BES HA with Exchange DAG

Hi,
I’m in the process of setting up high availability for our BES servers in our environment. I’ve got a quick question about the exchange component.
I’m thinking of setting up two exchange servers will all roles in two sites. ExchSrvr1 in SiteA, and ExchSrvr2 SiteB. Ill setup AD sites, and as such, the resources in SiteB will automatically use the CAS server in SiteB (ExchSrvr2). For the mailboxes, ill
setup a DAG (probably active/passive).
So In the event the prod site (SiteA) goes completely dark, the DAG will failover, and actively mount the database on ExchSrvr2 in SiteB. On the same note, BES itself will also failover. Will BES now automatically resume mail flow and utilize the exchange
server in SiteB, or will it look for the CAS(?) server in SiteA?

Hi,
Based on my search, if you move a user account to another database within the same Database Availability Group (DAG), the BlackBerry Enterprise Server cannot connect to the user's mailbox.
So, when you fail over the DAG databases, you need to restart the BES Server.
For DAG failover, you need to change the DNS record to CAS server in DR site after you failover to DR site.
Here is a related article for your reference.

  • Upgrade of Integation Services (Windows 2012 R2) on Windows 2008 R2 with Exchange 2013 SP1 DAG fails

    Here is the scenario:
    Legacy Host: Windows 2008 R2
Guest VM: Windows 2008 R2 with Exchange 2013 SP1 DAG cluster.
After importing the VM (2008 R2 and Exchange 2013 DAG) into a 2012 R2 host (Cluster).  (copy VM files to new 2012 R2host) Everything works fine.
Then upgrading "Installation Services" (for Windows 2012 R2 host) on the imported VM runs fine with no errors to the "Restart" prompt. VM than shows: "Configuring Windows updates 32% complete. Do not turn
of your computer." Hangs there for about 20 minutes until is says "shutting down". Hangs there for 20 minutes until power off. Restart to normal start; "Preparing to configure Windows. Do not turnoff your computer." proceeds slowly
to "Configuring Windows updates 32% complete. Do not turn of your computer." hangs there again indefinite. Sometime hangs at shutdown cycle and "Configuring Windows updates 32% complete. Do not turn of your computer." indefinitely.
I moved 20 other machines from a 2008 R2 host to new Windows 2012 R2 hosts all of these machines install the 2012 R2 Integration services just fine on the 2008 R2 VM. Just the 2008 R2 VMs clustered (DAG) and Exchange 2013 SP1 do not take the Integration
    Services upgrade.
Any advise from Microsoft? I know I could decommission the DAG and Exchange machines and install Integration services on the native box before Exchange and DAG and that would sure work, but I'd rather avoid that amount of work for a simple integration layer
    upgrade.

  • Exchange 2010 server with 2 DAG servers - DAG1 and DAG2 - backup with 2 DPM servers one for each DAG server

    Hello,
Please advice, i have an Exchange 2010 server with 2 DAG servers - DAG1 and DAG2 - backup with 2 DPM servers, one for DAG1 and one for DAG2 is it possible ?

    Hi,
I confirmed with Exchange support team that DAGs could be backed up separately.
Meanwhile backup database is important if you need to recover both Exchange server settings and database. See:

  • How to install a set of mixed clustering exchange server (Coexistence between 2007 CCR cluster with 2010 DAG or 2013 DAG)

I need a mixed clustering environment that coexist 2007 CCR cluter with 2010 DAG or 2013 DAG.
Is there any step-by-step article I can refer to?

    Hi,
Do you want to know how to migrate CCR to DAG?
If you want to migrate from CCR to DAG, there are two available ways to achieve this.
One is to bring the new hardware, the other is to break and format the existing Exchange 2007 CCR Cluster to use the hardware.
Bring the new hardware, you need to install new server and configure Exchange 2010 DAG, then move mailbox from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010.
Breaking the existing Exchange 2007 CCR Cluster, you need to decommission your passive Exchange Server 2007 SP2 Node first, re-install Exchange 2010 server role on this server, and then configure Exchange 2010 DAG using this server. After that, you
can migrate mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010, remove the last Exchange 2007 server. Then add seond server to existing DAG.
Hope this is helpful to you.

Depending on what your email admins face to the internet, maybe. Via BIS, a BB can integrate with most all POP, IMAP, and OWA internet-facing systems. But, it will depend on what faces the internet:
KB03119 Requirements for integrating IMAP and POP email accounts with a BlackBerry Internet Service account
KB04478 Integrate POP accounts with the BlackBerry Internet Service
KB10154 How to integrate a POP or IMAP email account through advanced integration
KB03133How to integrate a Microsoft Outlook Web Access email address on BlackBerry smartphone
Depending on what your email system faces to the internet, one of those should get you going.

