Benefits of bluetooth

can someone please explain to me the benefits of setting up bluetooth on my new macbook pro.

Bluetooth is a short range communications technology.
If you don't have any Bluetooth devices to connect to, then there is no benefit to setting up Bluetooth on your computer.
What Bluetooth devices do you have?

  • 8530 bluetooth setup in Windows 7 home premium 64bit

    Hi, I recently switched from windows xp pro 32bit, where my Bluetooth setup was flawless, to Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit.  My laptop sees the bluetooth phone and adds it.  It shows up under devices and on my curve the PC shows up under bluetooth devices.   BUT, under windows, no services are installed for the phone.  all information for the phone shows as unavailable and nothing populates under the serverices tab.  I have installed blackberry DTM and downloaded and installed modem and usb drivers for my curve 8530 and deleted the device over and over, but everytime, no services will be installed.  There are no yellow exclamation points anywhere or under device manager.

    No issues.
    On the contrary, subject to the image(s) being edited, Photoshop will thrive in a 64 bit Win 7 machine given the right tweaks.

    Be aware that two versions of Photoshop will be installed 32 bit and 64 bit. The 32 bit is there for legacy reasons with some plugins e.g. TWAIN scanner

  • IOS 5 bluetooth pairing

    Can't seem to get headset to pair with iPhone 4s . I shutoff bluetooth in settings, shut off headset, restarted both and still no pairing. Just a circle going round and round stating discovering. Any advice?
    Thanks

    Having issue trying to pair a Bang & Olufsen Earset 2 with iPhone 4 recently upgraded to iOS 5.  The phone simply won't recognize the earset whether I press and hold the earset button, etc. This earset worked fine on same phone last week with prior version of OS.   Was able to geta Jawbone paired rather easily.
    If anyone's been able to successfully pair a B&O Earset 2 with iOS 5, please share how it was done.
    In general, the benefits of iOS 5 don't come close to the hassle of performing the upgrade.  Have had many, many issues and Apple's documentation is effectively useless.  They've managed to match the disappointment of many Windows upgrades with this release.

  • Can anyone help CK-7W Bluetooth hands-free kit

    Can anyone help? I have a Nokia CK-7W Bluetooth hands-free car kit installed in my vehicle. I have recently up graded my mobile phone to a Nokia N 96, the phone is connecting by Bluetooth and all off the functions seem to work, the problem is with the quality when connected to a call I am not being cut off the call but the communication keeps breaking up. I have checked whether the N 96 needs updating and it would seem it is up to date so I would assume this is not a firmware problem. On connecting and pairing my N95 with the CK-7W it works perfect.

    The problem is with the firmware in the ck-7w, it is a discontinued model and will not work properly with some new phones. You will need to change to a ck-100 which will allow full benefits of the phone.

  • Are there any unique benefits to carplay?

    I couldn't find the appropriate community section for this question so I'm just posting it under iPhone since it's kind of related.
    I'm hearing a lot about apple's new carplay. It sounds interesting, but I'm having trouble understanding the major benefits of it compared to just using your iPhone in your car.  Right now I mount my iPhone and hook it up to my car stereo via USB.  All my apps' (music, gps, Siri) audio comes out the car stereo and I'm able to talk to Siri through the car Bluetooth mic.  (I could go completely wireless with all the audio via Bluetooth but I prefer the better sound quality of USB plus it charges.). The iPhone screen is easily viewable since it's docked near my vent and when necessary I can easily tap it.  Plus all my apps are available (useful driving apps like cheap gas locators), not just the ones supported by carplay.
    I see it's beneficial in that the icons on the car display would be bigger. But it's not that big a deal seeing stuff on my mounted iPhone.  Plus if it's truly meant to be "eyes free" then that shouldn't matter so much anyway.
    I don't think apple would spend so much time and energy on this if it wasn't for a huge benefit.  What am I missing?

