Sorry for asking the obvious but are you a Bell Sympatico customer? I think, but may be wrong, that this usage meter only works for Bell Sympatico customers. Nice to eliminate the obvious first before continuing with troubleshooting.

Where can I find the download for the current Internet Usage Meter? My Ap opens and indicates there is an update but always fails on install

Me too. It's pretty sad that I can't search for data usage meter or Xfinity usage meter and get a proper response.Comcast's site says "Did you mean:data usage center?" or "Did you mean Xfinity usage meter?" No, I meant data usage meter.  It shouldn't be that difficult to find it on an internet companies website. This is the second time within the past 2 months that I have had a problem with the usage meter update.

  • Delete "Internet Usage Meter" app.

On starting Yosemite I get a message "Internet Usage Meter" did not load properly.  Delete and reload.  I don't know how to delete it.

This is not true.  I live in an area that is (was) primarily serviced by AT&T DSL.  They have just recently provided U-Verse service, but at the same speeds as DSL (1.5, 3 and 6Mbps).  From what my neighbors have been saying, though, is that the service is much less reliable and they are constantly having problems with the new U-Verse.  I'm going to keep DSL until they either upgrade U-Verse speeds or force me to change from DSL.  In any case, I will continue to purchase the service from a 3rd party like Extreme DSL which offers the service much cheaper and with no data caps.If you like your dsl, and you can find an att reseller service in your area, and esspecially with no data limits, that is the ideal way to go. I am starting to see posts from folks that still have dsl in areas u-verse expanded into, so, I dunno. U-verse is still dsl connections, just using differant (and presumabbly faster) protocalls. They can and do, on occasion, allow adsl connects if they just can't get a signal strong enough to support the vdsl, vslam, vrad, or whatever else they use for u-verse, but they are the rare exception, not the norm. Or, maybe they are. In any case, good luck.I just know, ATT plans to phase out most of their legacy dsl service by 2020. all new service is planned for u-verse. beyond that,  not a clue.

  • Internet usage meter

In July this year I over ran my broadband usage.  In august I used the usage meter to make sure I didn't go over again.  On August 31st I was still not over.  On September 1st I started using broadband again, but on September 9th I received message to say I was over again?  Is this fair?

    Patty-L wrote:
Hi there  No, what I am saying is that you cannot display usage until you have used it, so Augusts usage will appear until
11.59pm on 1st Sept then so on, the meter  always shows the previous  days use.
In my previous post I should have said up to 11.59pm not 12 Midnight but what's a minute between friends
I am never sure whether midnight is say for instance Sunday or Monday.
    Patty-L
    Hi Patty.
August stats (or indeed any end of month stats) will appear on the following day - i.e. 1st of the month - typically between 7am and 10am, and as you say will be displayed that day - but probably until 7a-10am on 2nd of the month when data for 1st of the month will show.
As for midnight, that actually applies to the previous day. But an instantaneous transfer of days occurs and suddenly it's the next day

  • Is bell making a mistake about my internet usage?

I checked my sympatico internet usage on the web.
It said we had dowloaded 6.22 GB, and we had gone over our 2GB limit.
The charge is 7.50 per additional GB, to a 30$ max. We reached the 30$ max.
    One problem:
Neither dad or I can recall downloading that much. I don't think I could have done half of it, and he hasn't used his home computer much.
A few days after this billing period started, I checked the usage. It was about 3GB. With a 1 megabit per second connection, this would have been hard to do, an I hadn't downloaded anything big.
We don't use wireless, except my desktop computer can be used as a wireless router, but it has a password and hasn't been on enough for someone to be stealing our usage through wireless.
Is there a way to check the total internet usage arch has used this past month?
    Is bell screwing me over?

the file /sys/class/net/eth0/statistics/rx_bytes contains how many bytes I've downloaded since I've booted linux. It might be the same on your system if you use the eth0 interface.
If your computer is always on, you could take the difference between end-of-billing-period bytes and beginning-of-billing-period to find how many bytes you downloaded in that month.
If you shut down your computer often, you could write yourself a shutdown script that saves the amount of bytes to some file, e.g.
    #!/bin/sh
    cp /sys/class/net/eth0/statistics/rx_bytes ~/internet_usage/$(date +%Y%m%d%H%M)
    poweroff

  • Internet usage amount

According to your internet usage meter, my usage has been very high.  This happens even when the computer is turned off.  What else can be using my internet?

