Best audio connection

Best audio connection ?
a) itunes computer via RCA stereo connection to home theatre
b Itunes computer streamed to Apple TV , Apple TV connected via optical cable to home theater
c) this I have not tried ... Itune computer connected  directly via HDMi to home theater
Also does the sound-card in the computer make a difference ?
Antoine

I have Fredereih ataxia so my only hobby left is musique and no way I have the dexterity to insert a cd in a tray, I have 400 cd's all ripped at 196kb.
I love my Ipad with Itunes and the remote app to take control of my 5 computers in the house.
My apple tv is ok but I do not have a good internet connection.
In the room where I listen the most music, I have a small EEE laptop.
it is directly connected on a 925 pioneer receiver with 9 speakers (RCA)
Also in this room I have the apple TV connected via the Digital audio cable
Recently (I'm  in Canada ) I have been using RDIO (Like  Pandora) , they claim sending in  256  kb.
I  now notice that here is  a difference in Quality for the same file sent it different ways.
played directly from the Pc is not as good as if I use Airplay ?
a) should I resample my 400  cd's at 320kb ?
b) should     I buy another Laptop with a good soundcard and  a HDMI output.
I would appreciate any recommandation for any laptop under 1000$ ( Only Itune will be o n it.

  • Best audio connection to iPod

Is there a significant difference in audio quality between connecting your iPod from its headphone port or the dock connector port?
If so, why and by how much?
    Thanks,
    Happ

After further research, this link provides an answer to the question according to them:
    http://www.provantage.com/cables-go-35508~7CBTY00H.htm
    They say:
"The dock connector sends line level audio out from your iPod, providing better sound quality then when using the headphone jack. The dock connector also allows you to control the volume of your iPod through your stereo or computer instead of having to adjust the volume on the iPod [I don't know if that's an advantage or not]."
Of course, they're trying to sell their cable.

  • What format is the best audio format to use in iPod touch?

I want to know the difference between MP3, AAC and Apple Loose-less audio formats and I want to know as soon as possible. I knew that AAC and Apple Loose-less formats use more size than MP3. That's fine with me. I just want to listen my songs with the best possible quality. What is the best audio format?

Apple Lossless would give you quality identical to that of the original CD, but the files will be very large. A 3-minute song in Apple Lossless will be around 18 megabytes, versus about 6 megabytes for the same song compressed with AAC at 256 kbps. For an iPod, Apple Lossless is probably not an optimal format, since unless you have very high quality earphones or connect your iPod to a good stereo playback system, you won't really take advantage of the quality of Apple Lossless.
For most people, the optimal tradeoff of quality versus file size is AAC at 256kbps. But as Niel suggestion, import a couple of CDs using different codecs and bit rates and decide for yourself. Quality depends on your playback system and what your ears can hear, so only you can decide what will be optimal for your situation.

  • 5.1 audio connection

I am a new iMac user. I am now trying to connect my old 5.1 Creative T5900 speaker system (the one I used on my PC audio cart).  What hardware/software interface do I use best to connect the three jacks (rear, aft and subwoofer) to my 27" iMac?  Does my iMac produces 5.1 sound anyway and if yes in what instances ?
    Thanks for helping.

The specs of the 5.1 Creative T5900 are:
Product Type: 5.1-channel PC multimedia home theatre speaker system
    System Components: 5 speakers, subwoofer
    Speaker Type: Active
Nominal Output Power (Total): 74 Watt
    Media Included Qty: 40 - 20000 Hz
    Audio Amplifier: Integrated
Connectivity Technology: Wired with 3 input jacks (rear, aft and subwoofer)
    Speaker System Details: 4 x satellite speaker - 8 Watt ¦ 1 x centre channel speaker - 20 Watt ¦ 1 x subwoofer - 22 Watt

  • X-Fi Elite Pro: Which mode for best audio output?

