Best battery practices?

I'm interested in making my Touch battery last as long as possible. It's suggested, at minimum, to cycle the battery once a month to make sure it's in good health.
What's the optimum method for maintaining the health of your battery? Cycle a minimum of once a month (as Apple suggests)? Or more often? It turns out that I use it a lot at night, with the wall charger connected.

It's a lithium ion battery. Charge it when ever it needs it and don't worry about it. Letting it drain completely and then leaving it that way is the only really bad thing you can do to it in normal usage. Note that if it gets really cold, it will drain more quickly however, this is a temporary change in behavior. You can leave it on the charger; it won't hurt anything.
As best I can tell, cycling it once a month is just for calibrating the battery indicator.
It is a rechargeable battery and it will eventually stop holding a charge. At that point, you'll need to chose whether to have the battery replace or buy a new iPod because, by that time, there will be much cooler ones available.
Best of luck.

  • Using iPhone as a music player at work...best battery practice?

I'm using my iPhone as a music player at work. I have a power cable (one that plugs into the wall, not a computer) and am wondering if it will harm my battery's longevity if I leave the power connected all day.

You do not have to worry about your iPhone overcharging, but all li-ion batteries need to get some "exercise," so be sure you use the phone on battery power from time to time to ensure longest battery life.

  • Good Battery Practice?

I've just recently ordered my MacBook-- and though I haven't received it yet, I am still curious about good battery practice. If anything, I really want mine to last, and typically if asking just anybody off the street you'll get everything from "put your battery in the freezer" to "take out your battery, when not in use".
Any thoughts? Should I charge it fully, then let it run out before I recharge? Should I use the adapter whenever I have the chance, regardless of the battery charge?
I'm also curious whether I have to charge the battery before first use out of the box-- I looked through manual online, and I didn't see anything on that topic.

It is OK to leave your battery hooked to the charger most of the time. The only time I unhook mine from the charger is when I calibrate or for a few minutes to use in another room. You should calibrate every two months or so to keep the battery fully functioning. If you use your MacBook infrequently, it’s best to re-calibrate the battery at least once a month.
It is best not to use your battery unless you need to. Some people have hurt their batteries by charging then discharging every time they use the MacBook. This will age a battery very fast and cause you to buy a battery sooner than you should have too. Don't discharge the battery just because you used it. Li-Ion batteries prefer small charges over big ones. Use it and then plug it in as soon as you can. The only time my Battery is ever fully discharged is when I'm doing a calibration.

No just plug in your power supply and have fun. It will charge whie your using it. If you follow my other tips you should get long life out of the battery.

  • Best Battery Health not working in Windows 7 after Windows 8 installation

Hello everybody, I'm having an annoying problem with my G475.
It came with Windows 7 installed, and the option "Best Battery Health" was working fine.
Then I upgraded to Windows 8 (fresh install) and installed the Energy Management drivers.
Since "Best Battery Health" wasn't working on Windows 8, I installed back Windows 7 (fresh install).
But now, the option "Best Battery Health" is not working anymore!
It stays checked in the software, but the battery keeps charging until 100 percent.
I did the "Battery Gauge Reset". It finished and the problem persisted.
I also tried to change settings in safe mode, didn't work.
    Please help!

    hi kauptman,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Community.
Just want to verify, have you also installed the following in order:
    1. Intel Chipset Driver
    2. AMD Matrix Storage Manager Driver v1.2.1.210
    2. Lenovo Energy Management v6.0.1.5
If the apps listed above are already installed, I recommend you:
    1. Drain the battery (use the computer until it prompts you that the battery is low)
    2. Change your power plan settings to Power Saver / High Performance and re-test if battery stops charging at 90% or 95%.
If the problem still persist, I recommend you restore the unit by using the Lenovo Recovery Disc. If the recovery partition is still intact, click here on how to create a facotory restore dics.
    Hope this helps.

  • Satellite S2410-504: What is the best battery?

    Hi All
I am a complete noob to this but hope that someone can help me out. I have a Toshiba Satellite but I am not sure what model - it says on the back it is s2410-504. Anyways I have had it for about 3 years and I think the battery is kaput since it only stays on for about 15 minutes if unplugged from mains, even when fully charged.
The battery life has always been a bit short. What is the best battery that I can get for my laptop and how long will it last on most energy saving option?

