Best CDMA Phones for Mac - Suggestions Sought

Anyone have any suggestions on a good phone to sync w/my MacBook Pro & iMac? I'm limping along with numerous steps using iCal import/export, PhoneDirector and iCal Dupe Deleter. There must be a better way! Plus, I want to get email on my phone now. Tethering capability needed, also.
iPhone is out-of-the-question as my carrier in Alaska only runs CDMA.
Alternatively, any REAL solutions for CDMA iPhone compatibility?
Thanks in advance-

I hear good things about the Skull Candy earphones. I mean if you want the best, Bose, Beats by Dre are 2 of the best earphones, but they're over $100..haha

  • Lumia 920 does not sync with Windows Phone for Mac

I cannot sync any item between my Lumia 920 and with Mac.
Many users indicated that the problem encountered when syncing the Lumia 920 with Windows Phone for Mac is resolved by using the option "Allow access to folder" to the iTunes library. However, I have tried several times with many folders but cannot sync anything between my phone and my Mac.
I also modified the security options of my Mac by allowing the Windows Phone app to access my computer but with not success.
    Any suggestions?

  • What is best antivirus software for Mac Mini? Recently the Trovi virus was on my computer and I want to make sure it is completely gone.

What is the best antivirus software for Mac Mini?  I had thought Mac's were safer from viruses but recently I think the Trovi virus infected my computer, I have taken steps to remove but want to make sure computer is clean.

To learn how to defend yourself from the threat of adware read How to install adware.
There will always be threats to your information security associated with using any Internet - connected communications tool:
You can mitigate those threats by following commonsense practices
Delegating that responsibility to software is an ineffective defense
Assuming that any product will protect you from those threats is a hazardous attitude that is likely to result in neglecting point #1 above.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "clean up", "speed up",  "optimize", "boost" or "accelerate" your Mac; to "wash" it, "tune" it, or to make it "shiny". Those claims are absurd.Such products are very aggressively marketed. They are all scams.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources.
Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
"Questionable sources" include but are not limited to spontaneously appearing web pages or popups, download hosting sites such as C net dot com, Softonic dot com, Soft pedia dot com, Download dot com, Mac Update dot com, or any other site whose revenue is primarily derived from junk product advertisements.
If you need to install software that isn't available from the Mac App Store, obtain it only from legitimate sources authorized by the software's developer.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iCloud, iTunes, or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Beware spontaneous popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > check "Block popup windows".
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but unsolicited popups are commonly used to deceive people into installing unwanted software they would never intentionally install.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever receive a popup window indicating that your Mac is infected with some ick or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
The same goes for a spontaneously appearing dialog insisting that you upgrade your video player right this instant. Such popups are frequently associated with sites that promise to deliver movies or other copyrighted content "for free".
The more insistent it is that you upgrade or install something, the more likely it is to be a scam. Close the window or tab and forget it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. Most of these attempts are pathetic and are easily recognized, but that hasn't stopped prominent public figures from recently succumbing to this age-old scam.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • What is the best word processor for mac?  Closest to office?

What is the best word processor for mac?  Closest to office?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
On OS X, you have some good word processors:
    - Microsoft Word for Mac. Included in Office for Mac, it's the best option if you are going to use Word documents with your Mac > http://www.microsoft.com/mac
    - Pages. This iWork app is similar to Microsoft Word because both are word processors. This is a good app, too, that you can get from the Mac App Store > http://www.apple.com/iwork/pages/
    - LibreOffice. This free suite allows you to do everything that you can do with paid suites but with a free one. It's also open-source > http://www.libreoffice.org
You can read reviews of all of them in the Internet, but I personally prefer Pages. If you want something closest to Microsoft Word for PC, obviously the best option is Microsoft Word for your Mac

  • Is anybody know best image viewer for Mac..?

Is anybody know best image viewer for Mac..?
I like Windows Explorer Image view .. you just open one file and left and right will scroll though .. can do it in full screen too.
I try a Photo+ and everything is ok, but again must select all pictures or folder to open many photos. I click to one photo in folder, Photo+ open only clicked photos

Try this one... it's called Privcy
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/privcy/id828281323?ls=1&mt=12
Can easily navigate using cursor keys. What I like is that as you move past the last image it automatically shows the next folder or zip. Ideal for quickly looking at pictures.
Also you can paint/airbrush pictures immediately...

  • What is the best free antivirus for mac ox iBookG4?

Hi,what is the best free antivirus for mac ox iBookG4?

