Best app (not TM) for syncing iPhoto library

I have iPhoto 11 on my iMac. I use Time Machine to backup with the HDD conneted to my iMac.
However I would also like to either backup my iPhoto library to my NAS, or to another HDD for offsite storing. I also want to hold my iTunes library too.
So I have seena few Mac Apps for syncing, but not one that seems to do what I want to do.
Is there any apps that can sync iPhto library to another NAS or HDD? I would rather they sync, than having to just copy the whole iPhoto library everytime, as this would take ages.
Am I right in thinking that I have to have the NAS or HDD in a Mac exteneded format or something? Also I know the iPhoto library is actual a database file, so can sync software actual sync these type?
any help please

First off: you need to clarify your terms. You use sync and back up interchangeably and they are not the same thing.
Syncing: The general term means when two Libraries (A and B) are compared and files in Library A are copied to Library B, while files in Library B are also copied to Library A so that both Libraries are identical.
Backing up is a one directional copy: The source is copied to the target.
It sounds like you might mean incremental backing up?
The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
Yes the iPhoto Library needs to sit on a disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and that will rule out using a NAS.

I prefer to arrange my photos by title but when I shut down Iphoto, my photos rearrange by date.  This is not acceptable for my growing library of snanned black and white ancestral photos. How do I get photos in events to stay in place ?

I actually am illiterate on the use of the finder to to view photos in folders.  I guess I will go to a class at the local Apple store for a lesson on the uses of finder .
My method of viewing my photos are through events in I photo.
    1. Download  from camera or scan  in from old photos.
2  I organize photos into events by occasion, or happenings in a certain year, or a group of photos with memorabilia of a certain person from childhood and on. etc.
    3.  Because Iphoto does not allow rearranging as I was able to do in my old PC with Corell,  I drag all of the photos to an " album" on the left side of sceen.
    4.  I arrange photos in "order" after which I number each photo in sequence. I do this for a few of reasons.
              - if a photo is accidentally deleted I know it.  I can usually remedy this by checking my trash or
    rescanning.
              - I can sort by title without complications and this holds in "album"
    5.  The pictures will re arrange automatially to match the album in I photo.
    6.  This worked great in I-photo 09 but now in mountain lion the pictures in events go back to "
sort by date" and will not hold "sort to Title"each time I photo is closed down.  What a nuicance it is to have to go  to view and click "title"  again and again every time Iphoto is opened.
    7. Can I go back to Photo 09? .

i'm having the same problem.  yesterday, i updated my itunes to the latest version and both my iPad & iPod touch won't sync all my music.  at first, my playlists wouldn't even show up on the devices.  now they do, but when i click on the lists, there are no songs listed.  i have some artists that show up, but not all.

  • IPod not recognized (for sync OR charging) after OS 4 upgrade

I upgraded to OS4 on Saturday July 10th with no problems. On Sunday (July 11) I used my iPod quite a bit. I was at a friend's house and the battery was getting low so he charged it through his computer. It charged completely and we continued using it the rest of the day. I plugged it in to my PC to charge it Sunday night and it was not recognized at all (for charging OR for syncing) through any of the USB hubs. I asked my friend the method he used to charge it that day and he confirmed it was via computer. Monday night I tried charging it through a friend's iMac. It charged halfway, though it still wasn't recognized. Tuesday morning I tried to charge it on the same computer and I got the "too much power drawn from the USB hub - HUB deactivated" message on ANY of the HUBs. It still doesn't work on my own home computer (though it HAD been working Friday night and Saturday morning pre-OS4 installation).
I'm personally running Ubuntu 10.04 but obviously only was able to charge the iPod on that system. Anytime I want to sync or download music I restart to Windows Vista (and iTunes).
I do also have apps installed, but nothing new from the previous OS - (I know that blaming third party apps is a common cop-out answer for apple techs).
I hope this wasn't too confusing. My real problem is simply described by my subject line: iPod not recognized (for sync OR charging) after OS 4 upgrade. What follows is simply everything I've done to troubleshoot. The only thing I haven't tried is restore...because my iPod isn't even recognized by iTunes.
I would greatly appreciate any help or stories related stories/situations. Strength (and hopefully solutions) in numbers!
    Best,
    Dan

