Belkin USB F5D7050 causes panic

I am working on a friend's G4 PowerMac with Leopard. I have been trying to set up a USB wireless adapter F5D7050. I downloaded the Ralink drivers, installed them, plugged in the adapter, found it in the Network prefs and activated it, but as soon as I try to access my router, I get total kernel panic followed by the grey curtain over the screen forcing a shutdown.
Now if I do a restart with the device plugged in, the mac panics on startup at the final windows as it is setting networking up.
Any ideas of things I can try? BTW, I set the same adapter up on my intel macbook with the same drivers and it worked fine (Snow Leopard).
Thanks; Rick

I have solved my issue, but in case anyone else has this problem...
The Belkin F5D7050 uses modified Ralink drivers. The Belkin drivers didn't work for me, nor did the Ralink ones form Ralink's site. I went on the Newer Technology site which also uses modified Ralink drivers according to their product description, but somehow they must be different, as they worked fine on the G4 with the Belkin F5D7050 and it now works.
Better yet, just buy the Newer Technology USB wireless adapter. I wish I had.

I figured I would post this here since I only found un-answered questions here in the support community.
I have an old iMac running Tiger. I have an old Belkin USB wifi stick F5D7050. I found a driver that works.
I found the driver (RalinkUSBDrv1.0.5.0) here: Belkin USB wifi stick F5D7050 & OSx 10.4.11 "Tiger" on treiberupdate.de

    Great info, thanks!
I wonder if these would work also.

  • Belkin USB Switch

How do I get my Belkin USB switch (F1U201) to work with OSX Lion?  It worked with Snow Leopard, but not Lion.

    Is that powered or unpowered?
Lion is a bit hungrier than SL, so there may be less power available for USB ports.  Thus any power the hub can get from a wall socket will always help, even if this is not the primary cause.

  • Belkin USB Switch Problem

    G'day
I have Mac OSX (10.4.6) operating on an iMac with a 2 plug Belkin USB switch that connects to a HP PSC 2210 printer and a Dell running XP. The iMac shows the Belkin switch icon in green and will print with the Dell showing the Belkin switch icon in red - but when I make the switch and the Dell icon goes green and the iMac icon goes red there seems to be no way to make the switch back from red to green on the iMac. When I manually swap the USB cables the Belkin icons immediately swap colours and I can make the switch by clicking on the icon on the Dell - but not on the iMac. Having to manually unplug each time is a pain!
A correct answer gets free cold beer downunder!

  • Printing issues via a Belkin USB hub to a Samsung ML-2240

    Hello All,
I am trying to help a friend of mine setup wireless printing from her Macbook. Unfortunately I don’t know very much about Macs and OSX but I am a quick learner
    The setup:
Virgin Media Cable Modem -> connected (RJ45) to a Wireless Linksys Cable Modem -> connected (RJ45) to a Belkin USB Hub.
From the USB hub I have two printers connected:
    1 x HP Deskjet
    1 x Samsung ML-2240 Laserjet
Both these printers install to the Macbook perfectly as default USB devices (wirelessly) via the USB Hub. They also appear correctly in the Belkin USB Hub software console.
The HP printer works perfectly every time it is used, no issues whatsoever. The Samsung printer prints ok the first time but the print jobs do not disappear from the print queue on the Macbook, the print job doesn’t appear to complete even though it has actually printed without any issue.
The problem this causes is that after the first print job has been printed it is not possible to print again. Even if I delete the print job from the queue manually I cannot still not print a second time. The only way I can get the printer to print again is to unplug and then plug back in the USB cable that is connected to the USB Hub. When I unplug the cable the print job disappears from the queue on the Macbook. I can then reconnect the USB cable and connect to the printer and it will print again.
I have made sure that I have the latest firmware on the Macbook which is running 10.5.* OSX. I have also installed the latest Firmware and Drivers on the Samsung Printer and the USB Hub.
Is there a different way to setup the print queue that you think may help? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I spent 5 hours on this yesterday and it still isn’t working
    Thanks
    M

    Further info:
    - it appears that the firmware version is 5.7 on this AirPort Extreme
    - when I plug in my other printer (Samsung ML-1710), it appears in the list of USB printers in AirPort Utility.
    - unfortunately, the ML-1710 is no longer supported in Snow Leopard
    - under Printer Setup, Driver, I selected Generic PCL Laser Printer for the ML-1710 as a test - the print queue opened, my printer did its "about to print sound", the print queue told me the job had printed, but nothing came out (yes there was paper )
    - found the entry below (from Neptune78 on http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10067336&#10067336) re. driver for ML-1710, followed steps successfully until the final printing part when the printer stalls and pauses @ 10% printing stage
    Any help appreciated

