Best Composite Out Solution?

I have a Mac Pro with FCP. I would like to have a card that does composite out (while not replacing the current card i have, 512mb ATI RAEDEON). What is the cheapest solution for this? Basically I just want to plug into my SD TV to look at the image on a bigger monitor while I edit.

#8 External Monitor Viewing.
Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section
If you don't want to use your camera or deck, then you need a device like the ADVC-110 or Matrox MXO...or a CAPTURE CARD if you have $2000 laying about.

  • How to get plain old S-video and Composite out from a MBP?

    Hi,
this question is about someone's MacBook Pro he newly bought with adapters to get both DVI and Svideo/Composite Out.
He got Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D converter, and a DVI-I to video converter, that cannot be plugged into a DVI-D port. Apple removed the analog capability of its adapter, that's bad. But what's badder is there doesn't seem to have any Mini DisplayPort to Svideo/Composite adapter, as there was with previous generation machines.
How can someone easily output analog video from MBP?

In fact, I recognize that these standards are old, which doesn't mean they're not up-to-date. Similar example, VGA connector is old, but perfectly useful, even in 2009. I recently plugged a 22" LCD with VGA and DVI on the same computer (a bland desktop PC), and there was strictly no difference. Same color depth, same crisp display. Even looking at a corner with a magnifier, nothing was different.
So, changing standards just for the sake of it doesn't make any sense.
Agreed that, as a pro, Apple would like me to buy their pro line, but nowhere in the pro line does an easy solution exists for S-Video and composite out. The solution you posted exists, but is unwieldly and not neat at all, if it doesn't break the Mac's connector under its weight. If a manufacturer can do this kind of adapter, Apple can do it better, and make a bigger profit out of it.
For the adapter you posted, I don't ever buy anything that is not at least Mac+Windows compatible, or at a minimum is open-source, so anyone with programming skills can make something. The manufacturer also doesn't give a clue on how this works. I guess some sort of virtual driver sits in the system as a virtual IEEE1394 port so any program requiring FW can work transparently. Still, incompatible with the OS that most manufacturer ship their new PCs with, poor commercial decision, wether you like the OS or not.
Adding FW in the MB unibody design wouldn't have cost anout $30. Rather, we're talking about a 25 cents chip, a 25 cents connector, which they would have rounded up to $20 and still, that was present in previous-gen MB. After all, they are indeed selling a matte screen on the MBP 17" for $50 more, despite them removing a single piece of glass which may cost, well, let's be fair, $5 to manufacture? That's dishonest. And capitalistically justified.
So far, choosing a Mac for one's needs is no easy task: older white MacBooks have the same power as unibodies, excellent connectivity, top notch transfer speeds, BUT are heavier, as not as ecologically friendly nor do they have future-proof RAM standard. The unibodies are sleekier, easily recycled and will be able to be upgraded in the near future BUT is most likely unable to use current devices and have slower transfer speeds.
For Pro models, the newer ones have great efficiency, much power and flexibility with their dual GPU BUT lost the option of matte screen, although their other pro-oriented monitors still default to matte. Only the 17" has the option. If a pro already finds his 15,4" bulky and with ample reserve power, will he buy the bigger and heavier 17"? Probably not.
I understand that Apple way of doing business is keeping only what's essential with no unnecessary options (I'm looking at you, Asus, with you at least 10 different versions of you netbook). But this time, not everyone can find what he or she wants in Apple's line of laptops, as opposed to the iPod thing, where virtually any possible preference is covered.

I don't get a picture ever, not even a flicker no matter what drivers I use or if I am in or out of windows, nothing from my composite I tried forced tv out and everything. Is this right, or Do you think my card is damaged? Thanks for any help. I have none to compare it to...

    Dear Popster41,
I found myself in the same situation you were when you posted this. Could you tell me where you found the converter you mentioned?

