  • Nokia 500 and Belle Refresh: browser issues.

    Greetings.
The Belle Refresh was indeed a welcome refresh for this low-to-midrange phone. However, there is a serious issue with the browser.
With the update to Qt 4.8, you inherited QtWebKit, an amazing browser I know very well. In a desktop, it's fast, although it eats more memory than Firefox. However, in a cell phone like the 500, with limited amounts of RAM, this browser freezes the phone, due to the lack of memory. I'm also sure this browser can and will break phones with more memory and Belle FPx, since I've made QtWebKit use more than 1 GB of RAM in a computer running KDE.
There is a way to avoid this, called "user agent". Opera Mobile avoids this scenario by telling pages through user agent "hey, don't be hard on me, I'm browsing this from a cell phone", and pages adjust themselves to that scenario. However, you didn't tweak the user agent in your browser.
If you add no user agent tweaking, full HTML5 support, Flash Lite support (the much higher specced iPhone 4S doesn't support Flash), and low memory, you get a nightmare scenario.
    1. The webpages send their complete, full featured DESKTOP versions to my Nokia 500.
    2. QtWebKit supports everything, so, it makes a faithful attempt to properly render the page, even with Flash apps.
    3. Nokia 500 has only 70-80 MB of RAM free for apps to use.
    4. Boom.
Can you release a hotfix for Belle Refresh, changing the user agent of Nokia Browser to something that can trigger the mobile version of web pages? In that scenario, QtWebKit will eat much less memory and everyone will be happy. And please, can you do this for everyone using Belle Refresh?

I can confirm serious browser issues with the Belle refresh on a C6-01 device. The crash is so severe that only taking out the battery helps. It typically occurs when scrolling larger, feature-rich (and image-rich) webpages, so far I've seen this only on mobile connections (Edge, Umts), but that may be due to lack of testing with WLAN. (Where I've got WLAN I've usually a more powerful device as well..

  • Belle Refresh Issues

I have recently updated my N8 with Belle Refresh & I have noticed a few issues. Apologies if any of these are answered elsewhere but I couldn't see them amongst all the posts:
    1) My phone doesn't seem to vibrate for texts or calls anymore. I've missed several calls on silent as a result. Before anybody asks yes I have checked that vibrating alert is set to on. Interestingly it does vibrate for emails.
    2) My battery life has been drastically reduced meaning that I frequently have to charge it twice a day. I can go to bed with full charge & it's exhausted by the time I wake up. I've adjusted my email retrieval settings & don't leave apps running.
    3) Something seems to be eating my data at a much faster rate than before but I can't work out what. NB I make sure I use wifi wherever possible.
Any suggestions regarding any of the above will be gratefully received. Thanks

    Hi Paul Wilk,
    Welcome to the Forum.
To perform the "3 finger deep reset" which is depress these three keys simultaneously "*" "3" "green phone" and then power on phone whilst keeping those same three keys depressed until you hear start-up tone.
This should ONLY be done if the device doesn't power up normally anymore and it wipes everything in the Phone memory that is not part of the ROM.
Don't forget to save all your files before.
    Pfrancoise.

Here is the solution: For thos who uses a negative GMT ,like me (Argentina  -3 GMT) , will need to change for a positive GMT ,like Germany +2 GMT, then go to youtube with your native browser, see how works, and finally go back to your previous GMT.

  • Questions on FP1, FP2, Belle Refresh and availabil...

    Hello,
First things first: Note that my post is not intended to ask when Belle Refresh will be available for my phone. I have been reading a lot about this topic, on this and many other forums, and know by now that I need to be patient and wait for Belle Refresh to be available for my Nokia N8-00.
    My questions are:
Among the many things I read, one caught me completely off-guard. It stated that Belle Refresh might be discontinued for older phones like the N8 because of the many hardware limitations, the many reported issues and the complexity of the deployment for the many different product codes. Is there any truth to it?
Can someone please explain what the FP1, FP2 and Belle Refresh features are, what the release sequence is, and why these updates have not been released simply as "Symbian Belle updates" and identified by a sequential software version number?
Lately, I have noticed that there are more and more apps for Symbian "disappearing" from the Store. I noticed this when I tried to reinstall a home-banking application after a full phone-reset/reinstall and I was not able to find that app on the Store anymore. The Store's support was not able to help and recommended to contact the software provider. So I did. Their answer was pretty straightforward: "We are not developing applications for Symbian anymore because it's an obsolete and unsupported platform." (sic) Other software development companies gave me similar answers (anyone can contact and ask Soft Pauer, a company that develops a Formula 1 app. This company is the official software provider for "Formula One World Championship Limited" and disregarded the Symbian platform as a target for the official Formula 1 mobile app last year). My question: Has anyone in this forum also heard something like this? If so, why is Nokia telling us they will support and promote Symbian until 2014?
    Thank you!

