Best compression for web site

I would like to add a 2-3 minute segment of a longer movie to my web site.  I use wordpress which only allows for a 2MB media clip to be uploaded.  What compression in Compressor (or elsewhere) would give me such a small file?  Or is there another route I can take...posting to you tube or vimeo or such?
Thanks in advance.

You'd be much better off hosting somewhere else and embedding a player into your wordpress page.  Or find another web hosting solution.

  • Compressing for web site

Hi, I've got a sequence that is true 16:9 and I'm trying to compress it as a Quicktime file for a web site. When I play it back it is in 4:3. What can I do to change the settings and what would be a good dimention for a web page?

Change it in the size box of the Quicktime Export window.
    W=(H/9)*16
    Good luck,

  • Best compression for web?

If client's need a video (usually under 5min) for a website, what is the best compression setting for that coming out of FCP (usually 960x720)? I usually do h.264 680x480...

I just found that my video on my client's video is good quality, but studders & hardly plays. I was wondering if it was something that I could do differently on my end... but yes, I think I'm giving it to them correctly. I'll look into it further from their end. Thanks.

Stuttering and difficultly playing are bandwidth issues. Your bitrate is too high for their limited playback capabilities. when your reduce the bitrate, you will reduce the image quality. This is why we tell newbies at this to ask what the playback limitations are for their client's servers.

  • What's best compression for Web sharing

I've been making several clips using H264 compression but due to "unpopular" format only few people can see it (basically only up to date Mac users). Since I want to share my clips with friends over the net I was wondering what is the best large diffusion format with a decent quality or what settings need to be used. With H264 is possible to make a 2 min. clip with exceptional quality with only 5GB.....any idea which other format can do the same?
    Thx

  • Best compression for video on web

i have a website (made with iWeb and published on .mac) and I have a few pages of video clips. They vary in length from 30 seconds to about 6 minutes or so.
What is the best compression to use? I've been using H.264 and the sizes of the files go from about 7Mb up to 12Mb - it just takes such a long time to load online.
How can I create video that looks good but loads quickly? For example, how do movie sites create their trailers for online use? They look great and you can see that the progress bar on the video loads up really quickly, meaning that the video start playing almost as soon as it loads.
With my site, it takes a good minute or two before it starts to play. Any ideas?

*how do movie sites create their trailers*
No offence meant, not on iMacs. They have more expensive hardware for this.
The subject of video compression for web has been discussed on this and adjacent fora many times and I suggest you use the search function. Also, googling would be a good idea, especially words like Brian Gary who is the Compressor guru.
The topic is too complex for a quick post. I apologize for not having the time to type more.

Why does it need to be the best one? What would that even mean? Just buy something reputable, like an O'Reilly book, it's not going to be so horrifically poor that you can't learn from it

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 21.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will lose all personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • Best format for web movies?

My server here suggests Flash, but the samples we've done are not what I am hoping for. His next suggestion is Windows Media Player. What do you think? These would be 1 to 2 minute videos showing the features of camps, lodges, wildlife - at African destinations. I shoot them, edit them, and perhaps host them. The camp web site has the link to them. How do I get the best quality video on the web? BTW, I have just retired from operating safaris for 18 years and used video as part of my marketing. I'll be replacing my Canon G2 with a new Sony HD camera - not to put these little movies in HD, but to have that as the video I keep for possible other uses by the camps.

MPEG-1 files (how old is 1991) must completely download before viewer playback can begin. They are huge in file size compared to modern QuickTime formats.
H.264 would require all of your viewers to have QuickTIme 7. Not really much of an issue as it is now 2 years old and ships with iTunes (Mac or PC's).
Flash video will require special software to convert your files.
Same with WMP formats and any re-compression degrades video quality.
You can reach a bit larger audience (QT 6 and 7) by using the MPEG-4 Video codec.
I would export to QuickTime Movie and do a few tests of the MPEG-4 Video and AAC audio compression settings.
Web viewers need a speedy download and are used to poor quality audio and video. If you don't need "stereo", switch to mono and save half of the bandwidth resources. Same with the frame rate of your source files. Cut it to "half" (15fps) and save some file size.
Lots of tricks and only you can test your files prior to upload.

  • What is the BEST BEST format for web?

    Hi everyone,
I've been reading a lot lately and I found that PNG should be the best format. However, in our website (www.popticular.com), when I save them as web and pick PNG with best quality the logo seems pixalted. Is there another setting?
Feel free to log in to the site and check the lop left logo.
    Thanks.

