Belkin Wireless Range Extender (F5D7132)?

I've just bought a Belkin Wireless G Universal Range Extender (model: F5D7132) and am trying to get it to extend the range of our D-Link wireless network.
According to Belkin's installation guide, I simply need to place the unit next to my current wireless modem/router, hold down an 'Auto Connect Button' for 10 seconds, and the Belkin unit will then automatically extend the range of the D-Link.
Sadly, this hasn't happened, and Belkin's help pages are of zero use.
Does anybody have this unit? If so, are you able to point me in the correct direction to connect the unit to wirelessly extend my D-Link unit?

Hello, thanks BDAcqua, it is encouraging to hear from you. I will try to clarify the problem I am having. It is fairly simple to describe: Whenever I place my laptop within range of our Access Point(repeater), my Internet connection fails, server fails, etc., everything fails concerning Internet access, even though my Airport is showing full reception of the wireless signal. The wireless signal is coming through loud and clear, I am just unable to use it for anything whatsoever. Only if I remove my laptop from the range of the AP and place myself close to the 'main' wireless router am I able to go online(wirelessly). I can go online with Airport successfully anywhere I get reception except with the new AP we have set up here. The new AP at present works fine only with Windows OS.
I tried what you suggest in your reply and entered the two DNS server numbers, but no change yet.
I can still just get online if I stay very close to our primary router's signal. Any idea what I could try next? I did connect to Apple at router, but not at the AP.
Does this define the problem I'm having more clearly?
Thanks, jb

If using bridge WUMC710, could it play the role as a wireless range extender for my wireless devices and at same time also as bridge to connect wired devices such as internet ready TV with router?

    Hi,
The WUMC710 is only designed as a wireless bridge. There's no option to set it up as a repeater - bridge. Even DD-WRT don't have it on their compatible hardware list - only WAP54G. You might be interested on this DD-WRT Wiki article: Linking Routers: Repeater Bridge.

  • How do I connect my new Iphone 5 to my Belkin wifi range extender?

I have upgraded to the Iphone 5 and now can not connect to my Belkin wifi range extender. When I go into wifi in the settings it is bringing it up, but when you click on it it does not give you the option to just put in the password. When you go into the details there is no IP address in there! It is connecting to the router downstairs, but this extender was to give me coverage in upstairs. What to do?!

You need OS X 10.6. Make sure your computer meets the requirements and get it here fir $19.99

  • Express or Extreme better wireless range extender?

I own the latest Airport Extreme as my base station.  I also own a prior, 5th generation Extreme 802.11n, and a prior generation Airport Express 802.11n (the one that plugs directly into the wall).  Two questions:
-- Which of these two would be a more effective wireless range extender for my base station?
-- Would there be any disadvantage (eg diluting the signal) to using them both, in different locations in my house?
    Thanks.

-- Which of these two would be a more effective wireless range extender for my base station?
The AirPort Extreme has a better antenna arrangement, so it would normally work better.
-- Would there be any disadvantage (eg diluting the signal) to using them both, in different locations in my house?
The network slows down a bit with each wireless device, but the effect of having greater wireless coverage will probably disguise that.
Most users would rather have better wireless range, even if they must give up a bit of speed.

  • Porblem with WGXB102 (wireless range extender) and imac

Everytime my imac sleeps it can't access the internet using the WGXB102, however I can switch directly to the router with my old setup and the internet works. The only way I get the extender to work is to reset the main netgear router. How can I get the extender to work after the computer goes to sleep?

Yes there are some issues with the Wireless Range Extender version 3.0 ...related to IP Conflict ... but they can be resolved by upgrading the firmware of the Range Extender .....
You can use Range Extedner version 2.0 & 3.0 ....

  • Wireless range extender

I am connecting wirelessly using a range extender and am finding media streaming a problem. When I connect direct to the router everything is fine, but media is slow and buffers going through the range extender. I can't find a problem, tried various different channels but no joy. My download speed is the same though the extender too.

  • Wireless range extender or signal booster for Mac OS 10.9 ?