While no one may be bothering to write exploits in PPC code any longer, at least for Flash, that doesn't mean that there aren't any still floating around. The following doesn't specifically mention PPC/Intel, but that doesn't mean there weren't critical vulnerabilities being exploited for PPC in 10.1.102.64. I wouldn't want to take the chance.
Critical vulnerabilities have been identified in Adobe Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and earlier versions for Windows, Macintosh, Linux, and Solaris. These vulnerabilities could cause the application to crash and could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb11-02.html
    And, from TenFourFox
PowerPC plugins are unmaintained and insecure, and Mozilla is changing the plugin environment
No major plugin is being maintained for Power Macs any more: Flash stopped updates with Flash 10.1.102.64 in November 2010, and QuickTime 7 for the PowerPC was decommissioned with the release of QuickTime 7.7 and OS X Lion in August 2011. (Tiger users have not had an update since QT 7.6.4 in September 2009.)
Plugins have special access to the system. When they are instantiated by the browser, they run as if you were running any regular application, which is true even for out-of-process plugins (which were never available for 10.4Fx due to Tiger SDK limitations). Like any buggy or insecure application, they can be exploited or made to crash, and because the plugin runs within the browser, such methods can also be used to attack, spy upon or destabilize the browser as well. They have also been used to attack the network the computer is running on, and a well-crafted attack vector such as that example can run anywhere Flash does, including Power Macs. Because plugins load automatically by default when the page calls for them, your system could be exploited before you even notice.
Many of these attacks can be mitigated, though not entirely prevented, by the use of add-ons that can block plugins from loading. However, there is still another problem apart from security: Mozilla is changing the environment and the technical requirements for how plugins interact with the system. These technical requirements are difficult to achieve with Mac OS X 10.4, and there are known graphical and compatibility bugs already. It is entirely possible that in the near future, extant PPC-compatible plugins will not function properly or at all.

  • The best Latex Editor for MAC

What is the best Latex editor for Mac ? I'm looking for a suitable alternative to MacTex - either Commercial or freeware.

    andy8,
there are quite a few “integrated” solutions, combining editor and pdf preview (the very fine TeXShop being one of them) -- some of them are quite new (even beta); TeXShop, on the other hand, is very mature:
    TeXPad:
    http://vallettaventures.com/texpad
    Latexian:
    http://tacosw.com/latexian/
    TeXnicle:
    http://www.bobsoft-mac.de/texnicle/texnicle.html
    Scribo:
    http://www.scriboapp.com/
Texmaker (cross-platform, qt-based; all the others are OS X native):
    http://www.xm1math.net/texmaker/index.html
You can also check the entries, and the comments, on Macupdate:
    http://www.macupdate.com/find/mac/latex
That said, I use none of them, although I have TeXShop around. (This doesn’t mean the new integrated solutions aren’t any good; I haven’t tried them yet.)
That’s because what’s most important, imho, in a good LaTeX environment is the editor, i.e., how much help is there to get the source written. Accordingly, many people would agree that the best editor available plus a fine synchronised, but stand-alone pdf viewer is superior than a (compromising, or so the musing goes) all-in-one tool.
The, hands-down, best pdf viewer, supporting PDFSync (syncing source and pdf), is Skim; it’s free:
    http://skim-app.sourceforge.net/
As regards the best editor, there is constant disagreement among OS X users, some would even say “war” -- but that just shows how vivid the Mac ecosphere is when it comes to such tools.
Leaving the “classics” aside, Emacs (Aquamacs, http://aquamacs.org/) and Vim (Macvim, http://code.google.com/p/macvim/), dreaded for their learning curve, worshipped for their power, two of the best, modern, clean, yet powerful editors are TextMate and Sublime Text 2:
    http://macromates.com/
    helpful: http://www.astrobetter.com/how-and-why-to-use-textmate-for-latex/
    http://www.sublimetext.com/2
    helpful: http://tekonomist.wordpress.com/2011/03/25/the-in-progress-latex-plugin-for-subl ime-text-2-4/
Many would hold that the combination of either TextMate (2) or Sublime Text 2 together with Skim provides the best LaTeX environment ever.
    Take care.

what is the best office program for mac dealing with arabic language?

The best word processor is Mellel.  TextEdit, Nisus Writer, and Open/Libre/NeoOffice should also work OK.
MS Word for Mac does not do Arabic, but I am not sure about Excel and PowerPoint.  If not, OpenOffice would be the only option.
iWork has bugs that probably make it unsuitable for RTL for most people.

  • Best virus software for mac OS 10.5.8?