The Nokia Belle Refresh was just released about a week ago or so. So, even if there is indeed Nokia Belle FP2 Refresh or whatsoever for these phones, it might take (Probably) months for it to released. In anyhow, we will never know when will it released or even if there IS Nokia Belle FP2 for Nokia 500 or older.
If I have helped you in any way, give me a kudos!

  • E6-00: what's wrong with Belle refresh (and other ...

I've been following this forum and have always been up-to-date with E6-00 firmware. I've been almost happy with Belle and was expecting hardly the Belle refresh version for the Music player upgrade. What I got was - ? I don't know. Just the new version and no instant visible change. However... :
    - the Music Player is the same. Meaning, no song search and still ridiculous user interface
    - the phone tries to establish the data connection quite often even if no application is open
    - the phone is hardly responsive from time to time (while looking for the network connection)
    - the phone does not want to connect to the wifi. Restart helps.
    - the phone loses the network operator and does not reconnect. Happened once (when roaming). Restart helps immediately.
    - the Microsoft Apps: pursued upgrade. I personally do not need them. The screen is simply to small to use them effectively.
    - (not a complaint) the battery life: I think the battery life is not really affected by the OS. Those complaining about shorter battery life should check how much time they spend using the phone, being connected to wifi, etc.
I'm very disappointed with the E6-00. I try to keep it positive but it keeps me down with every (new) issue. Does anyone has advice what to do with upper mentioned issues? I bought the phone ~2 months after it was available. I'm assuming that these first production series can have hardware issues? My phone was on reparation twice: for the notification light (hardware thing) and bluetooth issues (voice not heard over the bluetooth headset). The latter is still present I think...
I consider buying E71 since there's no other good (Nokia) phone on the market. What makes me sad the most is that my iPod touch does wifi connection and other things smoothlessly... But I don't want an iPhone (which is in principle the same as iPod touch), I just want a good Nokia.
    Regards,

    strelamcqueen:
I agree with your post except for the fact that Belle hosed my E6.  Meaning: if you look at all my other posts, it's all about the GPS data functions that were awesome with the E71 then went away with the E6 on Anna.  At least with Anna, there was an app called LeGPSData2 that restored most of the E71 GPS functionality.  LeGPSData2 is not compatible with Belle. Sooo, I am currently using my E6 ONLY because of the decent camera.
Belle made the UI look pretty but that's it.  I found the same problems with the responsiveness that you mentioned and issues with not connecting to my home wifi when I try to browse the net at home.  There's nothing like downloading a bunch of big files only to discover that I've chewed up a bunch of data because the phone didn't connect to wifi.  I put the wifi widget on one of my home screens and I make sure that I manually connect to wifi now before starting the browser. The Microsoft app via the upgrade were a joke. They actually took over Quick Office so that Excel and Word opened with MS Office Mobile.  This would be fine but they open so tiny they are unreadable and they are not editable with MS Office Mobile for some reason.  I removed the MS apps immediately.
My battery life suffered a lot after Belle refresh.  With normal use as before the upgrade I would get home with about 50% battery with 3G ON.  With Belle refresh,  The battery won't make it through a full day with 3G on and I end up with about 25% battery at the end of the day with 3G off.  Good thing I don't use much data through the day!
This is actually my second E6; long story but the first I upgraded to Belle and was disappointed with the loss of LeGPSData2 app.  This one I was forced to upgrade to Belle refresh because while updating Ovi Maps one night, the update completely deleted the Ovi Maps app and I could not get it back without updating the OS to Belle refresh.
So I am with you.  I too am very disappointed with the E6 but most of my disappointment comes from the software 'upgrades'.  If Nokia would just leave well enough alone, all would be fine.  I am sorry I have no advice to take care of the problems you and I are facing.  I am in search of a new phone now and if I don't downgrade to an E72, I won't be getting a Nokia again.  It's a sad story because I have been a die hard Nokia fan for a long time.

