Benefits of using SAP CAR compared to SAP BW on HANA

Hi
I' like to understand the benefits of using SAP Customer Activity Repository. How is it better than SAP BW on HANA? What extra functions does the customer get?

Hi Waldemar (wow, I remember E.A.Poe...)
take a look to this document...

  • How ADBC connection is benefits by using SAP HANA as secondary database ?

    Hi,
I have one more important question.
How ADBC connection is benefits by using SAP HANA as secondary database in terms of performance wise for the access of data from HANA database as a secondary database.
I have 2 options and which is better for the good performance for accessing the data-
1 .  In ABAP Reports in the SELECT statements by using CONNECTION (“HDB”) will this improve the
         performance.
e.g : select * from BSEG into TABLE IT_TAB CONNECTION (“HDB”).
    2. Will Create the Stored procedure in HANA studio and Call
from ABAP as below by using NATIVE SQL–
         EXEC SQL
          SET CONNECTION (‘HDB’).
         ENDEXEC.
        EXEC SQL.
          EXECUTE PROCEDURE proc (IN    p_in1
                                 OUT   p_out1   OUT   p_out2 )
       ENDEXEC.

    Hi Pravin,
Option 1: In this case ADBC might even worsen the performance due to the overhead in the ADBC framework. OpenSQL is the method to go here, as OpenSQL - from the ABAP point of view - features the optimal communication with the database while ADBC has overhead like constructor-calls for the statement, parameter binding, etc.
Option 2: In this case ADBC is comparable with EXEC SQL but features more options, e.g. clean concept of multiple connection (connection objects via CL_SQL_CONNECTION), exception handling, etc. So I strongly propose to favour ADBC over EXEC SQL, but not simply for performance reasons. You might have a look at the ABAP Language Help in your system on more information on ADBC and the advantages over Exec SQL.

    Hello,
please check Master Guide (page 9 - chapter 1.6 Software Components)
    https://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700000604552011
There you can find edition comparison and detailed description.
    To extract the short summary:
Platform edition = SAP HANA Database + Studio + Client + Host Agent + Information Composer
Enterprise edition = (Platform edition) + LT Replication Add-on (SLT) + LT Replication Server (SLT) + SAP BO Data Services
Enterprise extended edition = (Enterprise edition) + Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise + Sybase Replication Server + Sybase Replication Server Agent + SAP HANA load controller
It depends on what licenses you already have and how do you intends to use HANA.
Platform edition = ETL via BO Data Services (you already have license for BO Data Services)
Enterprise edition = SLT and/or BO Data Services (including licenses)
Enterprise extended edition = all replication technologies

  • Benefits for Jco to use SAP router?

When creating Jco destinations, there is an option to use SAP router.
Can we use this option to make the connection more secured for data transfer?
Any other benefits by using this option?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
check below 2 notes. Note 816032 will answer your question in my point of view.
Note 815837 - JCO saprouter string support for Live Auction application
    Reason and Prerequisites
In some cases where security is a concern, customer would like to use
saprouter string as a means to define the jco connections instead of
using direct hostname to the SRM system
Note 816032 - Using saprouter to configure UME with ABAP user management
    Reason and Prerequisites
In some cases where security is a concern, customer would like to use saprouter string as mean to configure the UME with ABAP user management instead of using the direct hostname in the J2EE Standalone to connect to the ABAP system.

    Hersh,
Look for some of the Success stories out there. That should help you. Below is one of it.
    http://www.securintegration.com/fileadmin/redakteur/binary/Success_Story_KRKA_SI.pdf
I too work at a Pharma client and having AC in place really helps. CC will help the internal SOX and audit team to verify that there are no SOD's. RE can streamline the role change approval process which will be of a great help when you see it from a auditor prospective. (You will always have the right approvals for the role changes a developer makes) and AE will help you reduce the paper work and the biggest advantage is the right approvals. Before using AE we used to have the paper based access request and we used to get a lot of audit issues because of the people approving roles that doesn't fall under their own space. (which will be taken very seroiously if it is a Pharma company.) FF advanages reamins the same across the industries.
    Hope this helps,

