BES 5.01 MR1 and GW 8.0.1 HP1 or 8.02

Hello:
I'm in the process of migrating our current environment of BES 4.1.6/ GW 8.01 to BES 5.01 MR1. I believe the current version of GroupWise is 8.01, not 8.0.1 HP1. How do I confirm this? The GroupWise engine (GWENN5.NLM) is 8.00.01 dated August 25, 2009.
Has anyone had any issues with 8.02 with BES 5.01? RIM still recommends 8.0.1 HP1 in its compatibility matrix although 8.02 is supported.
Should I upgrade to 8.0.1 HP1 or 8.02?
All feedback welcomed.
Thanks

If you already have BES 5 started, the newest HP2 release today will fix the
dreaded SOAP maxed out threads, I have been running a unreleased HP2 code
for almost a month and have not had any issues with SOAP threads maxing out.
This release of GW 8 SP2 HP2 was given to RIM more than a week ago so that
they could certify it with BES 5 but I haven't heard if they have yet.
I believe contact sync from BES to GW hasn't been fixed yet but that's a
patch that RIM has to offer for their BES.

  • How do I Sync Email with BES and Calendar-Contacts-Tasks-Notes with BDS?

I have a Storm that I sync with our BES just for email and I want to sync my calendar, contacts, etc.. with the Blackberry Desktop Software.  First I was only able to sync my contacts... not my calendar.  Second, everytime I sync I lose my ability to send and receive email from my Storm and have to have our BES admin resend my service books to me so I can sebd abd receuve email again.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

Did you install the desktop manager in blackberry enterprise or blackberry internet mode? I'm guessing it might be the latter, and it could be changing your servicebooks because of that... If it is installed for blackberry internet service, try removing it and installing it for blackberry enterprise service (this is a choice during installation).

  • Browser on 8310 SmartPhone Edge comes up with Critical Error and cannot be used, help please?

Hi, my name is Sater and I'm the lone I.T. guy for a small medical device company (about 40 ppl) based in Fremont, CA.  So...
All of a sudden my vp of marketing comes in and says that he can't use the Browser function on his BB (8310 SmartPhone Edge) anymore.  Naturally I'm intrigued, but this is a very strange error that pops up.  It doesn't matter how many settings I go in and change, there's no budging it.  Here is what it's telling me...
"Unable to connect to the selected Mobile Data Service, please try again later.  If the problem persists please contact your administrator."
So I decide after about an hour of messing with settings and getting nowhere to call AT&T support.  They said when that error comes up with "please contact your administrator", it's because it can't connect to the BES server anymore and that we would have to consult that with whomever runs that server.  To give you a little background, we went through an outsourced Exchange provider called TheMessageCenter.com. They were alright, but my VP of R&D was pretty bent by some of the lack of customer service skills they presented to him when he was in an email crisis.  Needless to say one of the very first missions I ever had at this place was to find a new email solution and integrate the migration.
So basically AT&T said they couldn't do anything and that I would have to contact our outsourced providor (TheMessageCenter.com, since we ran both Exchange and BES through them before we switched) back to get the settings cleared off the BES server hosting his phone Pin and info.  I called them up, (mind you we had been away from TheMessageCenter.com for a good couple weeks now) and they claimed they had no other active processes running for our company anywhere on their BES servers or frankly, ANYWHERE lol.  So naturally he's looking at me to fix this, and I am seriously stumped!  Should I do some kind of Factory reset?  If so, how can I load all his contacts/settings back the way he had it?  Any help on this matter, (especially if treated as urgent... I know you hate to hear that, but I said it for all you I.T. guys haha) would be GREATLY appreciated!!  Thanks

