  • Sounds icon (bell with line through it)

    WHen I turn the ringer switch on the bell icon keeps flashing on and off of my screen muting my phones ringtone and alerts I have taken it to apple store the tech set it back to full reset (lostlists of my photos in the process) so annoying as applI shop isn't close by where I live

    One way I got it to appear, in the settings and general you can choose what the side switch does, is it allmute or rotation lock. Have it be 'all mute' and then flip the switch so that you see orange it means that all the sound on your device is muted.
    Simply turn that switch off and the bell goes away.

  • Updating the Line number on status bar.

    Hi all,
    I have developed an editor using swing, however I have used the JTextpane class to display the text. I had did of trouble with features such as go to line as this class does not support methods such as getLineCount in the JTextArea class. However I over came this by writing the method shown below.
    The problem is that I want to show the current line number on the status bar. When do I call this method? After every '\n'?
    The setLine Number method is below.
    Thanks for your help
    Ciara
    public void setLineNumber(int num) {
    int lineNum = 1;
    int lastNewline = 0;
    char text[] = editor.getText().toCharArray();
    if (num < 1)
    return;
    if (num == 1) {
    editor.setCaretPosition(0);
    return;
    int i;
    for (i = 0; i < text.length; i++) {
         if (text[i] == '\n') {
         lastNewline = i;
         lineNum++;
         if (num == lineNum) {
         editor.requestFocus();
         editor.setCaretPosition(lastNewline + 1);
         return;
    }

    Perhaps extending a PlainDocument is better, if line
    numbers are meaningful for your application.
    About your method, mind that getText can be quite dear,
    so it is better not to call it if you don't need it.
    For a more efficient alternative, look at Document.getText(int offset, int length, Segment txt)It uses a Segment (un unguarded string) pointing directly
    into the document, which you can use much like a char
    array.
    As to your question, I would define a CaretListener
    so as to update the status bar when the caret moves.

  • Boot up problems - Sawtooth G4 - circle with line through it

    Hi,
    I have had Leopard working for a month+ on our Sawtooth G4 PowerMac. My son was using the machine a little while ago and did a normal shutdown. I just restarted it and after the white screen with the grey apple logo (with the spinning clock-like bars icon below it), the Apple Logo now becomes a circle with a diagonal line through it.
    Any idea what the issue is ?
    thank you
    'mark

    The circle/slash indicates it cannot find a viable OS. You may need to reinstall Leo on the machine. Using archive and Instal may be sufficient.
    Note: Of course, many will let you know that Leo is not supported on a Sawtooth, but that is not the issue here. "Support" and "Installing" are two different things. If you used target mode, as I suspect you did, will work to A&I as well. If you have a backup, then just clone it over.

  • After update to 10.8.4 FaceTime has camera with line through it

    It may be a coincidence, but after recently updating to 10.8.4 my FaceTime no longer works. When I open the program there is a camera with a line through it. If my wife tries to call me, the only option I have is to hang up the call.
    It's been working great on my computer for years, so not sure if this is a hardware failure that just coincidentally happened when I upgraded to 10.8.4.
    Anyone know of any tricks to try and reset the camera? I have tried rebooting and even tried a sudo killall VDCAssistant in terminal, but all I get with that is No matching processes were found.

    It looks like I found a solution, so I answered my own question. I resset the system management controller (SMC per this link http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964 and FaceTime is now working properly.
    I will updated this thread if it stops working again.

  • Trying to download version 4. Symbol appears with line through it , and I can't install it. Will not work. Have a mac os X version 10.4.

    I was trying to upgrade my version of Firefox. Downloaded the new one, got rid of old one as it said could not install because old one existed. Now cannot use either. Firefox circle has line through it.

    For to use Firefox 4.0 and newer you need both Intel and OSX 10.5 or newer.
    Either you can use the 3.6.17 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html or use a third-party build of Firefox 4.0 from http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
    note there is no actual 4.0.2 as they decided to get ahead with their own build.

