Best Adobe program for compelling editorial portfolio

Hello,
I am a writer, editor, and all-around communications professional. (In these times, it doesn't hurt to diversify.) I'm consequently trying to put together a portfolio in an easily accessed format (PDF) that showcases writing, editing, and graphic generation samples. What is the best Adobe product to do this? I need something that will let me bring in Word documents while retaining their formatting - and also then let me organize my content in pretty ways, all indexed by a table of contents.
Thanks for any help. I clicked 'Indesign' because it looked the best bet, but if this is the best program for my needs, could you briefly also explain how this program can easily fulfill my needs?
Thanks again for any help.

InDesign may well be the best bet. It's a page layout application that allows you to import a variety of text and graphic formats and arrange them on the page. It also has a Table of Contents feature Driven by paragraph styles (so you may need to add non-printing text labels for non-text items you want to include), and it allows you to export as PDF and SWF, as well as eps or jpeg (which isn't great -- you'll get better results rasterizing a PDF in Photoshop).
Normally when importing word files you do the formatting in InDesign to take advantage of it's superior typography and positioning, but you can certainly preserve as much or as little as you like of what you've done in Word. The exception to this is images you've included in your Word documents. Those should be imported again separately (you can copy/paste them with proper preference settings, but the results are usually not very satisfactory). If you want an absolute copy of the Word document, it is probably best to make a PDF from Word and import that instead.
If you have some more specific questions it will make it easier to give you the information you need.

on what is the best Adobe program for creating interactve iPad books? and then extending

    - InDesign 6 - Best layout limited intractivity and issues with the folio builder
    - Edge - HTML 5 BUT No Audio/Video
    - Digital Publishing Suite the cost is just silly for the little guy
I welcome your thoughts and opinions

  • I have to create a presentation about waste water management. The students needs to see how the water flows in the system. Which is the best Adobe program for this task?

I need to show dirty water, the treatment, and the clean water after treatment. It is necessary to see how the water flows in the tubes.
Which is the best Adobe program fr this job?

After Effects, but be ready for a steep learning curve. Third party plug-ins may be required if you want realistic flow. Schematic diagrams are fairly easy to create with After Effects. I do it all the time.

  • Is Edge Animate the best Adobe program for creating app demos?

I would like to create an animated demo (video?) that shows a mobile app UX as if someone is interacting with it...(ie. fly-out menus, zooming, scrolling, etc.) It is not meant to be interactive but rather just observed by the audience. I plan to include these in my online portfolio but I am not sure which Adobe app would best accomplish this. Is Edge Animate the best option for me?
Here is a great example of what i am trying to achieve...

When you say "App demos", are you referring to software applications? If so, Adobe Captivate is something to consider.

  • What is the best Adobe program for creating animated UI concepts for compositing?

I'm starting work on a concept of what an OS using the Oculus Rift might be like, mostly for fun. But I'm not sure what program would best suit my needs for that sort of work. I currently have the Photography CC pack, and I have Premiere CC as well. Would photoshop's animation systems work best, or is there something else I would have a better time with? I would need something that could output plain jane image frames with alpha channels.
I have a fair amount of experience with photoshop, but the few times I've used it's animations features I've had a hell of a time figuring things out and doing certain things. Should I just learn that, or is there something that would work significantly better?

    Otherwise, I have no idea

  • What best adobe programs to (design) and (create) animated gif or image ?

    Hello,
first thank you very much for helping me,
i am about creating an animated gif like the background you can see in war craft 3 frozen throne for a game,
i have to design it first with high quality so i need to know best adobe programs can do that, although i need to know the easiest, so i need to know both of them the best and the easiest so if didn't made it with the best i can made it with the easiest pro, and please put in mind that i need a program to design the image from nothing so i will draw it or design it i don't know depending on the program it self but i will not use it for editing or use an image already there, i need an elite pro that allow to create the image from nothing.
after that i need to create an animated gif for the image (gif not good for high quality images so if you know better please tell),
for example "Her hair moves with the moving wind" so i need to move it, i don't know how so i need a program to make it move too.
last thing at the end i need the file type be accepted in html(5) adobe games programs like flash builder or flash pro for example, i know flash pro can animate it but will not design it, thank you again.

It may require a few different apps.  Clearly the number one app is you and your ability to conceptualize.  And, it depends on what type of animation you ultimately want produced.  Game graphics is a lot different than a web banner animated .gif.  I'm thinking Illustrator, Photoshop, Edge Animate, and After Effects.

What is the best Adobe program to make a slideshow presentation?

I use a non-Adobe product for slide shows. See: Photodex - Create photo and video slideshows with ProShow
(I use the Prod Producer program from Photodex)
I do many slide shows and convert them for use in PPro for sound some effects, etc.

  • Best Adobe product for editing PDF, replacing English text with Thai without altering/recompressing images, graphics etc.?

I have an English language PDF, a medical device brochure, the content of which has already been translated into Thai (in Word). I want to replace the original English in the PDF with the Thai translation easily without altering any other aspect of the brochure, like graphics, images, margins etc. (No doubt I'll have to tweak line height, font sizes and paragraph lengths a little.) I'm unsure of what would be the best Adobe product for this purpose, e.g. Illustrator, InDesign or Acrobat (or something else), that would allow me simply to open the PDF, replace the English with Thai in an attractive Thai font (to be embedded), make minor layout tweaks, then save without any compression so the quality and colours of the original photos, artwork, and graphical elements are preserved. I've heard Office 2013 allows direct editing of a PDF but I'm not sure if it converts, alters or compresses PDF graphics in some way when first opening the file. Could anyone with relevant experience please advise? Thanks in advance.

Adobe's only offering here is Adobe Acrobat. However, I must say something. I have heard from many people who sought to translate a PDF in this way. NONE SUCCEEDED. PDF is not suitable for this purpose. Obtain the original, this should be part of your contract for translation. If this is impossible, expect to remake the document; Word is probably unsuitable for a brochure of this type, maybe InDesign.

  • Best backup program for iPhone 3GS??

I am looking for the BEST backup program for the above - not only a program which makes backups of the programs, but ALO the contents of the programs - of everything! Any recommendations, thanks!

I agree with the first reply UNLESS your iPhone is not being backed up by iTunes because it gets stuck. I actually just posted a question in re to this problem. For all you Apple owners I know, I should've bought an Apple. Well, I've owned three iMacs in the last 3 years and they are fabulous computers- u just didn't have 1300 laying around this time so I got a pretty powerful PC for 600.
Anyway, my point being iTunes works great as a backup app for the iPhone. I just think my issue is I'm using Windows 7 64-bit with iTunes 64-bit and there might be some glitch because as soon as I click the 'x' besides "Backing up iPhone..,." it syncs fine, I just don't have a backup. Unfortunately I didn't get the Apple protection plan for the iPhone, but I doubt it's the phone anyway. Thanks.

  • What's the best approach/program for finding and eliminating duplicate photos on my hard drive?

What's the best approach/program for finding and eliminating duplicate photos on my hard drive? I have a "somewhat" older version of iPhoto (5.0.4), and it doesn't seem to offer anything like that except during the importing phase of syncing my phone...

I wonder, is there room to transfer them to your phone, & then back to filter them?

  • Best Autorun software for making digital portfolio?

Best Autorun software for making digital portfolio?

'Best' is a subjective judgement depending on your needs. For brochures you have, for example, InDesign and Apple's Pages.
Good place to look for software:

And for free alternatives to some popular software packages:
