Best Buy PC App Broken

I recieved a digital download of RAGE for PC for Christmas and I tried to download the PC app to get the cd key to paste into Steam. I tried it on THREE different computers and it locks up at startup and says "Not Responding" every single time. It worked a few times, but it said I wasn't connected to the internet when I was. I just want to play my game.

  • Completely remove "Best Buy PC App"?

    New laptop from Best Buy.  I need to remove the "Best Buy PC App" junkware from the computer, but the "Uninstall Program" control panel only removes it from the user who uninstalls it.  Other users still see the junkware installed when they first login, and must then uninstall it themselves.
    In other words, using the "Uninstall Program" control panel only seems to remove the junkware shortcut.  It doesn't appear to actually uninstall the program.
    How do I completely remove the "Best Buy PC App" from the system?

    coover: you mean Win7 uninstalls differently if i run the control panel as Administrator versus as a regular (administrative) user?  (the user i used did have administrator rights, but that's not the same thing as being Administrator in Win7.)  hmm.  i suppose that could make some kind of sense.  how do i run the control panel as the Administrator so that it's the Administrator uninstalling the app?  can i just "Run as Administrator" from the context menu?
    slimjim77: it's not about disk space.  it's about finding an answer to the question of how.  it's possible i'm doing something wrong; but it's also possible (and seems more likely) that the BB PC app has a broken uninstall routine.  if the former, i'll learn something.  if the latter, maybe posting this will get it fixed -- and if not, maybe it'll lead to instructions that others with the same question can find.  does that bother you for some reason?
    i did manually remove the shortcut under C:\Users\Default\AppData\...\StartMenu\Startup, and that prevented the app installing itself for new users.  can't look into more than that at the moment since i don't have the laptop with me.

    The install goes until almost the end, then ClickOnce fails, then the app doesnt load.

    I looked further, and then updated my .NET framework to see if that helped.  It didn't.  
    Is there a way to get the serial code for Guild Wars 2 that I bought, and I can just download the client from the guild wars 2 website?  Or maybe a patch for this?  Or someone who at least knows any way to fix it?

    I'm sorry for the delayed response.  You are likely not finding the PC App folder with a search because the folders are hidden by default.  To "Show Hidden Files"...
    Windows 7 or Vista:
    Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.
    Click the View tab.
    Under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then click OK.
    Windows XP:
    Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.
    On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
    Once you have that done, you should be able to find the PC App data files at that same location you were looking and delete them.

  • Best Buy PC App will not install or repair.

    Hey, sorry for this, but upon buying a PC game, the Best Buy PC app will not install. At first it went through the install wizard and all, but it wasnt installed anywhere on my computer. Then: After following the advice of a bestbuy online representitive, I searched my c drive and deleted all information and tried to re-install. Now instead of the "Install Now" option, there is the "repair". Upon selectring repair,  it says "Source file not found .... verify that the file exists and you can access it". I've tried all night to get this up an runnning. I've contacted customer service 6 times and am either told they dont know what to do, or I am put on hold for 45 minutes. If anyone has any solution, it would be much appreciated. Thanks again for your time.

    Welcome to the forum and thanks for letting us know you are having trouble with your PC App. Usually the "street name invalid" issue arises when there is a login disconnet. Try this:
    Log in to your account on Bestbuy.com
    Click "My Account"
    Click "Password"
    Change password
    Log into PC App using new Password

  • Trouble with Installing Empire: Total War; downloaded from Best Buy Pc app

    Hello,
    I have had troubles downloading and installing Empire: Total War. At first, I coudn't download it but I now have figured it out. I checked today after work and it successfully downloaded. The trouble now is that I have the files but can't seem to install them. I pressed the "install manually" button within the Pc app but nothing happened. Help would be appreciated!

    You should be able to locate the game data files here:
    C:\Users\ [User Name] \AppData\Local\Best Buy pc app\DigitalShelf\ [Your Game folder]
    In that folder there is likely an executable install file (.exe) that you could try.  If it's not there or that install method doesn't work, there may have been a problem during the download process and you'll want to try a re-download.  I know that not ideal as you ran into issues trying to download it the first time but hopefully it doesn't come to that.

  • Why won't this Best Buy PC App craplet uninstall?

    I don't appreciate the fact that when I try to uninstall this program as an administrator it remains on other accounts, and when I uninstall it from those it pops up again if I create a new user account. Why is this necessary and how do I get rid of this program completely?

    Archie has nothing to do with it and doesn't even remotely apply in this situation. Archie is NOT the utility that puts Best Buy pc app on the computers. They come packaged that way. Archie is put on DISPLAY model computers only. Yes the pc app has to be uninstalled on each user account and there is a thread on here somewhere where someone posted how they got rid of it for good. I'll try to find it an link it.

  • Best Buy PC App

    So I downloaded the Bestbuy PC App only to find that it is TERRIBLE.
    I was trying to buy Sims 3 World Adventures and I click on the download section on the BB website I was prompted to download the PC App.  I did and the first thing I noticed is that it wanted to run every time Windows starts.
    Next, I looked for the search button only to find that you can't search.  
    Once I actually found what I was looking for I couldn't find a way to use reward zone certificates for the purchase.
    The Android app is better then this thing!  Are you for real bestbuy??  

    Well you can have it not start every time windows starts, you can't use reward zone certificates because it is not like using bb.com to buy them and uses a third party download source so you can't use gift cards or certs, and there was a search button last time I saw it but I don't currently have it installed so I don't know for sure if that changed.