I need your help in determining the best audio output (level and clarity). Up until now, I use the Entertainment mode (6bit/44.KHz) and the Audio Creation mode (in 96KHz, not sure at what bit depth this modes works though...). I need to find the best mode and in-mode settings to achieve maximum audio output level (in terms of dynamic range and dB level)as well as optimal sound clarity. For the latter, I believe that the sound should be unadulterated, so additional enhancements such as EAX, Crystalizer, CMSS etc should not be used...
    Any help will be appreciated

    Hello Hyperion,
I can try to answer this.
My experience (and you know that listening to audio and the quality is objectionable), I listen through "Gaming Mode". This seems to be the best "playback sound quality" at least for my ears.
Additionally, I really don't care for digital output, its not my preference so I have the MAUDIO E66's connected through analog. Simple but seems to be effecti've in terms of listening and not tiring to the ears.
"the sound should be unadulterated, so additional enhancements such as EAX, Crystalizer, CMSS etc should not be used"... I absolutley agree, to an extent. I setup my elite pro with the basic very "vanilla", but in the end, I do use the Crystalizer (set to "2"). I don't beli've in eqalization or very little, but the reality is unless you have a perfectly designed room acoustically, you will probobly benefit from some form of oversampling such as I stated. I would like others to chime in and share what operating systems they use. For best playback quality, I have found 2008 Server serves me well. But, motherboard, cpu, memory of course plays out as major hardware for consideration.
Anyway, I'm getting a bit off topic here - would really like to hear from Creative on this. What do they use in testing (mode, software, motherboard, cpu, memory).

  • Phone disconnected/audio disconnected phone connected/audio connected

Since the update, my 2014 toyota corolla intermittently says phone disconnected/audio disconnected then phone connected/audio connected.  Sometimes I have actually been on the phone when this happens, my calls drops and then reconnects again as if nothing happened.  I miss parts of the conversastions, one time it was actually a really important call that I was taking.

Yes, Sky did raise the fault with BT and they stated it was a disconnected line.
the reason was that another phone line was connected. they told them to correct the mistake as was told it was not a mistake as it was a disconnected line.
5 hours of phone calls later to Sky and BT and the best a Sky technical Manager could offer was to reconnect with a new number for free (no 120 pound charge) still waiting for the 2 week wait for a phone number. Then I will need to wait another 4 days for internet.
4 weeks lost in phone and internet usage becaue of an engineer error and then another error in not being able to correct a fault correctly.

  • Bad audio connection

I have a 1st gen ipod shuffle, and it seems that the audio connection is bad. My left ear bud is not working. I even tried different earbuds. if I push the audio connection to one side, I can hear audio on the left side. How can I fix this? I looked all over the discussions and could not find anything on this. I also googled this problem, and it looks like I can order a broken one on ebay and replace the part? Any other Ideas??
This is no longer under warranty.
    Thanks!!

  • What is the best audio interface to buy to record drums?

What is the best audio interface to buy to record drums?  Looking for something with 8 inputs to mic my drum kit.  Don't want to go past $1,000.  Been looking at the Presonus Firestudio and M-Audio Profire 2626, for example.  This is my first time setting up a home studio so any suggestions would be appreciated!
    Thanks.

The MOTU interfaces are a good value, and as Pancenter notes, they have rock-solid drivers.  I've had good experiences with the Traveler, although I'd bypass the mic pres if possible.
And if you're able to spend a bit more, the Metric Halo 2882 also has excellent drivers and noticeably-better sound--it's my fave in the <$2k range.  If you can find a used Apogee Ensemble, that's another great-sounding interface, although it can't match the latency performance of the MOTU or Metric Halo.  So, for software instruments, the Ensemble is not a good choice, but for recording acoustic drums, a used one for $1300-1500 would be excellent.

  • Does Apple TV and Optical Audio Connection work?

I've read several posts regarding this issue and I'm a little confused.  Does the Optical Audio work on the Apple TV (generation 3), because I haven't been able get it to work.  I get sound but no stereo/surround sound.  Yet, using the same connection out of my Receiver for my PS3 I do get stero/surround sound.  Have I missed a setting on the Apple TV?