+I got my ML-1710 working today on Snow Leopard. Here's what I did:+
+1. Go to System Preferences -> Print & Fax -> delete printer from the list.+
    +2. Reinstall the drivers found here: http://www.samsung.com/au/support/download/supportDownDetail.do?group=printermul tifunctionfax&type=printermultifunctionfax&subtype=monolaserprinter&modelnm=ML-1710&disp_nm=ML-1710&language=&cate_type=all&mType=DR&dType=D&vType=&cttID =196410&prd_ia_cd=06010400&modelcd=&menu=download&menu2=detail+
+3. Return to System Preferences -> Print & Fax and add the ML-1710 back to the list of printers. In the "Print Using" dropdown, you should be able to select "Samsung ML-1710" (if not automatically selected).+
    +4. Click "Add"+
+You should now be good to go.+

  • Vodaphone dongle causes panic crash. Help please?

It is essential for me to use a Vodaphone dongle for certain work purposes. After installing Snow Leopard, dongle caused panic crash in my MacBook Pro. 4 panic crashes and reports to Apple later ... alert message appears as follows.
    " System/Library/Extensions/USBExpressCard can't wake_Huawei.kext"
Check out support and hit on Welcome Wake Up issues. More like Unwelcome! Is this the problem?
Have reinstalled Leopard since this dongle is the only way to connect at work.
    Any ideas?

    Hi everyone
Vodafone really have not excelled here but today tracked down a solution using the GlobeTrotter application to intall the right modem driver (not sure but I think this was the problem causing kernel panics)
Here is how to do it...
    1. Make sure you delete any extension from the System/Library/Extensions folder containing the word "Huawei" in the file name
    2. Restart
    3. Download latest version of Vodafone Mobile Connect (which by itself will still cause kernel panic if you install and then plug dongle in and install.
    4. Download latest version of GlobeTrotter Connect (http://support.option.com/att/index.php?title=GT%20Connect%20for%20Mac%2010.4.11 ,%2010.5.x%20and%2010.6.x%20and%20Manual&action=module20/index)
    and install it.
If asked to confirm new network preferences do so - this I think installs the updated modem driver which I think was the source of the kernel panic previously.
    5. Then insert USB modem - should not cause kernel panic!
    6. Then run the Vodafone Mobile Connect software and press Activate
It works and does not crash!!
    Good luck!

  • HP Laserjet 4100 and Belkin USB Parallel Printer Adapter

I'm a brand new Mac user. I wanted to connect my Mac to my existing HP Laserjet 4100 printer. To do that, I had to purchase a Belkin USB Parallel Printer Adapter. I saw that Mac wasn't supported by this adapter, so I called Belkin and they said it was supported. Tried to set it up and failed. Called Apple for help, was on the phone for quite a long time, and no luck. Went to HP site to load drivers, and no luck. I contacted HP online and was told this product is no longer supported.
So right now when I try to print, I get a message that says the printer is offline...but it's not. Anyone have any ideas for a workaround?
Thanks so much for any thoughts.

I think you should be a little more patient in trying to find a solution. I have an HP Laserjet 4ML from 1992 that I still use every day.
In my case, I purchased an HP Jetdirect external parallel print server and have the printer connected to my router that way.
You may also want to power off the printer, reset Printing System, and then power on the printer and re-Add it in Print & Fax.

  • USB ports causing lag/freezes

    Hi,
Hoping I am posting this in the right place. So, just recently Ive been having some problems with my HP Pavilion laptop. Having a mouse plugged into any of the three USB ports causes sound lag, fps drop and stutters on the movement of the mouse.
I first noticed this in a game where the sound started breaking up along with some frame rate stutter. Checked sound drivers etc and no problems found. Eventually made the link between having a mouse plugged in and the problem occuring. To clarify, when I unplug the mouse all of the problems stop. I can plug the mouse back in and all will be fine for a few minutes and then the stuttering etc will start again.
The problem persists regardless of which port the mouse is plugged into and I have tried a couple of different mice so the problem seems to be internal to the laptop. All the mouse drivers are up to date as are the USB drivers.
Rather at a loss - im hoping someone here can shed some light on the issue.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

    @-Banzai- ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums.  This may be due to recent windows updates.
Please try doing a system restore back before the problem started.
Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)
If that does not fix it then check this  out.
Go to control panel, system, device manger....under Human Interface Devices, delete all items and reboot.  The system will reinstall the drivers and hopefully your mouse will work.
Please let me know how things go.
Thank you again for posting and have a great day.

  • Can i connect to a 'belkin USB Hub' so i can print and save images direct from my ipad 2..

I have just bought a 'Belkin USB Hub' so that i can have my printer and external hard drive in a home office rather than carting them around the house or having to sit in my back room when i want to print from my mac lap top, works fine , but my question is, is it possible to connect my ipad 2 to the hub so i can edit and print directly from that rather than having to re-sync to my laptop.

