specific help when we have no idea what parts we are talking about. Keep in mind that no one wants to hunt if the thread gets long.
Reset CMos as per your manual.
Try just one stiuck of RAM.
Try the other stick or an older stick.
    Try other memory sockets.
Once you get to bios set to defaults and then set the memory speed to the correct setting for your ram and leave all others at auto.
Set specific memory timings as per your RAM.
Let us know wehn you get a system post or not.

  • KT6 Delta All Four Red Lights Help

I just purchased a kt6 delta and I am trying to get it going.  I am upgrading from a KG6-RAID.  I moved everything over, and got ready to try it out, and when  I turned it on I get all 4 red lights.  Then I tried the parts on the old Mobo and things boot up.
I removed everything, so all I have is 1 ram stick, the processor, and a video card.  Here is what I have in there.
    kt6 Delta
    xp 1700
Name brand hsf (forget what it is, but its certified for xp1700).
    256 meg Crucial 2100
    Leadtek ti4200 card
Antec pp-303x psu ( http://www.antec-inc.com/specs/p303x_spe.html ) .  Psu has been in use for less then 3 months.
Please let me know if you have any ideas.  Thank you.

I think I am reading this correctly.
    +5v - 7-30a
    +12v - 1-10a
    +3.3v - .5-14a
I have tried it with no memory, and with a Centron (generic) stick.  Both 2100.   Both check out on other motherboards.
I have artic silver between the heatsink and processor.
I'm thinking if anything it could be the power supply, but I don't know.

  • [Athlon64] Four Red Lights

    Running:
    K8T Neo2
    Athlon 64 3000+
    512mb Samsung PC3200
    420W Generic Turbolink PSU
    MSI FX7500LE
It's all put together and when I turn the sucker on the D-bracket thingy shows all red LEDs. Could my CPU be damaged or really incorrectly installed? Or could it be my PSU? I'm kinda at my wit's end fiddling with bits and swapping parts. Any insight at all is greatly appreciated.

This is usually caused by RAM timings being read wrong from the Bios. Take out all but one stick of RAM and also do a Bios Reset with the machine unplugged. Now go into Bios and set the RAM timings there as per what the maker recommends for A64's. Also set VDimm as per their recommends. Shut down, Unplug and reinstall your other RAM. Now you should be OK.
If for some reason it does not go into Bios using just one stick then try an older stick of like PC2100 or some such and you should get in.
I only have the one stick of PC3200 512mb on hand right now. I've kinda been away from PCs for a while (I bought a Mac, I'm sorry!) so most of my parts are of the PC100/133 persuasion.
So I need to return a piece to the shop today. I guess I ought to try the ram? You suppose I ought to get a replacement 512 or maybe two 256 instead so I can test?
Thanks so much for the help! This forum is a great resource.

  • Z10 doesn't restart and red light blinking only.

    Hi,
My z10 phone was normally working, and sometimes it's don't response and hang. last time i tried to restart and it's took long time and i used blackberry link and did software update. in between software update was completed but it was not run. i got problem. Red light blinking.
even i charge it or restart, Red light blinking.
after i face this problem, i tried to slove by autoloader, new BB link and many more action done. Nothing work.
it might be mother board problem???? but i am not technician.
We cann't buy easily motherboard also.
I think Blackberry is totally **bleep**.... Since i have used blackberry storm , storm 9860 and z10 al are **bleep**.

I think BlackBerry is totally awesome...Since I have used BlackBerry Pearl, Curve, Bold, Z10, Q10, and now Z30. All are awesome.
There are so many things that could cause your Z10 to fail. You could have gotten it wet, dropped it, stepped on it, or any other manner of abuse. It could also have just failed on it's own through no fault of your own. Since I know MANY people with BB10 devices right now, including 3 in my own household and another 3 assigned to some coworkers there is no problem with all BlackBerrys.

From your statements above, it sounds like you never tried to burn a CD for at least the first year that you owned the laptop, as it had a one year warranty on it. While you might have used it frequently to install software,  play DVDs, Blu-Ray disks, etc, that's unclear from your statements. Nonetheless, it might just be dirty-dusty. So, before deleting-uninstalling any software, and given they're cheap, try a CD-DVD Cleaner Disk first and see if that resolves your problems.

  • I've got a mac pro problem with the starting up, but also a red light on the logic board solidly on. Its not among the diagnostic led. It's located near the BT adapter and the front fans. Also the fans run loud also. any solutions?

