Best Compatible Format In Lieu Of ProRes File?

Hi,
Someone asked me to send them a video file in the Quicktime ProRes format, but I use PP CS4, so I asked if they can work with an AVI file.  They replied to send the best quality AVI file I can for broadcast (this file is a commercial to be played in hotel rooms).  Would my best option be to send them an uncompressed AVI file?  The file was shot a few years ago on DVCam tape.
Thanks,
Jennifer

As the saying goes, Uncompressed is best.  (Be sure not to choose the V.210 option as that is only for use with compatible AJA hardware.)

  • Best compatible video format as background animation

    Hi,
I want to know that which is the best compatible video format
which I can use as a transparent background animation without
having to install any player to others computer.(few objects flying
over in the background of my application to show dynamics). This
animation will be used in several pages thats why I have to keep it
transparent rather than any specific solid color.

  • Which is best video format for storage of video media files?

Greetings, good folk and happy holidays!
My question involves the conversion of physical video media, DVDs, video files, etc, and storage for use with multiple devices.
Like many of you, I have video in many formats and in multiple places... DVDs, Blu-Ray, AVIs, MP4s, etc.  I want to convert them all to a usable format to use in conjunction with my Iphone, Apple TV, IPad, etc. and store in one place in an electronic "library." The problem is that there are countless formats they can be converted to, and not all formats look good on all devices. A video converted to Iphone format will be optimized for the smaller screen and may not look good on the iPad. And iPad converted video might not look good on larger TVs used with Apple TV.
Was wondering if you folks would have opinons as to the best codecs, format and specs to convert video to that would look good on any device from iPhone to an iPad to a TV with Apple TV.
I'm not expecting Blu-Ray quality sharpness with a universal format when used with Apple TV, but something reasonable without artifacts would look fine.
I'm using IM Too Video Converter Ultimate which has presets for many difference devices, but not sure which options will work best.
    Anyone else dealing with this?
    Thank you for your time.

  • Downloading then converting FLAC files to Mac compatible formats

    Hi all...
I've been downloading music from archive.org and I always go for the mp3 files for one simple reason: I just don't know how to deal with the FLAC files. I've read dozens of posts here and still don't get it... so I live with the compressed mp3's. When I do try to access the FLAC's they appear in my Safari browser window through the Quicktime plug in. But how do I get them to my hard drive.... and then convert to one of the Mac compatible formats. The latter part seems pretty straightforward with the proper converter. But I can't seem to get my hands on the FLAC's themselves.
So.... 2 questions: getting the FLAC's on board and .... a user friendly converter.
    Thanks!

What kind of file is it really?
It's a FLAC file. FLAC is its own format just like mp3 or AAC. I don't know the details of what is going on with iTunes. Fluke is making iTunes do something it wasn't designed to do so it isn't too surprising that iTunes may not be able to identify the files correctly. Likewise, when you tried to open a FLAC file in a browser window that browser application contains a list of applications to try to use to open files of various formats, but that doesn't mean it will always work. I could tell my browser to open Excel spreadsheet files in iTunes, but that doesn't mean iTunes will be able to do that. Since FLAC is an audio format the browser probably is set to toss all audio files at Quicktime in the hopes it can open them. I don't know if FLAC plugins exist for browsers. I use VLC to play individual FLAC files, or COG if I have a bunch (both free). You ccould set up your browser to fire up VLC if you download a FLAC file.

