Benefits of vault

Dear all,
what are the benefits of vault? and what case it can be used?

hi,
The vault is a server that can be accessed in the local network. When you save the original application file to a vault, the system assigns a new file name that is invisible. For this reason, you can only process original application files stored in a vault from the document info record.
If you control how a document info record is processed using an approval procedure ( digital signature), you must store the original application files in either a vault or archive before the digital signature is set.
Integration
You can integrate a vault in the SAP System in the following ways:
You can set up a vault in the standard SAP System where the original application files are transferred to the frontend computers via an application server.
You can also transfer the original files directly between the vault and the frontend computer using a special log. SAP recommends this method known as DVA (Direct Vault Access), because it is better for system performance reasons. DVA is not predefined in the standard system, as you need a password for the DVA user.

  • Is there a need for Aperture Vaults if I'm using Time Machine and/or SuperDuper?

    Hey all
What's the benefit of Aperture Vaults if I'm using Time Machine or SuperDuper for my regular backups?
    John

    John,
Aperture vaults are snapshots of a certain moment. So you can create a collections of vaults saved at specific intervalls, say one each year, or before you upgrade your system. If you keep your older vaults, you will be able to restore images from many years back. If your library is huge, you may only notice years later that an important image got corrupted.
Time machine backups are very convenient and you can go back in time easily, but you can never be sure, how much back in time your backup will go. You have no control over which older versions will be deleted, when TM runs out of space.
Clones are great, i.e. if you create bootable clones. This way you will be able to revert to a previous system without reinstalling. With respect to Aperture libraries cloning your library will give you the same benefits as vaults.
My experience tells me, that a mixture is good. If you can, keep three backups, and not all in the same place.
I keep one backup at my office and two at home. I have a bootable clone, a TimeMachine backup, and occasionally create a new vault.  My most important images are in my dropbox and synced to all my macs.

  • Aperture Vault Question

Okay, so I am looking to simplify my photo storage process, as I recently got Photoshop and am going to be doing more and more editing and what not.
I also have Aperture that I back up using its vault feature on my external hard drive, creating two locations for all my pictures - within Aperture and the vault on my external hard drive. Is it necessary (aka, would it be a good idea) to keep the original pictures in my home folder/pictures folder? I am hoping to free up space if not necessary.
Also, I would probably end up burning the master images to a DVD from Aperture for a third back up. I may sound paranoid about this, but I don't want to lose anything.
I'm just looking for an easy back-up process for my photos.
    Thanks!
    Josh

Also, I would probably end up burning the master images to a DVD from Aperture for a third back up. I may sound paranoid about this, but I don't want to lose anything. I'm just looking for an easy back-up process for my photos.
You do not sound paranoid, just prudent. The essence of competent digital photography is multiple redundant backup.
Your Managed-Masters-Library and Vault workflow is fine now but only in the short term because hard drives slow as they fill and using a Managed-Masters Library image files will sooner or later overfill the internal hard drive unless completed Projects with Masters are constantly purged from Aperture but that is inappropriate workflow for most photogs, and the benefits of using a Managed-Masters workflow are minimal.
I recommend to Manage by Reference with Master image files stored on external hard drives. Especially important for iMacs and laptops with a single internal drive. The workflow as described below uses a Referenced-Masters Library.
I feel pretty strongly that card-to-Aperture or even camera-to-Aperture handling of original images puts originals at unnecessary risk. I suggest this workflow, first using the Finder (not Aperture) to copy images from CF card to computer hard drive:
    • Remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into a memory card reader. Faster readers and faster cards are preferable.
    • Finder-copy images from memory card to a labeled folder on the intended permanent Masters location hard drive.
    • Eject memory card.
    • Burn backup hard drive or DVD copies of the original images (optional recommended backup step).
    • Eject backup hard drive(s) or DVDs.
    • From within Aperture, import images from the hard drive folder into Aperture selecting "Store files in their current location." This is called "referenced images." During import is the best time to also add keywords, but that is another discussion.
    • Review pix for completeness (e.g. a 500-pic shoot has 500 valid images showing in Aperture).
    • Reformat memory card in camera, and archive originals off site on hard drives and/or on DVDs.
Note that the "eject" steps above are important in order to avoid mistakenly working on removable media/backups.
Also note with a Referenced-Masters Library that use of the "Vault" backup routine backs up the Library only, not the Masters. Masters should be separately backed up, IMO a good thing from a workflow and data security standpoint.
External drives that are not eSATA (or at least FW800) decrease speed, so your Aperture Library should stay on the internal drive.
When using Referenced Masters the Library does not actually hold the large Master images themselves. That way even a laptop drive can hold an Aperture Library of 100,000 images by referencing Master images that live on external drives. To store Master images by "Reference," in Aperture when you go to Import on the right hand side of the import window you must select "Store files in their current location."
Note that by sizing Previews carefully (I suggest creating Previews manually and only during down time, and sizing to the pixel dimensions of the laptop display) all images can always be viewed on the laptop even when the Masters are off-line.
    Good luck!