    I only get 15% Access Discount & 20% Feature Discount on my line. Which comes out to -$15
    I do not get any employee discount on the second line.
    so $60-9+29-6=74 for one line not sure about the second line pricing...
    Hi jackscagnetti, and thanks to our forum members for the great input on this monthly pricing question.
    Using the numbers included on your post it seems like you have a 69.99 calling plan and a $29.99 data plan. Please see break down of fees below and difference between family share plan and individual calling plans.
    Current family share plan:
    Primary line
    $60.00 - Calling plan
    $29.99 - Data feature
    $89.99 - Subtotal
    $09.00 - Credit 15% calling plan
    $06.00 - Credit 20% data feature
    $74.99 - Total monthly fee for primary line (tax and surcharge not included)
    Secondary line
    $09.99 - Calling plan
    $29.99 - Data feature (if Smartphone on this line)
    $39.98 - Total monthly fee for secondary line (tax and surcharge not included)
    $114.97 - Total for 2 lines.
    2 individual lines with a $39.99 calling plan as used on previous scenarios in this forum/thread.
    $39.99 - Calling plan
    $29.99 - Data feature
    $69.98 - Subtotal
    $06.00 - Credit 15% calling plan
    $06.00 - Credit 20% data feature
    $57.98 - Total monthly fee for primary line (tax and surcharge not included).
    $115.96 - Total if system allows employee discount on both lines (tax and surcharge not included).
    $127.96 - Total if system allows discount on one line only (tax and surcharge not included). In both scenarios your monthly fees are lower with a Family Share calling plan.

  • Lost Bluetooth Connection when in Sleep-Mode

    Hey,
    when i have three devices hooked up with bluetooth to my 2009 27" imac (keyboard, magic mouse, magic trackpad) it randomly looses its bluetotth connection.
    so i have no possibility to type my password to log in.
    it mostly happens when the mac is in sleep-mode for longer period of time like over night or so.
    i have to restart the system with on/off-button which realy ***** ...
    does somebody have the same probs? or better a solution?
    thanks in advance...
    greetz

    My 3gs disconnects from my wi-fi at night while plugged into my wall charger causing my AT&T data usage to go over my 200mb plan. I like to listen to a radio app overnight and this situation is quite annoying. AT&T forgave the overage but had NO solution to my paltry wi-fi delimma. I am going to try the "sync while connected to wi-fi" setting in I-Tunes but I am almost afraid to try it again because the overage may not be forgiven this time and It's not worth the hassle. I have been using my Macbook instead for this duty with no worries of an overage. I'm also a Pandora fan and this has limited me to just using my I-Tunes library for music instead of Pandora. This is a problem that benefits AT&T and I'm sure they bill for LOTS of overages because of this problem. I hope the I-Tunes solution will FIX this glitch.

  • BH-501 headset to another Bluetooth headset?

    I want to be able to connect this headset to another how can I best do this?
    Thank-you
    Nigel

    I would want to do this as Bluetooth may well offer benefits to a hard of hearing person.
    With the BH-501 headset able to connect to a mobile phone, a USB adapter on PC, stereo adapters on hi-fi and TV etc. The wearer can switch the headset between each Bluetooth device.
    The last step (maybe the biggest) is to give the wearers headset a link to a microphone, to hear other people in the room. This might be best from another BH-501.

  • Ubuntu and API bluecove : java and bluetooth

    Hi
    Here is my final project I want study worked with bluecove api (java bluetooth technology) and J2ME you guessed I am looking to make contacts and nokia laptop via bluetooth
    then voila I first exposed my equipment:
    hp laptop duel core processor, 200 gig hard drive, 2 GB rowing bone ubuntu 10.10 and set a date and I installed the bluetooth driver that ubuntu recommended me short I followed this short course:
    http://myexp101.wordpress.com/2011/11/11/develop-java-bluetooth-application-under-ubuntu-linux/
    for the library installed on ubuntu bluecove then I tested a small java program:
    http://www.miniware.net/mobile/programs/EchoServer.java
    to see that Bluetooth is enabled and can detect the presence of mobile phone nokia
    I created a test project in eclipse and I joined the library in my project brief bluecove here is the program:
    import java.io.*;
    import javax.bluetooth.*;
    import javax.microedition.io.*;
    public class EchoServer {
    public final UUID uuid = new UUID( //the uid of the service, it has to be unique,
                   "27012f0c68af4fbf8dbe6bbaf7aa432a", false); //it can be generated randomly
    public final String name = "Echo Server"; //the name of the service
    public final String url = "btspp://localhost:" + uuid //the service url
    + ";name=" + name
    + ";authenticate=false;encrypt=false;";
    LocalDevice local = null;
    StreamConnectionNotifier server = null;
    StreamConnection conn = null;
    public EchoServer() {
    try {
    System.out.println("Setting device to be discoverable...");
    local = LocalDevice.getLocalDevice();
Discoverable(DiscoveryAgent.GIAC);
    System.out.println("Start advertising service...");
    server = (StreamConnectionNotifier)Connector.open(url);
    System.out.println("Waiting for incoming connection...");
    conn = server.acceptAndOpen();
    System.out.println("Client Connected...");
    DataInputStream din = new DataInputStream(conn.openInputStream());
    while(true){
    String cmd = "";
    char c;
    while (((c = din.readChar()) > 0) && (c!='\n') ){
    cmd = cmd + c;
    System.out.println("Received " + cmd);
    } catch (Exception e) {System.out.println("Exception Occured: " + e.toString());}
    public static void main (String args[]){
    EchoServer echoserver = new EchoServer();
    here is the result of the execution in eclipse:
    Setting device to be discoverable...
    BlueCove version 2.1.1-SNAPSHOT on bluez
    Exception Occured: javax.bluetooth.BluetoothStateException: Bluetooth Device is not ready. [1] Operation not permitted
    BlueCove stack shutdown completed
    Do you have an idea for solving the problem?
    cordially

