Belkin Nostromo n52 and OS X Lion

Hi all,
I just upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard.  On Snow Leopard, I had been using a Belkin Nostromo n52 gaming pad.  It had drivers and a System Preferences setting pane.  Once I upgraded to Lion, the setting pane for the pad still works just like before but now the system doesn't associate the pad with the settings pane.  (I use the settings pane to re-map keys.)  The device still work but only as a standard keyboard, which it is not.
I am using a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-Nick

I have the same problem and came to the same conclusion noted here ... under Lion the Nostromo Array program does not recognize that the device is connected.
But thanks to Nick. I got a copy of ControllerMate ($15) and it's working fine so far.
Some comments notes though. ControllerMate has a significant learning curve. You have to reprogram each key on the Nostromo, but first you have to understand how the programming scheme works. It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it, but it took me a couple of hours to do that.
Also, the hat switch won't work the way you expect it until you cancel out the default values. See this page
http://www.orderedbytes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=256
for info on how to do that. The page also has a file to download that I found useful.
And, setting the color switches is either complicated, or I don't understand it fully yet. So far I don't have that aspect of the Nostromo working properly.
My guess is that once I get this all figured out, I'll keep using ControllerMate even after Belkin upgrades their software. It's a very nice package.

  • Belkin Nostromo n52 not recognized

My game controller Nostromo n52 is not recognized by the new Yosemite upgrade.  Belkin has no software upgrades for this version. Is there anything I can do?

    Hey Phil,
You have to download the Razer Synapses. You can find it the 2.0 version on the Razer website for mac. It is an inclusive suite that will recognize the nostromo, and allow you to configure it. Hope that helps.

  • Belkin's Nostromo N52 does not recognize/work with games

I am using Belkin's Nostromo N52 gamepad with my iMac G5
Recently I installed "James Bond 007 Nightfire" and "Tron 2.0". Nostromo is not recognizing Nightfire at all. When I select the application Nightfire.app, Nostromo does not work as usually when others.
When I select "Tron", even though it looks like is accepted when I actually play the game Nostromo resets automatically by itself to the "global" settings without using the ones I chose for Tron.
I have not experience this issue with any other of the games that I have previously played (Jedi Academy, Halo, Doom 3, Medal of Honor). All these work correctly. Any ideas?

The fan and light issue are the result of using the incorrect PMU reset on your Intel mini. The correct procedure for an Intel mini is the SMC reset, as detailed here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Also keep in mind that the antenna for Wifi on your 2010 mini is on the bottom, so although it may sound odd, you could try flipping the mini over to test for improved signal. While upside down, I suggest a soft towel to avoid scratching the top of the mini. If that test improves or solves your reception issue, the surface the mini is placed on probably is the cause of your reception issues.

  • P35 Neo2/FR and Nostromo n52

I recently built a new system (x-mas present to myself)...
    P35 Neo2 / FR
    core2 duo E6850
    corsair xms2 2gig (twin2x2048-6400c4)
    western digital caviar HD 250gig
    lite on DVD burner
    XFX 8800gt
    XP pro with SP2C OEM
and I stuck it all in a coolermaster CM690 with extreme power duo 650W PS. I'm reusing my current input devices and monitor. I am not overclocking.
Everything works fine except for my Nostromo n52. I can install the latest nostromo drivers/software (version 3.2.4) and device manager shows everything installed and working, but as soon as I plug the N52 in any usb port I instantly get a blue screen BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER crash. One time I got DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I also tried using the older drivers that origionally came with the install CD with the same BUGCODE result. I tried reinstalling XP and chose the repair option thinking that might help but no luck. I downloaded/installed the latest drivers for the mobo from MSI website. The n52 works fine on the asus A7N8X setup that this computer is replacing so i know its functioning.
I though of trying to flash the BIOS to v1.6 since my mobo has v1.4, but I'm a bit reluctant to risk screwing it up being the bios descriptions of what was changed don't appear as though it would help my problem.
Any one run into a similar problem? I can live without my n52 if I have to, but after several years it feels odd not having it under my left hand. Any help/tips/tricks are welcome.

