Belkin USB Switch Problem

G'day
I have Mac OSX (10.4.6) operating on an iMac with a 2 plug Belkin USB switch that connects to a HP PSC 2210 printer and a Dell running XP. The iMac shows the Belkin switch icon in green and will print with the Dell showing the Belkin switch icon in red - but when I make the switch and the Dell icon goes green and the iMac icon goes red there seems to be no way to make the switch back from red to green on the iMac. When I manually swap the USB cables the Belkin icons immediately swap colours and I can make the switch by clicking on the icon on the Dell - but not on the iMac. Having to manually unplug each time is a pain!
A correct answer gets free cold beer downunder!

Is that powered or unpowered?
Lion is a bit hungrier than SL, so there may be less power available for USB ports.  Thus any power the hub can get from a wall socket will always help, even if this is not the primary cause.

  • DVI to VGA via Belkin SOHO Switch Problems

Hi, I've searched and emailed Belkin support and no luck.
I am using DVI out through a DVI -> VGA adapter (tried Apple® branded and non) then through the company supplied Belkin SOHO VGA KVM switch.
My MBP detects the external display fine, but no video is displayed.
Other monitors/projectors without the Belkin switch are fine using the DVI->VGA adaptor. And I've used the DVI straight out for years without a problem.
Belkin's tech support couldn't figure it out and just recommended that I buy a DVI KVM switch. Nice.
    Anyone?
    Thanks in advance!

What kind of display is it?
Other monitors/projectors without the Belkin switch are fine using the DVI->VGA adaptor.
Other monitors? What about the one connected to the Belkin switch? Does it work fine when driven directly without the Belkin switch?

  • Canon printer and usb switch

Canon Pixma MP 600 and iMac running 10.4.9...won't recognize printer if I go thru Belkin USB switch...works if I hook up directly to printer and PC works going thru the switch...any suggestions?

Thanks for feedback....but no idea what a "KVM" is...I presume another model of switch? I wouldn't mind spending the 50 bucks for a new one if I knew it would solve the problem (switch that is).

  • Problem with iBook G4 and Belkin KVM switch

I purchased an iBook G4 a few months ago, and then recently got a Belkin KVM switch to share a monitor with my Windows XP computer. The switch is powered over USB (so uses a USB mouse and keyboard). It worked great up until recently. Now, whenever I switch over to the iBook, it shows the OSX desktop, and you can hear the USB devices (mouse and keyboard) "unplug" from the XP box (familiar USB sound on XP). Then, after about 2 or 3 seconds, it goes back to the XP display and re-enables the USB mouse and keyboard in XP. The only thing I can figure is that the KVM switch is not getting any or enough power from the iBook USB to let it know it's there. I should mention that the only thing I did different in between the time it worked and started to not work was plug in an M-Audio Fasttrack USB guitar device to the iBook at the same time. Both the KVM and Fasttrack worked together only once. Now, the KVM won't work, both alone and with the Fasttrack. I have used the Fasttrack before and it worked just fine, but this was the first time I used it with the KVM together.
I have seen a few posts on this general topic, but none that I saw had any possible solutions. Could it be an OSX update that broke this somehow? Thanks.

Well, I managed to figure out the problem. I called Belkin, and they suggested unplugging everything and then plugging it back in. And, wouldn't you know, it worked. I'm not sure why, but I'm not complaining. So, if anyone else runs into this same issue, try this.

  • Problem connecting belkin wemo switch to hime hub ...

Have a belkin wemo switch which connected to network with no issues using old netgear router.
Now we have upgraded to BTs home hub 4, we cannot get the wemo device to connect to the network,
Has anyone else experienced this and are you able to offer us any advice?

The IP subnet is different on the home hubs. Reset your Belkin device to factory default, and set it up again, it should pick up the correct IP and subnet.

  • MSI has a serious KVM switch problem.

On the K8N the iogear USB KVM switches DO NOT WORK. I have two computers.. one with an asus board and one with an MSI. Works fine on the asus board. I did a search and noticed another guy was having the same problems. So its a error that MSI needs to fix. Have they fixed it yet? If not it really needs to be looked into.

Well the PS/2 type Iogear works fine. It is just the USB version that does not with this board. That sux because I need the USB version so it will recognize my MX 500 mouse. If you place an adaptor on the PS/2 version it just sees it as a standard mouse thus not enabling the other buttons.
The belkin USB 2 port KVM works fine but the damn thing has no hot key switching and it is slow.
Could you not use a USB > PS2 adapter for your mouse and run your mouse off PS2 and use a PS2 KVM? I use a MX700 mouse on the PS2 port and with mouseware installed, all my extra (5) buttons work fine

  • USB Switch for P1006?

