Best 3G and RealMedia Compression?

Morning,
We've just started making 3G and RM videos for mobile phones, with limited success. So far we've gone from FCP5 and exported by Quicktime Conversion to 3G. For RM, we've had to use Helix Media Producer (Winblows Only).
When I say limited success, I mean to say that I think we can do better, and on the mac platform. We are on Tiger with Quicktime Pro 7 and Compressor 2.
Are there settings in FCP5 we can play with. We don't have to import at full dv, and we have been using 320X240 avi's. Seeing as we have no tape decks yet, we have to accept files either on DVDr or Firewire Disk.
I thought about changing the video import from YUV to RGB. Seriously, any pointers at procedures or software/plugins greatly received!
thanks in advance.

Put simply - have you any workflows for the best 3G creation?

  • One integration scenario Many target system and Outgoing compressed data

I have some theoretical questions about XI usage.
At first, I'm not quite sure about the following thing: for example we have a corporate system and a lot of mobile computers (let's name them "clients") with installed small databases. Number of clients is not constant, but integration scenario is one for all of them. Next, if we add new client we must add new technical system, business system, communication channel, configure scenario, add required receiver and interface determination, and so on and so on. If we remove client we also must do all these steps. In this case, is it possible in XI (anywhere) to automate these procedures of scenario configuration? For example create something like business system template with communication channels or have one business system and a lot of communication channels in one integration scenario (in this way I suppose that message will be delivered to target system on the message content-based routing) and quickly activate/deactivate this channels (in fact receiver determination).
At second, we know that XI can receive and send compressed data if client initiates communication with XI. Anybody know about reverse functionality, when XI initiates communication with target system and compresses data (on the understanding that target system is able to receive and handle compressed data). If anybody know that is possible - can you navigate me to this information?
    Thank you for help,
    Best regards.

    Hi Maxim,
You dont need to create techn and bus systems in SLD for your clients as you can use business services. Of course you have to create a comm channel for every client (receiver address is individual!). Receiver determination and interface determination can be configured dynmamicly with wild cards (*). You can find receivers by condition of payload content.
If you want to change this conditions very quickly (with a customizing table) you can use following trick: Use a ABAP mapping which is reading that table. Unfortunately the message is first routed and then mapped. So you have to send the message over http adapter back to XI, where the changed message is now routed by a condition. Of course a quite complex scenario, the monitoring is even more complex bcoz doubled no of messages (no performance problem - http adapter is never a bottleneck).

  • Best practices for image compression in dps

Hi! I have been reading up on best practices for image compression in dps, and I have read that the source assets of panoramas, image sequences, pan and zoom images, and audio skins are not resampled on upload. So you therefore need to resize them and compress them before dropping them into your article, because dps doesn't do it for you. Okay can do!
So then Im also reading that the source assets of slideshows, scrollable frames, and buttons ARE resampled as PNG images. Does this mean that DPS will compress them for you when you build the article? So does that mean I shouldn't bother going to the trouble of resizing these images at all? I can just pop in the 15mb 300dpi files used in the print magazine and dps will compress them upon building the article - and this will have no affect on file size?
And this is also the case with static background images?
    Thanks for your help!

All images are automatically resampled based on the size of the folio you make. You can drop in whatever resolution image you want, it doesn't matter.

  • Compression for oracle database and index compression during import of data

    Hi All,
I have a query , in order to import into oracle database and also have compression and index compression , do we have some kind of load args for r3load and also do we have to change the tpl file ?