  • MBP hangs after login screen with Circle with line through it

    Recently, my MBP (Model A1278, MB990LL/A) started doing the "folder with blinking question mark" at start up as if it couldn't find the startup disk.
    I held Option at startup and chose the Macintosh HD that it found.  After selecting, it brings me to my username/login.  I type in the PW and hit enter and the screen turns gray and I see the Apple logo in the middle with spinning gear below it.  (All good so far, as this sequence is the same sequence as my other MBP).  After about 1min of gear spinning though, the Apple logo changes to a Circle with a line through it.  It never logs in and I never see the desktop.
    Troubleshooting I've done:
    1.  Pulled out the HDD, plugged it up to my OTHER MBP and ran Disk Utility on the whole drive.  Found no errors.
    2.  Put the HDD in question in my OTHER MBP and booted into my user account just fine.  All the way to Desktop, no problems.
    3.  Took my WORKING HDD from my OTHER MBP and put it in the MBP in question and tried to boot, did the same thing.  Circle with line after logging in.
    4.  Tried to run Apple Hardware Test from boot cd by holding D but nothing happens.  Just gray screen to infinity.
    5.  Replaced the trackpad from my OTHER MBP just for fun
    Any ideas?  I'm usually pretty good at this stuff, but this one has me stumped.
    Thank you!!!

    No luck.  I can't do a Safe Reboot, nor can I reset the NVRAM/PRAM.  When I power on either 1 of 2 things happen.  A) Nothing, grey screen until folder with flashing question mark or B) When it decides to, it finds my HDD and goes to login screen but after entering pw and hitting submit, I get the Apple logo for a minute then replaces with a Circle w/ Line.
    Can't hold Shift at reboot, can't hold c to boot from DVD (have to hold Option and choose DVD), can't hold D and boot the Apple Hardware Test DVD.
    Does anyone know of a way to reset the NVRAM/PRAM manually?  Is there a CMOS battery like on a windows PC or something similar that I can remove to reset?  Command+Option+P+R does not work, it reads that I've pressed Option and gives me the Startup Disk Manager screen to select a drive to boot from.
    Thanks

  • Won't boot shows circle with line through it

    Hi, I just started my Mac Mini and the apple logo turns to a circle with a line through it.  Any ideas?

    hi guys, hope u all are good?
    i Have a problem with my Mac mini starting up...
    a Couple of months ago I had an issue with my iPhones syncing to iTunes, I contacted apple support centre for assistance and got it fixed after weeks of struggle with apples technicians helping night after night we figured out that the only way to successfully get the iPhones synced we had to create a new user account which was the last resort we wanted, the. Helped me installing OS X numerous times and did report and all the was to do ( to much to explain).  So they suggested that the only was with the new user account but advised that when I have backed up everything I should contact them and the would help me format the hard drive and installing everything onto the Mac mini from scratch, so I did that and got the hard drive formatted and choose the option to install a new copy of OS X off the net via the disk utilities centre on the Mac mini on downloading completion the Mac mini rebooted and started up by hanging with with the startup screen so I switched it off and switched it Back on after a couple of minutes i got the apple changing into a circle with a strike thru?
    I Have tried installing a OS X on a external and changing the booting device but the Mac mini doesn't respond anything done on the keyboard?
    IS there here any one out there that would be able to advise how I can try and fix this myself?

    Something is messed up with the Disk.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
    Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

    I've only had my new iMac for a week and today when I rebooted I got a gray circle with a line through it. I've already done the command-r and used Disk Utility to Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions... over and over. As a last resort I even reinstalled Mountain Lion with the OS X Internet Recover. No such luck. After it still booted with the gray circle with a line through it.
    I was able to use "Scan Image for Restore" to see that all my files are on the hard drive.
    What should I do?

    Thanks for the response, mende1!
    Unfortunately, I also previously tried booting with the Shift key. Nothing. It acted like I wasn't even pressing the Shift key. I tried it multiple times. Sorry, I forgot to say that in my initial post.
    I just tried the Option key and selected Macintosh HD (the only option). I still got the gray circle with the line though it.
    I've already spent at least 30-40 hours installing all my software and transferring over all my pics and music. I can't "erase the disk and install OS X again".

  • 8110 Wont Power On - Battery symbol with Line through it

    Hi, I have a Blackberry 8110 that I have just bought from a second hand shop. When plugged in the phone doesnt appear to charge and has a faint battery icon on the screen with a line through it. It has been charging for about 5 hours now and i have tried the reccommendation of removing the battery with plugged into USB and still doesnt work. I have also used a spare fully charged blackberry battery which also doesnt work. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    I found out what the problem was. I had installed Norton Internet Utilities. When the subscription expired I tried to uninstall it using the provided uninstaller. That did not delete all of the files and this was causing the start up problems. Since I followed the following instructions (link below) and downloaded and ran the program issued by Symantec (the company who makes Norton) It solved all the problems I was having. I suggest if you had the same issue as me just after uninstalling Norton this will correct the problems!
