Benefits to upgrading WLC from 4.1.185.0 to more recent release?

I currently have 3-4402 WLC controllers running 4.1.185.0.  We have 45 APs that are spread out between 3 locations.  Because I am new to wireless management on Cisco WLCs I need to know if there is a benefit to upgrading to more current code revisions.  We currently have a mesh bridge running on two 1030 indoor APs.  These are not supported on newer code releases, so I am looking for benefits great enough to warrant purchasing two new bridging APs that are supported on current code revs.  Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.  The current code is working fine and we are not doing any Wireless VOIP either.

Well if your system isnt broken I am a fan of leaving it alone. Now if their are issues or if you need new options that are only in newer versions then that should be reason enough. You are on code that is like 2 - 3 years old.
If you choose to deploy 802.11n, it will require an upgrade
If you plan to deploy MESH you need to upgrade
You can take advantage of new reporting with newer code and wcs versions
If you do have issues in the future, TAC will almost likly TELL you to upgrade anyway
I hope this helps a little bud

No, you're not entitled to a new MacBook.  If I wanted the newest one, I'd sell the one I just bought and buy a new one.

There is no Pro's going thru Windows Server 2008 and then to Windows Server 2012. Extend the schema for Windows Server 2012,
Disable EDNS on Windows Server 2012 DCs if they are not using forwarders for external name resolution, you might want to enable
DES-Only Encryption as this is disabled by default starting with Windows Server 2008 R2, you may also want to disable
SID Resource Compression if any if your applications doesn't support this.

  • Restore from an old iTunes backup but preserve recent app data

I may need to restore from an iTunes backup that is several months ago, and I'm trying to figure out if there's any way to preserve the newer app data that gets synced to iTunes.  Obviously it's not an issue for apps that store data in the cloud, but for my apps that store data on the device, when I sync *after* restoring from an old backup, will the more recent app data that *presumably* is on my computer in iTunes overwrite the old app data now on the phone?

    Try this:

Yes, if you restore from backup all the old dats gets erased.

  • WLC upgrade up from 5.1.151 https problem

    Hi,
I  'm trying to upgrade WLC 4402 up from 5.1.151. After upgrade to 5.2 or higher https  interface is inaccessible. If I use any other previous version, all is  OK. Somewhere I found  recomendation to open http before upgrade and use it at first. It  works, but what to do next? To stay on http only?

Ive upgarded more than my share of WLCs and I cant say I ever had this problem. Is http/https enabled and did you save the config ?

  • Upgrade WLC 5508 to 7.4.121.0 problem

After I upgraded WLC 5508 from 7.2.111.3 to 7.4.121.0, all 3602i APs don't associate with the controller.  All APs were working/associating with controller on 7.2.111.3 at same setting.  IP address of APs are setup as DHCP.
The error message is "AP couldn't get IP address".
Any one has this type of problem when you upgrade WLC 5508 from 7.2.111.3 to 7.4.121.0.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
This doesn't look like software issue.
You have to check why the APs are not able to get ip address. Try connecting a PC to a swtich port where one of these APs are connected and see if you are able to get IP on PC.
Also check if the DHCP server is reachable and if there are IP address in the pool assigned for APs.
    HTH,
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Benefits for upgrading to CS5 for InCopy and InDesign workflow?

We have been using InDesign/InCopy CS4 for more than a year now. I have CS5 for my Mac but the InCopy users are all on PC's and we have not yet purchased the upgrades for them. Needless to say I am still using CS4 with CS5 waiting in the wings.
What would be the benefits of upgrading all the In/Copy users to CS5?   I need to justify the purchases.
    Thanks you,
    Holly

Hi Brian, CS5 is not cross-platform software so you can't run on both platforms at once - you have to choose one or the other...
It is fairly straightforward though to switch or "crossgrade" from Windows to Mac.
See this other thread for more information on use of the older version when upgrading:

  • Benefits to Upgrading to Extreme

Are there benefits to upgrading to an Extreme Base Station, if the connected computer does not have an Extreme card? I have a G4 Titanium Powerbook, and I have frequent intermitant problems with the airport dropping for anywhere from a second to thirty seconds, occasionally more. I do a lot of things that require an uninterrupted connection (telnet, ftp, etc., as well as AirTunes) and its rather frustrating. I would like to improve this, and one of the ways I'm considering is to add another Airport Express to boost the signal - in a steel & concrete building, perhaps the signal is getting weakened. However, the most common time for it to drop is when I am typing, as my hand coveres the airport card. I believe this computer is old enough that the card is not Extreme. So my question is whether the Extreme base station is only useful in increasing the speed (combined with an extreme-enabled card), or if it might also improve the strength of the connection, even with a non-extreme card. Thanks! (any other ideas also appreciated)

Are there benefits to upgrading to an Extreme Base
Station, if the connected computer does not have an
    Extreme card?
    Yes, you can use WPA.

