Best apps for organizing with iOS?

I Am wanting to find an app that can be used on an iPad that can sync with iCloud and be used on iPhone, Mac Air and read with excel and word for organizing clients. Can anyone help? Thx!!!

say you have 50+ clients that you would want to have a separate folder for. You would have all of their information with you, separated and organized separately so you can edit each. Would Evernote work for this? Another suggestion?

  • Best Apps for Sync with iPhone

I work in a small consulting firm and we share our calendar and contacts. I currently use Mail and the Now Up to Date and Contacts with my MacBook Pro and iPhone. One glaring issue is that the NUDC v.5 does not sync with iCal and therefore I don't have my calendar on my iPhone. I've considered updating to one of: NowX, Daylite, Entourage 2008 (Mac ed.), or other apps that handle this kind of shared data management that can be sync'd among devices and users. I understand I could just use iCal but it's been recommended that we don't use it for a shared calendar and, personally, I think it's not a very good calendar app. Any suggestions on which app may work best in this environment?
    Thanks.

You'll probably get a better response in one of the iPhone specific forums. iSync is for syncing to non-Apple phones, so visitors to this forum are less likely to have an iPhone and be able to offer advice on what apps sync with it.

  • Is there a way to increase the font size for the "songs" and "artists" lists in the new music app for iPad 2 (iOS 5)? It is too small for me.

It would depend on your definition of "Fix"
Your iPod touch running OS 4.2 has a ZOOM feature which will enable you to see the screen more clearly.
To turn Zoom on or off got to:
Settings > General > Accessibility > Zoom and tap the Zoom On/Off switch.
    _To Zoom in or out_:
Double-tap the screen with three fingers. By default, the screen is magnified 200 percent. If you manually change the magnification (by using the tap-and-drag gesture, described below), iPod touch automatically returns to that magnification when you zoom in by double-tapping with three fingers.
Increase magnification: With three fingers, tap and drag toward the top of the screen (to increase magnification) or toward the bottom of the screen (to decrease magnification). The tap-and-drag gesture is similar to a double-tap, except you don’t lift your fingers on the second tap—instead, drag your fingers on the screen. Once you start dragging, you can drag with a single finger.
    _Move around the screen_:
When zoomed in, drag or flick the screen with three fingers. Once you start dragging, you can drag with a single finger so that you can see more of the screen. Hold a single finger near the edge of the display to pan to that side of the screen image. Move your finger closer to the edge to pan more quickly. When you open a new screen, Zoom always goes to the top-middle of the screen.
    _Large Text_:
Large Text lets you make the text larger in alerts, and in Calendar, Contacts, Mail, Messages, and Notes. You can choose 20-point, 24-point, 32-point, 40-point, 48-point, or 56-point text.
Set the text size: In Settings, choose General > Accessibility, tap Large Text, then tap the text size you want.
I hope this has helped a little - other than this option I think it pretty much is what it is.
BTW - This information can be found on page 208 of the iPod Touch iOS 4.2 Users Guide.
    Best wishes..

  • Best Apps for I Pad 2 for storing documents

What are the best apps for storing and organizing documents.  Is Pages necessary for casual use?

DropBox seems pretty good - it allows folders and is properly integrated with Finder so its easy to use on the desktop.  You can put most any type of file in the DropBox folders unlike iCloud where it seems you are given three folders only to use (Keynote, Pages and Numbers).  You don't seem to be able to create folders on the desktop in iCloud (using a browser) but you can create folders on the iPad by dropping one file ontop of another.
DropBox allows you to organise files and folders any way you want with different kinds of files in the same folder.  iCloud (at the moment) seems to give you only three folders (one for each iWork app) which is not really how one would organise things in real life.
Some usability issues with DropBox include:
When you click on a file on the iPad/iPhone DropBox loads the document and displays it on the right - this takes a good few seconds.
In order to open the document in the correct APP (e.g. Pages, Keynote, Adobe Reader, etc.) you must click the Open In  menu on the top right hand corner.  This loads the appropriate application which then mostly seem to copy the file to their environment and then you have to click on the file again to open it in the APP.   Seems like a very tedious way to do things and quick contrary to the normal intuitive ways one would expect the Apple environment to work.   Wish someone could explain why Apple has made it so ridiculously hard to simply open a document.
If you edit a file in the APP on the iPad/iPhone then it seems impossible to copy the file back to DropBox.