Hi, I have a new iMac 21.5 in, running OS 10.9.5. I have tons of storage capacity, 8 GB memory, and its very fast.
    I have two questions:
1.the little one is, why does this message pop up sometimes on this site:
" ! You are not allowed to create or update this content." ? When that happens, I see no explanation to help me fix the problem!
    2. The bigger question I have is:
can anyone suggest a device I can purchase that would strengthen my land's wireless signal so i have decent internet?
I am renting one of 13 cottages on a small parcel of land, and mine is the last in a string of renters all sharing the same wireless signal! So I get the last dregs after everyone else's gaming, streaming, etc etc.
It would need to have a working driver for Mac OS 10.9 available for it, as I am currently running 10.9.5, and would like to continue upgrading the OS software whenever it comes available.
I know hardly anything about how all that internet config stuff works, and I don't even know exactly what i should be looking for— extender? booster? adapter? etc….
But I need something soon, as right now my hands are tied, and I can only do anything at all on my old windows PC!
    Thanks for any advice!!

Extending a bad signal will give you a bad signal.
If the cottages share electrical power you could try powerline adaptors. Otherwise run cables.

  • Time Capsule Wireless Range Extended with AirPort Express

I recently was able to (finally) get my Time Capsule working with my previous 2WIRE modem/router (DSL through ATT). This took hours, but it was worth it! Time Capsule is now my primary router with it "bridged" with the 2WIRE device which is now only a modem. Back up is working fine with our three Apple laptops. However, the wireless signal is weaker than when it was set up with the 2WIRE alone. Our signal strength upstairs was weak making internet connection VERY slow and frustrating. I got an AirPort Express to see if I could use it to boost/extend the wireless signal from the Time Capsule unit. Set up was simple, and it is working great! I have it plugged into a wall outlet between the Time Capsule and the stairs leading upstairs. The wireless signal is now "full" everywhere in the house!

Wired Ethernet from the TC to the AirPort Extreme will result in much better performance.  It sounds as if you are not configuring the AirPort Extreme correctly.
Please try the following steps carefully:
Unplug the Ethernet cable from the AirPort Exteme if it is not already unplugged. With the AirPort Extreme powered on, hold in the reset button on the Extreme for 10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the Extreme to restart
Connect the Ethernet cable to the WAN "O" port on the Extreme.
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear. Just below that, click on AirPort Extreme.
The example below displays an AirPort Express. You will see AirPort Extreme.
AirPort Setup will open up automatically and take a minute to analyze the network, then announce that the Extreme will be configured to extend the Time Capsule network.
Enter a device name that you want to use for the Exterme and click Next
Wait a minute while AirPort Setup configures everything for you. When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.
That's it.  Pretty simple.  Things should be working fine now.

  • Dlink Wireless Range Extender with Time Capsule Setup

Looking to setup a D-Link DAP-1320 on my time capsule to extend my wifi network. The D-link instructions are pretty basic, only two choices. WPS Setup, which the Time capsule does not have. And Web browser setup by going to dlinkap.local which only times out and does not load.
    Any sugestions? thanks

Nope this cannot work.. Apple to Apple .. Dlink is banana.. Apples don't talk to bananas.
If the DAP-1320 has a WAP mode.. then plug it by ethernet into the TC and use like that. Not going to work any other way.

  • Extend wireless range with Airport?

I want to extend the range of my ATT 2wire wireless.  It looks like Airport Express only works with an already in place Airport network.  Would Airport extreme work?  What other options are available?

Unfortunately, none of the AirPorts can be used to extend the wireless range of the 2Wire gateway ... at least not by a wireless connection between the two. If having a wired connection is not desireable or even feasible, then you have a few other options: 1) Check to see if 2Wire offers a wireless range extender, or 2) Employ two AirPorts: one connected directly to the existing 2Wire by Ethernet, and the second configured to extend the wireless range of the first.

  • Extending Wireless Range With 2 Different Brand Routers

I am currently using a D-Link WBR2310 wireless router.  I would like to extend the range of the wi-fi signal as my father wishes to use his laptop in the garage.  Additionally, I have both a Linksys WRT150N and Linksys WRT160N V2.  Can I use either one of these Linksys routers as a repeater or extend the range in any way?  In case this idea did not work out, I was also looking at the D-Link Wireless Range Extender (DAP-1320) for $45.00.  This is much easier but I was hoping to do it on the cheap.  Any thoughts or ideas?