I know what "WhatsApp" is, but what is "WhatsApp & Co."? In any event, WhatsApp does not require BES (I have heard others report that it does require BIS though).

  • Use DPM to backup Exchange DAG can not see the database

    Hi,
I want to use DPM to backup Exchange DAG, but when I create the protection group, I can't open the dag to choose the database.

  • Exchange DAG and Firewall

Hopefully this is an easy question.  Thanks for taking the time to look.
At our firewall, we currently route our inbound SMTP traffic to a SPAM appliance. The appliance is being retired and we are moving to cloud based services.
My question is this: We do not have a CAS ARRAY (load balancer) basically two exchange servers in a DAG both servers housing identical roles. At the Firewall level, if I currently have the inbound SMTP pointed to the appliance, once the appliance is removed,
do I point to the DAG IP or both Exchange Servers IP's?
    Thanks again.
    CM

Thanks for the replies. Yes this an Exchange 2010 environment - identical roles. All mail traffic is currently flowing correctly. If I am hearing correctly, If I have Exchange A and Exchange B (once again both identical roles) then all I need to
do is create a group object at firewall with Exchange A and Exchange B and then just change the rule to point to Exchange Group Object (Exchange A and Exchange B IP's) and that should take care of it. We already have an outbound connector to our cloud provider.
The only thing to keep in mind here is whether your firewall does any kind of health checks. If not, your firewall could try and send mail to a server that is down.
Aside from just mail flow, how are you currently load balancing client connections? If you are just using your firewall it comes back to health checks. Does your firewalls do them. If not it would send client connections to a potentially downed server.
Aside from external, how are you load balancing internally for client connections?
The recommended method is to use load balancers. Either hardware or software based. Hardware are going to be appliances either physical or virtualized such as Barracuda or KEMP. Software could be Microsoft Application Request Routing (ARR), which is free
    and plugs right into IIS.
If you have the budget, get a hardware load balancer. If you don't have the budget, use Microsoft ARR with IIS.

  • Exchange 2013 DLP with Exchange 2010 mailboxes

Ive got an Exchange 2007/2010 environment. I've been looking at Exchange 2013 and am interested in the DLP funtionality.
There are no plans to move mailboxes to Exchange 2013 but would it be possible to install an Exchange 2013 CAS/Mailbox server in my environment and route email through it to make use of the DLP ?
Current environment consists of Exchange 2010 DAG, Casarray and hub transport servers, and Exchange 2007 mailbox servers, CAS and hub transports. Mail to the internet is sent to a smarthost.
    Thank you.

    Hi Maria,
DLP Policies are actually a specific transport rule. Since the transport rules with Exchange 2010 didn’t provide such feature to monitor and check the e-mail
content, I am afraid, in theory, it’s not possible.
    Thanks,

Hello, i tried upgrading to SME 7.1 on our Exchange 2013 SP1 CU6, but when trying to configure the Exchange Server in the SME management console using the configuration wizard, it gave an error before the LUN mapping page, saying "Failed to get Exchange information for server" and "The communication object, System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel, cannot be used for communication because it is in the Faulted state.". I upgraded Snapdrive to 7.1, verfied all credentials according to the manuals, re-installed and rebooted multiple times (registry and filesystem cleaned, even tried to rename the existing SnapInfo directory, ...), stopped all other services on the server but without any change... Every time when trying to run the configuration wizard, the debug log shows no errors, lists all Exchange information and ends with the following lines:[11/18 12:51:58 155] Exit CSmeCDOExm::GetExchangeStructureInternal 0x0

  • World phone not syncing properly with Exchange on delete function

Hi, we are testing BES right now and currently have about 5 Curves and 1 world phone. The Curves work great, but the world phone will not sync the deleted item with Exchange. In other words, when an email is deleted from the device and it has been told to remove from both the device and server, it is only removed from device. When an email is deleted from Outlook, that message is not removed from the world phone. we don't have this problem with the curves and we've also tried hard resetting the device, and also tried using several different user accounts. the same problem exists every time. any ideas? we are trying to determine whether or not we will switch from treo/goodlink to blackberry and this isn't helping the cause. thanks.

i have validated that this is the case on all workd phones we are running. deleting from outlook doesn't delete from device and vice versa. not an issue with the curve however. what on earth is up with that? that is absolutely horrendous! good thing i didn't put one of these things in the ceo's hands. i'd probably be looking for a new job right now.