  • Time Machine vs. Aperture Vault

Is the vault the same size and contains all the information as the aperture library? What is the difference between the two packages? Are they essentially one in the same?

    *ONE: re: ... previews on/off?*
Turning previews off means that you will not easily be able to share your photos with other applications -- instead, you'll have to export each one you want to share whilst in Aperture and manage it separately.
If you turn previews on, then a) you'll get a faster view of your images when browsing through them in Aperture, b) you'll be able to share them with iLife, iWork and other applications *even if you're not currently running Aperture*
True, they do seem to take up CPU whilst you're working in Aperture AND they take up disk space too. I'd say that if you're a pro-photographer who will only every share a photograph after you've extensively post-processed it and you have a beefy, 8-core system, then go ahead and turn them off.
If you're like me and enjoy the benefits of adding my Aperture photos to Mail and screen-savers, etc., or, like me, you're using a MBP and have your masters off-line and would occasionally like to have access to some of your images even when your masters are off-line and since you 'only' have a dual-core processor, you'd like to navigate your photos with decent-res images showing quickly (regardless if your masters are on-line), then turn previews on.
    *TWO: ...relocate masters?*
If you DL your images from your camera from within Aperture and put them into a reference library, then "yes", this is ultimately the same process as loading them directly into Aperture, then later 'Relocate Masters'.
I use the latter process because I find that it really takes a few days after a shoot until I'm finished with my first pass of post and keywording, etc. With the images on my MBP, I can do this all a bit faster than if I had to access them through even a Firewire disk. Also, I can finish my workflow process from anywhere. Then after a few days, I use the Relocate Masters function to move them to their final resting place. After this point, I must have this Firewire disk mounted to re-edit something, and it is slightly slower, but this is a minor-inconvenience to having my hard disk crammed full with GB's of images. Safer too, because my Firewire disk is fully backed up (Thanks Time Machine!)

  • Can you Import  albums/matadata from a vault to a new library ?

After using ver3.01 for a few weeks and getting comfortable with it, I converted & upgraded several older managed libraries. All went well except for the last one. There must be some corrupted images somewhere in that 200Gig Library, for all the horror stories I read about on this forum materialized - The endless hours, the spinning beach ball, the crashes etc.
Since I had backed up this Library with vaults ( I was not able to rebuild from the vault either ), I knew that by RIght Clicking on the Vault and "show package content" I could access & rescue the projects individually. That worked and here I come to the part I could not successfully complete -import an existing album to a new library.
Where I had both projects and albums residing inside a folder - I could move the projects to a new Library, but not the Albums. Is there a way to do that ?

I would say no. I have an Ipad2 with the connection kit. A recent Sony camera which works fine in imovie for my 27" imac, but nothing with the Ipad. Only thing that it finds are pictures that can be made with the same video camera. Apple wrote a note aboit probkmes with importing, but i'm very disappointed with what i have right now.

  • Benefits of SAP Business Warehouse Reporting compared with the Query-tools?

    Hello experts,
I've been creating reports with SAP Query tools, but been faced with few problems. First of all, there are restricted possibilities in terms of joining tables, and thus I cannot include all the data required for the report.
One solution for this would have been to create separate queries and join the data together in Excel. The problem with this is that there exists no common field that would make sense as for a selection criterion. If the selection criterion is different in different queries, there is the danger of combining false data together, which would eventually result with distorted data.
So I was wondering, could anyone briefly tell me if SAP Business Warehouse reporting would solve these problems? And what other benefits would it provide compared with the SAP Query? I'd urgently need to know if it would be a beneficial investment for the company, since I haven't found solutions for the problems occurred in the creation of reports.
Thank you in advance for you help!
    Maria

The answers are yes - and thousands of companies have gone down this route
Puttingin BW is a strategic aim of the comapny and not to be thought about and discussed in a BI forum such as this
The costs of implementation and hardware will no doubt make your eyes water.
To be quite honest SAP BI is a "no brainer" as most of the new e-SOA and new R3 modules reply on BW for their reporting needs

  • How do I use the remote wipe feature for file vault 2 / lion?