    Hi Vegendla
Technology playing a major role in today's business environment. So many companies and corporations have adopted information technology on a large scale by using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to accomplish their business transaction and data processing needs. And in this technology SAP R/3 plays a significant role when compared with other similar tools.
ERP system takes a lead role because of some of the following reasons:
Many large corporations use several different and separate information systems, often because they have merged with and/or acquired other companies with varied systems. An ERP system integrates these separate information systems and results in improved data reliability and processing efficiency. ERP systems are not only used by large corporations but becoming popular with small to mid-sized companies also.
Simplify business transaction processing and thus work load is reduced.
Some of the main advantages of using SAP R/3 are listed below:
SAP's R/3, introduced in 1992, is the most used ERP system in the world.
The R/3 software package is designed to allow businesses to effectively and efficiently operate a variety of business processes within a single integrated information system.
The software is customizable using SAP's proprietary programming language, ABAP/4. R/3 is scalable and highly suited for many types and sizes of organizations and runs on six different platforms.
SAP’s R/3 has been designed to be the best ERP system in the four areas of human resources, financial, supply chain management, and marketing. R/3 is also an international product, and meets the local fiscal, language, and tax requirements of most countries.

Could you please tell me how to find out the companies list which are currently using SAP CRM in their organization and located in australia
    Thanks
    David

This type of information is normally provided by SAP to their prospects and/or customers and sometimes partners etc.  If you are a SAP prospect and need this information, talk to your account executive.
I'm located in the United States, so I personally couldnt' give you any public examples of companies running CRM in Australia. I think however there is this general reference source for customer examples.

  • What are the advantages of Using SAP ?

what are the advantages of SAP when compared to other technologies?
what are the basic advantages of SAP

SAP's R/3, introduced in 1992, is the most used ERP system in the world.
The R/3 software package is designed to allow businesses to effectively and efficiently operate a variety of business processes within a single integrated information system.
The software is customizable using SAP's proprietary programming language, ABAP/4. R/3 is scalable and highly suited for many types and sizes of organizations and runs on six different platforms.
SAPu2019s R/3 has been designed to be the best ERP system in the four areas of human resources, financial, supply chain management, and marketing. R/3 is also an international product, and meets the local fiscal, language, and tax requirements of most countries.
SAPu2019s R/3 is very versatile, as it will operate on six different platforms, including the recently added Microsoft NT.
The R/3 package includes several very attractive features like it has a three-tier client/server system. Providing three tiers offers scalability and easier adaptation to the specific needs of large companies and fast-growing companies.
SAPu2019s R/3 is available in 14 different languages (German, English, Spanish, etc.) and also incorporates multiple currency features that provide essential information processing capabilities for multinational corporations.
R/3u2019s modules are organized by the functional areas of financial, human resources, supply chain management, and marketing. While information is entered separately for each specific module, the modules are fully-integrated and provide real-time applications. This means that data entered into one module is immediately and automatically updated and reflected in all oft the functional areas.
R/3 is composed of a single, virtual file structure with no subsystems.
In addition, SAP has released u201CMySAP.comu201D which is software that provides for data interaction and processing connections with the Web.
Financial and managerial accounting tools in SAP R/3 are contained in the financial accounting (FI) and the controlling (CO) modules. The General Ledger function in the FI module provides a comprehensive record of all information needed for external financial reporting. The accounting data is complete and accurate because the SAP system fully integrates all business transactions that were entered from all the operational areas of a company. In addition to the FI and CO modules, the SAP system includes the Investment Management (IM), Sales and Distribution (SD), Materials Management (MM), and Human Resources (HR) modules.
Management accounting tools in SAP R/3 are cost center accounting, internal orders, product costing, and activity based costing, profitability analysis and profit center accounting.
SAP R/3u2019s accounting features are modeled on German approaches to accounting, and thus they are well-organized and very efficient in processing accounting information and providing accounting statements and financial reports.
As stated previously, R/3 offers multiple currency features and a three-tier system that is capable of meeting very high demands from the accounting system for either transaction processing or financial reporting.
SAP was the first to implement integrated treasury capabilities. This attractive feature allows a corporate treasury department to function as an in-house bank by automating the control of cash flow, investment trades, and portfolio management.
R/3 provides check writing capability in its Accounts Receivable component which very few other programs offer.
Additionally, there is equal access to all data in the system. This means that personnel can access financial data directly from a computer screen rather than physically meet with the treasurer, controller, or some other similar person. In other words, R/3 offers real-time, immediately updated reporting.
R/3 also provides for a "single data entry point" where the data entered from any location is instantly sent to all other appropriate modules in the ERP system.
The accounts payable component of SAP R/3 contains four types of transaction blocks namely:
    ● The audit block● The receiving block● The vendor block● A manual block
These blocks make it much less likely that improper payments will occur.
SAP R/3 is organized with the concept that a business operates as a series of processes, which means that the company implementing R/3 may have to change and reorganize itself to properly fit with R/3 and use it effectively.