  • HT4108 What is required to use the video composite out on the iPhone 4.  Left and right audio works ok

What is required to use the video composite out on the iPhone 4   The left and right audio works ok

Please not that the iPhone uses mono channel for internal speakers, the other path that you see is not the speaker per say. It is the phone microphone. Try using headphones, you will hear both channels. If the problem still persists when using headphones, check your sound balancing in the settings. Go to setting-general-accessibility scroll down and check the slide under mono audio. It should be put at the centre for you to hear both channels ON YOUR HEADPHONES

  • Best Mouse out for a Mac?

Hey, whats a good mouse to get for a mac? I don't really like the mighty mouse b/c of its shape. Whats a good mouse for a Mac? I realized that the Mac accuracy and movement acceleration isn't as smooth as a PC, so whats the best mouse out their that works best for a Mac?
    Im thinking about getting this:
Razer - Lachesis Laser Gaming Mouse - Phantom White - RZ01-00170200
The higher the dpi, the better right? Its 4000dpi

    Hi,
I like the Microsoft series wireless of notebook mice. There are several different styles, so you should be able to find one that feels comfortable. Microsoft mice achieve very good battery life. The bluetooth model is very expensive, so I opted for one the less expensive models that uses a USB key for the receiver. When not in use, the key snaps to the bottom of the mouse, which also switches off the mouse electronics to conserve the battery.
I also have a Gyration mouse/keyboard. The Gyration mouse is really cool; it can be used on a table of you can wave it in the air. Waved in air, the Gyration mouse uses accelerometers. It is really handy for use with a video projector.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • What is the best & cheap backup solution for a macpro laptop?

What is the best & cheap backup solution for a macpro laptop? easy & simple to use

    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components: 1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences; and, 2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    Synk Pro
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
    Cool Drives
    OWC
    WiebeTech
    Firewire Direct
    California Drives
    NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.

  • Is the Cisco AirSpace solution the best one out there?

I have been evaluating WLAN solutions and have narrowed the choice down to two; AireSpace (Cisco) and Aruba. The one thing I really like about Aruba's system is that access points can be configured as IDS sensors only, which would eliminate some of the performance problems associated with AP's that also act as sensors. Can the Cisco Airespace solution enable AP's as sensor only? I am concerned that a busy access point will not be able to detect rogue devices.

An Airespace AP can be configured to do rogue detection and sniffing/monitoring functionality only.

  • Best PRO masking solution?

Looking pro level masking plugin for Photoshop.
I was a beta tester for PShop 1.0. After many years as a retoucher, I still find the best masking workflow to be primarily derived from vector paths made to appropriately feathered layer masks, with contrast masks or hand painted masks for hair, fabric or other "fuzzy" edges.
Every third party masking solution I have tried required more cleanup time than I would typically invest in my more reliable methods. But perhaps things have improved since I Iast checked? I web searched for relaible reviews for third party masking plugins, but found mostly promotional boilerplate from vendors.
Any pro retouchers/photographers out there who can recommend a professionall level third party masking plugin?
    Thanks!

I've done a fair number of "hairy" (high detail) photos on busy backgrounds, and the Refine Edge function still works, though sometimes with additional challenges (e.g., things that need to be hand-masked or hidden after).
Realistically, in order to do better than the software currently does, you almost have to imagine software that actually perceives the subject material - i.e., "knows" what the subject is, what hair is, etc.
FauxtoGuy, post an example (or part of one) that shows what you're dealing with, and I'm sure we can provide more detailed help.
Operating Refine Edge adeptly, and getting a feel for what to worry about and what to leave for hand-masking and tone blending after take some practice and finesse, but it's good stuff and it can really work.

  • Please Help - Need SD or composite out of F55

Hi, I'm using a Sony F55 with Avalon OTX627 wireless transmiter and a Avalon OWM602 wireless receiver.  Can someone help me with setting one of the Sony outputs to SD composite singal? Thank you for any help or suggestions!

