Best book for learn FCE

Hi all, I have decided to make the leap from iMove to FCE and was thinking of buying a book to read about the software. Can any of you make some recommendations?
Thanks for any help

Two excellent resources, IMHO:
Final Cut Express Editing Workshop by Tom Wolsky
Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Express by Diana Weynand
Each is around $25-30 on Amazon.
Mr. Wolsky is a frequent contributor to this forum, so that book gives you the added advantage of being able to go "right to the source" with a question.

You could qualify for the TV program "Hoarders".
Or be praised for not giving up on something that still works.

  • What's the best book for an FCE beginner?

Any suggestions for a good book on FCE HD?
    Thanks!

Hello Everyone! This is my first post. I just received my MacBook Pro, and after too many years using a PC, I'm back in business as a Mac user! I've got tons of video (old & new) to edit, and I tried to do some things with iMovie. It was simple to use, but I thought it seemed particularly limited in the area of audio. Anyway, I purchased the Final Cut Express 4 software, and was immediately bewildered by the complexity of it. So much to learn!
I saw these previous comments regarding Tom's book, and with due deference to Tom, was wondering about the other books available as well. I plan to purchase his book, but would like to have some candid comments about other books...especially ones to avoid! Thanks, and wish me luck!
    Cheers, Bill

  • What's the best book to learn Adobe Illustrator for GUI ?

What's the best book to learn Adobe Illustrator (I want to use it for iOS graphical user interface design):
    - Realworld Illustrator
    - Illustrator CS5 Bible
    - Lynda.com Illustrator Essential
    - Lynda.com for Web and Interactive Design
    thanks

    Howdy.
I can't say which is best, but I like  the Visual Quickstart Guide from Peachpit Press. I have it for Photoshop and Illustrator. As the title states, it's for a quick start. A concise description of every tool and option, with simple, easy to follow instructions with screen shots. I have Photoshop CS3, and have well over 10,000 hrs in Ps and have several newer Ps books. But my tattered old Visual Quickstart Guide for Ps 6 is still my first resource when questions arise.
So far as Illustrator goes, I'm only about 100 hours into it, and so far, so good. But it could be just be a case of ignorance is bliss. Mike has thoughtfully posted the link for Peachpit Press above. You can check it out yourself.
    Peace,
    Lee
P.S. Here's a direct link to the guide for Illustrator.

  • For beginners: best book to learn Garageband 'll

Friends in Garagebandland: I'm looking to find the best book/manual to get up to speed on using Garageband '11. I need to relearn Garageband -- it's been years since I used it -- and I used it with 10.2.4 and learned it with the great missing manual for Version 1. There hasn't been a missing manual for Garageband in ages and the new version looks a lot different from what I was used to.
Will you recommend the best book for a non-techie to take advantage of the new Garageband. I did a bunch of sound poems years ago, using stuff I recorded on a tape recorder and the music that came with Garageband. Let me know. Thanks.

Friends in GarageBand land:  I'm still looking for that perfect book to help beginners to GarageBand learn GarageBand 11.  The suggestion for the book, "GarageBand '11 Power!" -- well, this is not the book.  The author is passionate but spends the first 58 pages telling you what he is going to tell you later in the book, so a reader must keep slogging along, not really being told anything, not learning any real how-to tips or new-you-can-use until ... who knows when?
Sadly, this book does not fill the niche for the beginner.
Wish there was a MIssing Manual edition for a later GarageBand issue.  I'm picking up how-to tips from various places.  The Missing Manual for GarageBand 1.1 was terrific.

  • What is the best up-to-date, reliablely accurate book for learning PowerShell?

    Hi,
In my previous thread, I asked why "get-disk" gave me an exception.  Thanks to this forum, I found out that WIN 7, doesn't support the cmdlet.  The book I'm using did not mention this information.  In fact, he distinctly lists
Windows 7, SP 1 as a viable OS for the commands he wants the reader to perform.  I lost hours on this error.
    Se la vie.
However, I now doubt the book and don't have time to ferret out additional errata.  So, if anyone has a suggestion for a trustworthy book for beginners, please share your knowledge.
    Many thanks!

This is a duplicate.  This system is gebnerating hundreds of dupes because of constant server errors.

  • Best book for Web Services

Can you suggest me what's best book for Web Services and XML to study? I'm planning to buy..
    Thanks in advance..

Why does it need to be the best one? What would that even mean? Just buy something reputable, like an O'Reilly book, it's not going to be so horrifically poor that you can't learn from it

  • Best books for a beginner.