I tried to find a preference panel. I know that for the ios you have to link/setup your device. I tried the find my iphone web site to see if my computer was listed there and it isn't at the moment. Is this new lion feature only available later with icloud? I checked the lion feature page and it lists it with file vault 2 with no asterisk so my guess is it should already now work.
It would be a pity to think you've setup your computer to find out that you hadn't "activated" your computer/laptop
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I'm out of the country on business but probably the only way to figure this out is to call apple or drop by their retail stores. If no one figures this out (and I'm pretty sure there is nothing to figure out at this time). I'll try to call apple when I'm back in august.
I find it wrong that apple touts this as a feature with no disclaimer. I'm a loyal mac fan for twenty years so I'll continue to buy their prodcuts and I did buy lion the day it came out. BUT a disclaimer (as they have done in the past) would have been nice. I know of at least two mac users who usually don't buy new OS's until they get it with their new laptops that specifically bought lion for this feature since they had read about it in a newspaper article.
I also thought this was one of the more useful features in lion since my family already "lost" an iPad and we liked to delete our data after our alarm and message didn't work for a day.
I'm sure  apple has it's reasons for not offering the feature just yet but in that case a disclaimer is a must. I would probably drop the reference remote wipe until I have the infrastructure in place.
    Cheers,
    Phillyman

  • How do i consiolidate my photo masters in Aperture 3. I have a vault from Aperture 2 but 3 will not access it.

I use Aperture for photo editing and management and had been working in Aperture 2. I created a vault on my external HD to store my masters in. I had done something to my computer (not sure what) and ended up wiping my internal HD and reinstalling all of my software. After that I was not able to access my vault so most of my masters are basically gone. I attemped to move them with no luck. Frustrated by this point I upgraded to Aperture 3 thinking it would help me be able to get into the vault only to find out that 3 can not consolidate 2 vaults. I do not know what to do at this point but am really bummed to think that my masters may be gone forever. A hard way to learn that nothing in more secure than just saving the photos to DVD prior to Aperture...
Can anyone give me a clue on how I can recover my masters?

I don't have Aperture 2 so that I could check, but Aperture 3 vaults in  Mt. Lion do show the version number in the Finder, like this:
I will put Aperture 2 on another machine and that work on restoring the vault from there,
If you did all available upgrades and your vault is recent, it probably will have been created with the latest available Aperture upgrade, AP 2.1.4.
If you can restore the library this way, back it up, and then rebuild it, before moving it to your SL machine. To rebuild an Aperture library, hold down the Option and Command keys while opening your library in Aperture 1.5 or 2, then click the Rebuild Now button..

  • Certain master images are gone: how do I use my backup vault to restore?

Images stored in a folder (the little blue book icon) named Dogs is suddenly empty. Apparently the Masters are gone too. I have searched through the Library, in the original project, by date. They are gone.
(I think I know how I lost them — by renaming other images accidently keyworded as Dogs.)
But the issue is: how do I get back these images?
I have the Library backed up to a Vault on a dedicated external FW hard drive. I have read the posts about restoring the library, but am terrified to make a misstep, with all my images at risk.
I would very deeply appreciate advice on how to proceed — that is, use the vault to restore the lost images.
    Thank you very much.
    17 " Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2GB 1.67MH
    17 " Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2GB 1.67MH

Choose File>Vault>Restore Library. Aperture will show you an alert that your old library will be renamed. If this is OK click restore. After the restoration is complete Aperture will prompt you to relaunch Aperture. After relaunch you'll see another dialogue box. If everything is OK click Recover Now. The next feedback you'll get is Recovery Complete. Click OK and you're done.

  • Audit Vault Installation problem on windows platform

    Hello!
I'm trying to install Audit Vault 10.2.2 on windows platform. The installation procedure is successfull (there are no alerts about errors during installation). The enterprise manager is working at http://localhost:1158/em without any problem.
The installation guide says that audit vault console should work at http://localhost:5700/av, but this site is unreachable.
I tried to find out the problem, so I started avctl show_av_status
    The result is:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Exception: Invalid Oracle JDBC url
    at oracle.av.avca.Commandarguments.setOracleProperties (Commandarguments.java:281)
    at oracle.av.avca.Commandarguments.processArguments(CommandArguments.java:667)
    at oracle.av.avca.Avctl.startCTL(Avctl.java:70)
    at oracle.av.avca.Avctl.main(Avctl.java:318)
(avctl start_av results the same problem)
Could you help me to solve this problem? Please!