What is best software for mac OS

    VIRUSES
No viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions.
It is possible, however, to pass on a Windows virus to another Windows user, for example through an email attachment. To prevent this all you need is the free anti-virus utility ClamXav, which you can download for Tiger and Leopard (check with them about Lion) from:
    http://www.clamxav.com/
The new version for Snow Leopard is available here:
    http://www.clamxav.com/index.php?page=v2beta
Note: ClamAV adds a new user group to your Mac. That makes it a little more difficult to remove than some apps. You’ll find an uninstaller link in ClamXav’s FAQ page online.
If you are already using ClamXav: please ensure that you have installed all recent  Apple Security Updates  and that your version of ClamXav is the latest available.
Do not install Norton Anti-Virus on a Mac as it can seriously damage your operating system. Norton Anti-Virus is not compatible with Apple OS X.
FAKE ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE and associated MALWARE
Do not be tricked by 'scareware' that tempts computer users to download fake anti-virus software that may itself be malware.
Fake anti-virus software that infect PCs with malicious code are a growing threat, according to a study by Google. Its analysis of 240m web pages over 13 months showed that fake anti-virus programs accounted for 15% of all malicious software.
Scammers trick people into downloading programs by convincing them that their PC is infected with a virus.
Once installed, the software may steal data or force people to make a payment to register the fake product.
Beware of PDF files from unknown sources. A security firm announced that by its counting, malicious Reader documents made up 80% of all exploits at the end of 2009.:
    http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9157438/in which Rogue_PDFs_account_for_80_of_all_exploits_says_researcher
TROJANS and RE-DIRECTION TO FAKE WEBSITES
The appearance of Trojans and other malware that can possibly infect a Mac seems to be growing, but is a completely different issue to viruses.
If you allow a Trojan to be installed, the user's DNS records can be modified, redirecting incoming internet traffic through the attacker's servers, where it can be hijacked and injected with malicious websites and pornographic advertisements. The trojan also installs a watchdog process that ensures the victim's  (that's you!)  DNS records stay modified on a minute-by-minute basis.
You can read more about how, for example, the OSX/DNSChanger Trojan works (by falsely suggesting extra codecs are required for Quicktime) here:
    http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/trojan_osx_dnschanger.shtml
SecureMac has introduced a free Trojan Detection Tool for Mac OS X.  It's available here:
    http://macscan.securemac.com/
First update the MacScan malware definitions before scanning. You can also contact their support team for any additional support - [email protected] [/b]
The DNSChanger Removal Tool detects and removes spyware targeting Mac OS X and allows users to check to see if the trojan has been installed on their computer; if it has, the software helps to identify and remove the offending file. After a system reboot, the users' DNS records will be repaired.
(Note that a 30 day trial version of MacScan can be downloaded free of charge from:
    http://macscan.securemac.com/buy/
and this can perform a complete scan of your entire hard disk. After 30 days free trial the cost is $29.99. The full version permits you to scan selected files and folders only, as well as the entire hard disk. It will detect (and delete if you ask it to) all 'tracker cookies' that switch you to web sites you did not want to go to.)

  • Smart Phone for Mac user/ Medical Student

Trying to find a smartphone that will integrate well with my mac. I'll be using it for email, calls, texts, dates, drug refrences, and everything else a medical student can cram into a pda type device. I was looking at the BlackBerry Curve, Treo, and ATT's 8125 (or something like that). Any recomendations? Thanks

Unfortunately, Sprint don't appear to offer a single iSync compatible phone. This is probably because they are a CDMA network, and most iSync compatible phones use GSM, the network standard used almost everywhere else in the world.
Also, by wanting to avoid using The Missing Sync range of products you limit your choices to just Blackberry devices, which can by synced with Blackberry's Desktop Manager for Mac software:
    http://www.blackberry.com/mac/
I can't comment on how reliable this software is though.
Realistically, if you want a limited choice of iSync compatible phones you're going to have to switch to a GSM network provider, (if you want to choose between hundreds of iSync compatible phones you'll have to move to Europe).

  • Best financial software for mac

What is the best personal financial software for mac? I am currently using Quicken 2007 but keep losing data.
    Thanks,

This is a bash on Quicken reply. I have struggled with Quicken (currently Q07) for many, many years (back into the 90's). I counted 13 different sets of Quicken datasets which have been left hanging on my various hard drives over these years as I found out through different support calls that I would have to discard a corrupted database and start over.
Last year, I was told by Quicken support during a  call I paid for that I had too many accounts and the database was too large. (This has been a common tech support comment for me) I've only tried to use Quicken for personal finance tracking, no securities tracking and the heavier features (thank goodness). The call ended with an all too familiar bottom line which was that the backups were all bad so they didn't help. The support person couldn't figure out how I could utlize the backup data so in the end, I re-entered the previous year so that I could get my taxes done and search for another program. I've researched enough to know I was lucky to not move to Quicken Express as was once advised. Apparently that software doesn't allow an export in the event you would find a different software.
The good news is that I just upgraded to Mountain Lion. As you may know, Quicken in any version does not work with this OS. I've finally found a perfect reason staring me in the face to never struggle to use Quicken again. Now to find a better option. Money has many features that seem like what I need for handling 5 or 6 bank accounts and credit cards. Has anyone experienced SEE software? It too seems to have decent features.
I don't know the background of this link but it may be a place to start:
    http://personal-finance-software-review.toptenreviews.com/mac-personal-finance-s oftware/
MacWorld also has a review on financial software for the Mac 2013
Best of luck to us all. Deciding on MtnLion and Mac vs. Quicken pppfffft no question which gets dumped!
