Best capture codec?

What's the best capture codec for MPEG-2 HDV (HDV1 format, 8-bit, 19.7 Mbps), with the ultimate goal to send it to my client's drive as a DV/NTSC Quicktime file, 16:9, 853 x 480?

I guess I'm not being clear.
A San Diego production house hired me to do a shoot for their client. That client wanted it shot in HD, for whatever reason.
I sent the tapes to SD, they can't capture them into their FCP system, again for whatever reason (I've broached this topic on other forums).
I can capture the video fine on my FCP, so they're sending the tapes and a drive to me so I can capture the video to their drive and send it back, maintaining the full-res 720p30 video.
Yes, they did ask for "DV/NTSC."
Does this mean they don't know what they're talking about?
I suspect it's for the end client's website and he just thought "HD" sounded cool.

It seems like I am missing most of my capture codecs. Is there a way to import capture codecs and where can I find them online to download? Also what is the best sequence preset and capture preset to use when capturing DVCPRO 50 via firewire? Thanks.

I have reinstalled the entire final cut studio with no luck. I am running Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 and using a Panasonic DVCPRO 50 (AJ-SD93) deck to capture via Firewire. All my Mac info is listed below.

  • 1080psf 23.976 capture codec for Arri?

I need an update that includes a 1080psf 23.976 capture codec for Arri.

I am a working video assist on movie sets. I need the codec to capture a scratch track for playback purposes. The Arri outputs have a 1080p option, but the preferred codec of DIT's and camera operators is 1080psf. Video Assist is a job on movie sets that provides instant replay for Directors, Actors, Producers, Department Heads, Stunts, and Script Supervisors. DIT is the Digital Imaging Technition. The camera is cabled to a DIT who is cabled to the Video Assist. Simply put I need the codec to better perform my job, without having to spend $17,000 for Qtake software. Final Cut 7 has a psf codec, but Adobe Premier Pro is much nicer to operate.

  • Best Capture Setting for MiniDV

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best capture setting in FCP 6 for MiniDV tape (NTSC not PAL). Can I capture it with the Pro Res setting or should I capture it in another setting and then edit with the sequence setting set to Pro Res?

Capture and edit the material in its native format. DV-NTSC has it's own special Easy Preset. Select it and have at it.
You gain nothing except huge file sizes when converting DV into ProRes.

  • Sony Z7U Best Capture Settings

m have some basic questions about FCP capture settings.
I filmed onto tape the following settings on my Z7U:
    1080i 24p
    1080i 30p
I have seen that if you use tape you should use the following capture settings in FCP:
    HDV 1080i60 because the tape is not true 1080i 24p, 1080i 30p.
    Is this incorrect?
I have noticed that my footage is not as clean or as nice as when I filmed in 1080i 24p and
1080i 30p using the CF Cards.
So, What are the best settings to use in FCP6 for 1080i 24p, 1080i 30p tape capture
    presets?
Best capture presets for 1080i 24p, 1080i 30p using CF cards?
Pro Res files are huge and I dont have FCP7 yet.
Im looking for a preset that will be smaller in data size, easier to work with.

    David & Studio X,
Thank you for quick replies. Tape plays fine in DSR-11, it just looked squished up as if 16:9 in 4:3. Camera used was Panasonic hvx 200. Sony MiniDV tape. I need to be able to use it in shows with footage shot in NTSC for broadcast on SD Network.

  • Best Capture Preset?

I have a TVT-16 Telecine hooked up to Canopus ADVC55 digital converter box to capture 16mm film for archiving purposes. I was wondering what the best capture preset would be for this set up in FCP to maintain the framerate.

Use the stock DV NTSC (or PAL) preset... That matches what the Canopus is putting out: DV.

  • Best capture format

I have a Panasonic HVX200 P2. I shoot mostly in 480i 60. What is the best capture setting to use to bring into FCP. I have been using DV NTSC 48khz. Someone suggested I use apple ProRes HQ. Would this give me a better picture after all is said and done?

well, even with only 2 cards, you can copy them off to a drive and keep shooting or buy more cards, but if you don't want to shoot at a better quality in the first place, stick with what you are doing and edit in dv, you wont get better quality by transcoding dv to pro res.