The only solution to enable printing with the iPad is via WiFi or by using one of the HP AirPrint compatible printers.

If you don't own of these printers you will need a third party app that will allow you to print. Print n Share, Print Central, and others are available in the App Store. Some of these apps will work only if your computer is turned on and may need a helper app for the computer as well. if you have a Mac you can use Printopia. The computer must be on for this app as well. Print Magic has been mentioned on this site a few times. Google or check the App Store.

  • Lion will not allow my Belkin USB hub to work

Since having upgraded to Lion, my Belkin USB no longer works. At start-up a get a message asking that install software for the Hub, but of ourse the software disc pre-dates Lion and there is nothing on the Belkin website to offer guidance.
    Any ideas please?

Did you get it working? - I've got the same problem and no response from Belkin.... Edit: Just logged in and I did get a response and my question maked as "resolved".

  • Mac OS 10.5.5 and Belkin USB Bluetooth Adapter

I upgraded to Mac OS 10.5.5. this morning and upon restart I lost the ability to turn on Bluetooth (Belkin USB bluetooth adapter). The adapter is visible to the computer, but it can no longer be turned on so I can benefit from its use. I checked Belkin's site -- no upgrade there. I believe it is an OS 10.5.5. issue since it worked before the upgrade. I have tried looking at Bluetooth preferences -- the option to turn on is "greyed" out. File Sharing, Network, and Security system preferences were of no help. Anyone have any ideas.
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Hi there,
Did you ever resolve this problem, because I am having exactly the same problem with my Intel iMac running 10.5.5 and Belkin F8T012 USB Bluetooth.
I too have found that using "Bluetooth file exchange" seems to turn on Bluetooth, so thanks for that advice, but it's hardly acceptable is it?
I can plug the same USB into my laptop (running 10.4) and it turns on perfectly!

  • Airport Extreme, Belkin USB Hub, and external hard drive

I'm having a serious meltdown. I've been at this all day long and I've reviewed SEVERAL, if not all, discussion threads. I've seen my question many times on many threads, but yet to find a solution!
Just got the hub, and I tried today to connect the Belkin USB hub so I could get my external hard drive accessible from my Mac. My external drive worked fine on my PC. I recently moved to Mac.
Printer works with no issue at all, but my external drive does not even list in either the Disk Utility or System Profiler. It just doesn't get recognized. I've tried EVERYTHING...switching ports, connecting directly to my Macbook, restarting, etc., etc., etc. NOTHING.
Anyone have any insight to this? I'm ready to throw in the towel.

Ok I'll try that! Uh oh...now I can't even see the external drive on my PC! I also spent some time looking at the manufacturer's website to see if there's any software I may have downloaded before using the hard drive, but the website is not helpful in that capacity (www.cavalrystorage.com). I don't remember having software when I first started using it. Furthermore, I just looked at paperwork I received when I got the drive back in Nov.06 and it says not to use "the CD if you have Windows", (to install a driver, perhaps?) which of course, I did. But now I can't find what disc I may have gotten with the drive. It also had no specific instructions for a Mac. Although the external drive has wonderful reviews, and says you can use it with a PC or Mac. I hope this helps. I certainly appreciate your help!
I'm starting to think something has gone awry with the external hard drive? I've tried connecting through the hub (my printer works at least!), direct to AirPort, and direct to laptop and nothing.

  • Virtual PC v 6.10 and the Belkin USB Serial Adapter F5U103

Trying to run Virtual PC v6.10 on a G4 with OS 10.4.10.using Windows XP.
When booted up in OS 9 my Belkin USB Serial Adapter F5U103 is recognized along with the hardware connected to it. Not so when booted up in OS X. Will purchasing a new Mac that can boot up in Windows XP possibly have the same issue (i.e. not recognizing the Belkin USB Serial Adapter F5U103)?

I'm running Virtual PC v 6.10 because I only need it for one application that I run at most once every two weeks. Do you think v. 7 will allow me to use the Belkin USB Serial Adapter F5U103 on OS X?

  • Hooking a camera to Nomad jukebox Zen Xtra using a belkin USB bri

Has anyone tried to transfer files from a digital camera to a Nomad jukebox Zen Xtra using a belkin USB bridge? Or any of the other Creative Mp3 players? If not does anyone know any other way to use the mp3 player as photo storage when traveling without use of computer?

It certainly won't work with the Zen players because they use a non-standard format.
There's the possibility that it should work with the MuVo players as they are just USB mass storage, but I've heard mention of someone that supposedly tried it and it doesn't. Am I right in thinking the Belkin USB bridge is for the iPod, or is it supposed to work for any USB mass storage player?
