Best audio gear to buy for adobe audition to make audiobook & podcast & elearning screencast ?

what is the best audio gear to buy for adobe audition to make audiobook and podcast and screencast video tutorials?
I will work alone with one microphone only in my bedroom.
Thanks

I'll assume that initially you won't want to spend a fortune, but also, you won't want stuff that you will later regret purchasing. And to do this sensibly, you'll want to spend a bit more money on the microphone than on the external sound device.
For a microphone, you could do a lot worse than to get a Rode NT1-A complete vocal recording solution. With the kit, you get a mic cable, shockmount, pop shield, a bag for it - and also a tutorial DVD, but you can safely ignore that... The kits are generally available at quite a competitive price, and Rode microphones have a good value-for-money reputation. You'll still need some sort of a stand, either desk or floor mounting - but they're easy to find.
For a sound device, you could consider something like the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB interface. This has all the useful bits you'll need - like the ability to plug a pair of headphones into the front for direct monitoring. Focusrite kit has a good reputation, and isn't overly expensive for what it is. This is a basic solution that would actually let you use two mics if you wanted, so there's a little room for expansion if you need. If you want to spend less money there are options like the Tascam US-122 - but I'd personally spend just a little more on the Focusrite - they have better mic preamps.
Yes you'll need a pair of headphones, but here the choice is rather up to you, although I'd recommend that you look at Beyer and Sennheiser for clean consistent results, although they aren't the only ones. You need closed-back ones though if you use them near the mic - something like the Beyer DT-250 is a good choice, because they have replacable leads, and the feed is into one side of the headphone only - and they're comfortable.
Since I don't know where you are located, I don't know what this is actually going to cost you, but it's good basic kit that should last you for a while, and produce decent results without spending a fortune. Yes it's possible to spend a heck of a lot of money on stuff like this, but the law of diminishing returns sets in quite early, and you can get remarkably good results these days without spending a lot at all. There are a few brands that are generally better avoided, like Behringer. Nothing wrong with Behringer electronics, but they economise on their hardware, and invariably things like sockets stop working, and knobs fall off. Oh, and they use cheap level controls etc, and these become noisy quite fast. You get what you pay for - it's cheap but it won't last long before you experience trouble.

  • What is the best audio interface to buy to record drums?

What is the best audio interface to buy to record drums?  Looking for something with 8 inputs to mic my drum kit.  Don't want to go past $1,000.  Been looking at the Presonus Firestudio and M-Audio Profire 2626, for example.  This is my first time setting up a home studio so any suggestions would be appreciated!
    Thanks.

The MOTU interfaces are a good value, and as Pancenter notes, they have rock-solid drivers.  I've had good experiences with the Traveler, although I'd bypass the mic pres if possible.
And if you're able to spend a bit more, the Metric Halo 2882 also has excellent drivers and noticeably-better sound--it's my fave in the <$2k range.  If you can find a used Apogee Ensemble, that's another great-sounding interface, although it can't match the latency performance of the MOTU or Metric Halo.  So, for software instruments, the Ensemble is not a good choice, but for recording acoustic drums, a used one for $1300-1500 would be excellent.

You would have to web-order directly from Apple. Retail stores and resellers usually do not stock refurbs. All the Macs in our family that are in current use are refurbs and have provided excellent service. None have arrived with any cosmetic defects.

  • Lost some Audio on the multitrack of Adobe Audition 3

I know that this discussion pertains to the Audition problems past CS5.5, but I need major help with something that happened in Adobe Audition 3.  I have a file that I may of resaved a file or something and then it started showing up almost as missing.  If you look closely at the picture you can see some of the audio files have red lines, but then when I click on files with the red lines you can still go into the edit mode of the audio file.  This is the second time it happened to me.  This is a problem that happened to me only this week and I didn't have it before.  I loaded up the same project that I had on my other external hard drive where the problems didn't exist when I saved them, but then the same problems came up on my backup drive!  I loaded my Adobe Audition 3 disk in and had it repair the program and that still didn't work.  I never uninstalled Adobe Audition 3.  Does anyone think I should uninstall AA3 and reinstall it?  I thought that maybe having Adobe Audition CC would cure this problem.  I downloaded it and I saved the multitracks as an xxl file and the problem still exists on Adobe Audition CC.  Is anyone familar with this bizzare problem?  What makes the problem more bizzare is the fact that the problem also occured on the backup drive and I am 100% positive that the problem didn't exist when I put it on my backup drive.  Can anyone help me with this problem?

The three clips all look like they belong to the same file - I assume that is the file that "started showing up almost as missing"
What exactly does 'almost as missing' mean?
Does the file exist in the location referenced?
What happens if you drag that audio file into another session?

  • Is there any alternative vst plugins for adobe audition similar to Vocalign or how to install vocalign?

I'm pretty sure it works for it but i can't get it to load when i install it in a folder and update my plugins through adobe audition. Anyone know how? or anyone know an alternative to that plugin, a plugin that aligns two takes of a the same vocal to make the timing correct?
I know some exist but i can never get one to work perfect with adobe audition.

There's a perfectly good solution built into Audition CS6 and CC - you don't need a plugin at all.
In Multitrack, go to Clip, and you'll find a menu item called Automatic Speech Aligner. It's meant to work with speech only (as they all are) but in fact it works pretty well with sung vocals. I'd give that a go first before looking for any other solution.

