BES and Redirector

Hi,
I'm having a really hard time with this and I'm reading conflicting information.
I had a BES account but I'm no longer on the company BES. I wiped my device and everything is running fine using BIS, except no corporate email. The only two ways I can get corporate email is with a BB and using Outlook (at office or VPN). OWA is available but I have to be on the corporate network.
Today I decided to try Desktop Redirector. I uninstalled DM, re-installed and set up for redirector. I have it running, see messages pending to send/receive. The status shows as "verifying forwarding address". I did some reading and tried suggestions to correct this without any luck.
I called AT&T and they tell me Redirector still needs to be on the corporate BES; it will work with the AT&T BIS plan. RIM KB00011 also say "The BlackBerry smarthphone user account has not been added to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server." as a cause for this problem. However, from my reading on various forums, I'm seeing others say that you don't need to be on the BES, and, BES isn't required for Redirector as it works in lieu of BES. From my limited understanding, why would I even want Desktop Redirector if I was on BES?
So, if some can tell me if BES is required for Desktop Redirector or help in solving my "verifying forwarding address" problem, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Regards-Michael G.

Thanks for the suggestions.
OWA is only available on the corporate intranet so you have to log on with a VPN connection. BIS wouldn't be able to get to the internal web site. I tried just to be sure.
Yes, I read that KB. AT&T is giving me somewhat conflicting information saying that when there is a BES, you have to be enabled on it to use Redirector. That is mentioned in KB00011 as a cause for this problem (not on BES) but I've been reading others have been successful without it and it isn't needed. Seems to me why would that be a requirement when BES is wireless anyway.
Someone in another forum suggested that I still need a BES account enabled on the AT&T service; I just got off the phone with AT&T switching from BIS back to BES. I'm still not getting anywhere and have "Verifying forwarding address" in the Status box. Did a battery pull, shutdown the PC, reconnected the BB, conencted to DM and have redirector running and outlook.
Why no BES now? Corporate policy changed. I'm a contractor and this client provides me with an email address on their domain. I've had BES access for years but now they decided for BES you can no longer provide your own phone and service. I can get the client to provide me with a BB and service, but then I have to carry two devices - ok during a work day, but not off hours. That's a choice of last resort in my book.
Surprisingly, I'm finding it isn't that bad without BES. I'm using an ultalight with 3g card to check email a couple times during the day when I'm in the field. For real emergencies, they have my phone, email (corp with outlook and personal via BIS), BB Messenger and SMS so it isn't like they can't get me. I especially like not having the restrictive corp IT policy on the BB and there isn't nearly the level of distraction on off hours.
I happen to read about redirector and thought it might be nice to have. I figured I'll make a reasonable attempt to get it working. If I can' great, if not, it isn't a big deal.

  • Create a second RDS host cluster, with existing brokers and redirectors?

    We currently have a RDS 2008 R2 environment with;
    1.  Two clustered RDS broker machines with a highly available connection broker service.
    2. Two RDS dedicated session redirectors
    3.  7 RDS Host servers
    We aren't using NLB.
We connect to it through the DNS entry RDSCluster1. Now we want to create a second cluster, RDScluster2, which use the same brokers and
redirectors, but with other RDS Host servers. Is this possible with my current configuration or do I need a second set of brokers and/or redirectors?
Tried to find this on the web, but didn't succeed to find an answer or a howto about this. The two different clusters, are these the
    so called farms?

    Hi,
The broker supports multiple farms, but each dedicated redirector only supports a single farm.  What this means is if you follow your same pattern you will need to add at least 1 dedicated redirector for your new RDSH farm.
Just so you are aware, Server 2012 and 2012 R2 support Active/Active RD Connection Brokers, and the brokers serve as redirectors for the collections (a collection is like a 2008 R2 farm).  If you were using 2012 or 2012 R2 you would not need the dedicated
redirectors to achieve the same goal.