    Best Regards,
    Pedro M. D. Pereira

    Hi all,
    Synchronous integration
I disagree either! SYNC comms are cool
    User Interface Integration scenario
I don't agree totally, i think it depends from what people want to do, per eg: In a B2B scenario, where Portal needs to acess an application, which is outside the company, i think communication should't be direct.
Web Service interface of backend application
I don't disagree totally, if in a company exists only one or two servers... :P. Normally when i hear something like that, it comes from people, who still have some resistance about PI and midlewares in general...If there is only one scenario or two, well, who cares about a middleware, why spending money on it. However, if you have complex architectures, several applications, multiple scenarios, obviously a middleware adds a lot of value, and if a company already has it and pays for it, why not to use it?
    Any more opinions?
Naresh, why do you say PI is not unicode compatible? Can you open a thread with an example?

  • Recommendation on a good book on replenishment (DRP) using SAP SCM 5.0

    Hi,
Appreciate that anyone can recommend a good, solid book on replenishment planning using SAP APO.
We don't find that SAP's documentation is helpful on replenishment planning of the global supply network, and it dos not seem to have a thoughtful design and well defined process. e.g. transport and shipment scheduling under the gATP documentation, which is clearly designed for sales order taking, and vaguely mentioned that the process can be apply for STR/STO. To me, it does not seem that author fully understand the entire supply chain planning process, from planning to execution in this regard. Another example, SAP documentation says that PP/DS heuristic can plan STR, but when you use it, then you realized that you really can not combine shipments and the planning process and execution are completely falling apart, as the scheduling dates, such like MAD, transport planning dates, pick/pack are not visible in APO nor integrated with planning process.  out of sync with R/3. If using SNP, then we realized that the SNP heuristic is too simple to deal various different supply/demand situations, and have to adopt a completely different set of tools from production planning.
We have very tightly integrated global supply chain process for manufacturing, replenishment (DRP) and customer service.  APO, having such sophisticated production planning functions, can not even handle such common marine transport planning well.  We have both liquid and solid products with transport mode being marine, rail car, truck, barge etc.  It is being a real challenge to plan our supply chain using APO.
Thank you in advance. Also appreciate anyone can share their experience.

  • Using SAP PI instead of CRM Middleware

    Hi experts,
Is it recommend to use SAP PI instead of SAP CRM Middleware.
If yes how can I do that.
I have read in forum requests that it can be implemented by using iDOC instead of BDocs.
I need a technical guideline how data (eg. Business Partner Data) can be tranferred from CRM to other ERP System.
    Thank you for help.

    Hi!
SAP PI itself is a middleware Product but very roboust and capable enough to integrate any system to any other system, either it is SAP or Non-SAP. And there are two ways to integrate other ERP System to SAP CRM using SAP PI.
    1. SAP PI will receive the message from back end ERP system & convert it to the XML format. SAP CRM receives the message using the Middleware XIF adaptor and convert the incoming XML Messages in the BDocs and the BDocs upload the data in the SAP-CRM Data base.
    2. SAP PI will receive the message from back end ERP system & convert it to the XML format. SAP CRM receives the message and using the Functional Module convert the data into the  BDocs and the BDocs upload the data in the SAPCRM Data base. In thsi situation, you need an expert ABAP Consultant to write the accurate functional Module.
The data inside the SAP_CRM System always transported in the BDocs not in Idocs. It is the BDocs data containers which transport the data from CRM Middleware to CRM Database and CRM Database upto CRM Middleware.