I'd like to help you but it seems to me, from the perspective of the purpose of Audit Vault, that putting a secure repository on top of an insecure operating system is a non sequitur.
Thus all of my installs have been on Oracle Enterprise Linux and I've never seen any installation-related issues such as you are reporting.
If you can I would suggest getting, as they say, "a real operating system."
Performance will improve, hardware utilization will improve, security will improve, and as an additional advantage, this issue will disappear.

  • UK Payroll (Year End HMRC Return - Taxable Benefits)

    Hi Payroll Experts,
Please look in to below issue any ideas and solutions plz revert back to me ASAP.
On the employees expenses and benefits form P11D, section F, which is cars and fuel is not calculating right.  It seems to be tided up with the amount paid by employee for private use of the car.  Some the figure does not appear and others it's taking off the lump sum payments from the lease car payments, which it should not.  Lump sum payment seems to calculating right under section E.
    Ex:
    The numbers are as follows
1111    (xxxx)    Lease deduction of £490.83 not appearing in box  (amount paid by employee for private use)
Therefore the cash equivalent of each car amount is wrong  it should read  £174.
2222    (yyyy)   Lease deduction of £721.04 not appearing in box  (amount paid by employee for private use)
It is showing  £438.04   It seams that the lease deduction has been reduced down by the lump sum payment.  (721.04-283.00  = 438.04)
Therefore the cash equivalent of each car amount is wrong  it should read  £1288
    Thanks & Regards

    HI Gita,
Let us start from the beginning.
    1) Is Company Car Infotype maintained for the two employees? Company Car INfotype is 0442. It used to be 222 earlier. If you are using anything newer than 4.5 B, this is likely to be 0442 in your case?
    2) If yes, is the following field maintained - "Regular Payments". This field is found in the "Price and Benefit" tab of IT 0442.
    3) If the field is maintained, is this payment being processed in Payroll? If you are not the person who built this system, you must ask the person who did or refer to any documentation such as BUsiness Blueprint or Configuration Document to identify this wagtype. You can also simulate a payroll and look into the log to identify which wagetype is being used. A simple  way is to glance through the RT and find a wagetype with the exact amount entered in this field. You will need to confirm by running various tests by changing the value etc.
    4) If you find the wagetype, can you please check in table v_512w_d to see whether Cumulation Class 34 is flagged for this wagetype.
All the above will help find out what is wrong, but to rectify it may be slightly difficult at this stage as you have very little time before the due date for submission of P11D. Depending on what you find, it may be necessary to run a payroll to fully rectify. Do you have time to run another payroll before July 19th?

  • How to delete projects from Vault

    Ok, here is the issue.
I work remotely on a laptop and my main library and vault are on my home computer.
I only keep the last couple of projects on the laptop and use the vault to backup those projects. I used managed files.
When I get home from the road, I export/import the projects to the home machine and master library to do further work and use vault on an external for backup.
So, on the laptop, I will delete projects to make more space on the hdd and I dont need them on the laptop any longer (they are already in the master library and vault at home).
However, the problem is that when I delete those projects and then update the vault, it does not seem to delete those projects in the vault. So the vault just keeps growing in size until it fills up and I cant seem to delete those projects from the vault. Again, both the laptop library and the laptop vault are simply for backup while on the road so I'd like to have the vault on the portable be able to stay synced with the library on the laptop. When I delete a project, it does the same in the vault to keep the external space consistent as well.
Is there any way to do this? Shouldnt the vault basically just back up the library and when something is deleted from the library it should be deleted from the vault as well?
As it is, I need to delete the entire vault when it fills the external and create a whole new one after deleting the projects from the library.
    Is there an easier way?

I have not contacted AppleCare, but will if this is how its working for others.
Have you tried this and are sure it is working that way? After all, last week after deleting three projects from the laptop and main library and then updating the vault, I had a vault that was over 80 gigs in size while the library was now less than 20 gigs in size.
After deleting the vault and starting a new one, the new vault was approximately the same size as the library, actually slightly smaller like it is with the master vaults at home with the main library.
I have twice now had my external fill up with the vault while I had been constantly deleting old projects on the laptop. So it just seemed to keep adding new stuff to the vault, but not get rid of the old that I was deleting.
