Best Burn Quality Encore CS 5.1

As I understand there are at least three ways to move a video from Premiere Pro to Encore: (1) move sequence via dynamic link (2) Make a movie in Premiere Pro (avi perhaps) then import in Encore for final transcoding and (3) Transcode in Premiere Pro. Which method will result in the best quality DVD, or is there no noticable difference? Input is appreciated. Thanks.

My personal choice is to export Widescreen DV AVI from PPro (AVCHD source) and then let Encore do automatic transcoding when building my DVD image... so I let Encore take care of all the calculation of "best fit" of movie length to selected single or dual layer disc
Other people prefer to export MPEG2 DVD from PPro, and then give the individual video and audio files to Encore for authoring
I do NOT use Dynamic Link, because I have read of some problems

My computer is using Snow Leopard 10.6.5 and has ilife 09 installed on an imac. I have been reading it is better to use imovie 06. When I tried to do a custom install from the 06 disk imovie and idvd were grayed out but had a checkmark. It would not let me deselect idvd. Not really knowing how to do this I quite the process. Can you or someone please advise me on how and what exactly to do in order to accomplish a custom install of imovie 06? Should I delete imovie 09 first? If so how is this accomplished. Perhaps it would be less complicated to purchase photo to movie? Really do not want to spend unless it is necessary since I only know a little about what I'm doing but enough to be dangerous to my computer

: DVD Burn: Quality vs Compression

Can anyone offer some guidelines and/or advice about how much video and audio to put on a single 4.7 GB DVD?
I am using PE 4.I have completed slightly less than half of my movie (about 1 hour including video, audio, & background soundtrack). I burned a trial DVD using the “Fit Contents To Available Space” Quality setting on the disk Burn Menu. The program says that the space required was 3.35 GB. Is this with or without compression?
The DVD looked ok when played on my home DVD player and analog TV.
I’m told that there can be a drop off in quality as the amount of compression increases.
How many more minutes should I put onto this DVD before I begin a second disk (PE project)?

By definition, a DVD is highly compressed when edit video is turned into viewing video
For SD (Standard Definition, what goes on a DVD) it takes about 13Gig per hour of edit video
That is compressed into MPEG-2 and then converted to VOB to go on a DVD
Exactly how much you fit on a DVD, at what level of viewing quality, is a subject much discussed
Hollywood studios use multi-pass software and will also set coding options by scene, to get the best possible quality
If you have a lot of motion (filming a soccer match) you can fit less high quality video on a DVD
If you are filming a lecture with someone static on stage, you can fit more and still retain quality

I have several old Hi8 tapes that were imported into iMovie 10x and need to find the best export quality for these uncropped 4:3 videos. They will be exported via "Share > File" into an MP4 file format (with H.264) and then sent to a third-party DVD program. So, what resolution and quality settings do I use?
Do I use the highest resolution (1280x720) and then gauge down the custom quality until it can fit on a 4.7GB DVD?
Do I use whatever resolution that can handle the quality of "High" and still fit on a 4.7GB DVD?

DVD is as standard - Interlaced SD-Video quality - Whatever Video-DVD authoring program used (e.g. iDVD, Toast etc)
Feeding iDVD Higher resolution and Progressive material - Will not improve the final DVD but decrease the quality as iDVD do a bad job in downscaling.
To get best possibly result I do
- Use a Video-Editing program that can handle - Interlaced SD-Video quality - as iMovie up to HD6 and any version of FinalCut.
iMovie'08 to 11 can not do this in full.
- Export as QuickTime .mov (just straight off) - if iMovie HD6 then just drop the Movie project icon into iDVD (All Quality is preserved)
- Brand of DVD used - I only use Verbatim
- Type of DVD used - RW-DVD usually do not work. R+DVD only works on Newer DVD-players - I use R-DVD
- BURN SPEED - I set as low possibly
- Free Space on Boot Hard Disk (Mac OS/Start-up one) - never less than 25Gb
This should deliver best possibly result.

Given the fact your PAL movie is only 15 mins. long in terms of QT playback, here are the settings I'd recommend if you're concerned about higher quality playback:

What pref' settings will give me the VERY BEST audio quality, when importing original audio CD's into iTunes 4?
File size is of no issue (I have TONS of storage). I aim to import all at the highest quality possible (files need to be "broadcast quality" - for playing through a big PA system). I have been advised to either.....
1. Import using the AAC encoder at a stereo bit rate of 320 kbps with a sample rate of 48.000 kHz.
2. Import using AIFF (lossless uncompressed).
3. Import using Apple Lossless (lossless compressed).
WHICH ONE SHOULD I USE? Bearing in mind that the files will be played LOUD through a professional PA system & I'd prefer the crowd not to notice a significant diference between iTune files & orginal audio CD's (I will be spining both, side by side).

My experience with classical music (and music in general) is that the higher the bitrate, the better the quality and richness of the music. On the other hand, there is a limit to how much distinction your ears can make, and I think that anything above 192 kbps (mp3 format) is not significantly better (and not worth the larger file size). And in terms of volume adjustment, I personally have not found any need for it.

I copied the same CD to my computer in 128, 160, 192, and 320 bitrates, and I couldn't tell a difference between any of 'em. I was listening to them with Grado SR60 headphones too.

I’m sure you will get several if not many responses. You may also find they vary with the preference of the individual. However there are some rules of thumb. Generally speaking I think you will indeed find the higher the bit rate brings you closer to the CD sound.
Certainly, 32-bit rate does not offer very good sound quality. Actually going from 32 to 320 should have been noticeably better, if not…. Then you’re in good shape. Because what you don’t know is there, can’t be missed.
Also, the bit rate is only part of the equation. What format codec <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=51910> are your songs ripped to.