What about installing DD-WRT which to my understanding can make the router a repeater among many other features.  Anyone have any experience with this?

  • WRE54G Range extender not recognized on laptop running Vista

I have just set up a home wireless network using the WRT54GL and the WRE54G range extender. The main computer (WindowsXP) is wired and a desktop (also XP) is getting 100% signal through the WRE54G. A third computer (laptop running on Vista) works fine on wireless running off WRT54GL but is not recognizing the range extender and getting insufficient signal in other parts of the house including the room where the 2nd desktop is getting 100%. The WRE54G is not showing up on the network map of the laptop. Can anyone help me trouble shoot? I need step by step instructions - I don't know a lot of the internet/network lingo but am pretty computer literate. Thanks

If one computer is already working fine with the wireless range extender .... you need to check the wireless settings on the vista Laptop ....
Make sure that the adapter is workiong fine ....
Also try uninstalling & reinstalling the wireless adapter .....

  • Using a Range Extender with WLC & LWAP

    Hi,
is it possible to use a Wireless range extender with a WLAN installation of LWAPs & WLC?
Is there a security setting in the WLC that prevents multiple clients connecting through the range extender?
    Any advise would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Chris

    No.
Range extenders are horrible devices that kill your bandwitdh, increase the collision rate and would totally kill the radio management algorithm. For this reason they are not supported and you should not even look into them. They were more popular when you had very few IOS APs and the speed rates were low. I'm not sure that 11n range extenders actually exist.
Anyway, if you want to extend the range, you could look into bridging APs or mesh APs (AP not connected via wire, uses 5ghz band for backhaul transport to root AP and 2ghz to server clients).

  • 'RE1000' range extender - duplicate SSID behavior? Any feedback would be appreciated!

I am using a Cisco 802.11n wireless E4200 router (almost exclusively on 2.4 GHz).
I just bought a Cisco 802.11n (supports only 2.4 GHz) RE1000 wireless range extender last night (so the below is based on limited testing and usage so far).
    1. The good news is that the signal strength on the other side of the house same floor and on the other side of the house one floor down, when using the RE1000 range extender, are now great (4 - 5 bars of signal strength in the Windows 7 wireless network GUI) throughout the house even wit the router in one corner room.
(Quite frankly given my house size and smallnetbuilder's test results I am surprised the signal strength was not higher to begin with since I am using a Rosewill RNX-N2X wireless USB adapter with two external antennae that outperforms all my other USB wireless N adapters by a long shot).
    2. The bad news (aside from needing to try several times initially just to get Cisco Connect * to find the extender,
is that I now see TWO (duplicate in terms of name only) SSID's in my Rosewill wireless utility (that I was only using temporarily to check signal strength in dbM). Windows only shows one available network entry with that specific SSID!
Luckily I had the Rosewill utility running, since the SSID (let's refer to it as 'HomeSSID1') was showing a weak signal under the instance of it that I was connected to. If I had not  seen the duplicate instance which was pointing to the extender instance of my wireless network (also listed as HomeSSID1 with the same password) which had a MUCH higher signal strength in a remote room, I would have returned it.
Now here is why this may be 'bad', at least until I get some answers on the following:
    3. For devices (e.g... Blu-Ray players with built-in Wifi (802.11n) adapters where I don't have the luxury of running the Rosewill client utility (which allows me to switch to the stronger of the two 'duplicate' SSID's), I may only see ONE instance of the SSID (like ion Windows) to connect to.
This may therefore not allow me to switch to the higher signal version / instance of the SSID (depending on which one it picks, which leads me to my 2nd question below).
    4. For various wifi-equipped various devices (Blu-Ray players and laptops) in my house, which version of the SSID will they connect to (if they see only one)??? Will they be 'smart' enough to select the instance of my SSID with the higher signal strength.
If some of these devices do see both instances of my SSID (the router one and the extender one), and I select the higher signal strength one, which one will it pick next time I turn that device back on and it reconnects to one of my two matching (dupe name) wireless network SSID's upon startup...
    5. The other strange thing is that I get prompted for the WPA2 AES passphrase in Windows EACH time when I reconnect after having switched between the two duplicate-but-separately listed SSID's (with differing signal strengths), even though I have it configured that way.
While windows does not show both SSID's in the list of 'available network' when clicking on the taskbar icon, it does appear to have both in control panel under wireless network connections (although one of those could be an old entry or even an old 5 GHz entry before I renamed my 5 GHz SSID differently to avoid confusion).
    * (Cisco Connect software is the only way to configure the RE1000 initially at least - i.e.. until you find the assigned IP address for the extender, after which you will be able to use the web browser interface for configuration).
Any answers and insights would be appreciated!
PS: I placed the extender not too far the center of the second floor, as opposed to placing it on the opposite side of the house from the router. This was to ensure the signal being repeated had a strong enough source to begin with and also to spread the coverage nicely to the rooms where it was weak when I only had the E4200 broadcasting.