    Hello guy,
I did this kind of compression within migration project before.
I performed index compress first and then export -> import with table compress.
One thing you should take care, delete nocompress flag from TARGET.SQL (created by program SMIGR_CREATE_DDL, program SMIGR_CREATE_DDL created pure non-compression objects for these considered non-standard tables). For table columns > 255, we should not delete this flag.
Regarding to the index compress in source system, please check the following notes:
Note 1464156 - Support for index compression in BRSPACE 7.20
Note 1109743 - Use of Index Key Compression for Oracle Databases

  • Compression and non-compression questions

    Hi Folks,
I want to use my PC as a music juke box. I plan on having an audio output lead plugged into my living room stereo from my PC and using iTunes to do the playing and managing of the downloaded music files. I want to import my music CDs into the PC using a lossless or rather using no form of compression because I want the music to be at it's audio best.
Then, when I want to use my iPod I want to make a copy of the original PC stored copy into an iPod appropriate file such as Apples MPeg4 format. This conversion because of the limited storage space on an iPod. You can get a whole lot more MPeg4 files on a iPod than you can Wav format files. I don't have the exact ratio but it's something like 8 to 1 in terms of the numbers of files you can upload onto an iPod.
So there you have it. Quality, unadulterated, clear, dynamic music playing out of my living room stereo from the PC and a compress copy of the music on my iPod where the audio quality isn't crucial.
    Got any ideas?
    Thanks
    Bart

    You have two options:
    1) Use completely separate libraries for your lossless files and lossy files (probably more pain that it's worth).
    2) Use separate playlists
With 1), you have to hold shift when starting iTunes to select or create an iTunes Library. You'll also have to either import seperately, or delete the undesired files out of the library (without deleting the file from the hard disk), then add them into the other library. Possible but moderately difficult. To sync your iPod you connect your iPod when the "lossy" library is selected.
With 2), you can just make two smart playlists -- one where the criteria is "Kind" is Apple Lossless, and another with "Kind" = "AAC audio file". To sync your iPod, you change the preference to only sync selected playlists, and select the playlist that has the lossy music.
P.S. Lossless compression sounds identical to the source because "lossless" compression means exactly that -- no information is lost. Examples are the Apple Lossless Encoder and FLAC (FLAC is not supported by iTunes/iPod).

  • How many effects can you put on each track? and best reverb and chorus fx??

    Hi,
I was wondering how many effects you can truly put on each track.
i tracked vocals last night and could only put two inserts in there. Is that all?
so if i want to eq my voice and add verb or eq my voice and add chorus, i can't even think of adding anything else???
also, what are the best reverbs and chorus effects to use that give your voice that professional sound that they have in R&B songs??

i tracked vocals last night and could only put two inserts in there. Is that all?
As you add a second plug-in, a third slot becomes available. Add a third plug-in, a fourth becomes available, etc...
also, what are the best reverbs and chorus effects to use that give your voice that professional sound that they have in R&B songs??
That "professional" sound (depending on what you're listening to) is the singer.
Yes, there are FX that enhance it, but a plain, non-effected vocal will sound professional if the singer is good.
If you're feeling like you have to add EQ, reverb, chorus, etc to sound "professional"... than the singing isn't good. Trust me on this one.
Aside from a good singer, having a quality microphone and pre-amp is a good place to start, gear-wise. Follow that up with a good hardware compressor, maybe EQ, and THAT alone should sound like a million bucks if the singer is the real deal.
Don't underestimate the importance of compression, when used correctly. This will even out the volume of the vocal, and bring it forward, making it seem more intimate.
Chorus is rarely a flattering effect, unless it's used very subtly, or an obvious "effected" sound is desired.
And a little bit of reverb can go a LONG way. A "smidge" of any of Logic's Space Designer vocal presets will do just fine.

  • Audio and video compression preferences for export to DVDSP

    Hi,
I have a few questions here. The first is regarding the internal use of compressor by DVD Studio Pro. It is my understanding from (limited experience with) past projects that quicktime movie files are automatically compressed to an mpeg2 format when imported into DVDSP. To what extent do I have control over the level of compression, and are the default mpegs that were made optimal quality? Where can I check this?
My second question is regarding compression of audio files. Whereas my video files were automatically compressed, I am not so sure about the audio. I was forced to compress the audio down to Dolby2 separately using the external compressor program, in order not to exceed the bitrate on my last project. Was this just a question of one or the other (video/audio) needing further compression than the default amount, or is there more to this issue?
I live and work with video in Europe, where I have recently been told that optimal audio is mp3? 4? rather than Dolby 5.1? Is this correct, and how much more space does dolby 5.1 take than dolby2? How significant an issue is this when making dvd's for musicians?
Lastly, can someone recommend the best quality audio-video compression solution for a dvd containing approx 40 minutes of audio and video footage for use in europe?? or explain how I might go about finding this out for myself?
Thanks a lot, and I look forward to reading your comments.