    As I can judge, it is not just simple XML. An
    ODS-File contains some XML in just one file. It is
    not enough, just to parse it once with an XML. Is
    there any APIs I could use, to read the field values,
    or I have to write it myself?
    I don't know why, but if I google for java api and
    ods, openoffice etc. there is no information I need
    :-((As I said, I've not had the need to do it myself, but as this is one of the primary benefits of the ODF, it shouldn't be too taxing. The format seems to be pretty well documented (try the OO website.....I'm sure theres a developers section), so even if you had to write a parser yourself, I doubt it would be terribly difficult. Sorry I can't be of more help.

  • E52 and LD-4W Bluetooth GPS module ?

    Does the Nokia E52 support the LD-4W Bluetooth GPS module ?
    I'm aware of the builtin A-GPS in the E52, however, it seems using the LD-4W for GPS has benefits in terms of GPS accuracy as well as conseving the phones battery.
     Reinhard

    On the E71 i use the LD-4W.... and i can confirm that accuracy is much better... and time to first fix is much lower. Only few problems with sometimes unstable Bluetooth connection... but this is an issue i have with all bluetooth connections, so it seems to be the phone......

  • MIDP and Bluetooth as Java Card substitute

    Hi,
    I'm a Java developer, but not a Java Card developer, so I'm curious about the opinions of Java Card developers. It seems to me that IR and Bluetooth enabled J2ME/MIDP devices could be used in many situations where Java Cards are currently used. Depending on the adoption rates of
    a) Bluetooth enabled computers, devices, access points, etc... and
    b) cell phones with both Bluetooth and J2ME
    It may soon (a year or two) become cheaper and/or more convenient to issue users without a J2ME Bluetooth phone, such a device, than to issue all users Java Cards.
    So, entrenched coders
    1) Is this migration sane?
    2) Is anybody doing it, now?
    3) How hard/trivial is porting the applications?
    Thanks,
    Curt

    I'm aware of the JSR, but what is the security element ?On Sun Tech Days I was told it should be a Java Card. ;-))
    The main advantage of a smartcard is that it provides a trustworthy and tamper-resistant environment.
    Please have a look at
    http://www.simalliance.org/portal_upload/SIMalliance_comm.PDF
    I quote from the SIM Alliance site:
    "Thanks to a defined standard, easy downloading and powerful operating systems displaying high quality graphics, J2ME phones are making their mark. This leads to the question with such success and a memory capacity up to 1000 times the (U)SIM, will this relegate the Smart Card to a second class citizen?
    While Smart Card cannot compete with a Java handset for the sexy aspects of applications such as graphics, the core attributes of a Smart Card offer a number of significant benefits to application delivery, execution and management. All of these features require privacy management, security, portability and one-to-one personalization.
    Wireless applications must be secure and robust. However, it is feared that operators' revenue streams and secure pipeline will be threatened by the free delivery of applications mimicking the loss-making Internet portal model.
    This is where the Smart Card, (UICC, (U)SIM, and equivalent), will play an essential role in providing security, building trust and protecting revenues for mobile businesses.
    The card will become an integral part of the architecture for distributed applications running at the same time on Server, Handset and Smart Card to leverage the respective benefits of each part of the infrastructure.
    By looking at the strong points of each of the Java standards, Java Card and J2ME are not competing technologies but instead can be used in tandem to create an "open" and "secure" infrastructure that operators and content providers need in order to increase their ARPU and diminish costs. At present this infrastructure does not exist but leading operators, handset manufacturers, content providers and (U)SIM suppliers are working to make it a reality."