I've seen people walk away from streaming devices like you tube, netflix and similar and it keeps streaming with the TV off and keeps using data.  Mobile devices registered to your account can use data when they are out and about town connecting to the xfinitywifi hotspots.   Unplug the modem / gateway for 24 hours and see if it keeps going up.

  • Internet Usage Gone Amok!

Hi all (and Tesserax if you're online, you know the history of my problem!). I am posting this here because I can't find another forum which seems appropriate.
Short version: for two weeks we've been aware that our internet usage has been exceeding our use. We have two iMacs networked in a small office, both are running Snow Leopard.
We have tried eliminating what we thought the issue was - namely that someone had hijacked our wireless somehow.  So: we installed a new D-Link router (which is WPA encrypted AND then the entire wireless radio disabled), and we have a new cable modem from our ISP, along with a new virus program (Intego Virus Barrier X6). We scanned both computers and Intego found one virus (a file called 1024.dmg which had been on one of our computer's hard drives since 2008!) and one attempted port scan, which was blocked. Other than that, there has been no suspicious activity reported.
I called an Intego technician who assured me that their software would catch anything out of the ordinary and so therefore it can't be anything on our computers. The Intego guy said that only a trojan would be capable of doing something like this, but again, VirusBarrier would catch that. Also Interesting to note: it's the downloads that are extraordinary, while the uploads are consistent with our day to day business.
Even with all of these things up and running, we're still experiencing spikes in our internet use that has us and our ISP puzzled. Two days in the past month we weren't even in the office at all and there were 6 gigabyte spikes on record!  However, our computers were on, but in deep sleep mode.  Something fishy...could someone be hacking in even with our computers in sleep mode????
My ISP mentioned that they have a client who's son let their bit torrent open and someone was downloading off of their internet access, running up the father's bill to $900. From what I understand, bit torrent is a P2P protocol. We don't do ANY file sharing that isn't between the two computers on our LAN.
is there any way that someone can get in that way?  On my computer, I have file sharing, printer sharing and scanner sharing enabled.
Oh - and we thought that maybe our ISP's usage tracking was off, so for three days we unplugged our ethernet cable to test. Then we checked the usage for those three days and there was nothing.  So something is definitely happening on our end, but we're beside ourselves trying to figure this out! I am wondering if anyone can assit me here.  Tesserax has been very kind in offering suggestions - if you have any more, I'd appreciate it!
    thanks
    B.

    Hi Tesserax.
Already did it: the numbers are a combined total from both computers.
Further to me posting that last note, I did some online research and found scores of complaints on different internet forums commenting on the exact same problem I've had AND with the same ISP.  There is a general consensus that their internet meter is faulty.
AND: I found articles where Bell has actually admitted to having faulty metering.  So this is nothing new.  What irks me is that the earliest post I found is from 2009 and no one at my ISP even mentioned that this could be the issue!  Nor does it seem that they're in any hurry to rectify the problem.
In some cases, their numbers are astronomical - 56gb per day even!
At least it's not on my end and that we don't have a hacker, which was my real concern.
But worth posting in case others come across the same issue and think, like me, that someone is stealing their wireless.
Anyway, thanks again for all your help.
    B.

  • Where has the usage meter gone?

    Hi all,
I usually check on how much of my broadband allowance I have used on a daily basis.  However when I have logged in today, the option to do so has vanished.
Would some kind soul please explain what has happened?
    Many thanks

    Go figure!!
    Hi.
    Welcome to the forums.
My shortcuts has two different links to the usage meter - options 14d & 14e. At least one of them should work.

  • Usage meter stuck?

    Hi all,
Any one else have stuck usage meter? Mine has not been updated since the 18th.  Makes it a little hard to track my usage without it.
Just wondering if it just me as I have not seen any posts about it being stuck yet.
    Thanks.

I tried both Firefox and Internet explorer, cleared the cache from both first too and it still seems stuck.
Possibly being updated or in a state of maintenance but would be nice for a note on the web page telling us so. BT are quick to say that the usage meter is the law when it comes to charging for over use but not so fast when there is an error to let us know its being worked on.