Settings for DVDSP's internal encoder can be adjusted in DVDSP preferences. Press Command-, - that's the Apply and the comma keys - to bring those up, then select the Encoder tab. In your case, make sure you adjust the settings for SD DVD (and not HD-DVD). You will also be able to specify whether to encode in the background (basically, as soon as you import your file) or encode on build, at the bottom of that tab.

I can't confess to have read any of your previous threads, but if you exceeded bit rate, that is a common reason to need to use Dolby compression for your audio. (unless you can afford to recompress your video files)
That is, if you video files use a high bit rate (say over 6 Mbps average), then it's usually necessity to use Dolby compression to make sure that all your footage fits on a single disc. (this is a simplification, of course, but I think you get the idea)
Or was there more to this question that I'm missing?

Someone was mistaken when they told you that DVDs accept - let alone are optimized for - mp3 or mp4 files. That's flat out wrong.
As for the difference between Dolby 5.1 vs 2.0, that depends on your encoding rates. Typically, most folks encoder Dolby 2.0 at 192 kbps, with some choosing to up the bit rate to 224 kbps. Beyond 224 kbps, you're not actually improving audio quality for a 2.0 mix, you're just bloating your file size. When it comes to 5.1 audio, it's typical to encode your audio at 384 or 448 kbps.
When it comes to compressed audio vs uncompressed audio, it does matter when you're making DVDs for musicians. But that means that you'll probably need to lower the bit rate on your video files.
Lastly, can someone recommend the best quality audio-video compression solution for a dvd containing approx 40 minutes of audio and video footage for use in europe??
If you want to keep you audio as AIFF files, set your encode to 2 Pass VBR Best, with an Average bit rate of 5.0 Mbps and a Max bit rate of 7.0 Mbps. If you need things to happen a bit faster, use One Pass (not One Pass VBR) and use 5.5 Mbps as your bit rate.
If you want to have a firm grasp over how all these numbers work, there is a section at the back of DVDSP manual, that explains how to calculate bit rates (what we call bit budgeting in the business). Give that a quick once-over if you can.

  • Best Practises and Guidelines for SharePoint 2013 Development

Currently We are using SharePoint 2010 and doing a lot of enhancement and customization in the portal.
we are planning to migrate SharePoint 2013 after 6-9 months.
I want to know what are the best practices and guidelines for development in SharePoint 2010 keeping one thing in mind that customization should be compatible or can easily migrate to SharePoint 2013 so that re-engineering effort would be as minimum
    as possible.
We have every possible piece of customization in SharePoint 2010 portal like web part, event receivers, workflows, master page, page layout, custom search etc.
    Please do the needful.

Best practices don't really apply here. They are generally rules of thumb that you can apply without thinking too much and be pretty much right. Development is by it's nature too varied to allow that sort of best practice guidance.
Having said that the main thing you should be concerned with around the choice of development approach in 2013 is the intended future of your client and the application. If they are making a move to the cloud you should be concentrating on the app model
and rapidly phasing out farm solutions. If they are considering it then you can still consider using the more old-school options of farm solutions and sandboxed solutions. If they can't go to the cloud because of data security etc. then you are more or less
free to use what you like.
Also, try to move to client side processing wherever possible. MS are only going to make server side work less pleasant in future.
Beyond that, get to some conferences and start chewing through some of the blogs on the topic.

  • Best Size and Resolution to Scan Photos?