Please help!  I probably need to learn to set up a network, but for now I am trying to use  a Belkin F1U200 4-port  switch so that my HP P1006 Laserjet can work from two computers.  I am getting a "USB Device Not Recognized" message in my icon tray and the printer will not work..  I have two switches and have tried both with my Brother All in One -- they work.
!) Is there a USB switch that will work with the P1006?
    2) I have read that there is a LAN Adapter available for it -- is this hardware software and where can I get it?
    3) Is networking a good way to share my printers with my computers?  (Better than manual switching)
I have one 32 bit Vista unit right now and will be adding the Compaq CQ5700F with Windows 7 shortly.
I appreciate any help you can offer,

But what I did find interesting was that the USB switch device has 2 USB devices you can switch. I added the second device which is a USB Hard Drive and it switches just fine. I wonder why it does but not the keyboard?
Keyboards & mice are unique among USB devices. I don't know the exact details, but from my limited understanding, in general a USB device can only be controlled by one computer. So with a KVM, you normally present a virtual keyboard and mouse to the computer so that when you switch, you're not actually disconnecting the keyboard/mouse. This minimizes problems when each computer has the keyboard in a different state. For example, when one computer has the caps lock on and another doesn't.
In your case, I'm wondering if the Kensington isn't really acting as a KVM, but just a USB switch. So the keyboard is not reset properly after the switch. Thus the need to unplug the keyboard, which resets it. Non-HID devices may be fine, but just not HID, which is why I suggested a different keyboard on the chance that a different one may "reset faster" or whatever when being switched. (And preferably a different model of keyboard to ensure that it's not something inherent in the design of that model keyboard.)

  • Can I share my iPod with other devices using a USB *Switch*?

    Hello
I'm trying to design a set up that will allow me to share my iPod with my PS3, Xbox 360, and G4 Powerbook. I only need to use one sharing device at a time.
As of now I plan to have my 30Gb iPod Video, a USB Keyboard, and USB Mouse, running through a Belkin USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Hub. The hub will plug into a 4-way manual USB switch. (allowing me switch between the PS3, 360, and G4 devices)
My goal is to easily switch and stream content to any device from my iPod, as well as provide the switched device with instant access to the Keyboard and mouse plugged into the hub. Hopefully the hub will also be able to power the ipod and and charge a bluetooth headset as well.
I'd like to know if anyone has experience with a similar setup, and more specifically if there are any reasons why this wouldn't work properly?
My main worry is that there is no way to eject the iPod on the Xbox 360 or the PS3. So if I switched the USB port while the iPod is reading "Do Not Disconnect", do I risk corrupting the data or otherwise harm the iPod?
Any help would be appreciated, please let me know if I should clarify any details.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Lion will not allow my Belkin USB hub to work

Since having upgraded to Lion, my Belkin USB no longer works. At start-up a get a message asking that install software for the Hub, but of ourse the software disc pre-dates Lion and there is nothing on the Belkin website to offer guidance.
    Any ideas please?

  • Mac OS 10.5.5 and Belkin USB Bluetooth Adapter

I upgraded to Mac OS 10.5.5. this morning and upon restart I lost the ability to turn on Bluetooth (Belkin USB bluetooth adapter). The adapter is visible to the computer, but it can no longer be turned on so I can benefit from its use. I checked Belkin's site -- no upgrade there. I believe it is an OS 10.5.5. issue since it worked before the upgrade. I have tried looking at Bluetooth preferences -- the option to turn on is "greyed" out. File Sharing, Network, and Security system preferences were of no help. Anyone have any ideas.
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Hi there,
Did you ever resolve this problem, because I am having exactly the same problem with my Intel iMac running 10.5.5 and Belkin F8T012 USB Bluetooth.
I too have found that using "Bluetooth file exchange" seems to turn on Bluetooth, so thanks for that advice, but it's hardly acceptable is it?
I can plug the same USB into my laptop (running 10.4) and it turns on perfectly!

  • Airport Extreme, Belkin USB Hub, and external hard drive

I'm having a serious meltdown. I've been at this all day long and I've reviewed SEVERAL, if not all, discussion threads. I've seen my question many times on many threads, but yet to find a solution!
Just got the hub, and I tried today to connect the Belkin USB hub so I could get my external hard drive accessible from my Mac. My external drive worked fine on my PC. I recently moved to Mac.
Printer works with no issue at all, but my external drive does not even list in either the Disk Utility or System Profiler. It just doesn't get recognized. I've tried EVERYTHING...switching ports, connecting directly to my Macbook, restarting, etc., etc., etc. NOTHING.
Anyone have any insight to this? I'm ready to throw in the towel.