    Hi,
The browser icon uses the BES service, unless you have signed up for the BIS ONLY servcie, wherein you get access to the internet through RIM's servers.
Since your servcie is a BES servcie the access to the internet is through the BES.
The MDS is a service running on the BES to authenticate you. (and thus the error)
So, No BES = No  Internet access using the Browser icon!
So, I need a little clarificatuioin.
Did you move from one BES to another? Or did the user simply switch carriers?
It sounds as if you moved from one third company BES to another third company BES... Is that right?
If so then contact your New BES and ensure that they allow ppl to use the MDS servcie for internet access (Most companies charge extra for that feature! - Because they can!).
If your hosting the BES (Now), and it was Themessagingcentre.com before, then you need to Reactivate the Handset for the  new BES. I have a feeling that he is now getting the emails through the BIS service and the handset wasnt wiped and so it is stil trying to access the old BES....
So can you please give details such as:
BES - where was it hosted:
BES - where is it now hosted:
NEW BES: Is the MDS service enabled and can people currently use it to browse?
Have you tested with other BB handsets to ensure you/user  are clicking the same icons on both handsets (most ppl do different things to access in their own way, so simply asking them if it works doesnt help!)
The alternative is to use the expensive WAP browser. It will work but will rack up huge charges.
Let us know how it goes...

  • Questions on wiping and Backup

I have a user who needs to wipe their BB.  I want them to use Desktop Manager to backup everything.
Will the it backup even photos they have on the unit?

Yes...BES changes everything...the timing of things becomes more critical so that you don't accidentally wipe out things in the Messages database, especially if the user has any BIS email accounts configured... Let me remember how I used to do it with BES...it is important that device radios (both carrier and WiFi) remain OFF between steps 1 and 7:
    Turn off all device radios
Backup (local to BB) BBM Contacts (not relevant if you restrict use of BBM via IT Policy)
Backup with Desktop Software -- full
Mass Storage Mode copy of Media Card and Device Memory
    WIPE
Restore from Desktop Software -- SELECTIVE...only perhaps the configuration-type databases, but for sure NOTHING that BES will populate (contacts, calendar, etc.). If the user has BIS email accounts, then include the Messages database. Depending on what the reason for this drastic action is, you may indeed want to not restore anything...just in case something that you restore is the cause of whatever the problem was.
Turn on device radios and reactivate (as necessary) on carrier network
Reactivate with BES -- wait until this is 100% complete before proceeding (use WiFi if you can...it will be much faster).
Validate that all things are OK -- BES could have had copies of even configuration items...if so, it will have overwritten what was restored in 6 above...but that should be OK as they should have been accurate as of the last time BES mirrored those databases from the BB
If relevant, restore the BBM contacts from the file created in step 2...restore it from the PC (as copied in step 4) if necessary.
It's tricky...you want to do the restore before you allow BES to reactivate, especially if there are BIS email messages that you want to repopulate to the BB. If you allow BES to reactivate first, and then restore the Messages Database, it will replace any BES emails that came in between the two actions. Hence, the importance of keeping the device radios off (so that BES cannot reach out and auto-reactivate before you are ready).
    Good luck!

  • Facing issues with R12 and SOA 11g integration using Business events

    Hi,
I am trying to integrate R12 application with Fusion using 11g SOA suite. I configured BES in R12 application and I am able to raise a business event and query it from WF_BPEL_Qtab. I have an Oracle applications adapter listening for the same event in SOA composite deployed over a server. I have verified the DB connection and schema for R12 application in 11g SOA server. However, no SOA instance is being generated. No server log as well.
I understand that 11g SOA uses EDN (using fusion_edn schema) for business events. Are there any changes expected to be done to Oracle Apps adapter to ensure the event is received.
P.S. Oracle apps adapter configuration is probably correct as the out bound calls are taking place correctly.
    Thanks,
    Sagar

    Hi,
Can you check the log file.u are getting any error.can you check wf_error table also u are getting any error.
Can you check consumer in AQ tables.
    Thanks,

  • BI4 Mobile Configuration and Dashboards on iPad

    Hi Experts,
I'm going to deploy Business Objects Mobile behind Firewall, is there guide how to deploy it this way?
On the other hand i couldnt find any documentation about limitations about deployment. What are the differences between BES/MDS, Proxy Server and Firewall ?
I also want to clarify if iPad users will be able to view Xcelsius Dashboards, there is some 3rd party tools but isnt it comes in package?
    Thanx
    Ruben

    Ruben,
SAP currently does not provide Xcelsius support on iOS.
There is a 3rd party alternative called MyBI available, from the company EXXOVA.