Hi, I need to create a photo slide show in iMovie. I would do it iPhoto but I need to able to time my music and add intermittent titles so I guess I'll need to use iMovie. I'm very new to iMovie and actually am used to editing on Avid and Media 100 (which I no longer have access to) so I'm a little scared! So, my question is - when I scan my photos what is the best size and resolution to scan them at for the best final results? It will be viewed on a TV from a DVD. Any other tips for a newbie also appreciated. Thanks so much! -Julie

  • Best rgb and gamma settings for external monitor with mountain lion

    Hi,
I'm using an LG LED 22 inch monitor with my MBP mid 2010 via minidisplay to hdmi. on OS X side the settings have been default. On the LED side the settings , if set to preset RGB it tends to fade the whites a lot. when i set to user definied and let the preset rgb be at it is, the colors are quote decent. currently they are on R 50, G 58 and B 59 and Gamma 1. Which is the best RGB and Gamma value for OS X Mountain Lion?

    Welcome to the forum.
First off, you need to go and buy a hardware monitor calibrator, such as an OptixXR or similar. This will build a custom monitor profile for your specific screen. Without this starting point you can forget ANY attempt at accurate colour matching.
Never (and I mean never) use a working space such as sRGB or Adobe98 as your monitor profile, that's not what they are designed for. Working spaces control what colours are possible in the image, monitor profiles control how those colours are shown on screen. Aperture uses it's own working space so you don't have to worry about that too much.
To answer the rest far too briefly, I'd suggest setting the proofing profile to sRGB and of course use sRGB for the export preset. The gamma setting you will have to adjust depending on how dark the Lightjet prints look compared to your screen. You will have to do test-strips to start with.
Your images looking crap on flickr on Windows machines is partly because Windows web browsers generally do NO colour correction, and only partly to do with the different gamma.

  • When I synch a file "best photos" via iTunes to my iPhone I get two identical files - "best photos" and Photo library.  I don't know why

When I synch a file "best photos" via iTunes to my iPhone I get two identical files - "best photos" and Photo library.  I don't know why

All photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync process are stored in the iPhone's Photo Library.
When transferring multiple albums or a single album, the photos in the albums below are not duplicated as in taking double the storage capacity for the photos. Photos in an album or albums below include a pointer to the original photos stored in the Photo Library.
This way you can view the photos in an album only by selecting the album, or all photos in all albums by selecting Photo Library. Makes more sense when transferring multiple photo albums from your computer but the same applies when transferring a single album or folder of photos.
The same applies to iTunes playlists. A song placed in a playlist is not duplicated.

  • Which is the best antivirus and spyware for Mac?

    Good morning,
Because of schoolwork and extracurricular activities, I am constantly sending and receiving e-mails and messages to and from PCs and other Apple devices, like IPads. Two years ago I purchased a 120,12GB MacBook Air and, until a few months ago, it went perfectly well.
I am not sure what happened, but lately, every time I go online, whatever I click -whether it is a random letter in a website, or a blank space in a page, anything- an advert appears or a new -unwanted- tab opens with publicity and such, the kind of additional tabs that open when you are watching movies online in a random website, but this time, it is happening with every website (even the Apple site) and almost constantly. I suspect it is something I downloaded or maybe something I received from an infected PC that I got a virus or problem from.
I tried using the MacKeeper software, but it is not working for me (?). Also I tried blocking pop-ups (I use Google Chrome), Java Script, automatic downloads, complements and everything I could when going online, but it has not gotten better over the last 9 months. My parents also recommended me a very good technician, who I personally know and has solved many of my previous problems, but he could not help me, in this situation.
For that reason, I have been considering either purchasing a good antivirus for my Mac or a new Mac and an antivirus for it, to prevent future problems like this one.
Either way, the question is the same,
Which is the best antivirus and spyware software for Mac?
Thank you so much for your attention.

Please get rid of MacKeeper, as it and most other such junk software will do more harm than good.