I can only remove them in Windows. That won't help though since my Blu-Ray player is seeing two directly from the router (since Windows has no bearing on what the Blu-Ray player can see). I checked windows wireless networks that I have configured (i.e. not the 'available networks' screen but, under 'amanage wireless network' in the network and sharng center, which shows the networks actually configured on my laptop) and I only see two in all (one is the 2.4 GHz one and one the old 5 Ghz one before I renamed it). I will definitely update this once I play around with things a bit. - need to hook up b2 other blu-ray players (same model but not unpacked yet) in two remote spots where I know the RE1000 hazs the better signal) and see what happens. I hope I can either1) (since the Blu-Ray players don't move) get the players configured to ONLY (always) connect to either the router or the extender depending on their location (ad never switch between the two).or2) IF, by (wifi standards) design, the Blu-Ray players will automatically connect to a given version of the SSID and not the one I selected when I first selected a network on the player's list: Then I hope it will be  based on the strongest signal and hopefully not random or tbe first instance of the duplicate SSID that it "sees") so that at least they automatically connect to whichever has the best signal strength and not switch back and forth between the router and extender versions of the SSID. For the laptop, I will just switch between the extedner SSID and the router SSID depending where I am (and hope that it stays connected to that same one the whole time until I manually disconnect and connect to the other version of the SSID). I would think someone knows how this is supposed to work.Given that the player only asks for the SSID (and not the MAC address) when the user is prompted to set up the wifi connection, there are three possible ways this works:1) it always connects to the same instance I first defined (this would imply the player somehow uses the MAC address or other identifying feature that allows it to distinguish between the 'duplicate'; SSID's).  2) it connects to the stronger of the tow signals each time it starts up 3) it connects to the first of thw tow SSID instances that  it "sees".Does anyone know if it is 1,2 or 3 (or does it depend on the wireless client, meaning a Blu-Ray player may use one option (of the above 3) and a Windows PC uses a different method to select to which instance of the SSID it will connect at any given time.I would love to hear what other extender users have experienced in regard to the above (in bold).

  • Range Extender for secureW2 authentication

    Hi,
I intend to buy a wireless range extender
but would need a little help about choosing right model.
The question is also whether Linksys even have a model that would fit my needs.
    So the situation is next:
At home I have two PCs that I need to connect to eduroam net (www.eduroam.org).
I do not know whether you heard about it; Eduroam (education roaming) is the secure,
world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community.
But the problem is that I because of physical barriers and distance can't establish
a connection so I need a range extender.
But the problem is that eduroam uses securew2 (www.securew2.com) authentication protocol and I didn't yet saw
range extender that supports that protocol.
So, my question would be, does Linksys have range extender model that supports my request?
Or is that any extender can support this, only I don't know how to tune that haha?

Well that's the problem. I didn't yet found Extender that supports it.
But it has to be something about setuping coz with wireless adapter it's so easy.
    EDIT:
Ok guys, I got  respons from eduroam team and they said that this network doesn't support using extenders coz they don't provide the same level of a protected communication signal as theire network equipment does.
    So, no help for me.
    But tnx guys anyway.
