Bell Sound, after Screen Capture

When I do a screen capture (Shift/Cmd/3 or 4), in addition to the camera shutter sound, about 3 seconds later, i now hear a bell.
I've had the MacBook for 3+ years, and I believe this is something recent.
After the keystrokes, I get the shutter sound, about 1 second later, the icon appears, and about 2 seconds after that, the bell.
This is on both my MacBook13, and MacBook Pro (10.6.8)
Can I eliminate the bell sound, and keep just the shutter sound ?

this is really a serious issue!
After upgrading to 10.6.6, I have found a bug with the Screen capture feature.
After several screen shots (CmdShift4) OSX is hanging. You can move the mouse, but everything else is frozen.
I've tested it prior to the upgrade with 10.6.5 -> no problem
I've tested it with 10.6.6 on 2 different Macbook Pros (different models) and both have the same issue with 10.6.6
Please apple, fix this bug!!

I don't think there is a bug for Apple to fix, as far as I can tell. I've taken plenty of screenshots using cmd-shift-4 since the update (I actually did a number just a few days ago), and my system is working just fine, as always. I also haven't heard any other reports of this kind of problem. So, the question is, what's going wrong with your systems?
Since it's happening on two different machines, my inclination would be to blame third-party software you've got installed. Try [starting up in Safe Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455]... does the problem still happen then? Safe mode disables third-party software that may be loading at startup/login, so if the problem goes away in safe mode, then it's just a matter of figuring out what software is causing the problem.
Also, are you using any other third-party hardware, especially input devices, with both MacBooks when you're taking the screen shots? If so, try disconnecting all of it and use just the built-in keyboard and trackpad. If the problem goes away then, it's probably a hardware incompatibility.

Problem recording sound during screen capture

Hi
I'm having a problem when recording screen captures in Windows XP SP3 in Boot Camp.
There is almost no sound. There is a very low sound level being picked up from the microphone.
The screen capture software I'm using is Capture Solution by SProsoft. I get the same result when using Windows Media Encoder, so I don't think it is a problem with the capturing program.
There is no problem with Windows XP making the sounds as I use it. It is just that I cannot record those sounds.

Hi ya I solved it..... I brought it back to the shop I got my phone in and they gave me a brand new one.
I had it for 11 months when I returned it and it was still covered by warranty hope this helps :)

MBP freezes after Screen Capture (Cmd+Shift+4)

When I try to do a screen capture, my MBP is freezing (rotating wheel) after the 2nd or 3rd screen capture. This is new after I upgraded to 10.6.6

Terminal Audible Bell Sounds Like Screen Shot

This weirdness began several weeks ago. The alert sound in Terminal sounds like the camera snapshot when you take a screen shot. I logged into another account and the Terminal sound is normal so I'm guessing it has to be something in my home directory. I trashed the prefs, all the cache files, and my bash profile. That didn't work. Any ideas?

You solved it! All of the other system sounds were working normally including the system alert sounds. But, upon your suggestion, I opened the sound prefpane in the system prefs and re-selected the current alert sound. Terminal immediately began using that sound.
I have no idea how it got screwed up in the first place or exactly what was wrong with it, but it works fine now. Thank you!!!

Trying to increase the sound of recorded screen captures

Hi. I'm making screen capture movies with Snapz PRo 2 and they are being saved as QT movies on my desktop. When I open them in QT and try to increase the sound volume, the setting don't stick if I try to raise the volume over 0db. I read somewhere that QT won't let you save volume over 0db, is that true?
If so, does anyone know how I can increase the gain on the movies without having to load them into Final Cut or iMovie? Is there some program that will let me just edit the sound of a QT movie?

Hey, thanks for the tips. But... I don't think I'm making myself clear here.
I don't want to spend ANY time in post with these tutorial screencasts that I'm making. If I did, I'd just whip out my Sennheiser and my mixer and take the whole shebang into FCP and cut it and sweeten audio there.
What I'm doing is using Snapz to capture screen actions that I'm recording as tutorials for my students. I'm using either a Blue Snowball USB mic or my Logitech 250 USB headset with mic to record my voice as I demo apps on the Mac. Snapz is using the Apple animation codec to make the movies. But, what Snapz is not doing and cannot do is help me boost the audio a bit. If it did, then I'd have a finished movie right there. As it is, I have to wait a long time for Snapz to finalize the flick. What I don't want to do is load the film up in FCP (takes time) and then export it (also takes time) and be done. I want to package these things up fast. All I need to do is boost the audio a little and everything would be great. If Quicktime Pro allowed me to do that, that would be great because it would not have to re-encode the movie again.
Maybe there is no way to do what I'm asking without doing it in FCP. If that's the case then that's what I'll do.
THe whole point of this is that I want to keep it as simple and as past as possible because I am not making any money doing this (but I am teaching for money). I offer it to my students as a value added addition to their classes.

Help ! Screen Capture sound every 30 seconds

Hi all I need help! Last week in the middle of my work day nothing special, the system started playing the camera shutter / screen capture. I started timing between the shutter, every 30 seconds, very annoying - the camera shutter sound - same as the shift-4 screen capture sound and same as the sound that occurs when you press the back button in terminal. I have a 15 inch mac book pro. 2009 model.
I wondered whether someone had installed a hidden shell script or apple script program and is capturing my screen and maybe sending it over the net.
I have checked activity monitor and did not notice any programs running like "screencapture" or anything else like that. I have also turned hidden files visable on, but i can't find any screen capture directory or files: .jpg, .pdf, .png files I should be seeing lots of them for every 30 seconds per capture. Back to terminal here is my dump from ps ax command:

Make sure the sound is coming from your speakers and not from your hard drive, by muting the speakers. If the sound continues, it may be your hard drive's heads parking (which shouldn't happen every 30 seconds either, but that's a very different problem). If it doesn't continue and is therefore exactly what you think it is, I'm as puzzled as you are.