    Yesterday, I also purchased the game FEAR 2 Project Origins Windows Digital Download. It's in my Digital Library and when I click Download Now, I'm getting a pop up asking for a folder to download it to. When I try to save it to *any* folder (existing or a new one I create on my PC), I get the following message: "Please try again to save to a different location." I can't seem to save it *anywhere.* I've never had this problem before with previous downloads from Best Buy.

  • Best Buy PC App Digital Download Error

    I was downloading Mass Effect 2, and once it reaches 100% it says there is an Error, and that I need to restart my download.
    I have no idea why it is doing this.
    Also, when I enter my order number to try and get my serial keys to possibly download it on a different program, it says it can't find the order.
    Anyone else having this? Quite frustrating.

  • Best buy pc app error (digital download) please help

    Okay so the other day i purchased F.E.A.R 2: project origins for digital download. every time i get on the pc app i get an error saying there was an unexpected error with the application. if the problem persists please exit and try again.
    i have exited reinstalled the app turn on and off uac on my compter to try to get it to work and even running it as an admin.
    Please help nothing works thanks.
    my pc specs are old but are decent here they are:
    Dual Core intel processor @ 2.8ghz a core (rated at 3.36 per core)
    3gb ddr2 RAM
    Nvidia Geforce 210 1gb ddr2 pci express 2.0 x16
    600w psu (not that it matters)
    and yeah please help also i have windows vista home premium sp2 32 bit and i sucessfully downloaded Medal OF Honor on the app like a week ago so yeah help would be much appreciated!

    Are getting some kind of error when you attempt to download PC App?  If so, what error are you getting?  It would help to know exactly what happens and when.
    Also, make sure your laptop meets the PC App minimum system requirements:
    Windows 7, Windows Vista with service pack 1, or Windows XP
    1.0GHz processor or faster
    512 MB RAM (1GB recommended)
    50MB available hard drive space for installation; additional drive space required to download applications
    1024 x 600 display (1200 x 800 recommended) with 16-bit video card
    Broadband Internet connection required for online services.

  • BEST BUY PC APP "DOWNLOAD ERROR"

    Ok, I just payed 30 dollars for a freaking Sonic Generations download on my PC.. AND THEN, after I pay I find out you have to download some crappy 3rd party downloading system, and hey guess what? I can't download the effing game! Why does it keep saying error message? And don't give me none of that "delete and reinstall" b.s. because I've done that and it didn't change jack.

  • I ought a iPod at Best Buy yesterday I loaded 4 acts from the App Store on to it. All 4 of the apps do not work today but they didn't work when I installed them. They are Dragon natural speaking  Skype Facebook and Spotlity.  none of them will open

    I purchasedt an iPod touch from Best Buy yesterday. I loaded for apps from the App Store Dragon NaturallySpeaking Skype  Spotify  Facebook. All of these programs worked fine yesterday when I installed them. I start it up today  I try to activate the icon and it looks like it's trying to open but does not all were of them have the exact same symptoms.

  • Preorder deposit system is broken at Best Buy

    From searching this forum I know I'm not the only one having an issue with pre-order deposits. It's pretty stupid that I have to go back to the store to get my deposit back on a pre-order since Best Buys computers cannot apply the deposit automatically to the final payment. If they cannot fix the computers they should at least train the employees to make sue the deposit is applied. Pretty much common sense: "Oh you're picking up a pre-order, there must be deposit, let me get that applied." I have two other pre-orders that I'm concerned about, I really don't want to go through this mess again.

    Believe it or not, pre-order deposits should automatically be applied as long as the initial pre-order receipt is scanned at the time of pickup. We're aware of an issue that may intermittently prevent this from occurring though, and our stores simply need to void/return the transaction and re-ring the final sale to address this issue.
    With that in mind, you will regrettably need to return to your local store for assistance if you believe a pre-order deposit was not properly applied to one of your recent purchases -- we do not have the ability to address these issues remotely. I have confidence that an on-site rep will be able to help you out.

  • Best Buy is not a good business...

    I recently bought an iPad Air 2 from Apple.com, 3 days ago. I went into best buy to get a screen cover. The installer mishandled the new device and scratched it. I was a bit taken back, as I just bought this device for $700+ and took it in to be protected but walked out with the screen protector installed incorrectly and a scratch to the device. I asked what they would or could do and they offered a free protective case. I thought: "what's the point now? Yeah it will protect further damage but what about the damage done just now by the store?" I then asked if I bought a new iPad from them... could I return the broken one, they said no we can't do that, you will have to contact Apple. I then left the store and contacted best buy corporate on the phone who told me the same "we teach our technicians to use care so this wouldn't happen." So I again asked so "what can I do about this? it's a brand new iPad and I am confused as to why it cannot be replaced."
    He said no replacements, but maybe (and he said I can't make any promises.") I can talk to the store about potential reimbursement in the form of a $20 gift card. At that point I was quite surprised and annoyed but thanked him for his time and hung up.
    Best buy told me in a nutshell "oh we damaged your $700 device... Sorry, you snooze you lose."
    It amazes me on how a company like this treats their customers.
    I know people always say this when they have a bad experience at a store... But, I will never shop at best buy again, this was beyond poor service and business practice. I used to shop at best buy exclusively for electronics and am an "elite rewards member" but now i'd rather go to Walmart for electronics.