Is there away I can check the Apple TV Optical Audio connection to see if it's working?  The physical connection seems to be fine.  Since the connection to A/V Reciever works, as confirmed by my PS3, I can only assume the Apple TV Optical Audio connection is faulty.  Other ideas on how I might validate if the Apple TV Optical Audio connection is truly "broken."

  • What settings give the BEST audio quality (original audio CD to iTunes)

Further to my last post, can ya'll PLEASE help me get the bottom of this? I have heard so many different opinions & need to resolve ASAP....
What pref' settings will give me the VERY BEST audio quality, when importing original audio CD's into iTunes 4?
File size is of no issue (I have TONS of storage). I aim to import all at the highest quality possible (files need to be "broadcast quality" - for playing through a big PA system). I have been advised to either.....
    1. Import using the AAC encoder at a stereo bit rate of 320 kbps with a sample rate of 48.000 kHz.
    2. Import using AIFF (lossless uncompressed).
    3. Import using Apple Lossless (lossless compressed).
WHICH ONE SHOULD I USE? Bearing in mind that the files will be played LOUD through a professional PA system & I'd prefer the crowd not to notice a significant diference between iTune files & orginal audio CD's (I will be spining both, side by side).
    Cheers - Sweetamix.

You are finding out that the answer to this question tough. Everyone has their own opinion on this one.
I saved the responses to a topic I opened six months ago on this same subject. I saved them and cut and pasted them into one document. Here were the answers I received. Good luck. bob
Subject: Re: Classical Music & Bitrate

    RE: Classical Music & Bitrate
My experience with classical music (and music in general) is that the higher the bitrate, the better the quality and richness of the music. On the other hand, there is a limit to how much distinction your ears can make, and I think that anything above 192 kbps (mp3 format) is not significantly better (and not worth the larger file size). And in terms of volume adjustment, I personally have not found any need for it.
    RE: Classical Music & Bitrate
I copied the same CD to my computer in 128, 160, 192, and 320 bitrates, and I couldn't tell a difference between any of 'em. I was listening to them with Grado SR60 headphones too.
    RE: Classical Music & Bitrate
I’m sure you will get several if not many responses. You may also find they vary with the preference of the individual. However there are some rules of thumb. Generally speaking I think you will indeed find the higher the bit rate brings you closer to the CD sound.
Certainly, 32-bit rate does not offer very good sound quality. Actually going from 32 to 320 should have been noticeably better, if not…. Then you’re in good shape. Because what you don’t know is there, can’t be missed.
Also, the bit rate is only part of the equation. What format codec <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=51910> are your songs ripped to.
Consider the following - iPod: About compatible song formats
    <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61476>
    MP3 (from 32 Kbps to 320 Kbps)
    MP3 Variable Bit Rate (VBR)
    AIFF
    WAV
    M4A AAC
    Apple Lossless Encoder
It sounds to me as though your songs may be in MP3 format. As a suggestion you might try ripping your CD’s to 128 AAC format. The general consensus is that AAC is better than MP3. Give it a shot…for the heck of it, and see what you think.
Finally in the end…..it matters little what we all might think….If you think your sounds are better ripped at a MP3 320 bit rate……Great. If not…experiment, and play around till you find what sounds wonderful to you!
    RE: Classical Music & Bitrate
Sorry for taking so long to get back to this thread: had two twelve-hour work days in a row.
I did a Get Info on a typical piece in my iTunes and got this
    Kind: AAC Audio File
    Bit Rate: 128kb (have some at 192 & 2 or 3 at 320)
    Sample Rate: 44.100 kHz
    Profile: Low Complexity
    Channels: Stereo
    Volume: +2.3
I was troubled that one responder couldn't tell the difference among 128, 160, 192, and 320 bitrates even using Grado SR60 headphones!
And another seems to be of a similar opinion when he says that I think that anything above 192 kbps (mp3 format) is not significantly better (and not worth the larger file size). Does this apply to AAC format, too?
However, I am going to continue to add tunes at the 320 bitrate - for a while - because I swear that I can tell a difference when I play them over my car radio via the cassette adapter.