Here is the new situation which is actually the same old situation. I reformated my hard drive and reinstalled win XP pro (sp2). I then installed motherboard drivers and updated XP from windows update. Then I downloaded and installed the latest audio, ethernet, and INF drivers from the MSI website. I didn't install the raid drivers. I downloaded n52 drivers (3.2.4) from belkin website and installed them. I got the little blue icon installed in my system tray that I can use to open the loadout manager and launch editor for the n52. I then checked device manager for any new entries under HID/keyboard/mouse and there were none. I then plugged my n52 into a USB port and windows started giving me those little popup bubbles near the system tray stating new hardware is found. They pop up and disappear faster then i can write it all down, but the last one to popup was `nostromo n52 HID speed pad 2.0 mouse wheel` and then the system crashed to a blue screen BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER error. I then unplugged the n52 and rebooted. I booted to the desktop with the little blue icon still in the system tray. I plugged the n52 back in and DIDN"T crash. I checked device manager and under mouse I have `HID compliant mouse` listed twice, under keyboard I have `HID keyboard device` listed, and under HID I have `HID compliant game controler`, `nostromo n52 HID speed pad 2.0`, and ` nostromo n52 HID speed pad 2.0 mouse wheel` listed. Nothing was showing as being in conflict. I then loaded the game Lord of the Rings Online and played for 5 minutes with the nostromo seeming to work fine. I then logged out of the game and rebooted the computer. A few seconds after rebooting to the desktop the system crashed to BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER. Now the computer crashes the instant i plug in the n52 or upon reaching the desktop if its already plugged in. At the moment i still have the n52 drivers installed but i have the device unplugged.
Yes Maesus, I have reformated and reinstalled XP twice in the last 2 weeks. The computer is only 2 weeks old
NovJoe, the only other USB devices I have are my mouse and a headset/mic I use for ventrillo. I can plug and unplug either of them into any usb port with no problems.
On a side note I noticed something that seems a bit strange but didn't think much of it. Is it normal for device manager AND My Computer to show floppy disk drive A: even though I have NO FLOPPY INSTALLED? This is the first computer I ever had that didn't have a floppy drive so I never would have noticed this before. Both entries will vanish if I disable floppy in the BIOS.

  • ICloud with Numbers and Pages on Lion

I have two computers: an old one with the latest Lion and a new one with the latest Mountain Lion.   I have Numbers09 and Pages09 on both computers, bought long ago on disk. Exactly the same copy, copied from old to new computer.   I don't remember when I got the last update, it was also long ago.  Point is since they did not come from the app store, they did get not automatic updates to keep up with the cloud.  Apple orphaned them long ago.
Now, both Pages and Numbers on the new computer can access iCloud, save docs to the cloud and move docs in and out (although if the new iWorks - iCloud or iOS version touches them, I can no longer open the docs, but that's something else).
On the other hand, Pages and Numbers on Lion cannot access iCloud. There is no iCloud tab like on Pages/Numbers on ML.  Cloud is on, and Docs and Data checked.  It also warns me the local version of cloud docs will be deleted when I uncheck the box.  Cloud on Lion works fine otherwise: bookmarks, contacts, calendar.
My question is: Is this expected or not? If not, how to fix it.
    Thanks in advance

Never mind, now I see quite  a few threads.  It seems Apple disabled ~/Libray/Mobile Documents on Lion...

I had iLife pre-installed on my aluminium Macbook 2009 with OSX Leopard on it. My hard drive broke but got most of the info off it and just installed snow Leopard on to a new drive and then downloaded and installed Mountain Lion over it. Now I don't have iLife anymore. How do I get it back?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Mac OS X doesn't come with iLife applications, so you have to install them manually after installing Mac OS X.
Insert the Applications disc or Mac OS X Install Disc 2 DVD and install iLfe applications. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest update. If you want, you can purchase iMovie, GarageBand and iPhoto in the App Store, so you will get the most recent version

Is it possible to install Lion on the second hard disk on my Mini (2010) Snow Leopard Server, and switch between Lion and Snow Leopard? I like those voices Lion has in speech.

When baltwosaid NO emphatically, that was described as CORRECT ANSWER. Ditto in the caeses of the radically different answers from  Camelotand Matt Clifton
Could it be that CORRECT ANSWER needs better defining by Apple?
That apart, yes, switching might involve rebooting. About the voices, well, I was the other day adding voice to a commentary in a video I was working on. There's only American English accent in SL — Lion I believe has British ones as well.
Why not, I wondered, try to install Lion purely for academic interest, maybe with an SD card (Sandisk Ultra II, 16GB) as Tom Nelson says is possible at http://macs.about.com/od/macoperatingsystems/ss/Perform-A-Clean-Install-Of-Os-X- Lion-On-Your-Mac.htm

  • How can I uninstall Mountain Lion and go back Lion?