  • No shortcuts to Settings viz., Bluetooth, Network like ON/OFF switch

    Why iPhone does not have shortcuts to Settings viz., Bluetooth, Network like ON/OFF switch. This feature is available almost in all cheaper mobiles which is available in road side market! This is very essential and without this it's really irritating to get into Settings everytime. Why Apple is not providing this feature? Is there any reason technical that Apple can defend with. I believe there were some site supporting this and some applications (Apps Icon, Icon Project, etc.,) in iTunes stores. Seeing the descriptions, infact, I have purchased couple of applications but did not have the above metioned function after downloading it. I was cheated by your fake applications projecting wrong benefits. Will Apple be responsible for this?

    The reason you haven't gotten a reply is that no one here can answer your question (something you could have determined yourself by using the Search Discussions box). This is a user-to-use technical support forum. Apple does not participate here. No one here is privy to why Apple has made the decisions they have.

    How do I use a bluetooth headset with garageband? I can't get it to work after many tries.

    How do i use my Platronix bluetooth with iPhone4 to listen to music.
    Its a mono bluetooth paired with the phone.
    I dont want to buy a new stereo headset but can i use this same one.

    One way is to sync the contacts from the old iPhone to iCloud. Then when you turn on the new phone and set it up for iCloud and turn on the Contacts in Settings >iCloud, they will come to the new phone. http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/

  • How do I make Iphone proritise answering with bluetooth rather than ringing on phone?.

    Previously, when I received a phone call in my car, the bluetooth radio would ring and then I would take the call by pushing button on steering wheel. Ever since installing latest IOS the bluetooth device connects but the phone just vibrates (doesn't even ring) The radio shuts off but the audio ring does not sound. Have to answer the phone manually. Defeats the purpose of having handsfree!! I note that when I phone voicemail while in car the screen shows options to use bluetooth, Iphone or speaker phone. When I am in the car I JUST want to use handsfree bluetooth (it is the LAW!!). Is this just a glitch in the new operating system update? and if so, when will it be repaired?

    You can't. If iPhoto is open when you connect the phone then it will offer itself from importing.

  • Continuity Bluetooth Calling & SMS on Macbook Pro (via iPhone 5) Not Working

    Devices:
    Macbook Pro Mid-2010 running OSX 10.10.2
    Iphone 5 running iOS 8.1.3
    *NOTE: I understand that due to the version of the Bluetooth protocol in my machine, not all continuity features are available (Handoff, Air Drop, MBP Instant Hotspot)
    However SMS to IMessage and the ability to make and receive calls from my Mac should be OK according to Apple's system requirements one-sheeter:
    System requirements for Continuity on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac - Apple Support
    ================================================================================ =====================
    Here's my problem.
    I finally took the plunge last night and updated my iPhone 5 from 7.1 to 8.1.3 to access the iCloud Drive and additional continuity features integrated into Yosemite.
    When I tried to pair my iPhone 5 with my MBP over Bluetooth, all seemed to go well for the first 5 seconds.
    - Both devices were in discovery mode.
    - Mac saw the phone and displayed a security code
    - iPhone displayed the same security code and asked if I would like to pair with MBP
    - Pairing took place. Each devices Bluetooth profile / device showed up in my MBP Bluetooth's Preferences  and in my iPhone's Bluetooth.
    - 5 seconds later, there's no connection between devices.
    My iPhone displays:
    "Connection Unsuccessful: Make sure [Macbook Pro] is turned on and in range." (The phone is 5 inches away)
    Then sometimes I get this message:
    "Connection Unsuccessful: [Macbook Pro] is not supported.
    No rhyme or reason between the two either.
    Here's the baffling part: When I activate my Phone's HotSpot function, the Bluetooth works and connects with my MBP allowing it to use my cell phone network's data for internet connectivity.
    I don't understand what is going on or how to correct this? Can anyone succinctly explain how to correct this problems in layman terms?
    If the devices can communicate long enough to exchange security codes and verify their identities, then use Hotspot,  there is clearly a data exchange happening. Where is the break down taking place when it comes time to stay connected to so I can continue to use the limited continuity features.
    I've seen this question posted before by people having problems with different model years of MBP including the most recents models, so I know it's not mutually exclusive to my model year, but cannot seem to find clarity on an answer.
