Belle FP1

Hi all. Does anyone know the rollout dates etc for "Belle FP1" in NewZealand?

I have a 701 which comes with Belle installed as standard and which I bought after reading reviews of FP1 which had already been released in Europe. A few days before I bought it Nokia announced that the rollout in Asian countries (including Taiwan) had started and Nokia's Taiwan web site had started advertising FP1 on its 701 suppoft page. Three months later I still don't have it. Nokia care has confirmed that no customer in Taiwan has it but has not yet been willing to state even an intention of ever getting to me or any other customer here.
When I have asked why they continue to advertise in on their web site without a clear intention to deliver it I have not got a straight answer. I am waiting for another call-back now. Let's hope for more luck this time.
I had read lots of stuff about Belle and Australia, but hadn't realised that New Zealand was in an even worse position.

Nokia 700 and Belle FP1 (Product Code 059L5V1)

My unlocked Nokia 700 (Product Code 059L5V1) never got the Belle FP1 upgrade, and so far hasn't got FP2 several months on from release. Can someone from Nokia advise -
1. Why not - it's unlocked, and so far I've used it on both O2 and Vodafone Contracts
2. It's a UK model to my knowledge
3. When am I likely to get it / how can I get it.
I was fobbed off with FP1 and so far all requests to Nokia have again been fobbed off with a combination of "it's your network provider" or "it will be soon" - this was months ago. Now that there are no longer any (to my knowledge) Service Centre's in the UK that isn't an option either.
I've always been a loyal Nokia customer - but this is really starting to annoy me now (and the lack of support on this matter from Nokia).
Please can one of the Nokia mods / employees look into this and advise what is going on here ?

You know I've heard those lines so many times it's beginning to sound like cut-and-paste.
The fact that he mentioned PRODUCT CODE in the subject line is a fair indication that he knows that his phone has a PRODUCT CODE.
My 059L5V1 is a country variant which was both unbranded and unlocked. It now has the 059G2D1 generic EU FP2 firmware on it. I'm not allowed to say how I achieved this, or I'll get banned.
If it wasn't for the fact my 808 is so good I would have given up on Nokia by now.

Does Nokia Gig Finder work with Belle FP1?

Has anyone tried Nokia Gig Finder with Belle FP1 to see if it works since it does not with regular Belle?
I only have an N8 so I can't try it.... yet.

Need to re-install Belle FP1 on 701; Error: First ...

Having a strange issue while attempting to re-install Belle FP1 on 701. Error is "First put in your SIM card". The SIM is in and working fine... Any one else seen this?

You can format from Windows CD if that is what you mean by "windows side."
Updates are usually done while boot in the OS you want to 'upgrade' while custom is only done booted from other media.
With a Mac Pro you could easily install in many different ways than if you only had a laptop or imac.
But you can't "pick yourself up by your own bootstraps."
I don't even like upgrade of SL while booted in Mac OS.
If it was my Mac I'd install Windows 7 and make better use of your hardware and the performance afforded.

N8 Update Symbian Belle FP1

Is update for Belle FP1 available now for N8? I heard somewhere that it will be released in June 2012. There's already a video about N8 having the FP1 update. I tried updating thru Nokia Suite but its taking a veryy long time just to check for update, i think its past 1 hr already.
is there an alternative way to upgrade? we have no wifi here so i cant update thru my N8.
Updating thru Nokia suite is becoming a pain. i dont know why its taking so effin long. its not downloading yet its just on checking status.

By periodical I mean one should check for updates from time to time to see if any are available. Would you not consider the recent MS Apps and Upload to Skydrive as updates for Belle?
You are correct in that the last major update was back in February and Nokia have confirmed that there will be further updates to Belle devices, but nobody knows when or how many.
It's likely that Belle was the last major update the first gen phones will get, and any further updates are likely to be bug fixes, general improvements and such like.

No reinstall option after installing Belle FP1 on ...

Hi!
I just wanted to ask how can I reinstall my software on my 701. There is no longer that option after I updated to Belle FP1. I tought it was due to corupted nokia suite, but I also tried on my laptop, and using stand alone nokia software updater 3. They always showed the option to reinstall the OS. Anyone else has this problem?

Wi-Fi bug in Belle FP1/FP2 was addressed

Hi everyone,
This week Nokia Beta Labs team released a fix for the Wi-Fi disconnect / limited connectivity that plagued Belle FP1 / FP2 devices when these were connected with older wi-fi routers. It seems that the fix really does its magic :-)

That's normal and is there to help extend battery life. It only takes a few seconds to reconnect to wifi.

Video player in Belle FP1???

I just saw this picture here, the video player is unlike the one I get on my 701 (with Belle FP1).
Or does that depend on the video file format?
OR is that what we'll get in a future update.
ORR is that what we should have got, but Nokia decided to cancel that, and continued the old stlye?

Where did you find this photo? It could be that the device in this picture is using a custom UI or an application of somekind which has a different interface when playing videos.
The UI you should be seeing should look like this

Nokia Belle FP1 - Microsoft Apps 2.0

Is available a application Microsoft Apps 2.0 for Nokia FP1 belle? I have Nokia 700 with Nokia Belle FP1 and this application is not available via Software Update or via Nokia Suite.

Belle FP1 and battery life.

Hi,
After updating to Belle FP1, battery of my 701 last only for 10 to 12 hours.
With previous version of Belle it was battery was lasting for about 20 to 25 hours.
Anyone facing same problem, please reply.