  • Nokia Belle Refresh update just launched

*NOTE: Please read this post before making a reply. At this time there is no information on when which product codes are made available so please do not post such requests and keep this thread clean and easy to follow. We will make sure to let you know of any additional information as it becomes available.
    Hi all,
great news! We just started to roll out our next update for Symbian called Nokia Belle Refresh for Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01, Nokia X7 and Nokia Oro with version number 111.040.1511 (Nokia E6, version number 111.140.0058, will follow still this week, Nokia 500 updates will follow shortly).
This update again brings new features to Symbian smartphones, for example:
    -          a new browser with HTML5 web apps support, a new set of homescreen widgets, and the previously released Microsoft Office Mobile App and Nokia Maps Suite 2.0 in one package.
    -          Nokia N8 will have some extra apps for imaging
The update will be rolled out in phases, starting with the vanilla versions (ie. basic software variants without any specific operator or country configuration). Country and operator variants will follow within the next weeks, depending on local and operator approvals.
pS: Just like after updating from Nokia Anna to Nokia Belle, some apps may not work due to compatibility issues. If you need more information on available apps, please contact your local Nokia Care support. Furthermore, you can also contact the respective App developer to enquire about the compatibility.
    Best regards,
    Yvonne from Nokia Care

Someone please tell me what's happening.
I have launched Nokia Suite and a screen about the new Nokia Belle update was available, so I connected my C6-01 via USB cable and started the update process.
After some minutes the device restarted and Nokia Suite informed me about the successful update to v111.40.1511 .
Then I checked in "Device Management" in my C6-01 and discovered with extreme horror that the version in my phone is still the v111.030.0609 .
Now I have to reinstall 46 applications, deleted by the update process. I'm very disappointed for this and wondering why Nokia Suite did informed me about a wrong update.
    Sorry for my poor english.

  • Massive power drain after Belle Refresh update on ...

    Hello
From being a minor annoyance the massive power drain from my N8 after Belle Refresh update is now a big problem!
The battery does not even last a full day now
No apps running - power save on, but to no avail.
After advice from Nokia Support I've tried to reinstall Belle Refresh again from Nokia Suite, but it didn't make a difference.
What else can be done? Is it possible to uninstall Belle Refresh completely?
Some have suggested it is because of the weather widget. Any confirmation from Nokia on that issue?

I have Belle refresh for over a month now and I keep running the weather widget permanently on first screen. Overall the power consumption is the same as before on Anna (I skipped the first Belle incarnation).
The only particular thing here is that I flashed clean the full 111.40.1511 version for my phone language. All I can tell is that in the first days after flashing the power drain was significant, merely because of intense phone usage, part of various customizations or just by curiosity. Since then the power consumption has slowly came back to "normal" for my daily usage habits.
Currently running widgets: clock, profile, weather, next coming event, BBC feed, WiFi, 3G, data usage counter, Nokia Battery Monitor, locations near me. Also Nokia Sleeping Screen is active. I gave up in using email widgets because I only use IMAP manual fetch mode and in this mode they are completely useless.

I am from India I have N8 (Product code--0599255) and I cannot find Colorize IT on my phone after update. Please anyone help me to find it where it is located in the phone. Please also tell me if anyone got this Colorize IT on there phone after the update...

    Hi all,
I have updated my N8-00 from Nokia Belle to Nokia Belle Refresh via Nokia Suite and the file was 306MB in size and after the update I did not get Microsoft Apps but received Nokia Maps though I had Nokia Maps Suite 2.0 installed before the Nokia Belle Refresh update and also I did not get the Colorize IT application also and I heard that Social was also updated to version1.5.234 but mine is still at 1.5.216.
Overall, my Nokia N8-00 has become more stable and performance in speed has increased with this update. I am from Kenya and received Nokia Belle Refresh shortly after Skyee announced that it is being rolled out on 27th August 2012.
Can anyone from Nokia or who has installed Nokia Belle Refresh confirm if Social was updated to version 1.5.234 or is it still at version 1.5.216 and also if Microsoft Apps were included in the Nokia Belle Refresh update after installation via Nokia Suite. Here is the Official Changelog from Nokia.

  • N8-00 (Belle Refresh) vs. Fiat Blue&Me pairing pro...

    Hello there,
Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia cars has Microsoft Mobile based Bluetooth audio setup.
    http://www.blueandme.net/blueandme/index.aspx
Once you pair your BT connection with Blue&Me, you can call and accept calls via the car. But, my N8-00 (Belle & Belle refresh) has a problem with Blue&me. Most of the times, N8 can not be paired with the car, even the Blue&Me set as authorised. A system application called "Sharing" prevents to pairing and phone become unresponsive. I have to manually force to close the "Sharing" application. Then I have to manually force to pair with Blue&Me. But in the next time I get in the car, I have to the same again.
I tried other N8-00's at the company, it is the same situation in all of them.
The firmwares on N8-00's are Belle, and Belle refresh. And Blue&Me has the latest version on it.
    Looking forward for a reply,

  • C7-00 Symbian Belle Refresh WLAN Software Update n...