Hi, Scott, You will find your answers on page 111 of the Version 6.0 manual. SDI Main has to be set at 2K or HD format at 59.94/50 or 29.97/25, SDI Sub has to be at SD 720x486 or 576.  The TEST Out will then be Composite.  Not available for 24 or 23.98. Good luck and best regards,

  • Best Practice - Outer Join between Fact and Dim table

    Hi Gurus,
Need some advice on the below scenario
I have an OOTB subject area and we have around 50-60 reports based on it. The related subject area Fact and Dim1 table are having inner join.
Now I have a scenario for one report where outer join has to be implemented between Fact and Dim1. Here I am against changing the OOTB subject area join as the outer join will impact the performance of other 50-60 reports.
Can anyone provide any inputs on what is the best way to handle this scenario?
    Thanks

    Ok. I tried this:
Driving table : Fact, Left outer join -- didnt work.
Driving table: Dimension D left outer join -- didnt work either
In either the case, I see physical query as D left outer Join on Fact F. and omitting the rows.
And then I tried this -
Driving table: Fact, RIght outer join.
Now, this is giving me error:
Sybase][ODBC Driver]Internal Error. [nQSError: 16001] ODBC error state: 00000 code: 30128 message: [Sybase][ODBC Driver]Data overflow. Increase specified column size or buffer size. [nQSError: 16011] ODBC error occurred while executing SQLExtendedFetch to retrieve the results of a SQL statement. (HY000)
I checked all columns, everything matched with database table type and size.
I am pulling Fact.account number, Dimension.account name, Fact.Measures. I am seeing this error each time I pull Fact.Account number.

  • 'You've Been Signed Out' - Solutions not working

    Hi,
I've been having this problem for many days now and have been very patient with the customer care team. However, I'm not approaching deadlines at University and really, really need access to Creative Cloud. I haven't even got any programs downloaded yet, so I'm absolutely stuffed at the moment and don't seem to be getting any help at all.
I was on the chat service three days ago and they couldn't solve my problem, so I was promised a phone call at 6pm the next day; I got nothing. This is simply unacceptable, I've tried absolutely everything to try and fix this problem and get some actual help but nothing has happened. Either make an update for Creative Cloud or find me a solution. It's absolutely disgusting that Adobe allows its customers to suffer like this, especially when you take into account the millions of people that use their products.
I sincerely hope I get some help on this forum.
    Jack Williams

Just got a fix that worked....  Here is the chat!

    Imran: Navigate to Local/Adobe/OOBE folder.
    Imran: Delete opm.db file.
Imran: Please tell me if you face any issue so that I can help you.
    Robert: ok
Robert: Do I need to close creative could in window task manager?
Imran: Yes, please close the process in Task Manger.
Imran: Once the file is deleted, please try to login to Creative Cloud Application once again.

  • Is there a COMPONENT video OUT solution for the iBook?

I am currently using Apple's Video Adapter (mini-VGA to S-Video) to hook up to my widescreen. Let's face it, S-Video *****. I am trying to find a solution that would allow me to get component video out of my iBook and run that into my widescreen.
Is there a VGA->Component Video Adapter available that would work with the mini-VGA -> VGA adapter that ships with the iBook? (Or some other way to get a component video signal?)
    Thanks!
    iBook G4 1.2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   1.25 GB RAM

    Hi Mactivist,
i am not an expert on this video stuff but I think
you might find this useful. Although the
procedure described is about a Mac Mini (which has a
dvi connector) the guy actually used a DVI-VGA
adapter. Therefore, I believe, the set-up described
    should work for you too.
    -Petra
Unfortunately, iBooks do not have DVI out. What I really need is a VGA to Component video adapter.
And for the person who wasn't sure what a component video cable looks like, this is a cable that has 3 rca-like plugs on it, each one supplies a different color (RGB I think).
So far, I've not found a VGA adapter that can do this unless you are using an ATI video card as the source.