    Hi
I've got a mac pro late 2006, and i am having problem with it for quite a while now. the problem i am facing is the start up process, and the red light on the logic board. Earlier I've got the two led on the diagnostic leds 5 and 6 turned on without the diagnostic button being pressed, and i think those are related to the processors overtemp. I've managed to solve that by, removing the processors and re applying the thermal compound on the heatsink. what i have left now with is the red light on  the logic board at the time i plugged in the power. At the same time when this light come on, the power indicator at the front panel come on as well. i am not sure what is this light relates to. We've replace the power supply too, and gone through the SMC reset but seems no help.
Any idea on the problem? I am desperate about it, and i will be greatful if anyone can help..
thanks and hope for your best solutions

  • Red light headphone jack problem iMac 27" 2011

I have a problem with internal speakers. I searched forums and I think is a problema about the connector, the red light in headphone jack is on. I cannt hear from internal speakers sometimes and now it's allways. I need to plug a headphone or external spekaers to get sound.
I buy the iMac about 2 month ago. May I send the computer to the store or can I fix it?

  • Red light problem

I have a red light coming from my headphone jack. In the sound output, the only thing there shows optical digital output, though nothing is there. It started when I dropped the computer, and now the internal sound will not work. I tried to spin the toothpick around, and the red light would turn off for a few seconds, then it would flicker back on. This has happened about 5 or 6 times, so Im not sure if Im doing something wrong or if its a bigger problem.
    Thanks!

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. The red light is related to the optical digital output.

try inserting and removing the headphones in and out of the audio jack.  The toggle switch is stuck and your mac thinks the headphones are still plugged in.

  • HT3180 I Have No Power or no red light, has any one else had this problem.

I have no power or no red light, has anyone else had this problem?

I have noted in several posts as have a few of the others here,, Bob Timmons being one who has tested it, that the new one was no better than the old ones. I bought a new AEBS 5th Gen to test against all my old TC's up to Gen 3.. IMHO they are all about the same.. and my old Thomson G wireless router beats them handsomely at the other end of the house. ie the range is to be frank, pathetic. I don't have a Mac laptop to test with.. so just concluded it needs the exact match to get results like anandtech article..
    I would do the following.
    1. Download and use 5.6 utility.. you are lucky you are still on Lion as ML no longer can use v5 utility.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
    2. Set wireless names to short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric. Set a different name to 5ghz. Its range is always short.. so don't expect too much. Make sure the output is set to 100%.. and the region is correct.
    3. Lock the wireless channel for 2.4ghz.. test the available channels.. in Nepal I have no idea what is allowed.. but 1, 6, 11 are the main non-overlapping channels for most of the world. Power output maybe different though and the TP-Link might be set to higher output country.. apple do not allow that. Check what country the tp-link is set to.
    4. The location of the TC must be as good as possible.. The antennas are around the 3 sides but the most important is in front.. try to place the TC so the laptop is facing the front of the TC, with nothing in between.
I am pretty sure you are never going to get the output any higher than it is now.. I still use the old wireless G Thomson signal in the other end of the house. And even running 3 TC at once (when I am repairing power supplies.. makes no difference.. they are all invisible).
Either return the TC as unsuitable.. or simply use it as a backup.
The TP-Link can be used in wan bypass to provide wireless.. just turn off the TC wireless.

  • A strange flashing red light problem on the 8100.

    Blackberry Pearl 8100
Problem: Usually after using it for the first time after several hours of non-use it will shut off unexpectedly, flash me the red light twice, and then allow me to turn it back on to a long load up. Battery power is fine. No data loss. No unexpected behavior beyond that.
    Should I wipe it?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

I have never seen or heard of a 2008 shipping with, or supporting, 512MB DIMMs, I guess you may try, but then those would be the slower 667MHz FBDIMMs probably, and not 800MHz.
It would have shipped with 2 x 1GB with one on each Riser, but then to install a full set, move one, and install pairs on a Riser.
People have had bad memory show with half its correct amount.

  • RED LIGHT / BATTERY PROBLEM

My blackberry has recently been unable to charge up. I bought a new battery yesterday and all I am seeing is just a red light turning on and off. Please help as I really want to get my blackberry torch up and running

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Note that, while rare, a "new" battery certainly can be defective...the best (and least expensive) test method is to find someone with an identical BB who has no issues...trade batteries and see what happens.
Good luck and let us know!
