Belkin USB wifi stick F5D7050 & OSx 10.4.11 "Tiger"

I figured I would post this here since I only found un-answered questions here in the support community.
I have an old iMac running Tiger. I have an old Belkin USB wifi stick F5D7050. I found a driver that works.
I found the driver (RalinkUSBDrv1.0.5.0) here: Belkin USB wifi stick F5D7050 & OSx 10.4.11 "Tiger" on treiberupdate.de
-m

Great info, thanks!
I wonder if these would work also.

I have an iMac G4 and need to connect it to the internet. Do I need to buy an airport card or can I just use a normal USB wifi stick?

Will this need to be a special mac compatible one or will they all be fine?
You need to see "works on Mac" on the box. All such deveices require a driver. The adaptor would work in many cases except for the lack of Mac drivers. Some companies have the proper Mac drivers on their web sites, some shuffle you off to suspect third-party sites, and some have no Mac drivers at all. If you want to buy one adaptor, not have to return it or send hours searcing the web for a driver that works, look at this one:

  • Is there a problem with USB Memory Sticks and OSX?

This may not be the correct forum for this question but I don't know where else to ask!
I am having problems with a 64GB USB Memory Stick. Acrobat Reader can't read a pdf file on the memory stick but no problem from the hard drive. Acrobat Reader won't work from the memory stick. Music files (aif) won't play from the memory stick.
The memory stick came formatted for MS-DOS but I re-formatted it to MAC-OS Extended. I can write files to it but they don't seem to work from there. Is there some incompatability with OSX that I am not aware of? I would welcome some advice.

MAke sure the drive is inserted and mounted, then launch Terminal from /Applications/Utilities.  Type:
    mount
    and hit Enter.
One of the lines returned will contain the words, "/Volumes/<name of your flash drive>".  Copy that whole line and paste it here so we can see what's up.

  • Usb wifi compatible with osx 10.8

Hi I need to buy a usb wifi adapter for my macbook pro 13' mid 2009. The airport card won't work anymore. It's not a problem with airport itself, it seems the problem has something to do with some sort of connection problem between the airport card, bluetooth, the webcam and the mother board, and to repair that connection would be expensive. Does anyone know of any usb wifi adapter which would work with osx 10.8? 150 or 300 MPS? Thank you.

  • Wifi usb, wifi liberator. Has any one tried it?

I found this wifi liberator program online ( http://www.coin-operated.com/projects/wifiliberator.html ) it seems like a sick program that would be very useful to me. in order for it to work you need a usb wifi stick. the program wont even open up on my computer so i dont know if thats because it needs a working usb stick, or it just doesn't like me. I went to micro center and bought a usb wifi stick by trend net( it was only 5 bucks after rebate). the program still doesn't open. osx recognizes it in system profiler under the usb section. do i need a driver, or has anyone successfully used wifi liberator. thanks alot for your help.

There may be a few problems in using this technology; one may be in
the security issues which could arise from becoming an open hub to
wireless internet (the host computer is open to two-way traffic between
all computers sharing this new allegedly free network) and thus, it may
be more open to attacks since its ports would be open.
While there well may be ways to protect a computer in that situation,
should it be a problem; other conditional and legal matters may be
worth investigating prior to using the software and doing what they
suggest. There are laws in some situations where it is illegal to
share an internet service intended to be accessed by a limited group.
Even sitting outside a public library and using your portable computer's
wi-fi may be seen as illegal theft of a service since you are not inside
and the service is intended for the library's clients who may have to
sign in and log-on. Until uniform use rules are standardized, or maybe
removed (unlikely) one has to be careful and thoughtful of them.
I've read about similar free-access technologies, and have also read
of prosecutions or fines from what was called illegal access [or theft
of service] so I could not endorse the use of any product to do this.
While in some locations it may not be specifically illegal, it could be.
It is quite another matter to set up your own paid wi-fi subscription to
share (for free) to a limited number of trusted persons, with a firewall
    and other protections in place for your and their equipment and privacy;
but to consider other's paid for services as fair game is probably illegal.
But, that's just my opinion; however I arrived at it without bias and
through online and news sources. Your mileage may vary.
PS: Perhaps the application is not updated to work with the
last security updates and other feature sets in OSX? The site
says it is supposed to work with the AirPort hardware installed.
What kind of computer/model/configuration do you have?