  • Desktop Manager compatability with BES 5.0

    Hi
We are running BES 5.0.2 and use DM 5.0.1
Does anyone know if this is fully supported, or we are supposed to use Web DM?

    Hey Sheen,
This is compatible.  What BlackBerry smartphones will be enterprise activated?  If they are running BlackBerry OS 6, then you will need to run BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.0.

  • Blackberry, Exchange 2003 and Macbook - best solution

I am interested to hear how other people manage in a windows work environment while using a macbook and running a blackbery on a BES server. I have considered bootcamp with windows 7, parallels, fusion etc. Do most pople workin in osx and use parallels or similar to keep outlook open to enable blackbery synch etc, or do people just work exclusively in windows on bootcamp. Ideally, I wouldnt have windows at all, it is just that I cant find a way to have wireless synch of outlook and blackberry with BES server without doing this. I cant be fussed to sit and connect my blackberry to my computer (either by bluetooth or usb) to keep synching the blackberry and macbook. Any suggestions

It is in sync. All the time. Hence the BES Server.
The only thing you need to do is setup your macbook email app to access your MS Exchange account on the server.
Do you not have a desktop computer at work that allows you to view your email? Mimic the settings on your laptop. The sync happens at the email server level - not on local machines.
If you don't have a desktop computer at work, then you will need to contact your IT Admin and ask him to give you all the login settings and just plug them in to your macbook email application.
What you do on the laptop will be mirrored on your blackberry and vice versa.
As a technical note: Your blackberry is not the sync agent. The BES Server is. And BES doesn't maintain your email either. Its MS Exchange. BES only acts as a "middle-man" between your email server and the handhelds.

  • BB admin and monthly salary?

Hello,  I am working in a Company and am administering two Blackberry Servers with 96 BB Handhelds.  In addition, I am Administering some 30 Notebooks (with the purpose to lend them temporary to those traveling out of office), and some 54 Internet Data cards; and am in charge of Network documentation, assisting Helpdesk and organizing MS Office trainings for some 600 employs.  I started working in present Company in Austria some 15 months ago as IT Assistant. This month I was promoted to General Mobile Communication Manager, but the salary remained the same, i.e. 2100 euro per month (gross).  My question: how high must be the amount of BB in use in order for a company to have a fulltime Blackberry Administrator; and am I eligible to a higher better salary?  Thanks,  buzuku

It does not depend on amount of blackberries in the company. A company may have 100 blackberries and do not need a BB Admin. Another one may have 10 devices but need three admins for 24/7 service. There is no common answer to your question.
That's a good question about higher salary eligibility.
It depends on your skills and how are you carrying your current duties. It does not depend on BES servers, device models and something like this. Think about quality of service that you provide to your colleagues (they are your customers). Do not think about the burden that you have to carry on.

  • RIM BES Trusted App - No GUID

Having issues with adding new BB users /address books on 4.1.6.22 BES with GW7 client.
(Our GW server is GW8SP1HP1 on NW6.5SP8 with eDir 8.85)
I followed "Solving Trusted Key Issues with BB Server and ConsoleOne[" Cool Solution about generating a new Trusted App but the generated key will not paste into server's key field on BES because it is not the correct format.
So I found a few docs showing how the key is based on the RIM BES Trusted App GUID and where to find it in ConsoleOne (Tools, GW Diags, Record Enumerations, select Trusted Apps by name then Info. ).However,it seems there is no GUID to be found. I also did a search by GUID under the Record Enumerations and eventually found an object with an empty GUID that showed the RIM BES info. So it appears my system isn't creating a usable GUID for this object.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can get a usable key?