  • Is Logic Pro the Best Audio Recording Software for Mac?

Couple questions. I do a lot of audio production and work currently. I use a gateway with Cubase, and its not bad, but I feel like I need something mroe high end.
I'm looking at the 17 inch Imac. Does anyone record using this computer? How's it sound? Is there any way to put in a new soundcard or something if i don't like the current one?
Secondly, is logic pro the most advanced and best audio recording software for the mac? Are there others as well?
I know about Pro Tools, but it seems like there isn't anything high end enough that is TOO high end.
Does the Pro version have superior mixing capabilties. I am primarily going to be micing a guitar amp and having a mixer run into a firewire port, and also using a preamp for my guitar direct into the computers USB.
Lastly, how are the mixing features on Logic Pro vs. Logic Express? I do a lot of post production mixing as well, and use VST plugins. Speaking of that, will it accomodate using a drum program like BFD through VST or Midi like Cubase will?
    Thanks for your time guys.

Yes, you do indeed need sth more high end.

It's not an iMac, but a faithful PowerBook G4 that I am using. Apples Core Audio is awesome. Your sound, however, will depend on your interface.
Secondly, is logic pro the most advanced and best
audio recording software for the mac? Are there
    others as well?
That's why we are here, and that's why you ended up in this forum as well
To me personally, Logic sounds warmer and bigger than any ProTools system I've ever heard. From what yopu described as the work you need to do, there is no comparable application. Logic also offers you many more features above and beyond what you currently need to do.
I know about Pro Tools, but it seems like there isn't
anything high end enough that is TOO high end.
Everybody is using PT, and you should maybe get a Light Edition version of it. However, as stated above, Logic offers by far more possibilities.

capabilties. I am primarily going to be micing a
guitar amp and having a mixer run into a firewire

For your purpose, Logic does have superior mixing capabilities. In my humble opinion, only the popularity of PT made it become the choice of studios and engineers, but things are turning...
Lastly, how are the mixing features on Logic Pro vs.
Logic Express? I do a lot of post production mixing
as well, and use VST plugins. Speaking of that, will
it accomodate using a drum program like BFD through

If you do post production mixing, forget about Logic Express altogether and go for Logic Pro. LP will accomodate tons of plug-ins, and it comes with a bunch of great one's as well!
The format for the plug-ins is called A(udio) U(nit) and works flawlessly. Many VST plug-ins are also available in AU format and the development of those is moving fast forward.
In other words, yes, you will be able to use BFD in Logic by means of the AU format.
    Thanks for your time guys.
    You're welcome.

  • Best cable connection: gtx560ti(2xSLI) to 2012 3DpanasonicTV with(1.3a receiver)

    Hi everybody.
Best cable connection between :MSI gtx560ti(2xSLI) to 2012 pana-TV  with (1.3a receiver Onkyo TX-SR507)
The TV I am planning to buy is a 2012 viera 3D model: TX-P42ST50Y .
Does any of you guys know how the best way is to connect the three so that 3D- picture and 5.1- sound is optimal ?
Notice the Onkyo is 1.3HDMI and not 1.4!
    Greeting from Flemming from Denmark.
PS: I guess I also have to buy NVIDIA´s software:3DTV Play

    Quote
Solution B) Do you know a 1.4 HDMI-3D-TV/monitor that can passthrough the 7.1 DTS sound back to the 5.1 DTS  1.3a-Receiver and be recogniced as 5.1-DTS ?
    Yes it should
    Quote
    Solution A) I have heard that the 1.3a receiver ruins the 1.4 3D-signal to the 3D TV/monitor.
1.3 specs also can transfer 3D signal, but i guess you have to try to find out.