Ok I'll try that! Uh oh...now I can't even see the external drive on my PC! I also spent some time looking at the manufacturer's website to see if there's any software I may have downloaded before using the hard drive, but the website is not helpful in that capacity (www.cavalrystorage.com). I don't remember having software when I first started using it. Furthermore, I just looked at paperwork I received when I got the drive back in Nov.06 and it says not to use "the CD if you have Windows", (to install a driver, perhaps?) which of course, I did. But now I can't find what disc I may have gotten with the drive. It also had no specific instructions for a Mac. Although the external drive has wonderful reviews, and says you can use it with a PC or Mac. I hope this helps. I certainly appreciate your help!
I'm starting to think something has gone awry with the external hard drive? I've tried connecting through the hub (my printer works at least!), direct to AirPort, and direct to laptop and nothing.

  • Printing issues via a Belkin USB hub to a Samsung ML-2240

    Hello All,
I am trying to help a friend of mine setup wireless printing from her Macbook. Unfortunately I don’t know very much about Macs and OSX but I am a quick learner
    The setup:
Virgin Media Cable Modem -> connected (RJ45) to a Wireless Linksys Cable Modem -> connected (RJ45) to a Belkin USB Hub.
From the USB hub I have two printers connected:
    1 x HP Deskjet
    1 x Samsung ML-2240 Laserjet
Both these printers install to the Macbook perfectly as default USB devices (wirelessly) via the USB Hub. They also appear correctly in the Belkin USB Hub software console.
The HP printer works perfectly every time it is used, no issues whatsoever. The Samsung printer prints ok the first time but the print jobs do not disappear from the print queue on the Macbook, the print job doesn’t appear to complete even though it has actually printed without any issue.
The problem this causes is that after the first print job has been printed it is not possible to print again. Even if I delete the print job from the queue manually I cannot still not print a second time. The only way I can get the printer to print again is to unplug and then plug back in the USB cable that is connected to the USB Hub. When I unplug the cable the print job disappears from the queue on the Macbook. I can then reconnect the USB cable and connect to the printer and it will print again.
I have made sure that I have the latest firmware on the Macbook which is running 10.5.* OSX. I have also installed the latest Firmware and Drivers on the Samsung Printer and the USB Hub.
Is there a different way to setup the print queue that you think may help? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I spent 5 hours on this yesterday and it still isn’t working
    Thanks
    M

    Further info:
    - it appears that the firmware version is 5.7 on this AirPort Extreme
    - when I plug in my other printer (Samsung ML-1710), it appears in the list of USB printers in AirPort Utility.
    - unfortunately, the ML-1710 is no longer supported in Snow Leopard
    - under Printer Setup, Driver, I selected Generic PCL Laser Printer for the ML-1710 as a test - the print queue opened, my printer did its "about to print sound", the print queue told me the job had printed, but nothing came out (yes there was paper )
    - found the entry below (from Neptune78 on http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10067336&#10067336) re. driver for ML-1710, followed steps successfully until the final printing part when the printer stalls and pauses @ 10% printing stage
    Any help appreciated

+I got my ML-1710 working today on Snow Leopard. Here's what I did:+
+1. Go to System Preferences -> Print & Fax -> delete printer from the list.+
    +2. Reinstall the drivers found here: http://www.samsung.com/au/support/download/supportDownDetail.do?group=printermul tifunctionfax&type=printermultifunctionfax&subtype=monolaserprinter&modelnm=ML-1710&disp_nm=ML-1710&language=&cate_type=all&mType=DR&dType=D&vType=&cttID =196410&prd_ia_cd=06010400&modelcd=&menu=download&menu2=detail+
+3. Return to System Preferences -> Print & Fax and add the ML-1710 back to the list of printers. In the "Print Using" dropdown, you should be able to select "Samsung ML-1710" (if not automatically selected).+
    +4. Click "Add"+
+You should now be good to go.+

  • Belkin USB wireless adaptor drivers

Does anyone know where I can get a driver for the belkin usb wireless adaptor? The one listed on their website only works with OSX 10.3 and not 10.4 installed on this machine? do apple provide any third party drivers for this problem? The machine is out of its applecare period so I can't ask apple themselves.

If Belkin doesn't have a driver compatible with 10.4 you're out of luck. Apple does not provide drivers for third party hardware.

  • Keithley usb-gpib problems

    Hi
I have installed a Keithley USB-GPIB switch (CE 488) and suddenly my executable does not run properly, gets stuck and throws data that is not true.
The NI-MAX shows an unknown VISA entity.
If I am using VISA/GPIB write/read sub.vi in my program will it influence the proper running of my executable?

Hi (my prior name was Dect&Bluetooth),
I have run on third party connectivity software (Intuilink from Agilent and CMD2Go from Rohde&Schwarz) on the Keithley Usb-Switch and it worked.
My program still makes problems as described before, maybe due to the fact that I am using a NI VISA READ/WRITE in some cases?
I have added a Spy file to show you the fails, I have changed the suffix to txt, you have to change it back to .spy in order to be able to read it.
Does it mean that I cannot use SCPI commands with NI VISA in order to use this adptor?
    Thanks for any help.