  • Best practice for dealing with Recordsets

    Hi all,
I'm wondering what is best practice for dealing with data retrieved via JDBC as Recordsets without involving third part products such as Hibernate etc. I've been told to NOT use RecordSets throughout in my applications since they are taking up resources and are expensive. I'm wondering which collection type is best to convert RecordSets into. The apps I'm building are webbased using JSPs as presentation layer, beans and servlets.
    Many thanks

There is no requirement that DAO's have a direct mapping to Database Tables. One of the advantages of the DAO pattern is that the business layer isn't directly aware of the persistence layer. If the joined data is used in the business code as if it were an unnormalized table, then you might want to provide a DAO for the joined data. If the joined data provides a subsiduray object within some particular object, you might add the access method to the DAO for the outer object.
    eg:
In a user permissioning system where:
    1 user has many userRoles
    1 role has many userRoles
    1 role has many rolePermissions
    1 permission has many rolePermissions
ie. there is a many to many relationship between users and roles, and between roles and permissions.
The administrator needs to be able to add and delete permissions for roles and roles for users, so the crud for the rolePermissions table is probably most useful in the RoleDAO, and the crud for the userRoles table in the UserDAO. DOA's also can call each other.
During operation the system needs to be able to get all permissions for a user at login, so the UserDAO should provide a readPermissions method that does a rather complex join across the user, userRole, rolePermission and permission tables..
Note that f the system I just described were done with LDAP, a Hierarchical database or an Object database, the userRoles and rolePermissions tables wouldn't even exist, these are RDBMS artifacts since relational databases don't understand many to many relationships. This is good reason to avoid providing DAO's that give access to those tables.

  • What is the best app for backing up my mac. I do publication work and need to save my work?

what is the best app for backing up my mac. I do publication work and need to save my work?

My answer does not have the black Apple logo but the hardearned black belt of (bad) experience.
There is one problem with TimeMachine. It can get corrupted out of the blue with no warning and it will not want to restore correctly (as an added "bonus" you get to find this out the "hard" way, when you need it most). Plus it takes ages for the data to be copied back, sometimes days. Haven't tried my 600gb backup on Mavericks but Mountain Lion had this knack of breaking Timemachine after a couple of months.
To back up my entire server is use SuperDuper. It mirrors the drive to an external one (usb for example) The cool thing is you can use that usb drive and start the OS X from it (by holding Alt when you hear the boot chime).
This way you have a working copy of your entire machine. You can even go to another mac and boot it from there. I literally ran the OS X Server in my company from a usb drive on an old MacBook Pro until i got around to fix the problems with the actual server machine.
This has saved me twice already as the Hitachi drives Apple uses, tend to die like clockwork after 4000-5000 hours of use with no warning.

PS. As a sidenote... SSDs are more reliable than a normal HDD (not to mention faster) I can't stress this enough, my Server is on two SSDs now. I can't tell you how stress free the setup is, it doesn't feel like a computer but more like a router, it just works... forever. After two years with SSDs my server has had two days of downtime and their health is at 97%, they will literally last 100 years with normal use. I'd go so far as to recommend you buy an SSD and move your old HDD to an external enclosure and use that as a usb backup. (for SSDs i use Plextor / Lite-On M3s (older) or the M6s (newer))

Is pages the best app for creating wedding programs, or would you reccomend something free or cheaper?

As the question is asked three times, I guess that you wish to marry three times.
From my point of view, the best app to do this or that is the one with which we are comfortable.

  • Advice on best app for tracking iphone

I want to be able to track my kids iphone behind the scenes, what is the best app for this. I do not want my child to know the app is running.