Assuming you haven't got the cords mixed up with another, older iPod, it sounds like you have a couple of problems:
    1. Your computer's USB ports have quit working. Reboot your computer and see if they reactivate.
    2. Your friend's iMac generated that message because you tried to charge the device from the low power keyboard USB port. iPods need to be charged off one of the main USB ports or a powered hub.
    3. iPods not being recognized by iTunes can be caused by 1) wrong cable; 2) non-functioning USB ports; 3) iTunes not being the correct version for the iPod OS; and finally 4) Apple Mobile Device Services driver is either stopped, missing, or disabled.
To troubleshoot a problem with Apple Mobile Device Services, see the Apple support article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567

  • Iphoto 9.5 won't import photos from iPhoto 7.5.  Library will not update using the iPhoto library upgraded application.

iphoto 9.5 won't import photos from iPhoto 7.5.  Library will not update using the iPhoto library upgrader application.  Repeatedly says it can't locate photos even when told to cancel.  I think the photos in question are in Nikon RAW format.

iPhoto 9.5 immediately tries to "upgrade" my library using the upgrader.
iPhoto 9.5 asks you to run the upgrader to prepare the library for 9.5. It then will update the library to its format.
You need to do the following:
1 - go to your Applications/Utilities folder and double click on the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application.
2 - select Choose Library, navigate to your iPhoto library, select it and let the upgrader do its thing.
3 - launch iPhoto 9.5 to open and finish the conversion of the library.

  • Photos did not automatically open my iPhoto library

When I opened Photos for the first time, it did not automatically import my iPhoto library.
The library is on an external disc.
When I use 'import' and navigate to the iPhoto library it is 'greyed' out and Photos says 'None of these files can be imported into your Photos library".
How can I import the library into Photos?

You don't import your iPhoto Library, you open it in Photos.
Hold down the alt/options key and double click the Photos icon, while holding both keys firmly down. This will bring up the Library Chooser panel. Select your iPhoto Library from the panel. Photos will create an upgraded copy of your iPhoto Library, that will link to the originals in the iPhoto library, so that the photos need not to be duplicated.  (Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support)
Afterwards you will have two libraries, the old iPhoto Library, renamed with "Migrated" in the name, and the new photos library.

  • How can I designate the disk for the iPhoto library?

how can I designate the disk for the iPhoto library?

Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

I've no problem using BT wifi on my device (Nook BNTV400) so why is the app not available for that device? It's not like the nook is proprietory, everything else I've tried to find in the play store works fine.
Is the apk available for download direct from bt?

if you can connect to btwifi without the app then I wouldn't bother trying to find the apk file
if you have an android smartphone then you can download the app and get the apk file to sideload on to your nook

  • Apps in library not available for syncing

I've searched and searched but can't seem to figure out this problem.
There are some apps in my iTunes library that I had purchased on my iPad and I want to put them on my son's iPod touch.  But when I plug in his device those apps don't appear on the sync list for his device.  No matter what I do I can't seem to get those apps on the list, which means I can't get them on his iPod.  How do I solve this problem?

I see all my smart albums in iTunes when I sync the iPad. But sometimes iTunes is confused about the current library. I have several iPhoto and Aperture Libryries, and I noticed that iTunes sometimes still tries to sync the previously opened library, not the most recently opened one. To be able to tell which library iTunes is showing, I name one of the projects exactly like the library. So I can tell easily, if iTunes is syncing an older copy of the library.
For example a small test library named "iPhoto Library" containing one smart album:

  • Best way to set up Shared iPhoto Library for Family - individual user IDs

We have a iMAc shared by the family on which we want to establish an iPhoto library that we can all access and utlize. I have not found any good guidance on how best to set this up.
Any suggestions or good references ?
    Thank you,
    John

For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • ITunes will not recognise my entire iPhoto library and won't sync

I've been having sync issues with iTunes and Aperture so Decided to just delete Aperture as I don't really see the advantage of it over iPhoto which I find much simpler and user friendly.
After I deleted all my photos and aperture, I went to sync my iPhone 5S to set up the sync for photos with iPhoto. Unfortunately it only recognises a small portion of my iPhoto library. There are only a few events and a few faces to choose from to sync. If I choose to syc all photos then it shows only about 15% of the total number of photos. I've gone back and opened iPhoto but I can see all my events, faces, etc.... (entire library is about 20K pics but iTunes only shows about 2.5K for syncing.
What can I do to fix?
I'm afraid something went wrong because I deleted Aperture. I check before I deleted and both iPhoto and Aperture had the same photos. I use all the latest versions of iTunes and iOS and Yosemite.

    Correct.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.