  • USB WIFI solution for iBook G4 with broken AirPort

Hi folks, I posted earlier about my iBook G4 which just recently began having the dreaded AirPort related kernel panics. The machine works fine with AirPort disabled, and now I'm looking for a USB wifi stick (dongle) that will keep me wireless.
There are tons of posts on the web regarding different wifi sticks that kind of work, but I'm looking for definitive references on which are the best. I'm mostly concerned with flaky drivers. Some time ago, I tried out the D-Link G-122 with correct chipset and Ralinktech drivers. The drivers were horrible and the D-Link eventually just burned out.
Since then there have been several more USB sticks that claim to work in 10.4.x, but I see several of them use the same drivers. WHERE IS THE SOLUTION TO MAKE ALL THESE BUSTED IBOOKS WIRELESS AGAIN??? And I don't mean a new logic board! It sounds like most folks say to go with an ethernet bridge, but that's not what I'm looking for, as I'm tethered to an ethernet cable already.
Here are a few USB Wifi sticks I've come across recently. Can anyone comment on any of these and success with 10.4.x or iBooks?

If it is sold by Macsales, chances are it will work.
But I will also say this as a qualifier. If your iBook G4 predates the introduction of USB 2 on the iBook G4, your best speed on a USB WiFi is going to be 12 Mbps. And that's if no other USB devices are hooked up to it, because it has one USB bus. You are much better off getting the airport card inside the iBook replaced by an authorized dealer. Anything that will cause damage to internal components of the machine likely will affect more than one part of the machine, and you just happen to be lucky that it hasn't caused further problems for you. It does not pay to have a machine limping. Get the entire machine fixed.

  • Belkin USB F5D7050 causes panic

I am working on a friend's G4 PowerMac with Leopard. I have been trying to set up a USB wireless adapter F5D7050. I downloaded the Ralink drivers, installed them, plugged in the adapter, found it in the Network prefs and activated it, but as soon as I try to access my router, I get total kernel panic followed by the grey curtain over the screen forcing a shutdown.
Now if I do a restart with the device plugged in, the mac panics on startup at the final windows as it is setting networking up.
Any ideas of things I can try? BTW, I set the same adapter up on my intel macbook with the same drivers and it worked fine (Snow Leopard).
    Thanks; Rick

I have solved my issue, but in case anyone else has this problem...
The Belkin F5D7050 uses modified Ralink drivers. The Belkin drivers didn't work for me, nor did the Ralink ones form Ralink's site. I went on the Newer Technology site which also uses modified Ralink drivers according to their product description, but somehow they must be different, as they worked fine on the G4 with the Belkin F5D7050 and it now works.
Better yet, just buy the Newer Technology USB wireless adapter. I wish I had.

  • Can i connect to a 'belkin USB Hub' so i can print and save images direct from my ipad 2..

I have just bought a 'Belkin USB Hub' so that i can have my printer and external hard drive in a home office rather than carting them around the house or having to sit in my back room when i want to print from my mac lap top, works fine , but my question is, is it possible to connect my ipad 2 to the hub so i can edit and print directly from that rather than having to re-sync to my laptop.

The only solution to enable printing with the iPad is via WiFi or by using one of the HP AirPrint compatible printers.

If you don't own of these printers you will need a third party app that will allow you to print. Print n Share, Print Central, and others are available in the App Store. Some of these apps will work only if your computer is turned on and may need a helper app for the computer as well. if you have a Mac you can use Printopia. The computer must be on for this app as well. Print Magic has been mentioned on this site a few times. Google or check the App Store.