  • Synch to two desktops (BES) and a personal PC

I am a BB Bold user and think this is the best smartphone to date.  I turnd in my iPhone and just love the BB Bold.
I currently have a business connection to  BES and all works fine.  I have wireless synch for all outlook functions.  For my personal computer, I am looking to upload my music files onto the memory card but I dont want to overwiteany of my outlook.  Can I turn off email updates from my personal PC?

I am looking to do the exact same thing on my home computer. BES at work and all my media files on my personal computer. Did you just load the whole program again? Or, just the Media Manager program?

  • How do I Sync Email with BES and Calendar-Contacts-Tasks-Notes with BDS?

I have a Storm that I sync with our BES just for email and I want to sync my calendar, contacts, etc.. with the Blackberry Desktop Software.  First I was only able to sync my contacts... not my calendar.  Second, everytime I sync I lose my ability to send and receive email from my Storm and have to have our BES admin resend my service books to me so I can sebd abd receuve email again.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

Did you install the desktop manager in blackberry enterprise or blackberry internet mode? I'm guessing it might be the latter, and it could be changing your servicebooks because of that... If it is installed for blackberry internet service, try removing it and installing it for blackberry enterprise service (this is a choice during installation).

  • BES and Blackberry Bridge conflict

I have a blackberry 9810. I have configured the bridge and the data is appearing on my playbook but it is not opening. The issue was the IP policy when trying to open messages and accepting the BBM licence. I tried the reset to factory setting and the bridge worked well all data was being viewed.
My next step was to sync the Enterprise mail. once this was done using the Blackberry desktop manager the bridge returned to the state prior to the reset.
Why is this happening and how to get pass it.

Hello...and apologies for the delayed reply!
Hopefully you already have this resolved...but just in case.
From your description, this definitely sounds like a limitation imposed by the IT (not "IP") Policy, which is placed by the BES server at activation of the BB device. You need to discuss this with your BES admins, and they can seek help from other BES admins in the BES section of this site.
    Good luck!

  • Errors trying to Invoke web service using BES and SIF

Moved this up from the Integration Forum to see if I can get some visibility on it.
Description : When an invoice get's approved we need to pass on the details of the invoice and approval to the 3rd party customer.
So far I have been able to test the business event which calls the web service that writes the information to a file. However, although the file is created there is no content in the file.
So the steps up to this point
    1. Create a simple web service that takes a string as an input parameter and writes this out to a file.
    2. Locate the Approve Invoice event [oracle.apps.ap.event.invoice.approval] and add a new subscription that will invoke my web service.
I have a number of issues at the moment.
From the business event page I can test the event which writes a record to the wf_java_deferred queue. I have been able to call the service and create a file however that seems to have stopped working. Where do I look to see what's going wrong? Is the diagnostics the best place to start
If I go into Status Monitoring I can see the last Business Event test I did is now having errors when it tries to invoke the web service. The error I get is

How do I get access to the payload? I only really need 2 or 3 items at this time. Do I need to extend a seeded java function? For example in my initial tests I only want to pass across the Invoice Id so how do I get the value of this attribute out of the wf_event_t (Is this the correct object name) and into the payload that is being passed across to the service call.
    Cheers

    Hello Owen
I am experiencing the exact same issue as you are (missing payload) when invoking a web service and was wondering if you have resolved this issue or gotten any new useful information?

  • The BES and WAV file support

I understand with the newest release of BES software - WAV files are now supported - I am trying to understand the implications and applications this can ultimately support.  Particularly corporate voicemail if Unified Messaging, where messages are stored on Exchange or Lotus servers are not the storage devices.  Looking for ways to push those voicmail messages to the inbox to play as WAV files.  Thanks.

Have a small problem, I no longer use my personal BB on the BES at work so instead I want to remove my work address and put on my personal e-mail. The problem I am having is that under e-mail setup on the device I only get the option:
"I want to use a work email account with a Blackberry Enterprise Server

    Can anyone help me!