Hi, I have that well-known problem that my C7-00's WLAN connection is breaking up after a couple of minutes, following the update to Symbian Belle Refresh.
Allegedly, there is/was a patch in Nokia Beta-Labs, the WLAN Software Update, which was supposed to fix that error.
The problem is, this update is now unavailable from reliable sources (direct download from WLAN Utilities.sis not working either) - and when I risked to install one of the versions of that update available on numerous internet sites, "Expired certificate" error message popped up.
Could anyone help solving this - I've been searching for the solution for a long time, to no avail.
    Thanks,
Nokia 2110 (bought the very original "brick" version back in 1995 ), 6110 (1997), 6210, 6310, 6310i, 6230, 6233, 5800, C7, HF-3, CK-20W, CK-300 (all bought new) - looked like a loyal Nokia customer, didn't it? So, Nokia had to give up on all these loyal customers! Now, life with Nokia phones running Symbian is a nightmare. Thanks a lot for letting us down, Nokia!
    Solved!

    Hi @nokh ,
I never noticed any WLAN issues on my C7 on Belle Refresh. The friend who was gifted the phone is still happy with it and refuse to let me upgrade it to a Lumia.
The trick to install software with expired certificates on Symbian phones: Shut the phone down, remove the SIM, start up and set the date when the certificate is valid, in this case early 2013. Once succesfully installed it continues to work when the date is set correctly.
The Wayback Machine has at least the documentation saved for reference
    http://web.archive.org/web/20130522104036/http://betalabs.nokia.com/trials/wlan-software-update
I hope this works for you? I'm curious if the betalabs update makes a difference or if your phone and/or router have a different problem, so please keep us posted.

  • Refreshing Applications List

    hi
i have a big problem ! i have 105 app in itunes but i can see only 20 of them [ i can only see 20 of them in applications list in iphone ], how can i refresh applications list in itunes on iphone?

    Hello,
Just so you are aware...when you signed up to this site, you were presented with certain sets of documentation concerning the purpose and acceptable use of this site. To reiterate (paraphrase) that for you now...this site is a user-to-user community. It is not a user-to/from-RIM channel for any formal communications whatsoever. Hence, the answer to your question would be no...no one from RIM can formally answer your question here. All escalations are contractually bound to follow your formal support channel...the place where you currently have an open ticket can escalate into RIM if required, but you have no free path by which to bypass them. You must first escalate through them, to higher and higher levels of their management if necessary, until such point as they agree to escalate into RIM. Such is the nature of the contractually required support channel...and all parties (the carriers, service centers, RIM, and indeed the end users) are bound by that contract to which they agreed upon purchase/subscription for services.
I wish there were a better answer for you, but sadly at this time there is not.
    Good luck!

    Why mobilnit operators?
    this is a software NOKIA
why they should be released please update Updates for other ANNA and BELLE I did the update without any problem

Well here is my N8/ Belle story, or should I say nightmare. I checked my phone for updates, and installed an important update, which ended up being Belle. Nothing has been the same since. What doesn't work on my phone since the install...
    - I can not make phone calls without turning the phone off and then on again. Even if I do that, there are no guarantees I can put a call through. Everything about dialing a phone number looks like it is working, but all I get is silence. If I call my phone from another phone, I hear the ringing on the phone I am using, but my N8 doesn't ring, or act like a call is coming in.
-I can't text message anymore, send or receive. I can create a message, press send, but it just sits in the outbox. Occasionally an " Unable to send" window pops up.
-I charge up the phone, and the battery is dead within hours. A charge will not last through the night. Here's the kicker....I just had a brand new battery installed.
I am sure there are other issues that I have yet to discover, because, well, I am trying to solve the important things like making a darn phone call!!
I have been around to nokia offical forums in other countries, and I have seen other Nokia phone owners experiencing the exact same problems as I am. I purchased the phone in Canada from Rogers. Last year, I came to the States for five months, unlocked the phone and used T-Mobile. I returned to the States again this wiinter (I am still in the USA), and am back on T-Mobile. Everything was fine until Feb. 28th, 2013, the day I did the install of Belle.
If there is anyone out there who can troubleshoot the issues, or offer some insight as to how to fix my phone, I will be very grateful.