  • Can I get context sensitive offline help for Adobe audition?

I've linked the CS6 Help PDF successfully to F1, but that's very clunky when you're trying to figure out an effect and the link that says "Shows help for this effect" is broken.  I recall CS5 and 5.5 had context sensitive help.  I know for sure Audition 3.0 does.  I'm a US contractor that's forward deployed and an Internet connection is not something we can take for granted.

    Charles,
Thanks for the reply.  I've been to that site and have followed the instructions.  What that gets you is a general help PDF document that opens when you push the F1 key.  If you navigate around Audition CS6 there are various places where you'll see a small "I" in a circle.  If you hover over it with your cursor, a balloon pops up saying "Get help for this..." and references the function you're in, for example an effect.  If you're online and click on it, it opens the relevant web page on the Adobe support site.  If you're not online, you get nothing.  This is not the case in Audition 3.0 and if I recall right, 5.0 and 5.5 where you get context sensitive help for various effects and other functions stored with the program on your computer, like most programs from other vendors.
I think the basic problem is Adobe is so wedded to their "Creative Cloud" model that they're impairing their product.  Aside from my own philosophical objections to cloud computing, Adobe is totally missing out on emerging markets and economies.  I'm currently in Afghanistan working with locals on building the country's broadcast industry.  There are a lot of talented people here that work in radio production and they all use Adobe Audition, but version 3.0 exclusively.  Most can't afford CS6 and Adobe Audition CC is useless because of the pricing structure and the lack of reliable Internet.  This is also true for other countries I've visited.
Sorry for the soapbox tirade, and thanks again for the reply.  I think you've confirmed that the answer I'm looking for doesn't exist.  If you can check and see if I'm wrong, I'd love to know that.  I'm thinking of rolling back to Audition CS 5.0 or 5.5 and I'd rather not.
    Regards,
    Steve

  • What is the best Book or online class for Adobe Indesign, Photoshop & the rest in Australia?

    Hi All,
I live in australia and love using the creative cloud platform. I would like to further my training both basic and advanced in a few of the services. Is there a good set of books or physical online class (like through Seek learning etc) for Adobe??
    Regards,
    Sam

You can't beat the online www.Lynda.com online classes.
If you want a beginner's book on InDesign, I recommend Sandee Cohen's InDesign Visual QuickStart Guide (Peachpit Press). For an advanced class, look for Real World InDesign (Peachpit Press).

  • What is the best digital microscope to buy for optimal compatibility with the Mac?

I do not know which scope to buy for optimal compatibility. Any help one can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Omax digital microscope works great with Macs.  What you have to do is ignore the cd that comes with it that contains Windows software and connect the scope to your computer.  Boot up the Phone Booth app and it will display what is viewed in the scope.

  • Serial Key code for Adobe Audition not working

I purchases Adobe Audition CS6 last week and I keep getting the message “The serial number you entered is invalid. Please try again. Customer Service" The company Leximart that I bought CS6 provided me  with a cserial key code that doesn't seem to work. Leximart is impossible to get a hold of by phone and there is nobody live to talk to at Adobe. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Brad

Brad you can try registering the serial number to determine if it is valid.  You can find details on how to register the serial number at Find your serial number quickly.  If the serial number is unable to be registered then please contact the party which you purchased Creative Suite 6 from.

  • Instruments for Adobe Audition CC

    Hello everyone,
is there a way to use instruments in Adobe Audition?
    Thanks

adobe isn't a music company, so not really. any other daw should do music, support vsti, midi, and many other standard features not in audition. pro tools is the industry standard and is releasing a free version but im not sure what limitations it will have. studio one, reaper, cubase, and logic(mac) are just a few of the many others... find one with the price and features you need.

  • Best audio format to embed for export to pdf?

Hello, I was wondering what format for audio file would be best to embed for exporting to pdf. I want to embed the audio file in a button, for playback on mouseover in the exported pdf. Previously, when I had CS3, I actually had to convert my mp3s to avi files, as (believe it or not) that turned out to be the only format that would play back properly with a toolbar in the pdf, and only after I changed the media player (from quicktime to flash) for EACH audio file in the pdf. It was a headache trying to embed hundreds of audio files and I'm just wondering if CS5 has improved.

Steve, that's (if I remember right) why I had to convert my mp3s to avi when I used CS3; because when I played them back in the exported pdf there was no controller-- but there was for avi. The problem I then had was with Acrobat/reader, which had quicktime set as the default player, so when I clicked the button to play the audio (avi) file, the pdf froze. This I solved by changing the default player FOR EACH audio file in the document (there were over 400) to adobe flash player; and because the audio was avi, as you say, a nice controller appeared, which disappeared once the audio finished. This was an OK workaround, if it wasn't for the fact that because I was using the flash player, the interactive pdf couldn't be used by mac users-- which many of the ebook's readers are. D'oh! So now I'm thinking to just stick with the mp3 format, now that Indesign can handle mp3s, and as you say, create buttons for stop and playback; this also solves the problem of having to post-export adjust the player settings for each file, which is not very fun, because when you edit the indesign document for future versions, it's kind of an annoyance to import pages to replace pages in the pdf without replacing the audio files. Anyway. Steve thank you for thinking out the finer details of my issue; I appreciate it and will have a go at making buttons, and let you know how that goes for such an interactive pdf. Thanks also Bob for the reply.