Hi and welcome to the Blackberry Forums
You need any Blackberry Data Plan with your carrier to setup the personal mails in the device.

  • I need Outlook 2010 and Redirector.. which DM version?

    I know that:
    a. To sync Outlook 2010 to a BB you need 6.x
    b. To have Redirector, you need 5.x and below
So my question is, which DM version should I get or if RIM is planning to put Redirector back?
Is it possible to have DM6.0 and an older version on the same time?
I'm curious to find out as well the reason why RIM decided to remove Redirector off DM 6.0
    Thanks

    Hey taemo,
What you know is correct.  It is not recommended to have two version of desktop manager installed at the same time and I am not sure redirector would even work if you did do this.
What is the reason that you need to use redirector?
Redirector does not support attachments, your computer needs to be on all the time, if you are away and there is a power failure your email will stop working. Definitely not the best option out there.
You could use the BlackBerry Internet Service which supports POP, IMAP, Outlook Web Access and lost of other accounts like Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail etc...
If you are in a small business environment then the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express may be an option for you.
Let us know if one of the other options work for you and we can get you the instruction on how to proceed.

  • SOAP ports with cluster setup and BES?

Okay, our cluster setup in NetWare (yes, still NetWare cluster) with Groupwise 7.0.3 we have unique TCP ports for the client/server (like 1677-something). Even though each clustered node has a unique IP and is running in protected memory.
    That being said:
We'd like to enable SOAP for use with BES and GWArchive.
    The issue/question:
Do either of these figure out the SOAP port for each PO? Or must the SOAP port be the same among all the PO's for BES to work properly?
If the SOAP port must be the same (I'm not the BES admin, so I don't know if the setup lets you specify just one port or if you can defined them per PO), can you run multiple POA on the same physical host (keep in mind, this is clustered with protected memory) and use the same TCP port # for SOAP?

I haven't used BES, but in general there's no auto-discover method for
SOAP ports, so yes they'd probably have to be the same port.

  • BES server and BM

Don't know where to post this so maybe someone can point me in the correct direction. We need to setup a BES for our CEO. How does this work with BM and filtering. I also see in Blackberry documentation you have to use a transparent proxy.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
I set up one of these some time ago. In order for the BES to 'talk' to the Blackberry network you need to know the external IP address of the SRP service. You then need to setup a stateful filter from the private to the public outgoing on port 3101, using the SRC address of the BES and the DEST address of the SRP server.
This should allow the BES to send the traffic out and the Blackberry devices to receive their updates.
We also allowed the BES, www access which means if one of our devices wants to the browse the web, it communicates with the BES, the BES goes out through BM to view the www site and return it to the device. This allows us to use our BM security to control what sites a Blackberry handheld can view...

  • Where is BlackBerry Redirector in Desktop Manager 5.0?

    Hi,
I used to have DM 4.7 and the Redirector within it. But after install the latest Desktop Manger 5.0, I can't find Redirector anymore. Could anybody let me know where it is? I need it to redirect my work emails on Outlook/Exchange server to my BB Bold 9000.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Update:
I finally find out why the Redirector was missing. During the installation of BBDM 5.0, I have to select the device was connected to BES or Redirector. If I select "personal email setup", it would not install Redirector. That's all.

  • BBerrySync for synchronizing of contacts, tasks and calendar?

Does anyone have any experience with BBerrySync (http://bberrysync.com) or other Software / Service that would allow over the air synchronizing of contacts, tasks and calendar when using BIS.  Wondering if you have found it to be safe and reliable.  BES or Redirector are not options for me.  Email is working fine for me on my Verizon Curve 8330 with BIS.  But, the Desktop Manager and USB cable for contact/task and calendar sync have been painful (crashing).

I have never used the Sync function in this regards.. but think..there is some setting like 'Who Wins ?'  Meaning, you set-up a sync between  A and B and set A wins.. then during the Sync it will not change anything on A but make changes on B as per the Data on A...will be the opposite if the setting is B wins..
...so is there any such setting available in your case ?

