Belkin adaptor settings

My 6500/300 has it graphics chips set to 1024x768, thousands colours.
I now have a Belkin Mac to VGA adapter which claims it works with all PowerMacs (and all other Macs too).
Anyway, the Information Sheet that came with lists Monitor, resolution and up to six Mode settings. Under Monitors it lists, inter alia, Multiple Scan 14, 16 and 21. My old Monitor is a Multiple Scan 15AV.
I think I have a choice of two - 14 and the 16. So I think I will try these settings first.
So I want to connect the new Monitor to the Mac, power both up and play around with the settings.
Can anyone advise me please, should I power everything down each time before changing the dip switch settings on the Belkin Adaptor or is doing this unnecessary?
I'm also worried that Dip configurations might short out pins on either the monitor or Mac - I suspect that this isn't possible but I would appreciate it if someone could confirm (or deny) this please?
PM6500/300 (603e)   Mac OS 9.1.x

Well, as I promised, I have just checked out Mode 5 settings (146789) instead of Mode 1. Good news. This setting works fine too.
There appears to be no functional difference between Mode 1 and Mode 5 as far as the Philips 190B6CG/05 LCD display is concerned. At least none that I could find.
Being a little more confident now that I won't get lumbered with a blank screen (finding and reading the Manufacturer's notes helped here) I experimented using other resolutions from the Monitors Control Panel. Being able to use the Monitors Control Panel to swap resolutions was a surprised to me too. I thought I was going to need to switch Dip Switch settings on the Belkin Adapter all the time to do this.
Sure, 832x624, 75hz, millions was available as was 800x600 72hz. The Philips display hated 800x600 85hz and screamed at me when I tried it. The CD Manual later told me that 60hz is what the LCD display is designed for and 85 hz wasn't required as no interleaving is taking place as in CRTs. As far as I can tell, the difference between thousands of colours and millions on this new Philips monitor is so small it is almost completely lost with the clarity of 1024x768 mode. I know that I am not going to miss the extra colours
Anyway I have left the display in Mode 5. No need for me to go back to Mode 1 as far as I can tell. I also won't bother trying Modes 2 to 4. No doubt these will work also.

  • HT4614 Is there a Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor for an external monitor?

I use a mid-2011 13" MacBook Air.  My external Samsung Monitor (Synchmaster P2450) has started flickering.  It might be the Belkin minidisplay port > HDMI adaptor or some conflict with Thunderbolt (same port).   Should I invest in a new Belkin adaptor or is there a Thunderbolt>HDMI connector that might work?

That's interesting, because I have seen a few people post here regarding reliability of these connectors. I have a Belkin HDMI adapter, and have not had a problem with it. But, seeing that a few people have reported problems leads me to ponder the same question as yours.
I bought the Belkin more recently, as the one I originally purchased (a Kanex) didn't have audio support at the time I bought it, as the Macs didn't have it either. So I bought the Belkin when audio became fully supported by both Apple and the adapter makers. Both adapters still work without issue.

  • AirPort Express NOT working with Belkin N1 Vision (Model : F5D8232-4)

I cannot manage to make it work properly....
I've followed the instructions to set up the network. My Mac can detect my AirPort Express (APE) and an IP has been distributed successfully. And the solid green light was shown after setting up. However, the AirTune cannot detect my APE in iTunes...
Any solution for that? Please suggest. Thanks!

    Norman,
There could be a couple of issues, if you could provide more information about the settings you have chosen that might help. However if your AE is new call Apple they can assist you on setting it up.
I also use a Belkin router and found initially my security was set at 128 bit WEP which the AE had a tough time with. Once I reset the security to WPA/WPA2-Personal(PSK) things went much smoother. You will probably have to do a reset of your AE by plugging it in, using a pen or paperclip hold in the reset button until the light starts blinking rapidly and then take out the pen/clip. Once you have done that start over on the installation process.
Another possibility is if there are multiple wireless networks in your vicinity you can get interference if they are all competing for the same channel. There is a free application called iStumbler (just Google it) that will look for all the WiFi networks in your area and let you know the channel they are on. If you find several all using the same channel then simple go into your Belkin's settings and change the channel to one not being used. I ran into this problem too, I live in a Condo with 5-6 WiFi Lans all within a close proximity.

  • VPN connection doesn't show up on PC settings list after upgraded to Windows 8.1

I can create VPN connection and I can see it in  "Change Adaptor Settings". But it is not list on the right-side PC setting menu. When I click on the VPN I created, it turns to the right-side PC setting menu. Usually the VPN was listed there
and  click it to connect. But since upgrading to 8.1, the VPN connection is not list on PC settings anymore. Therefore I have no way to connect to VPN.
    Can anyone help?????