  • Best video format for converting DVD to NAS for widely sharing

Summary: The article shows you with an easy workaround for
copying DVD to NAS for streaming by ripping DVD to NAS friendly video
    format on Mac and Windows
I recently purchased a NAS to store all my music/photos etc on. I
can stream stuff to my iPhone/iPad using the NAS software. What I want
to do is rip all my DVDs (over 400) to my NAS, but I’m not sure which
format to do it in, to play nice with my Apple TV2, Xbox 360, iPhone,
iPad etc. I wanna get some advice as to what format to rip in and what
    software to use?
Learn some tips from online, I got know that to copy dozens of DVD movies to NAS,
you need to get the content off the DVD disc as a protection-free and
easily readable element for NAS. In this case, at the first place
powerful third-party software for backup DVD to NAS is what you need.
There are many, many DVD ripping tools on the market. I’ve tired a pile of them.
    Brorsoft DVD Ripper
is the best one I’ve tried yet. It is capable of ripping DVD to MP4,
AVI, MKV for NAS streaming with no quality loss; it also enables you to
copy DVD main movies for backup onto NAS in .vob format. And what I’ve
learned is that MP4 would be one best target format for it is fully
compatible with nearly all media devices including iPad, iPhone, PS3,
Apple TV, etc. If you are running on Mac OS X, turn to  DVD Ripper for Mac. If you haven’t got the software, download it now and let’s start the conversion.
Ripping and copying DVDs to NAS
    1. Launch the DVD ripping program for NAS devices . Then
click "Load DVD" to import the DVD files you want to convert. To select
the subtitles you like, simply click Subtitle and select the one you
prefer. P.S. Before start the conversion, you can choose to backup DVD mian movies.
    2. Click Format bar and choose your desired format. To store
hundreds of DVD's on NAS, you can rip DVD to .mp4, or .avi, .mkv, etc
compressed format. And click Settings bar, you can adjust the level of
compression to suit the quality you want.
Tip: If you like, you can click “Settings” to change the
video encoder, resolution, frame rate, etc. as you wish. Keep in mind
the file size and video quality is based more on bitrate than resolution
which means bitrate higher results in big file size, and lower visible
    quality loss, and vice versa.
    3. Press the "Convert" button to start ripping DVD for NAS streaming.
After the conversion, click Open button to find the output files.
Make sure the wireless network connection is accessible among the NAS
and Apple TV, PS3, HD TV or other media players. Then just enjoy the
high quality DVD movies anywhere anytime.

I've always found encoding with Handbrake and choosing the Apple TV2 preset is an excellent place to start and video encoded using that preset will work on my iPhone 4, 4S and iPad 2.
If the files encoded using that preset are too big for one's taste they can always encoded at a lower average bit rate rather than using the default 'Constant Quality' of 20.
Later on I'm sure the Handbrake group will have an AppleTV '3' preset supporting the 1080p format supported by the ATV3 and iPad '3' but using such a preset would not create a file usable on the iPad 2 or the iPhones.

  • Movieclips -  best compression formats and filesize in general for Keynote?

I have experienced the same problems as many others in this forum with playing QT movies in keynote. My mpeg-2 will not even import now in Leopard 10.5 and KN 4.0.1.
I would likt to know if someone has tried out what QT compatible formats looks best and runs best in general in keynote when exporting from FCP via compressor? I have quite a few movies in an upcoming presentation.
Mpeg-2 doesn't import at the moment in Leopard, it works fine in Tiger 10.4.10 though.
It seems to me that anything with the extention .mov will a least run in Leopard.
The point where the file size becomes problem?
Has anyone tried if creating multiple KN documents and then link from one to the next works better than stacking movieclips in the same document?
Any information on avoiding stuttering clips and sounds also for that matter would be highly appreciated.
    Henrik

I'm also experiencing stuttered playback of movies in Keynote when they play fine in the Quicktime player. Does anyone have suggestions for ideal compressor, data rate, file size?

  • AVCHD - Best conversion format for FCP 7?

Guys, what would be the best format to convert an AVCHD file to to use on FCP 7?
I need to edit approx 15 hours of footage, which shot on AVCHD.
Also, would it be better to convert an MTS file instead? If so, what format would be best to convert to?
    Thanks

h264 is NOT an editing format. Really, don't go that way.
    ProRes is what you need.
[Neoscene|http://www.cineform.com/neoscene/features.php] can do that, but I have no experience with that, so I'd check with others if this really works. And it's 160$
Also if your client copies all Cards to one drive. (Make a new folder, call it card 01, drop EVERYTHING from the camera card into that folder. Just as it is on the card. Make another new folder, call it card 02, etc). Then when he gives you the disk, you can open them all in Log and Transfer. Name the clips and reels as desired. Start converting. Leave the computer running and go out, do your groceries shooping, go to the movies, have a good night sleep, take a run in the park and return to the office. And everything is there in ProRes!
Well, you don't have to charge your client to many for that? right?