    Hi Cedric,
Battery life is very much dependant on the type of applications that you run on the notebook. Generally speaking, applications which make use of the hard drive or the optical drive will use more battery power than those which are more CPU bound. This is purely because of the amount of power needed to drive the hard drive and optical drive.
In addition, the battery life can be extended to a degree by conditioning the battery as per the Toshiba recommendations, namely to allow the battery to fully discharge periodically and then fully recharging it. By contrast, never allowing the battery to discharge either by keeping the notebook permanently connected to the AC supply or by constantly topping it up when it is only partialy discharged will shorten the battery life.
In your case, if you only get 15 minutes use from your notebook when it is on a fully charged battery then I would definitely recommend a new battery, especially given that the old one is three years old.
As to battery performance, it is usually better to obtain a genuine Toshiba battery although other compatible brands can usually match the original in terms of performance. I would always be wary of batteries which are exceedingly cheap or from a dubious source.
    regards,

  • Personal Best Battery Time

Got my best battery time yesterday. 8:48 use and 1 day 4 hrs standby. I have to admit I wasn't using anything that taxing. No games but several calls, a lot of web and some Youtube. I don't expect to get this every day but I was impressed. I usually get about 4 + hrs. of use.

It all depends what you do. "Usage" is to generic to make accurate comparisons. It all depends on what you do. I can get 12 hours usage and 2 days standby if I only do music. Unfortunately the usage meter doesn't break things down beyond seperating between "calls minutes" and being "on". There is no way to distinguish between 4 hours of data or 4 hours of music except for inferring from the data usage section. Just saying I got 8 hours of battery time doesn't tell the full story.
The iPhone is rated for the following:
    Talk time:
Up to 5 hours on 3G
Up to 10 hours on 2G
Standby time: Up to 300 hours
    Internet use:
Up to 5 hours on 3G
Up to 6 hours on Wi-Fi
Video playback: Up to 7 hours
Audio playback: Up to 24 hours
Now these times are for individual functions. To get 300 hours of standby, you have to have everything off. To get 7 hours of video, you probably need the screen on its lowest brightness and have the phone in Airplane mode with WiFi and other services off. Same for Audio playback.

    Hi,
Lets first start from your Select Statement.....Replace your SELECT ....ENDSELECT by SELECT Into Internal Table
Your program is having a SELECT...ENDSELECT within LOOP...ENDLOOP........One should avoid doing this as far as possible.
    SELECT  mkpf~mblnr
                  mkpf~xblnr
    INTO itab
    for all entires i_list
    from    mkpf inner join mseg

           and mseg~sobkz = i_list-sobkz
           and mseg~werks = i_list-werks
           and mkpf~budat in budat.
Restructure youe complete code with this approach and Share your Finding's.
You can also think of using a SAP Standard FM.

  • Best/Easiest Practice for Distribution of Webhelp files for Fat(ish) Client Application

So another in my long line of questions in trying to change the implementation of the help systems at my new employer.
So, the pressure is to convince the existing guard to toss out the old method and go with a new method... One of the issues has come up for CSH Webhelp (via RH10)...
Apparently, in the old method (where every help topic was it's own CHM - no, I'm not kidding).  They kept it that way so that any time a help file was updated, they could just send out that one chm to update that one topic.
Now they are worried that if we switch to webhelp using topics in one single big project that we can't just send out a single updated file any more...
So I'm trying to get ammunition as to how updates to the help can be distributed without it being a big hassle...
We do have small updates that go out about every week, and they are afraid that going to the webhelp (1 project with lots of topics) method will require more time and effort for the techs because they will have to complete the update of a huge help system every time.
One solution we have suggested is that we only update help files on major releases and add any changes to help procedures in the Release Notes or in a separate PDF and also include a note that the help files "will be updated to reflect this change in the XX/2015 XYZ Release).
Does ANYONE have any other ideas of how distribution could be done efficiently so that we don't have to continue this "project per topic" fiasco?
    HELP!!! PLEASE!!!!

Amebr - you hit the nail on the head... i want to apologize to everyone for all this mass hysteria...but this has been a freaking rollercoaster... one day they are happy with the plan, the next day they decided they want to complicate it more... So now my job is to find out how viable and how tricky and perhaps how dangerous it will be to send out JUST the files that have been changed.  Especially for CSH!
Anyone have any experience with this or have any advice?  Peter?  I suspect you might know how this might work... are they any pitfalls to watch out for.. I just have this fear of sending out a few files from an entire project... Altho, it appears when I publish, ONLY the files that have been edited in some way show a new date.. that includes non-topic files - so i'm assuming sending all those will keep the TOC, Index, and Search features working properly... as well as incoming and outgoing links from an edited topic?
Another question would be how to handle new images in a project... as the image folder tends to be the largest, i don't want to have to send the entire image folder... Thoughts...????  Advice?  Jeff? Peter? Amebr? Bueller?  Bueller?  Bueller....?