  • Ghostly ethernet adaptor

My home wireless network (previously stable for over a year) keeps dropping the connection to the powerbook after 10-15 seconds. When I opened the network bit of system preferences it told me that a new 'ethernet adaptor (en3)' had been detected, but I don't have anything new plugged in. A box appeared that said I should verify the adaptor settings then press OK, but unless I pressed OK I could do nothing else. I pressed it. Rebooting laptop and router does not help and the PCs in the house connect to the router OK both via ethernet and wireless.
The only recent changes are that I have recently joined .mac and the only new software is backup 3.
I don't seem to be able to remove the ethernet (en3) and can only presume that something has gone wrong for it to be detected in the first place.
    Any suggestions?
    Mike

I'm going to guess that you are running Parallels? (If not I have no idea)
If you are they are basically clones of your Ethernet port. En3 is the port windows sees and uses, and En2 is a bridge between that port and the physical port in your computer that OS X uses.
Interesting side effect of it is that Parallels doesn't use the same MAC address as OS X. So if for some reason you MAC is blocked on a network, you can still access the same net work if you boot windows in Parallels. I've been on bandwidth restricted networks and had my MAC address locked before and switching to windows in Parallels always give me access back. Its also kind of amusing because each boot or parallels gives you a new MAC address.

  • Windows 7 laptop "sees" Airport Extreme, but Airport not communicating

Airport Extreme is access point to internet in our home, and has been working fine with all Apple products and my husband's Windows laptop.... until he was forced to update to Windows 7 (work laptop).  Now, although he can physically see the Airport Extreme, it fails to accept the internet key (password) from his laptop.  The key he attempts to use is the same as the one I use to gain internet access from my MacBook Pro - and the password has been verified (Safari/Preferences/Passwords) to be correct - not just from memory.  Anyone else with this issue?  Thanks for your input.

    Hi
Have fitted a Belkin adaptor to laptop running WINXP
    SP1
Wireless connection icon shows in System tray -
    Status shows - General connected - duration 45mins -
speed 11Mbps strength 5 bars activity packets sent
    655 recieved 45,657 - Support Tab Addrdess type/ IP
Address / Subnet / Default Gateway ALL unavailable.
This means that you are not connected merely seeing the network.
Have entered (i think) all detailed at iFelix
    http://www.efelix.co.uk/tech/1010.html including WEP
    password.
You can confirm it is a WEP issue, by turning WEP off, can you now connect?
Are you using MAC Address Access Control? If so have you added the PC's MAC address to the Access List?
Are there any settings i need to make in IE Tools
    Internet Options.
It might also be worthwhile checking your internet settings
Start -> Control Panel -> Internet Options
    Click the Connections tab
Ensure that the Never dial a connection is checked.
    Click LAN Settings
and check that all the settings are unchecked (especially the proxy server settings)...
    What are your TCP/IP settings?
They should be Obtain IP and DNS information automatically.
Airport Extreme is connected via ethernet to Netgear
    834 router
The Airport Extreme should be configured to NOT distribute IP addresses.

  • How do I connect dual PC monitors to my Powermac G5 1.8 GHz?

I have 2 hp L2335 HD monitors I want to use together. They are both DVI monitors, however my G5 has an ADC and DVI plug for it's monitor inputs. The DVI input works fine but when I bought a universal ADC to DVI adapter from Belkin the monitor does not work. The computer recognizes that there is a monitor hooked up (it see it in the prefs display and my mouse can scroll off the screen) but the monitor with the adpater remains black. The monitor also displays an error "No Input Signal" and goes to sleep. It will also say check video connection. My video card is the GeForce FX 5200 Ultra.
    What do you think?

Did you try to hook up both monitors to the Belkin adaptor? Trying will determine if your monitor has a bad input port. See if the Belkin adaptor is the problem. I have never used that specific adaptor, but I have always had luck with the Dr. Bott's DVI for ADC adaptor. Best of luck.

  • Can you actually claim for headphones replacement?

I'm in the UK and I've been trying to use Online Service Assistant to claim for malfunctioning earphones (with remote) according to Apple replacement program. But every try ends right after submiting all details, delivery, billing address and paycard details with "+Your request can't be finished at this moment, please try later...+"
I have no Apple Store anywhere near around, so *what else I can do to get this headphones replaced*? I got proper Serial Number, my Shuffle is out of coverage, but that can't be a problem as everything with online forms goes well until the very last submit.
*Anyone else is having this problem?*

Recently purchased the 3rd Generation iPod Shuffle (Not a serial number included in the replacement program). I have not been able to get through one workout with this product without it failing due to moisture. I bought this shuffle to replace a Nano that never failed during a workout but required the use of an armband. There is clearly something wrong with this product as this is the first iPod, Walkman, Rio, Portable CD player I've ever had that failed during a workout. I was drawn to the small size and I assume most others also purchased this product for exercising. I have also tried both the Belkin Adaptor ($20) and the iLuv Adaptor ($10) and both failed during the first workout as well... usually about 30 minutes before it flakes out. Do not buy this product if you intend to use it exercise with! This is a lemon and should be avoided.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro close open programmes when it sleeps?