Yes, I kind of guessed that. What I mean to say is that the service must not depend upon an App running upon the phone but uses the towers themselves and the inbuilt GPS providing the location.
The alternative would be a hacked phone with the hacking done by AT&T instead ?

  • What's the best app for taking a video on ipad2?

I am a tennis coach and am looking for an app for my iPad2 to do video analysis. I need to be able to video someone doing a serve and then show it to them in slow motion and be able to pause it. What's the best app for this?

Do some research into HTML5 video. Unless the user is using a modern browser with video playback capabilities, they would need to have an app to provide video playback, as well as the codecs for the video file format that you will be serving them. At this point in time, MP4 is the "clear(est)" winner of the online video formats. However not all browsers provide built-in playback. For instance, Firefox currently does not support MP4. Future Firefox builds will rely on whatever video playback the native OS provides. So coming back to your question - no, there's no real way of guaranteeing video playback on the web. You do the best you can and provide links to users where they can download the appropriate codecs and players and call it a day.

  • What's the Best App For Watching Videos on iPad Air?

Okay, so there's no Flash past, present or future for the iPad.  I read some discussions here in the archives from a year and two ago about which workaround works around best (or least badly).  Is there any update now as of December 2013 for what's the best app for viewing videos online on the iPad (Air)?  Thanks.

I downloaded the new (2013) version of Photon and it's been playing, appropriately enough, episodes of Star Trek: TAS that otherwise require Flash.   The one thing I have to remember is to click the goofy lighting bolt icon toward the top right-hand corner of the Photon screen when I return to warch an episode if I stopped in the middle.  Basically it will turn off the "Flash" emulation when the screen goes dark with inactivity, and then when you reopen Photon it crashes and you have to re-reopen Photon, click on the link to return to the website, and then click the lightning bolt icon.  I don't know why the producers made it that way, as it's pretty inconvenient, but maybe they wanted to make a browser more than a Flash emulator.  I haven't tried other Flash videos yet, but so far, so good.  :-)

  • Is the 'Undercover' app the best app for the job ?

    Hi,
Is the 'Undercover' app the best app for help finding a lost iPhone/Touch or is there an app that does a better job ?
    Thanks

Short of getting MobileMe that is probably the best you are going to come up with. You will have to hope that whoever finds the iPhone actually plays the game and that you check for this information close to the time they do so. You also need to hope they don't connect the iPhone to their computer which will wipe the app from the device.

  • Is Imovie the best app for history of a business

Is Imovie the best app for making a presentation on the history of a business?  It caused multiple crashes on my MacBook Pro and dowloaded commercials did not have audio at all.

Obviously if it's crashing it isn't....Powerpoint is the classic presentation program. iMovie is capable if you get it working, as is any video editing program. Powerpoint or other classic presentation programs have the advantage of being able to go back to sildes and incorporate pdfs you can print and such so while iMovie can make a good presentation, it's really a video editing program and whether it's right for you depends on your audience and how you want to communicate with them. Personally I loathe iMovie but that's because I edit in Final Cut Pro 7. Your crashing is a whole 'nother topic...

  • What is the best App for filing, viewing, editing excel?

I need help choosing the best app to work with excel for the ipad. I have mariner calc and am unhappy with it. It drops out quite a bit of formatting and you cannot file in folders. What is the best option?
    Thanks!

To Edit excel files the best app right now is currently Numbers, Numbers is severely limited in file organization and sharing right now. If all you need to do is look at excel files you have a couple options.
    Option 1 (Requires Connectivity):
Place the file on the web and view it in safari
    Option 2 (Offline use):
Use Goodreader to download and save your files, you can create folder Heiarchies and copy files from your computer using a sync cable from itunes, via email, or even through wifi.
If you can find something that combines the two options please let me know as I have been looking for solutions to this problem too. I wish apple had a shared folder space where apps could save files to be used in multiple programs much like they do with the photo albums