I have also installed little snitch, nothing strange seems to be going out by way of connections. Only dropbox, i have deleted that but the noise still keeps going. I will have to reinstall again....any ideas pls.

Update, I took the webcam home over the weekend and tried on my home network and the outcome was the same video fine - audio delayed, is this a Skype for desktop issue?

Screen capture shutter sound missing

So this is a minor issue, but now I'm just curious as to how it disappeared and how to get it back. I actually didn't even know sound existed until I plugged my MacBook into a set of external speakers. When I screen captured I heard the shutter sound for the first time in a year of owning it.
However, unplugged, zero screen cap sound.
Any ideas?

You need to turn the volume up on the MacBook when external speakers aren't connected. Give it a try. I know what you mean. It's much louder with external speakers connected.
Should be an audio icon top right in your Desktop. Click there and push the slider to the top. If there isn't an audio icon available, go to System Preferences/Sound. Click the Output tab. Make sure;
"Show volume in menu bar" is selected.

Screen Capture not working after upgrade to Yosemite

I have Yosemite OS X 10.10.1 and since my upgrade from Mavericks I have not been able to perform any sort of screen capture. I have tried Command+Shift+4 and Command+Shift+3 and neither of those work. There is no camera shutter noise made and no files saved to desktop or elsewhere when I try these commands. I could use the commands just fine on Mavericks to capture the screen. Anyone have any help on this?

Do you have Dropbox installed? If so, go to the menu bar, select it, hit the gear at the bottom right, and then Preferences/Import/Screenshots - make sure the box isn't checked.
You can also make sure they are set to go to your Desktop.

Unable to edit default permission for Screen capturing of BB 8800 curve after downgrade OS to 4.3

i have downgrade my BB 8800 device OS to 4.3 , and its OS version is v4.3.1.27 (Platform 2.7.0.30) Cryptographic kernel v3.8.5.30 , So exact problem is like that now i am unable to edit the default permission for Screen Capturing properties of device, it shown the only option "Deny" and dont allow to me change it . For that i go to - Option->Security Options->Application Permissions->option button->Edit Default permissions->Interaction->Screen Capturing and it show only option "Deny" - So please suggest a solution

There is no OS 4.3 for the 8800 model. So, what model BlackBerry do you have, found at Options > About?
What is your Operating System loaded to your device? Look at Options > About, third line down beginning with a "v.5.0.x.xxx", What is yours?

Screen Capture Blurry After Transcode

This is probably a dumb question because I am not usually the one working with video, but I really need help! I am doing a demonstration on my computer and I need to make it into a DVD. I used Windows Media Encoder 3 to capture my screen and then save it as a wmv. This file looks fine. I edited the video in Premier CS4 and it still looks fine. But when I try making the Premier file into a DVD using Encore, it makes the quality look horrible. Pictures become really pixelated, and text just becomes big blobs. I tried to transcode using the highest setting, but this did not help. Is there something else I can do? Thanks for any help!

First, the screen capture to WMV will heavily compress the footage. WMV is a streaming media, delivery-only format, and is not meant to be edited - strike one. Now, PrPro, while it will Import WMV, will have to basically convert it to DV-AVI to allow for Frame-level editing. DV-AVI conversion, even at an internal basis, does a little bit of compression. Though nothing like the quality hit just going to WMV, there is a tiny hit there is some - strike 2 (well, probably really strike 1.25...). Then, you need to get to MPEG-2 for the DVD. That is another heavily compressed format. When starting with a DV-AVI, it does a nice job. When you start with a WMV, to though the process of converting it back to I-frame footage to edit, and then compress the heck out of it again - strike 3. This does not make THAT much difference whether you do the MPEG-2 conversion (Transcoding) in Encore, or from PrPro. The key word is "much." You might want to experiment with using a standalone encoder to create your MPEG-2, rather than either Encore, or PrPro. Some are better. The ones used by Hollywood with 10-pass encoding run into the tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars, and are run by experts, who do nothing else all day, 5 days per week. Besides going to a stand-alone encoder, you will need to bit-budget to find out how much material vs the bit-rate, will fit your disc.
The better workflow would be to NOT use WMV, but instead an I-frame format/CODEC in the first place. DV-AVI (though slightly compressed) would be an ideal choice. Then, the ultimate quality to MPEG-2 would be to Export from PrPro is something like the Lagarith Lossless CODEC, and use a stand-alone encoder and bit-budgeting to get the ultimate 100% DVD-compliant MPEG-2. That would be Imported into Encore, and if not detected automatically should be set to Do Not Transcode.
Hope that this explains where the quality is going, and provides a workflow that would cut the losses.

Screen capture in ProRes422 in timeline shifts after render?

I'm using Final Cut Pro 7 and I need to capture the screen animations from a PowerPoint presentation. I use iShow U HD to capture the screens at 1920x1080 ProRes. Then I bring that clip into a 1920x1080 ProRes sequence where it doesn't need rendering. I need to squeeze the screen capture video into a window, so I resize it in the motion tab and apply some crop too. Now things need rendered, which is fine. The timing of all of the clips is perfect when it is unrendered. When I render the sequence, the timing is off. It slips the timing of the clips by a bit for each clip. Unrendered fine, rendered not fine. I matched the sequence to the video so it would be the same, so it can't be a frame rate problem. Everything is prores so that should be ok. Has anyone heard of this before? Do you have any suggestions?

Wish I had an insight, but I don't.
My suggestion is to re-post in the FCS discussion forum…or perhaps Creative Cow…someone may have encountered this with iShow U and can offer advice from first hand experience. This forum doesn't get as much traffic as the others.