  • USB Wifi Adapter troubleshooting

    Hello everybody,
As many people I confront a lot of problems related to wifi on my macbook after upgrading to lion. Tryed many ways to fix it but it just keeps coming back so I found an USB dongle wich I had for a while. It has a Realtek RTL8188CUS Chipset and looks similar to the one in the picture. It suppose to work on the MAC.
    Problem:
I have no provided CD for drivers, but found them on the realtek website http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=48&Level=5& Conn=4&ProdID=274&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false&Downloads=true .
    Basicly what should happen:
    1. I install the drivers
    2. Restart the macbook
    3. After booting up I insert the donge
    4. Widow pops up for configuring new network adapter and installs rquired client software.
But after rebooting my mashine and inserting donge nothing happens. I tried to look up in system prefrences, network diagnostics. Doesnt look that it even recognises something here.
In System Information under USB I can see this:
         Composite Device:
           Product ID:          0x8176
Vendor ID:          0x0bda  (Realtek Semiconductor Corp.)
           Version:          2.00
           Serial Number:          00e04c000001
           Speed:          Up to 480 Mb/sec
           Manufacturer:          RR
           Location ID:          0xfd100000 / 3
           Current Available (mA):          500
           Current Required (mA):          500
I have two macs at home, one runs lion second runs snow leopard. Both act the same. Tried many different drivers, watched some videos on youtube even found the manual online which was not helpful at all.
Maybe there is someone who had this issue before or maybe just has some ideas about it?
    Thank you for the support!

    James,
I have been getting exactly the same problem on my Oct-2011 macbook pro. OSX Lion 10.7.3.
I have been searching various websites for solutions.   There are various stories about upgrades, reboots, drivers, OS versions.  Everytime someone says one of them works 5 others reply, "It didn't for me".
The most frequent and plausible explanation seemed to be the macbook pro aluminium frame blocked radio signals.   Mine works perfectly if i'm in the same rooom or the next room to the router. But elsewhere I've got a 50/50 shot that it will connect or be fast enough to browse the web. My old Dell had a good connection every single time from anywhere in the house.
I eventually decided to bypass the problem by installing a usb wifi dongle.  I went to my apple supplier. Peats of Parnell St. Dublin. They recommended edimax ew-7622UMn. I just plugged it in and to see what would happen, which was nothing.
I loaded the mac driver from the cd. rebooted, plugged it in again; still nothing... It couldn't even tell if there was something attached.
I downloaded the latest mac driver from the edimax website; still nothing.
So I decided to-****-with-it.  I brought them both back to where I got them. They could do no better. The USB dongle wroked perfectly in every PC in the store and saw their wifi network. my Macbook pro and every apple machine they had couldn't even see the thing. Then they tried another MAC compatible wifi dongle; they got the same results on my machine and others. They suggested I call Edimax support.
Edimax said it should work fine and that they never saw this problem before!!!
The reason I bought a macbook is because I don't have time for this stuff. I just wanted a machine that works. That's exactly what it does 50% of the time. The other 50% I get a slow or no wifi connection
If you or anyone figures out how to make USB wifi work with a MacBookPro please post the answer. I just want reliable wifi from my Home office.

  • Belkin USB Switch

How do I get my Belkin USB switch (F1U201) to work with OSX Lion?  It worked with Snow Leopard, but not Lion.

    Is that powered or unpowered?
Lion is a bit hungrier than SL, so there may be less power available for USB ports.  Thus any power the hub can get from a wall socket will always help, even if this is not the primary cause.

  • Belkin USB Switch Problem

    G'day
I have Mac OSX (10.4.6) operating on an iMac with a 2 plug Belkin USB switch that connects to a HP PSC 2210 printer and a Dell running XP. The iMac shows the Belkin switch icon in green and will print with the Dell showing the Belkin switch icon in red - but when I make the switch and the Dell icon goes green and the iMac icon goes red there seems to be no way to make the switch back from red to green on the iMac. When I manually swap the USB cables the Belkin icons immediately swap colours and I can make the switch by clicking on the icon on the Dell - but not on the iMac. Having to manually unplug each time is a pain!
A correct answer gets free cold beer downunder!

  • HP530 not hibernating when USB WLAN stick plugged in, works unplugged.

This problem came up when the laptop's builtin wlan card didn't connect to our wlan because of the 13 byte key (5 byte key worked fine but my dad wants to use the 13 byte key). I tried using an external USB wlan stick which connected fine to our network. However hibernating doesn't work when the stick is plugged in. I have tried s2disk and pm-hibernate, both fail. I have also tried two different wlan sticks, hibernation fails with both.