Same message from desktop (outlook) or OWA is ok and attach downloadable.
This is the only Q10 present in company for test so i cannot compare to others BB.
All other users connected to the exchaneg server have iphone & ipad no issue result. Email service seem ok also for desktop.
Firmware was updateted about 10 day ago.
    Any idea for me?
    Thanks

    Hi marcottt,
Could you provide more detail please so I can better assist?
Do you have this issue with all attachment types? If not, what type of attachment are you having this issue with and what size is the attachment?
What happens when you try to forward the message? Is any error received?
Does removing and re-adding the email account make any difference?
I look forward to your response.

  • Edge 2013 sp1 with exchange 2010 organisation.

    Dear reader,
I have an exchange 2010 sp3 organisation with 1 client access server with hub transport and a 2 node DAG. Can I install a stand alone exchange 2013sp1 Edge role on a seperate machine in DMZ and subscribe the exchange 2010 hub transport to it. This
in preparation to move to exchange 2013sp1 later this year. The current exchange 2010 edge role is installed on a TMG 2010 machine. Since TMG 2010 is dropped and we also have issues with the current edge's mailflow, i'd like to have a dedicated Exchange edge.
    Best regards,
    Ruud Boersma
    MCITP Enterprise administrator

Sure, You can install Edge of Exchange 2013 on a dedicated server in DMZ and subscribe with Exchange 2010 Transport server.
Or you can allow the Existing Exchange 2010 Edge server to serve your internet mail flow till the time you implement Exchange 2013 in the environment. I would suggest Exchange 2013 CU5 as a lot of issues were fixed in that which were identified with Exchange
    2013 SP1.

  • Exchange 2010 install with Exchange 2013 present

    Good day,
I have an Exchange 2010 SP3 instance, I then added a Exchange 2013 installation, the 2010 Exchange needs to be rebuilt due to space issues on the current host and moving the 2010 Exchange will require too much downtime.
The issues that I am running into is when installing the new instance of 2010 on the new host with the Exchange 2010 x64 SP1 ISO, I am met with the following error:
[08/22/2014 07:09:03.0912] [1] 0.  ErrorRecord: The object is read-only because it was created in a version of Exchange later than Exchange 0.20 (15.0.0.0). Current supported version is 0.10 (14.0.100.0).
[08/22/2014 07:09:03.0912] [1] 0.  ErrorRecord: Microsoft.Exchange.Data.InvalidObjectOperationException: The object is read-only because it was created in a version of Exchange later than Exchange 0.20 (15.0.0.0). Current supported version is 0.10 (14.0.100.0).
After some reading I understand that Exchange 2010 must include SP3 to co-exist with Exchange 2013, all the roles have installed without any issues except the client access role, I get the above mentioned error, thus I cant upgrade to SP3.
I came across a solution where the OAB needs to be removed and then re-created, but unfortunately this will cause too much issues as the OAB is always in use.
So I am stranded where I need 2010 SP3 to install the server, but as far as I know there is no 2010 ISO with SP3 available.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Hendrik

"So I am stranded where I need 2010 SP3 to install the server, but as far as I know there is no 2010 ISO with SP3 available."
I'm not sure I understand this? If you download Exchange 2010...
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36768
    That *is* the SP3 version.
Otherwise, if you install Exchange 2013 (with no other Exchange 2010 servers present), you definitely cannot add 2010 servers after the fact.
    http://forums.petri.com/showthread.php?t=64056
But if you started with 2010, then add 2013... I think you can add or replace 2010 servers provided they are at SP3.
What if you had lots of Exchange servers (a hosting company for example) and had to replace a server member of a DAG? Let's assume some mailboxes have been migrated to DAGs on E2K13 and some are still on E2K10.
Note: within a particular DAG you cannot have differents versions of Exchange but you could have some DAGs with E2K10 and others using E2K13.
It would seem that you would have to be able to install a new/replacement E2K10 server in this case? You could not replace it with a E2K13 server.

  • Can I sync my iPhone calendar with exchange server AND ical on my mac ?