I have tried everything. My MacBook Pro is just not the same since ML. I want to get rid of it and go back Lion. What is the easiest way to do so?

Clearing cache is a poor thing to do to improve system performance.
In fact, when you clear cache you actually slow your system down until cache is reloading again.
Yes, it is true cache can get corrupt and have to be cleared. This happens so infrequently that it is almost never a required solution unless you have problems that are specific to corrupt cache.
By the way why are you replying to my post when in fact your comments have nothing to do with my post at all.

  • Black screen and looping after installing and updating Mountain Lion on Macbook pro 2011 13 "i5 2.4Ghz

After first installing the new Mountain Lion upgrading Lion on my Macbook Pro was a little slow, so I decided to format and install Mountain Lion via a thumb drive. After installation on my Macbook Pro was restarting all the time and showing a black screen with codes on the screen. I decided to reformat and reset the PRAM, and that seems to have worked. Occasionally a black screen appears with the codes and my macbook restarts again. Last night I updated the Mountain Lion and error and looping retornartam. I thought I had lost all my works, do more entered in the login screen. I turned off my macbook, went to sleep and this morning I called and finally worked Do not know what's going on in my friends' macbook not occur this problem. The macbook them is the 2011 13 "i5 2.0Ghz and another 2010 and they both work perfectly with the Mountain Lion.
Below is the error that occurred this morning after login.

    Is there a hardware problem?
    thank you

Before you upgrade, make sure all your software supports it based on post July, 25, 2012 reports on
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Reports prior to this date are unreliable, as they are likely with beta releases of Mountain Lion to developers. Other pitfalls to realize include:

Adding redirect path and  pattern in Lion server for configuring software update server.Any changes

Ok, after days of browsing on the forum I found the following hint on another discussion related to AFP access:
"This may be a service ACL issue.
It turns out one of the latest Apple updates turned on Service ACL's which caused AFP connections to be  blocked. Once I fixed the Service ACL in Server Admin... all connections and Single Sign On worked."
Well, after allowing access to all services to all users with Server Admin, we were finally able to log in the server with our admin account...
So, there must have been an update that turned on ACL's which caused even our local access, probably for OD/Kerberos, on the server to be restricted.

  • Wiping HDD and installing Mountain Lion

    Hi,
I have an iMac 24" (early 2009) that is running Lion 10.7.5. I have noticed recently that the computer has been running very slow (long login times, applications take ages to open, beach ball appears frequently - even just browsing) - it has been slow for a while, but not this bad. My first question is: would it be better to upgrade the RAM in my computer first? I can get 8GB RAM for £30. Secondly, I keep a Time Machine back up, and I wouldn't mind wiping the HDD to get rid of a lot of clutter. Would it be as simple as wiping the HDD, just booting Lion again, and then I want to upgrade to Mountain Lion, and restore my music and photos again from the Time Machine backup. Or does it not work this way?
    Thanks,
    Richard.

Upgrading the OS is usually not the answer to a slow system.
How full is your hard drive?  Your profile says 650GB, but how much free space remains?   Performance begins to decline once your drive hits 50% full.  And a  nearly full hard drive will slow down your system to a crawl.  General rule of thumb is to keep at least 20% free, in your case that would be at least 120GB.  That would be the first thing I would check.
Again, general rule of thumb, it's best to have at least 8GB RAM if you are running Lion and especially Mt. Lion.  RAM is relatively cheap right now.  I'd go for it.

I need to update to Lion and then Mountain Lion, but I need a CD or other means to update as my internet is too slow and I have a GB limit. Is this possible?

Thanks for your response. I was told, obviously misinformed, that you needed to dl Lion prior to Mountain Lion, so thanks for clarifying that. I cannot dl from the internet as it is too slow and I have limited GB per month. I know, at one point, you could purchase a jumpdrive with Lion for those of us who have this problem or no internet access. I will check into that via Apple or try to borrow internet service from a friend and move my computer there.
    Thanks again.

  • HT1338 I cannot access my iphoto application on my imac as it says I have made changes in Iphoto using a newer version. We have recently purchased a Macbook Air and this has Lion (as opposed to leopard on the iMac) and we are sharing photos between the 2?

I cannot access my iphoto application on my imac as it says I have made changes in Iphoto using a newer version. We have recently purchased a Macbook Air and this has Lion (as opposed to leopard on the iMac) and we are sharing photos between the 2.  I am awaiting the upgrade discs for snow leopard and then to Lion for the iMac but is there a way to access my photos until this arrives?

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.