In answer to the original question - the absolutely very best format depends on content being saved.  Different image formats use different compression algorithms, so PNG are ideal for images with transparency or solid colors block (like text) without any gradients. JPEG are great for photographic images because JPEG compression references start / end pixels in a gradual color shift (like skin tone or clouds) and discards all pixel data in between.  Use preview mode in "save for web" to identify formats that work best for each particular image in terms of resulting size and quality. You do not need to save at 100% quality, human eye cannot tell the difference between 60% quality JPEG and 70% quality JPEG.
As you get close to finalizing your design, you might want to run it through Web Preflight that will give you some guidance on any potential issues you might get when converting file into HTML - https://www.oss-usa.com/web-preflight?promo=adobe

  • Best compression for video with a lot of static text and graphics

Hello! I am producing an instructional DVD and am getting ready to output the files and was wondering what the best compression format would be for me to use.
About 1/3 of the clips consist of video shot in SD with very little movement (guy sitting at a desk talking to the camera.) The rest contains graphics created in After Effects and then imported back into Final Cut. The graphics are primarily text based, and don't change too often. There are some still images as well, but they are static for the most part save for some occasional panning. Oh, and the total length of all the video clips is about 70 minutes.
I would like to compress these videos so as to get the best possible quality in the text. I did a few tests, but the quality in the letters seemed a little worse than I had hoped. Is this just going to be an inevitability I have to live with, or is there a particular setting that would help me out?
Thanks for reading this; any help would be greatly appreciated!
PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.7) 1.25 GB DDR SDRAM

You know--I really have no idea why I didn't do it that way. I exported uncompressed files from After Effects and then imported them into FCP; some of the files are huuuge, like 60 GB+
I think in the next version of this I will probably just edit in FCP then import it into AE, and then export from there. As it stands though, I've sort of made some changes and done stuff in FCP after importing the clips, so I'd like to just export using Compressor.
So are you saying it's better to export uncompressed from FCP and then import that into Compressor and go from there? I've been just selecting the 'Export Using Compressor' option in FCP and going from there...
    Thanks!

  • Incorrect PDF scaling for web site jpeg files

So, I'm not sure if anyone else find this frustrating. When working on a new web design either in Illustrator or Photoshop, etc. and then exporting those to a jpg file, then taking those and combining them into a PDF file using acrobat, I'm seeing the PDF files being about 25% larger than their actual 72dpi web-standard size. So when I pass along the PDF to clients for review, I always have to add a disclaimer that they should set their PDF reader to about 75% to see the actual size of the web site files. 100% is far too big. Any idea why the correctly-sized image files, when imported into Acrobat are increased in size?
I've tried saving them as smaller files... I've tried the cropping feature... none of this seems to solve the problem. It's quite frustrating.
    Best,
    Russel

    Hi,
In Muse, there is no button/widget which allows to upload contents to your site. I would suggest to use third party web form builder, like Jotform, Upload Field Allowed File Types and Embed the form code in Muse and that should work.

  • Best setting for web?

I am trying to load a picture up to the web and the ones I have loaded have poor resolution. can someone please give me suggestions on what setting I should use from I-PHOTO for the best resolution.
    Thanks
    JIm

iPhoto will scale a full sized (2.5MB) image file down to 640 x 480 at 180 dpi (the same as the original file) at 225KB with the File export option. If you want a smaller image file, like under 100 KB you'll need to use a 3rd party application like ReSize! X (freeware) that resizes and reduces the resolution of the image file to 72 dpi. With it you have a choice of quality and, thus, a choice of final file size.
Another way you could do it is with the BetterHTMLExport plug-in for iPhoto or Galerie, a freeware application that works with iPhoto. Both will generate web galleries that you can take the resized media or large image files from to upload to the web site. Each allows you to pick the image size and quality, thus giving you complete control over the image and file size.

  • Best compression for iWeb movies

I am building a web site with many short movies I edited in iMovie and Final Cut Express. The movies are about 30-90 seconds each. I would like to use the most trouble free compression method available. By trouble free, I mean for the web site visitor. I do not want visitors to have problems with downloading my movies. I want Windows and Mac users to be able to have an equally easy time. I think I have narrowed it down to using either the H264 CODEC and ask visitors to download QuickTime 7 before downloading my movies or I am also considering Sorenson or MPEG-4. I would like to get a few different opinions on this from people who have working web sites with short movies. Please include a link to your web site so I can check out the performance of your site.
    Thanks,
    Frank

    My pages as an example.
Sometimes it's better to use some "tricks" to give your pages and movies a bigger "wow" factor.
I would suggest MPEG-4 settings instead of H.264. As much as it is a great codec and makes nice looking files it forces the viewing machine to have QuickTime 7 installed. Older OS's (lower than 10.3.9 or Windows 98) can't even install it.
Small file sizes help reduce bandwidth use and speed up the downloads.
Playing files using the QuickTime Player or at dimensions like double size helps give a wow your visitors remember.

  • Skateboard movie compression for web, HELP. please

    hi,
    can anyone help me here?
    ok,here is the situation.
i want to get the best compression using h.264 (file size, quality etc) for a 6 min fast moving skateboard film with graphics and slow motion sequences.
i have compressor and quicktime pro too.
please give me some advice on whats best.
i would like the quality to be near the origianl final cut file.
would be great if someone could describe exact settings.
    thanks

I would stick with David's suggestion. You're going to have to compromise size and quality. Any time you're dealing with web media you need to be sensitive to file size and download times. In order to accommodate an acceptable file size that caters to your market you'll have to compress the video which in turn will degrade quality. If your not happy with 800 kbps h.264 try again with a slightly higher or lower bit rate.