  • Best Exhibition Format & Exporting

I have an hour long project that mixes footage of HDV 1080i 60 and H.264 720p 30 (from T1i). I am going to be showing the project to a group using a 1080p projector and a 30 foot screen.
Now I have rendered both file formats as ProRes in FC but they still vary in size and other settings. I wanted to know what my best option would be for combining these file types and exporting them?
Also, I am on the fence about the best options for exhibiting the project. Would it be BluRay? Use a computer? A media player? Thanks

  • Best Output Format for Slide Show?

If I were to purchase Final Cut Studio...
What would be the best output format to use for a simple slideshow intended for Web deployment? In other words, which encoding method will provide the best compromise between file size and video quality? The slideshow is a series of simple static images with some fade transitions and Ken Burns effects. There is also a soundtrack for background music.
A 1.5 minute slideshow with soundtrack created using Adobe Flash is less than 2 MB in size (which is great for Web deployment), and it looks very good. If that same slideshow is exported from Flash to a QuickTime-compatible format, it balloons to over 20 MB!
So what I'd really like to know is, if something like Final Cut Pro were used to create that same slideshow, would I be able to produce a web-ready video that rivals the Flash version in size?
Thanks for any help and insight you can provide,
    -Steve

    Studio X wrote:
Quicktime is a file wrapper that can contain anyone of a number of codecs.
    Yes, I understand that.
H.264 is the prefered version for web/apple TV delivery.
A 90s slideshow that was less than 2 MB as a SWF file became a 27 MB behemoth when exported using the H.264 codec. The exported file had the same frame rate and resolution (pixel dimensions) as the original Flash file. The audio was optimized as well. Why the dramatic difference? (I think I know why, but perhaps I'm missing something.)
That being said, Final Cut Pro is a video editing program and is a waste of money if all you are doing is simple slideshows.
Slideshows are not all I will be doing, but I will be doing them occasionally, and it's hard to justify purchasing Flash just to create slideshows that are optimized for the Web.
Have you tried iMovie then converting the output to either Flash or (if you have Quicktime Pro) converting to h.264 QT?
My tests indicate that anything but Flash format results in a monstrous file for a simple slideshow. I have a notion as to why this is, but I wanted to check to make sure that I'm not overlooking some way of creating smaller non-Flash files.
The bottom line is that Final Cut Studio will be far more useful and versatile for what I need to do, and I would be much more proficient with that software; but if I can't output video files that rival those of Flash in terms of quality and file size, then I might have to get a copy of Flash after all.
And yes, you can convert a QuickTime movie to flash, but it's just not the same in terms of file size as generating the same slideshow directly in Flash. I suspect this is because Flash is optimized for animation, whereas the QuickTime codecs are designed for video, and a simple slideshow is more of an animation than a video.
So my real question is (and I suspect the answer is no), is it possible using Final Cut Studio to generate a simple slideshow which rivals the output from Flash in terms of file size for a given resolution?

  • Best video format to export from final cut pro to encore

hi, i'm using final cut pro and no matter what format i export my video in, be it quicktime, mpeg2 or avi, there's still a slight degradation of picture quality when i import it into encore. mpeg2 by far suffers the least. but is there a best video format i can export from final cut to adobe so dat there's minimal loss in quality?

Sure, export it as an uncompressed AVI or QT file.