I have been happily using my iPhone synced with my Macbook over usb via iTunes.
I have contacts and iCal syncing. I have a number of 'calendars' set up in iCal which allow me to view separate aspects of home and work but they all exist within iCal. iPhone just treats these as colour coded appointments (different colour for each ical calendar)
I really like this set up.
However, I just changed jobs to a firm where they have a hosted outlook exchange set up and I need to use the exchange calendar for work appointments and showing my availability.
I have managed to setup my iPhone to work with the Exchange server for email as well as in apple Mail on my mac. This has all worked fine. However, I hesitated when iPhone asked if i wanted to sync my contacts and calendar. I said no as I was unsure if my private calendar/contacts would be uploaded to the public work area.
In fact it seems that this is the least of my worries:
As I have read on apple support for iPhone:
"Note that after configuring an Exchange ActiveSync account, all existing contact and calendar information on the iPhone or iPod touch is overwritten. Additionally, iTunes no longer syncs contacts and calendars with your desktop computer. You can still sync your iPhone or iPod touch wirelessly with MobileMe services."
So I am really pleased that I didn't let it sync those and wipe out my personal data if that is really true.
But now I am unsure how best to enable myself to view and update the work calendar on exchange.
Also it would be nice to see work contacts on my iPhone.
    Contacts
    - although i have said no to sync contacts with Exchange in fact it looks like I can get contacts ok - when i send email from the Exchange account on the phone , it searches Exchange contacts on the server as i type in the TO box.
    - also in Contacts on the iPhone I have a new group that has been created with the name of my Exchange account. The group appears to be blank when you go into it on the phone, but you can type in the search box and get contact details from the server just fine.
This seems workable for now for my purposes, although updating contacts is not going to be possible that way.
I'd like more info on that if poss but more importantly..
    Calendar
    - Unlike Contacts, no Calendar has been auto created for Exchange
    - Unlike contacts, I can't see how I can view or search or create an appointment in my Exchange calendar on the iPhone
What is the best solution to this problem - I presume lots of people face the same dilemma. My initial research suggests that there are multiple ways round this but all of them look like workarounds with various disavantages.
    Questions are
    - Can't I just set up Exchange as one of my calendars in ical?
    - Is it really true that I have to choose between syncing Exchange with work server OR syncing iCal with personal Macbook?
    - What is the best work around for this?
At the moment I am seriously considering getting a separate iPhone for work and have that sync with Exchange fully although that seems a bit drastic and does not solve the problem of seeing work and home appointments on the same calendar.

Can't I just set up Exchange as one of my calendars in ical?
Only if you're running Snow Leopard and your employer will allow access (different than iPhone/mobile device access, so most likely not), but not needed - keep reading.
Is it really true that I have to choose between syncing Exchange with work server OR syncing iCal with personal Macbook?
No. It was true, but with the v3.0 software that changed - you can now sync your Exchange contacts and calendar over the air, and your Address Book and iCal via iTunes over the docking cable.
What is the best work around for this?
None needed. When you set up the exchange account, and choose to turn on syncing of contacts and calendars, you will be prompted to remove all other data, or keep it on the iPhone. Choose the keep option. Note that in that case, your personal data will not be uploaded to the Exchange server - the iPhone keeps them separate (although you can choose to view them in a merged fashion).
I have this set up on my phone (Exchange calendar along side personal and other calendars from iCal). Same for contacts. Works great.

  • SBS2008: Move email from Exchange 2007 to new server with Exchange 2013

We have an old server (SBS2008) and plan to buy a new server with (Server 2012). I need to move all the exchange emails, contacts & calendars to the new server. We will no longer use the old server.
Is there a document or migration tool that will help me understand how to move this data form the old exchange server to the new one?
    Old Server:
    SBS2008 running Exchange 2007
    New Server:
    Server 2012
    Exchange 2013
    Any help is appreciated!

    Hi Dave,
It can be done, and as Larry suggested you will consider two Server 2012 installs in order to achieve an environment that looks like your current SBS roles; Exchange 2013 on an Active Directory controller isn't a good long-term solution (SBS did this for
    you in the past).
For your size operation, a virtual server host, with a Windows Server 2012 license, and two virtual machines would probably be a suitable design model.  In this manner, you have Server 2012 license that permits 1 +2 licenses (one host for virtualization,
up to 2 Virtual Machines on same host).
There's no migration tool. That comes with experience and usually trial and error. You earn the skills in this migration path, and for the average SBS support person you should plan on spending 3x (or more) your efforts estimate in hours planning your migration.
You can find a recommended migration path at this link to give you an idea of the steps, but its not exactly point by point going to cover you off for an sbs2008 to server 2012 w/exchange 2013 migration.  But the high points are in here. If it looks
like something you would be comfortable with then you should research more.

Specific around integrating Exchange 2013 into an Exchange 2007 environment, guidance for that can be found here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj898582(v=exchg.150).aspx
If that looks like something beyond your comfort level, then you might consider building a new 2012 server with Exchange 2013 environment out as new, manually export your exchange 2007 mailbox contents (to PST) and then import them into the new mail server,
and migrate your workstations out of old domain into new domain.  Whether this is more or less work at your workstation count is dependent upon a lot of variables.
If you have more questions about the process, update the thread and we'll try to assist.
Hopefully this info answered your original question.