I am in a Java class right now, and the material as it has been presented has been very confusing. I really want to get a good understanding of Java, my question is: What are the best books for someone that is starting to learn Java? I was looking through different reviews of Java books, and Just Java 2 by Peter van der Linden sounds good, but I want the book to explain Java in the simplest form as possible.
If I could get some more recommendations I would appreciate it.
    Thanks.

Head First Java is wonderful, but I wouldn't use that book on its own. It's a lot of theory, but very few examples and no programming exercises. Some books tell you how to do something, but they don't tell you why it works, so you end up unable to program anything that isn't exactly like what they showed you. Head First Java really gets into the why and it's great for making you think like a programmer, especially if the object-oriented thinking isn't coming naturally. But you need a book that has more of a tutorial format in addition to Head First.

  • Best book for beginner?

    Hello,
Can anyone recommend the best book for a complete novice to Illustrator?
Ive a background in GIS and am wanting to learn to improve my cartographic skills.
Does anyone know if theres a book out there that caters towards cartography in illustrator?
Anyway to get started and learn the basics any preference between Adobe Illustrator CS5 Classroom in a Book:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adobe-Illustrator-CS5-Classroom-Book/dp/032170178X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U TF8&qid=1306750888&sr=8-1
    and
The Adobe Illustrator CS5 Wow! Book:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adobe-Illustrator-CS5-Wow-Book/dp/0321712447/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qi d=1306750974&sr=8-1
    Thanks for any help/advice!!

The WOW book is really for someone with a working knowledge of illustrator and in my opinion pretty useless especially for a beginner.
Classroom in a Book is an instructional book with tutorials to follow and will give you a working knowledge of how Illustrator works.
Mordy Goldings Book Real World Illustrator will give essentially instructional use of the program similar to informatio in the help files but in an instructional way organized fro the beginning to to end of the features.
As far as for Cartography I do not know why there is not one on the market as one of he contributors to the WOW book is a cartographer.
Illustrator is used a lot by map makers so it would probably be a good idea to have such a book.

  • Suggest a good book for learning?

    Hey, all.
Trying to get into the automating/scripting thing as I've started a new job that has to do a lot of versions of similar animations/illustrations. I'm no programmer, but have had some success with simple AppleScripts in Illustrator and Photoshop, but After Effects doesn't like to play nice with AS. So I figure I may as well focus my efforts on ExtendScript/JavaScript to work with all the apps, be cross-platform, plus help with my limited Expressions knowledge.
So can anyone suggest some good books for learning the JavaScript language? I've done online tutorials, which have helped a little, but just a big ol' consolidated JavaScript book, teaching the structure and syntax from the beginning (again, not a programmer by trade) would be best for me. Thing is, 95% of the books I've looked at are focused on web design, which I'm not that interested in. I'll use one if the core JavaScript teachings are well-presented and I can just ignore the web stuff; just don't want to buy a book that I'm only going to read half of and not learn everything I need to.
All suggestions welcome, and thanks in advance.

Hi there - lots of resources...
Look up "eloquent javascript" online for a pdf.
    Javascript - The Definitive guide
    NewThinkTank on youtube
    Codeacademy
Then it's the scripting guide for the other half.

  • What are the best resources for learning JSP?

In your experience, what have been the best resources for learning JSP? I am new to this, and so far have been plugging away at a "Dummies" book. Hopefully there are other inexpensive ways (I checked the book out at the library), to learn it, and possibly even less boring (though I doubt it). I can deal with the boring, but I was wondering if I was going about learning it the best way.

  • Good book for learning pl/sql quickly

Please suggest me a good book that covers all aspects of pl/sql in depth.
    Thanks in advance. :-)

A good book for learning PL/SQL quickly?
That is not a function of the book. That is a function of your ability to learn and understand new concepts. No book can make you learn "faster".
Also, even before trying to learn PL/SQL, there are concepts and fundamentals to understand. Specifically:
    - [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/toc.htm]Oracle® Database Concepts
    - [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14251/toc.htm]Oracle® Database Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals
    - [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14261/toc.htm]Oracle® Database PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference
And after that, also have a look at Application Developer's Guide - Large Objects, Application Developer's Guide - Object-Relational Features. Not to mention the SQL Reference and the PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference guides.

  • Recommended book for learning Illy?

I'm going to attempt to impart the joys of Illustrator to someone.
What would you recommend as the best book for them to purchase?
Classroom in a book?  Something else?

I could tell some things about the most famous (or most sold) Illustrator "schoolbooks" on the US American and European market (don't know the Asian or Australian market, or other markets).
But as the authors might be aggrieved about it, I'd only do one non-committal suggestion: Don't use those schoolbooks. Instead, dive into the programme and play and experiment like a girl with her toy blocks.
Almost always better than reading the schoolbooks. Some people, however, do need the schoolbooks. I do know and respect it.