  • Best Practice Codec for Prompts on UCCX 8.5

    Hi
I currently have a UCCX 8.5 cluster on promises with all the prompts with Codec G.711. Also, the UCCX is using the Codec G.711.
The company is requiring to change the system to codec G729 which will allow us to reduce bandwidth consumption as we have all our agents connected remotely over a MPLS Network. In addition to that, we don't local resources for transcoding. The transcoder are centralized in the same place as the CUCM and UCCX Platform.
Therefore, first off, what would the impact on changing the system and the prompts to G729, and  secondly, what would be the best practice in this scenario.
    I really appreciate any help.
    Thanks,

  • Best Export Codec for Monitor Viewing

    Hey everyone.
A quick question i hope, i am giving a presentation and showing some video clips i have edited using FCP Studio, i am having a problem however when exporting. All the video export files are very low quality; they appear very jagged with very pronounced horizontal lines across the image no matter what size i view them at.
I have tried using different codec’s, but none as yet really give me any better results, can anyone suggest any codec’s or any advice relating to this matter.
    Thanks in advance, regards, James.

what are the captured clips settings? highligt a clip in the timeline and press Cmd-9 ... tell us what it says under Format tab for:
Vid Rate, Frame Size, Compressor, Pixel Aspect, Anamorphic and Field Dominance
what are the sequence settings? with the timeline or canvas window active, press Cmd-0 ... tell us what it says under General tab for:
Frame Size, Pixel Aspect Ratio, Anamorphic 16:9, Field Dominance, Editing Timbase and Compressor
finally, exactly what are the settings you are using for your export ? give us all the details equivalent to the above ... also tell us how you are doing the export (Quicktime Movie, Using Compressor..., Using Quicktime Conversion...)
    thanks
    Andy

  • ...last question :  what's the best quality codec for exporting a clip?

I have to export a Motion clip with the best possible quality (with no loss of image or compression whatsoever).
what do you guys suggest? H264? or is there any better codecs? (I noticed that H264 create 'bleeding stains' on gradient backgrounds...)
    thats all, many thanks

  • Best capture for avermedia to premiere cs4

I realize through reading it is not likely that premiere will capture directly to this advice via usb 2.(from analog vhs player)
the software that came with it (cyberlink dvd) will only save the video to mpg, not avi.
does anyone know an option where I can capture high quality video/audio through this device to my hard drive in avi format (hopefully others as well)
free option is best as I only need to capture, software that does it all not needed as I of course want to edit in adobe products.
I also have premiere elements 2 and it doesn't work
    thanks very much
    slip

You are correct. PrPro will NOT Capture via USB.
I do not know your hardware, so cannot comment directly.
This ARTICLE might be helpful for going from analog to digital.
Now, I have an older copy of CyberLink's PowerDirector, and it will Export to DV-AVI. I do not know the specs. for CyberLink DVD though.
    Good luck,

  • The best export codec

    Hi all,
I am using FCP7. I have edited footage which I filmed on the JVC GY-HM100U. I brought it into FCP with the following info:
    Dimensions: 1440 x 1080
Codecs: XDCAM HD 108i50 (35 Mb/s VBR), Integer (Big Endian), Timecode
I want to do two different exports. The first to as crisp an HD film as possible (without the file size being absolutely ridiculous), and the second a slightly lower standard.
I have exported in the past using a codec which meant others could hear the sound but couldn't see the footage.
Essentially, when I export using Quicktime conversion, what do we think the best settings for me to use are? All advice would be welcome, I am a real beginner and find settings and codecs very confusing!
    Thanks, Guy.

    Thanks Brad,
The larger file will be for showing at conferences - so would you use compression type Apple ProRes 422 HQ for that?
The smaller files will be for uploading to websites.I think I have used H.264 in the past and it has been unable to play onother machines with Quicktime - I thought it was a codec which doesn'tcome with quicktime? I should have mentioned that I am in the UK andusing PAL, if that makes a difference.
And what do you mean by 'encoding the H.264 in compressor'? Not sure I know how to do that.
Ihave had problems when exporting in the past when lines appear on thefinal movie - is this to do with deinterlacing?Should I thereforeselect 'Deinterlace source video' when exporting? (I don't reallyunderstand what this is!)
    Thanks again.