Mkv format MOVIES not running on belle fp1

Hi frndz,
It is so irritating that I cannot play any mkv format movies on my nokia 603.
It is a totally time consuming process of converting the movies into supportable format.so ,NOKIA please provide us any MKV MOVIE PLAYER like that of andriod to resolve this issue.

Nokia Belle FP1 supports MKV playback. MKV however is not a video encoding but a container for a combination of audio and video files, usually MPG-4 video and AAC for audio.
That said a MKV container you use on your PC or Mac may not play on your 603 because the encoding is too high. For use on the 603 it would be advisable to use an encoding using the main or baseline profile with a level of upto 3.1
You will find several tools online which will allow you to transcode your video files to an encoding which the 603 will be able to play.

Problem with belle fp1 on nokia 701

i updated my nokia 701 phone to belle fp1 and i really like the new features that came with. Since the upgrading, i do encounter problem with the phone. The phone may fail to recieve network while others are, or switching itself on and off continuosly until i restore it back to factory settings. This always make me to loose a lot of applications i have downloaded. It is painful because i have restored it to factory settings more than 5times within 5months. I'm afraid of upgrading to fp2 now. Pls enlighten me on how to solve this problem.

Sorry to hear that you are still having problems with your 701. It appears you have tried everything, so apart from performing a three-finger hard reset, and this not working, then your only option is to take your phone to your local Nokia Care point for them to take a look at.

Nokia Belle FP1 Pros and Bugs.

I have FP1 installed on my 701.
I must say this update is significant improvement from the old belle in terms of features and functionality.
I'm happy that Nokia solved most of the problems that I have mentioned earlier.

Highlights:-
Menu scrolls pretty fast.
Menu search is much better.
Apps and games open much faster.
Installation of apps is fast too.
Faster startup.
Nice transition effects than before.
Dolby digital plus seem to be a major highlight.
New widgets.
New Multitasking view.
New message conversation view.
Improved dropdown bar.
Improved music player.
New web browser.
Improved camera interface.
Bugs/Drawbacks:
1. Menu scroller is absent.
It is not even present in shortcut list (Homescreen-add shortcut), installations, File manager, add-new-contact and widget list!!
2. While pinch to zoom, Image shakes.
3. Battery backup seem to be adversely affected.
4. I opened the old maps application (maps from 111.030.0609) and tried to download maps from maps loader, It shows list of available continents and when I try to download the maps, the wifi disconnects immediately, everytime.
5. Connecting phone in mass storage mode makes the phone hang sometimes.
6. Opening multiple qt applications and some other normal applications causes the new qt application to not to launch. Maybe this is due to use of close all in multitasking view?
7. E mail seem to be not notifying new mail arrival even after setting retrieval frequency to soonest.
8. Switching between open apps in multitasking view is not so occurate or fast. Sometimes it doesn't switch at all, we need to be more precise.
9. Some menu icons become black colored sometimes and normal when you use menu(See PIc).
10. Adding a new contact and its details is still a problem once the keypad(board) pops up, we need to close keypad to scroll to add further details!
11. Stereo video recording is missing as I was misguided by the specification page of Nokia.
*2 Microphones for stereo recording! (Is that possible to provide that in the next update?)
12. The graphic of volume up and down when we press volume rocker is more ugly now. Not seem to be alligned in place.
13. My phone is getting heated up if I use maps, and multiple applications. This never happened before.
14. No exit option for file manager. Only way is to press End key.
15. Calender is missing week view.
16. Long pressing on the song while in portrait mode with small cover flow in the music player seem to be not working, maybe while connected with PC.

Display turns always on my 701 after locking using side lock key. I think this happens after connecting to PC in Nokia suite mode.
Also in the gallery we cannot goto last picture(Image at bottom of gallery) by scrolling first picture(Image at the begining of gallery) by swiping left to right.
Connecting to PC causes problems in the device, no problem working with PC.
FP1 is Very poor software for connecting to PC in Mass storage as well as in Nokia suite mode, Device hangs and display won't turn off after lock respectively.
Nokia solve all these immediately.
Hope 808 comes with updated FP1.

Belle fp1 update for n8

any idea when fp1 update for older symbian3 devices will be available for southern africa region, swaziland in particular?

For devices like N8 and C7, improved Belle like FP1 could be released AFAIK.

Dolby headphones icon , Belle FP1 - WHEN IS IT ON/...

After updating to Feature pack 1 , there is an option to turn dolby digital plus . It comes in the form of an icon when listening to something with headphone connected.
The icon is bright and when clicked it turns darker, but I dont seem to understand which of those 2 situations means off and which means on.
Is it on when the icon is bright (meaning, the bright color means "it's curreny on")
OR
Is it on when the icon is dark (meaning, the bright color means "if you click it, it will be on")
it's very unclear to me and for no good reason. Symbian is a good OS, unlike other phones, in Nokia Belle, holding on an icon brings up the icon description - what it's supposed to do and solve these kind of misunderstandings. But in this case, holding the Dolby Headphones icon just brings up the words "Dolby Headphone", in both cases: Holding the icon when it's bright, and also after clicking icon, meaning, when holding icon when it's dark.
Do you understand my intention? There is a dilemma here, on a broader scale it's because it's unclead if the shape of a button (for example, being bright) means it's what the status is currently now, or if the shape of a button is the action, meaning what the status WILL BE after clicking.
For example, the PAUSE button is an icon that shows what WILL BE after clicking . So I want to assume that it's the same with dolby, bright color means "click me and i will turn on." But it could also mean " I am on, click me to turn off ".
Hope Nokia would be smart to update that icon's description to be "Turn Dolby Headphone on" and "Turn Dolby Headphone off". This would clear confusion.