    Hi,
I'm having an Auto Sleep issue with my MacBook Pro (13 inch, Mid-2012).
When my mac goes to sleep it closes any and all open programmes. Not only is this annoying but it means the mac can't be left to run a process, such as a length Time Machine back-up, as it will close down the programme mid way through.
The issue happens when running on battery or mains power.
I've gone to System Preferences > Energy Saver > and I've set the Computer Sleep slider-bar to be Never.
I've done this for both Battery and Power Adaptor settings.
I've also made sure the 'Put Hard Disc to Sleep when possible' setting is disabled
I've tried changing to these Power Saver settings then restarting immediately but no joy.
It only seems to happen when the mac goes to sleep from inactivity. If I manually put the mac to sleep it doesn't happen.
It hasn't always done this. It started about a year after I purchased the Mac (new from Apple).
I recently upgraded to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1. and this hasn't done anything to fix it.
I've tried searching the net and various Mac forums and I can't seem to find anyone reporting the exact same issue. I'm hoping someone on here will be able to help.
    Any ideas anyone?

Or take it to your nearest Genius Bar; if there is a problem, you can exchange it for another machine. Or return this one (14 days from the date of purchase if it was purchased from Apple) and buy another.

  • External monitor on MacBook Air looks terrible, recommendations?

I'm a software developer and I want to be able to connect an external monitor to my MacBook Air 11".  The Apple store guy recommended a Belkin adaptor so I can connect my HDMI input devices.  The connection works, but even at 1080p resolution, there are jagged edges and the text looks horrible.  I tried an ASUS monitor and also my Samsung TV.  It looks fine when using my Windows 7 computer.  Is the adaptor no good? Is there a setting to turn on? What am I doing wrong?

  • RFC problem: could not get functionname from XML requst (sic)

I'm developing an interface that attempts to call a receiver RFC on an SAP 4.6c system.  It's a very small simple interface, and it's all working until it tries to call the RFC.  The error is
Exception caught by adapter framework: error while processing message to remote system:com.sap.aii.af.rfc.core.client.RfcClientException: could not get functionname from XML requst: com.sap.aii.af.rfc.RfcAdapterException: failed to read funtionname from XML document: missing namespace declara
I've created an RFC channel, which is green in the adapter monitoring.  The RFC imports without a problem, and appears in my interface mapping.  My mapping program converts to the RFC message type (as evidenced in sxmb_moni.  I have a receiver agreement referencing the interface mapping, which must be working as the mapping is called.
Could anyone point me to what else I could check?  I saw a post about the same error message, where the respondent found something in the logs which helped them  Could you expand on what you found, and in which log please?  Any pointers as to which logging options I could switch on and check would be gratefully received.
    Regards
    Alan Graham

    Thanks for the responses.
I set up a communications channel of type RFC, which is
showing green in the adapter monitor.  If I deliberately
break it, eg by changing the password, the adapter shows
as red in the monitor.  I assume therefore that the
    adaptor settings are correct.
The XML going to the adapter looks correct AFAIK.  My problem is that I don't know enough about the requied XML to know if what I'm seeing in the logs is sufficient.  In SXMB_MONI, in the 'call adapter' section of a failed message, the outbound binding includes
    <SAP:ToInterfaceNamespace>urn:sap-com:document:sap:rfc:functions</SAP:ToInterfaceNamespace>/code]
Also, the interface determination SOAP header, in the MAIN section includes
    [code]<SAP:Receiver>
      <SAP:Party agency="" scheme="" />
      <SAP:Service>D04</SAP:Service>
      <SAP:Interface namespace="urn:sap-com:document:sap:rfc:functions">Z_MPU_3PSCE_FREIGHT_UPLOAD</SAP:Interface>
      </SAP:Receiver>
These are the correct values for the RFC name and the namespace, AFAIK.
I'm using an interface mapping (which uses and ABAP class as the mapping program) which references the interface of the RFC.  The logs tell me this works, ie, the class is called and the resulting XML appears in the payload of the response.

  • Enable/disable wireless whilst Laptop is docked (External Keyboard)

    Portg R700-184
    Part Number : PT311E-02Y01JEN
    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to toggle wireless on/off using an external keyboard for the R700 whilst it is on it's docking station?
We only seem to be able to toggle wireless using the built in keyboard (Fn + F8) key.
Also, is there anyway that wireless can be set to off as default at boot up? Is this something that can be done through the BIOS or perhaps by tweaking a registry key?
    Grateful for any assistance.

may seem like a silly question, but why can't you simply use the laptops keyboard????? or is it just a niggly type issue that you'd rather use external one?
unfortunatley the R700 doesnt have a hardware switch for the wireless so its purely mapped to the Fn key which is a toshiba function, so an external k/b is unlikely to be able to replicate it
you can always disable the wireless through W7 network and sharing centre -> change adaptor settings, so few clicks with the mouse or even shortcut it to taskbar/start menu for easy access.