Are you installing the BES and having troubles with the key? I have only
used C1 to delete the trusted key and used the key generator provided by
RIM, it should be in: C:\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Key
Generator Application from were the installation package unpackaged the
    install.
Now it's important to run the key generator on a PC that has the Novell
client installed, so I often have copied that directory to a PC that has it
and so far I have never had any issue.
Once generated and the key copied to the prompt during installation, you
should be good to go; there shouldn't be anything you need to do after that,
if it works for one user, it should work for everyone?

  • Help with internet and email

Im new to the blackberry phones but got an unlocked storm 9500 from hong kong. i cannot find a web browser at all theres a foreign uc browser under downloads though.. how can i find/get a english web browser?? also i want to receive my emails but it wants a work email account and i dont want one for work just my email how can i fix this?

    Hi there,
First of all, are you 100% certain you got a BlackBerry and not just a fake BlackBerry?
If you are certain that you do have a legitimate BlackBerry, then it sounds like the BlackBerry was previously set up on BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server) and likely has an IT policy in place.  Here are a couple of steps that can help you get up and running.
First off, start by downloading and installing a program called BBSAK to your computer.  You can download it from here: http://bbsak.org.  Once you have installed it to your computer, open the program, and plug your BlackBerry in.  When prompted, enter your BlackBerry password (if you do not have a password installed, just press OK).  Then go to the Misc. tab and click on the Factory Reset button.  Note:  this will wipe everything, including the IT policy off the device.  If you have anything you want saved, make sure you perform a backup using the BlackBerry Desktop Software first.
Once the Factory Reset is complete, you will need to re-register the device on the BlackBerry network by going to Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Tables, press the BB Menu button and select Register Now.  You should then be able to open the Email Settings app and enter your personal email address.
Now then, if that doesn't work, then you need to check with your carrier to ensure that you have a BlackBerry data plan (BIS) on your account.  A regular data plan will not work - you need to get a BlackBerry data plan.  If you have a BlackBerry data plan, then get your carrier to resend your service books.  That should get your browser and BIS email settings to start working.
I hope that helps, but if it doesn't, or if you have further questions, let us know.
If you want to thank someone for their comment, do so by clicking the Thumbs Up icon.
If your issue is resolved, don't forget to click the Solution button on the resolution!

  • BlackBerry 8330 BES email Icon missing

I originally setup my Blackberry with Internet Web mail to my work Exchange account.  It worked and I had a message icon and a email icon.  Email form work would not arrive instantly, but would arrive.
We then installed the BES Professional at work and set up the blackberry to connect via BES.  I then would get email messages in my email folder (icon) twice; once instantly (From BES), and later I would get the same message from the Internet side.  I then deleted the Internet email account to stop the duplication; however, the end result was that the email icon disappeared leaving only the message icon.
How do I get the BES email Icon reloaded?  I have resent the service books, and reregistered.  I also reestablished the internet account; however, the BES traffic does not appear instantly as it did at first.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I found my answer on in the following Blackberry knowledge base article "See KB03151 for information about the role of service books in email account integrations with BlackBerry® Internet Service accounts. Because of the way service books function, there is no icon on the Home screen of your BlackBerry smartphone for individual email messages delivered by a BlackBerry Enterprise Server."

Depending on what your email admins face to the internet, maybe. Via BIS, a BB can integrate with most all POP, IMAP, and OWA internet-facing systems. But, it will depend on what faces the internet:
KB03119 Requirements for integrating IMAP and POP email accounts with a BlackBerry Internet Service account
KB04478 Integrate POP accounts with the BlackBerry Internet Service
KB10154 How to integrate a POP or IMAP email account through advanced integration
KB03133How to integrate a Microsoft Outlook Web Access email address on BlackBerry smartphone
Depending on what your email system faces to the internet, one of those should get you going.

I know what "WhatsApp" is, but what is "WhatsApp & Co."? In any event, WhatsApp does not require BES (I have heard others report that it does require BIS though).