It sounds to me as though your songs may be in MP3 format. As a suggestion you might try ripping your CD’s to 128 AAC format. The general consensus is that AAC is better than MP3. Give it a shot…for the heck of it, and see what you think.
Finally in the end…..it matters little what we all might think….If you think your sounds are better ripped at a MP3 320 bit rate……Great. If not…experiment, and play around till you find what sounds wonderful to you!

I did a Get Info on a typical piece in my iTunes and got this
Kind: AAC Audio File
Bit Rate: 128kb (have some at 192 & 2 or 3 at 320)
Sample Rate: 44.100 kHz
Profile: Low Complexity
Channels: Stereo
Volume: +2.3
I was troubled that one responder couldn't tell the difference among 128, 160, 192, and 320 bitrates even using Grado SR60 headphones!
And another seems to be of a similar opinion when he says that I think that anything above 192 kbps (mp3 format) is not significantly better (and not worth the larger file size). Does this apply to AAC format, too?
However, I am going to continue to add tunes at the 320 bitrate - for a while - because I swear that I can tell a difference when I play them over my car radio via the cassette adapter.

I heard that AIFF Encoder is the best sound quality you can import your music into Itunes. On the settings for AIFF Encoder do you know what Sample Rate, Sample Size, and what Channel I should set it to? Should I just leave them on Auto? How about if I have a HDCD? What are your suggestions?

I agree use Apple Lossless. Bizarrely it is also easier to share Apple Lossless with Windows Media Player than AIFF.
I have my entire iTunes library in Apple Lossless and shared with WMP and also Media Center 2005. I can also use it in full lossless quality with Roku SoundBridge, Apple TV, iPhone, iPod, etc. etc. etc.

Had same problem with iPhoto pictures and poor burn quality. Went back to original picture file and dragged images into idvd project from there. Set encoding at professional quality and burned at slowest speed. Got very good result with high quality slideshow when played on TV.
Also tried Old Toad's Aug 30, 2011 advice to get a slideshow into iDVD with transitions, music, etc. from iPhoto.
Again the quaility of the burned CD was very good.

How do I get the best image quality on Plasma HD display?

I have lots of pictures taken with a 7 Megapixel camera, I've made some slideshows it iPhoto.
I have a 42 inch HD plasma TV with HDMI and component video inputs, how do I hook my Powermac to the plasma TV to see the best possible quality on my plasma TV.
I imagine it should be through the HDMI input, but how do I connect the DVI output of my G4 to the Plasma TV?

Hey guys, have a quick question. I'm making drum covers for YouTube, and I want the best possible quality for my viewers. I use Final Cut Express 4.0.1 on my MacBook Pro, and Log and Transfer the video footage from a HDR-CX160 Sony AVCHD Handycam. What are my best options?

In every aspect of life there is no such thing as one best option as it all depends on your particular circumstances.
Here is a good starting point for you to decide what suits you best.
When you have edited your project in FCE try these settings:-
Select File>Export>Using QT Conversion.
Click the "Options" button and when the the Options window opens you will see "Size", "Settings" and "Sound" buttons.
Click the Size button and set 1920 x 1080
Click the Settings button and select:-
Compression Type . . . . H.264
Frame Rate . . . . . . . . . Current
Key Frames . . . . . . . . . Automatic
Compressor Quality . . . High
Encoding . . . . . . . . . . "Faster" encode will give almost the same quality as "Best" but is twice as fast - your decision!
Data Rate . . . . . . . . . . Restrict to 10,000kbps (Don't use a comma when you enter the number)
Then click the "Audio" button and make sure that AAC has been selected.
These settings should give very good quality results fairly quickly, which should play well. Your file size will be around 5GB per hour.
Some people prefer to use the smaller 1280 x 720, in which case the Data Rate should be 5,000kbps.
I suggest you do a quick test with a film under one minute long to see how it looks as there is nothing worse than spending hours encoding a long project only to find that the settings were unsuitable.

C4780 scan this alignment page for best print quality problem

My C4780 photosmart printer is stuck in the "scan this alignment page for best print quality" loop.

I wonder how can i get a best possible quality out of After Effects? I dont care about size , i just want best quality.
Every time i record PC gameplay then i edit a little bit on After effects , but when i render it it loses some quality and when i upload on Youtube its not even 1080p. I mean i have option in youtube to watch it in 1080p but quality is not 1080p! Any advice?

At the moment, this isn't about "quality", this is about horizontal and vertical dimensions of the video, and guess what? You don't even MENTION them! Maybe you ought to try looking up those properties of your video clips and reporting back in.....

C4280 defaults to Best print quality in Excel

My C4280 for some reason always defaults to best print quality in Excel - other programs are OK. I have created several short cuts with draft print quality.
I can change the setting to draft , print it in draft, close the document then open it again & it will want to print in Best quality.

I actually answered my own question about setting up the highest quality print by performing the steps I outlined in the second paragraph of my initial post. After printing a couple of samples and studying the results with a loupe, I found saving the TIFFs with Zip compression as opposed to the maximum quality JPEG. files was the way to go although almost no one would know the difference without intense scrutiny. Honestly I'd prefer Adobe offer LZW instead of Zip as the option for how Acrobat deals with TIFF files but perhaps there's a technical reason which would preclude that option.