  • "hybrid" color found in iTunes's "Devices - iPod" usage meter

    Hi there,
I don't believe this is a quirk with iTunes, but it still eludes me nonetheless. I noticed it this morning for the first time when disconnecting my iPod.
Granted, we have that handy color-coded usage meter showing how much storage space we have left on the iPod (click on the iPod icon under the Devices tab in the sidebar if you are unsure what I'm referencing), along with the type of media occupying the used space and each having its own unique color: blue for music, yellow for photos, purple for video, orange for the mysterious "other", etc.
This morning, I noticed for the first time that I have a strange indigo-colored section, spliced somewhere between where the music (blue) and video (purple) are indicated.
The only thing I could possibly equate this to was space allocated for "Music Videos" (the obvious hybrid between Music and Video).
I couldn't come up with any effective search results on the board - I was curious if some Level 3+'s noticed this, and could shed some light on what indigo could indicate.
(FYI - I would love to have provided a screenshot, but I am at work at the moment)
    Just curious - thanks!

    thats what we're talking about.
    Exactly.
Never did get a solid answer on this one, but judging from the fact that others out there see this indigo in the iPod spectrum, I'm going to say that it is from Music Videos.
I'm going to leave this one as unanswered until I'm daring enough (or bored enough, depending upon your point of view...) to delete the Music Videos from my iPod and see if the color changes.

  • Doing a 30 minute video created 15 Gigabyte of Internet usage. Why? And how can I stop this!

Created a small, simple 30 minute video. Burned a few CDs. Downloaded one (1) sound track (a few MB). Internet usage soared to an unbelievable 15 GB!
All data, files, etc on my PC, yet Premiere Elements used the Internet constantly, especially when burning CDs.
Why? There was nothing to upload or download (except 1 sound track). This maxed my Internet allowance, and has cost me a lot of cash for extra capacity.
How can I stop this data gluttony.
Or do I have to junk a new, expensive program? (Premiere Elements 13.

    Contacted support.
They say that this is 'impossible'!!!
Went for Option 2. Accept one-time waste of Internet capacity. Write it off to painful experience. Junked Premiere Elements 13.
    Problem solved.

  • Unable to view my Internet Usage

Hi, I am unable to see my internet usage from last one month. I called customer heldesk 5 times. Every time they gave me one new ref# but still no result. Any one can suggest that where I can escalate this issue?

    SINHA7766,
I apologize for the delayed response. @BruceW has given you the correct websites to check your usage for the month. I have also sent you a private message to further assist you.
You can click on my name (Comcastcares) and click on "Private Message Me”.
At the top of each Forum page you will see a small envelope
This is the icon for Private Messages, referred to as ‘PM’s’. A Private Message is a way to communicate in private, to another User, Moderator, or Administrator out of public view in the Forums.
The gray envelope icon will have a number next to it if you have any new messages waiting.
To open a PM to read it, double click on the envelope. If you click on the white envelope a window will open with tabs for your Private Message Inbox, Sent Messages, Friends, Ignored Users, and Compose new Message. You can also access this area by clicking on the Username in a Thread or post. By default, Private Messages are enabled. You can disable this feature in My Settings>Preferences> Private Messenger.

I do not have any VPN enabled?

Do you happen to have an Android?  If so and depending on what version there is a great data usage analyse tool built-in.  See if you can go to Settings -> Data Usage  from there you can pick a current or previous billing cycle and then use the vertical sliders to select a date range and it will filter the usage data per app to show you exactly what app(s) were using data during that time frame.

  • Home Sharing - Internet Usage

Will Home Sharing have any effect on my internet usage (data) at all? If so, how much will it use?

    Short Answer: No
    Long Answer:
Home Sharing uses your WiFi around the house. So, for example, assuming your router is a wireless one and your Mac and iDevices use your private WiFi, then setting up home sharing means your iDevices, or your AppleTV, or any sound-system connected to your WiFi network via Apple Airport Express, will be able to share the Media library in iTunes on your Mac.
ie: Whilst at home, in the garden, assuming your wifi extends into your garden, you can listen to any of the music that's on your Mac, through your iPod Touch. Or even watch a movie that you downloaded to your Mac, on your TV (with Apple TV). All wirelessly.
To turn on Home Sharing, you'll need to enter you Apple ID and your password in iTunes on your Mac (Advanced>Turn on Home Sharing) and then do the same on any other device you which to have home sharing too.
    Hope that helps.