  • ProRes files act crazy and transcoding to Animation codec gets ugly

So, allegedly, the Animation codec is lossless. However, when I take something encoded with Apple ProRes 422 HQ and transcode to Animation within the Quicktime Pro software, I see noticeable differences. Including: color change and increased aliasing.
The same is true when attempting to export stills from ProRes, even in the highest, most lossless formats. I am wondering if ProRes for PC is actually not quite ready for prime time? When I import a ProRes file into After Effects, I notice the same quality drop associated with trying to transcode it to a lossless format. It seems as though ONLY QT Pro has the capability to display ProRes files properly. If this is the case, this is largely useless, since I can't then USE these ProRes files for anything. What the heck guys? I wouldn't have had clients deliver me ProRes encoded stuff if I knew that it didn't actually maintain its integrity.
Please help out as soon as possible. Clients with deadlines are waiting on a solution that doesn't involve me spending 4000 grand on a new machine and FCP.

As a test, try nesting the problem sequence in a new empty sequence then export that new sequence using QuickTime. Let us know whether or not that succeeds.
    Cheers

  • Edit copy in a CS6 file, but lock formatting of parts of the file

I have a client that needs to be able to edit some copy in a file that I've created in adobe Illustrator CS6, but I want to be able to lock the formatting of parts of the file. I don't want them to use CS6.Suggestions?

Can't do. At best you could offer them a hacky solution liek creating a PDF form with an editable text field, but it may end up looking awful.

    Hi Mozill,
The best solution for you will be to use the Write to Text File VI in combination with the Concatenate String VI (both located in the Strings pallette). You can use the Tab constant between different strings on the same row At the end of each line simply add the "End of Line" constant and during the next iteration of your loop you will start at a new line. Open up example finder in LabVIEW by to Help»Find Examples
Then search for "text" and look at the Write to Text File VI.
    Hope this helps!

  • Is the prores file that FCPx creates when importing c300 .mxf files stable/quality enough to then copy to other drives for further use? Are there any quality disadvantages to doing that?

Im wondering if I can directly copy the prores files fcpx creates when importing c300 .mxf files from the "original media" folder, reimport them for another project to and use them that way. Is there any problem with working that way? I'm doing this bc I want to have an organize finder structure for a client but cant break the c300 card structure to split clips on a card into different "scenes" to make it easier for them to understand what they're looking at. This is all to stay NLE nuetral--we like fcpx but they might want to edit somewhere else and more details in the finder level seems like the best solution? Suggestions on any of that? Thanks.

Thanks for your response. Are you sure that FCPx is working with .mxf/c300 natively? I thought it was just a background sort of repackaging or transcode into prores that it does without you having a choice? And bc of that, for me, it's sort of a "back end" feeling file: I'm curious if it's bad to get into the package contents folder to copy it over? Not about copying prores in general-- specifically, is the prores created of c300 footage in fcpx more of a fcpx, high quality alias file? Maybe I'm just feeling a little uncomfortable grabbing things from the inside/finder level of fcpx.

  • Creating a .swf in InDesign, is there anyway to export it into a more compatible format?

I am not sure if the above question is actually what I am asking.  I created a training module using a ton of these .swf files in InDesign.  The .swf files don't line up with the timeline so they can't be paused, fast forwarded or controlled in anyway.  The course was created in Articulate Storyline, their solution is to import it as a video and not flash. When I do that it becomes a static image.  I have the cloud,  I attempted to pull it into After Effects and then export it, but it again, I cannot import it.. (I am still in the beginning stages of learning that program.)  I've installed Flash Pro and attempted the same.
Is there anyway I can make these files into a compatible format, say mpg-4?
    Thanks!
    Monica

I wrote that wrong. I create all of my images, backgrounds, designs, and animations in InDesign. From InDesign, I export the images as jpgs and the animations as .swfs.  From there, I import the .swfs into storyline as a flash object, and it plays normally; however, in the player within storyline, while viewing the course, when the slide is paused the .swf keeps going.. If it's fast forwarded, the .swf starts from the beginning.  My goal is to have it work with the player controls, pause with the slide, and continue where it left off - all of that.
The only way to do so, which I found in the storyline forum, is to import it as a video.
So the animations I created in Indesign, exported to a .swfs, I attempted to pull into After Effects and then export them; however, it doesn't actually play or seem to exist in after effects - or in Flash Pro, even Premiere.
    Sorry if this confusing.
    Thanks a lot!!