Here is how the hibernation fails. Screen goes black except a white cursor blinking in the corner. The login prompts in consoles remain active and I can change consoles with CTRL-ALT-F1 etc. Login prompts don't take keystrokes though.
However, hibernation does work when the sticks are not connected.
This isn't a really big problem but trying to remember plugging/unplugging the stick is quite annoying.
Is there any way to fix this?
P.S. I will post more after I get the logs and some other info.

  • Printing issues via a Belkin USB hub to a Samsung ML-2240

    Hello All,
I am trying to help a friend of mine setup wireless printing from her Macbook. Unfortunately I don’t know very much about Macs and OSX but I am a quick learner
    The setup:
Virgin Media Cable Modem -> connected (RJ45) to a Wireless Linksys Cable Modem -> connected (RJ45) to a Belkin USB Hub.
From the USB hub I have two printers connected:
    1 x HP Deskjet
    1 x Samsung ML-2240 Laserjet
Both these printers install to the Macbook perfectly as default USB devices (wirelessly) via the USB Hub. They also appear correctly in the Belkin USB Hub software console.
The HP printer works perfectly every time it is used, no issues whatsoever. The Samsung printer prints ok the first time but the print jobs do not disappear from the print queue on the Macbook, the print job doesn’t appear to complete even though it has actually printed without any issue.
The problem this causes is that after the first print job has been printed it is not possible to print again. Even if I delete the print job from the queue manually I cannot still not print a second time. The only way I can get the printer to print again is to unplug and then plug back in the USB cable that is connected to the USB Hub. When I unplug the cable the print job disappears from the queue on the Macbook. I can then reconnect the USB cable and connect to the printer and it will print again.
I have made sure that I have the latest firmware on the Macbook which is running 10.5.* OSX. I have also installed the latest Firmware and Drivers on the Samsung Printer and the USB Hub.
Is there a different way to setup the print queue that you think may help? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I spent 5 hours on this yesterday and it still isn’t working
    Thanks
    M

    Further info:
    - it appears that the firmware version is 5.7 on this AirPort Extreme
    - when I plug in my other printer (Samsung ML-1710), it appears in the list of USB printers in AirPort Utility.
    - unfortunately, the ML-1710 is no longer supported in Snow Leopard
    - under Printer Setup, Driver, I selected Generic PCL Laser Printer for the ML-1710 as a test - the print queue opened, my printer did its "about to print sound", the print queue told me the job had printed, but nothing came out (yes there was paper )
    - found the entry below (from Neptune78 on http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10067336&#10067336) re. driver for ML-1710, followed steps successfully until the final printing part when the printer stalls and pauses @ 10% printing stage
    Any help appreciated

+I got my ML-1710 working today on Snow Leopard. Here's what I did:+
+1. Go to System Preferences -> Print & Fax -> delete printer from the list.+
    +2. Reinstall the drivers found here: http://www.samsung.com/au/support/download/supportDownDetail.do?group=printermul tifunctionfax&type=printermultifunctionfax&subtype=monolaserprinter&modelnm=ML-1710&disp_nm=ML-1710&language=&cate_type=all&mType=DR&dType=D&vType=&cttID =196410&prd_ia_cd=06010400&modelcd=&menu=download&menu2=detail+
+3. Return to System Preferences -> Print & Fax and add the ML-1710 back to the list of printers. In the "Print Using" dropdown, you should be able to select "Samsung ML-1710" (if not automatically selected).+
    +4. Click "Add"+
+You should now be good to go.+

  • Belkin USB wireless adaptor drivers

Does anyone know where I can get a driver for the belkin usb wireless adaptor? The one listed on their website only works with OSX 10.3 and not 10.4 installed on this machine? do apple provide any third party drivers for this problem? The machine is out of its applecare period so I can't ask apple themselves.
    Thanks
    Jon

If Belkin doesn't have a driver compatible with 10.4 you're out of luck. Apple does not provide drivers for third party hardware.