  • Desktop redirector

    Hi All,
I have 11 users on BES and exchange 2003. Of these 11 users 2 cannot send email from their 8120's because they are part of the DomainAdmins group. They are reluctant to set up another account to sync to as they are unable to remove their DomainAdmin permissions. I have one user who is using Desktop Manager and the redirector on his PC and it is working fine, the other user is using a laptop as his workstation and is not connected to the LAN 24/7. What I would like to do is set up one PC running Desktop Manager and the redirector for these 2 users and have them sync through an accounts set up on the exchange server both running through this one PC.  My question would be is this possible and if so how do I do it.
    Thanks

  • Browser on 8310 SmartPhone Edge comes up with Critical Error and cannot be used, help please?

Hi, my name is Sater and I'm the lone I.T. guy for a small medical device company (about 40 ppl) based in Fremont, CA.  So...
All of a sudden my vp of marketing comes in and says that he can't use the Browser function on his BB (8310 SmartPhone Edge) anymore.  Naturally I'm intrigued, but this is a very strange error that pops up.  It doesn't matter how many settings I go in and change, there's no budging it.  Here is what it's telling me...
"Unable to connect to the selected Mobile Data Service, please try again later.  If the problem persists please contact your administrator."
So I decide after about an hour of messing with settings and getting nowhere to call AT&T support.  They said when that error comes up with "please contact your administrator", it's because it can't connect to the BES server anymore and that we would have to consult that with whomever runs that server.  To give you a little background, we went through an outsourced Exchange provider called TheMessageCenter.com. They were alright, but my VP of R&D was pretty bent by some of the lack of customer service skills they presented to him when he was in an email crisis.  Needless to say one of the very first missions I ever had at this place was to find a new email solution and integrate the migration.
So basically AT&T said they couldn't do anything and that I would have to contact our outsourced providor (TheMessageCenter.com, since we ran both Exchange and BES through them before we switched) back to get the settings cleared off the BES server hosting his phone Pin and info.  I called them up, (mind you we had been away from TheMessageCenter.com for a good couple weeks now) and they claimed they had no other active processes running for our company anywhere on their BES servers or frankly, ANYWHERE lol.  So naturally he's looking at me to fix this, and I am seriously stumped!  Should I do some kind of Factory reset?  If so, how can I load all his contacts/settings back the way he had it?  Any help on this matter, (especially if treated as urgent... I know you hate to hear that, but I said it for all you I.T. guys haha) would be GREATLY appreciated!!  Thanks
    Respectfully,

    Hi,
The browser icon uses the BES service, unless you have signed up for the BIS ONLY servcie, wherein you get access to the internet through RIM's servers.
Since your servcie is a BES servcie the access to the internet is through the BES.
The MDS is a service running on the BES to authenticate you. (and thus the error)
So, No BES = No  Internet access using the Browser icon!
So, I need a little clarificatuioin.
Did you move from one BES to another? Or did the user simply switch carriers?
It sounds as if you moved from one third company BES to another third company BES... Is that right?
If so then contact your New BES and ensure that they allow ppl to use the MDS servcie for internet access (Most companies charge extra for that feature! - Because they can!).
If your hosting the BES (Now), and it was Themessagingcentre.com before, then you need to Reactivate the Handset for the  new BES. I have a feeling that he is now getting the emails through the BIS service and the handset wasnt wiped and so it is stil trying to access the old BES....
So can you please give details such as:
BES - where was it hosted:
BES - where is it now hosted:
NEW BES: Is the MDS service enabled and can people currently use it to browse?
Have you tested with other BB handsets to ensure you/user  are clicking the same icons on both handsets (most ppl do different things to access in their own way, so simply asking them if it works doesnt help!)
The alternative is to use the expensive WAP browser. It will work but will rack up huge charges.
Let us know how it goes...