If this is the case it sounds more like an interference issue.

Yes, but you can't upgrade an Airport card to an Airport Extreme card.

    No it won't.

  • Upgrading WCS from 4.2.62.11 to ?

    Hello All,
I recently purchased 6 1142 AP's and added them to my controller, well since these are not LWAP but instead CAPWAP AP's they were not supported by my WLC with code version 4.2 (not the end of the world) so I upgraded the WLC to code 6.0.182 but had to sacrifice managing it from my WCS.
Now I would like to upgrade my WCS to support managing this WLC again and potentially upgrading my remaining WLC's, the thing is I would like to upgrade to the latest WCS version 6.0.132 but need some input as to the ease of upgading, and/or any potential problems that might surface, or if anyone is currently experiencing any issues using this WCS code. Will 6.0 be the best bet or is it sufficient to step up to 5.2? Are you satisfied with this upgrade? How many WLC and AP's are you managing? Is there anything I need to consider that isnt written in the Cisco documentation?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You do need WCS 6.0.132.0 to manage your 6.0.182.0 WLC.
To upgrade, its easy, just make a backup of your db, run the installer of 6.0.132.0 and you will be all set. There are not really issues in the upgrade and this should go smooth.
WCS 5.2 will not support your WLC running 6.0

  • Upgrade wlc 2106 for mesh

    Hi,
I want to upgrade my WLC for meshing network. The last release is 4.1.192.22M but in the release note it's write 4.1.192.17M in the upgrade path ...
Another point is that the release 4.1.190.5 isn't present int the download section.
What's the path for the upgrade ?

    You can follow the upgrade path in the release notes. 4.1.185.0 - 4.1.190.5 - 4.1.191.24M - 4.1.192.22M.
I just checked and 4.1.190.5 is located under the Mesh Code link for the controller, All Releases, 4.1

  • Upgrading WLC 4400

    Hi,
How is the correct steps for the upgrade of the WLC4400 from a version 4.1 to 4.2 version?
I backup the configuration running in the version 4.1.
I download, and put the file of the Software 4.2 in the TFTP directory.
I start the transfer from the TFTP to WLC.
    The copy was succesfull.
I restart the WLC and Save the config.
But, the WLC lost the configuration (running the version 4.2), I connect to the console port and this showed the Wizard to start the initial configuration :S
What is the correct steps to upgrade WLC.

  • Steps to update a 4402 WLC from 4.2 to latest 7.x

    Greetings,
We need to upgrade a 4402 wlc from 4.2 where it is now, to the most recent 7.x release.  I believe this is a 2 step process.  Does anybody know the correct steps to upgrade to?  Obviously we can't just jump straight to 7.x
    Thanks in advance!
    -Zach

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn7_0_116_0.html#wp233853
If you read the release notes a little more carefully, you will also see the following:
    4.2.130.0 or earlier 4.2 release
Upgrade to 4.2.176.0 before upgrading to 7.0.116.0.
    4.2.173.0 or later 4.2 release
You can upgrade directly to 7.0.116.0.
Note If you upgrade from 4.2.176.0 to 7.0.116.0, the upgrade fails for the first time. The upgrade completes successfully when you upgrade again.
    4.2.209.0 or later 4.2 release
You can upgrade directly to 7.0.116.0.
Just keep the above in mind depending upon your 4.2 release.

  • Sometimes my computer takes too long to connect to new website. I am running a pretty powerful work program at same time, what is the best solution? Upgrading speed from cable network, is it a hard drive issue? do I need to "clean out" the computer?

Many times my computer takes too long to connect to new website. I have wireless internet (time capsule) and I am running a pretty powerful real time financial work program at same time, what is the best solution? Upgrading speed from cable network? is it a hard drive issue? do I only need to "clean out" the computer? Or all of the above...not to computer saavy.  It is a Macbook Pro  osx 10.6.8 (late 2010).

Almost certainly none of the above!  Try each of the following in this order:
Select 'Reset Safari' from the Safari menu.
Close down Safari;  move <home>/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db to the trash; restart Safari.
Change the DNS servers in your network settings to use the OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
Turn off DNS pre-fetching by entering the following command in Terminal and restarting Safari:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
