Best configuration - MSI GeForce 8800GTS DDR3 Overclocked 512MB Dual DVI

Hi there,
I purchased this 2 weeks ago and been trying to find out what is the best settings and drivers to use for this card as I still could not utilise this cards full potential.
http://www.dabs4work.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=4V4H&SearchType=1&SearchTerms=msi+8800&PageMode=3&SearchKey=All&SearchMode=All&NavigationKey=0
I am currently using the latest nvidia drivers downloaded from the MSI website and latest DualCore Centre.
The games I play is Counter-Strike Source and I can't seem to yield this cards full potential and one reason could be because I am using PCI-E 1.0?
I upgraded to this card from a nvidia 7900GS which gave me 40-80FPS on Counterstrike Source.
The nvidia 8800GTS OC 512 now gives me only 60-110FPS which I believe is not a massive improvement for the price paid for an upgrade (both the 7900GS and 8800GTS I've setted on CS:S to have low video settings and resolution of 1280x1020)
What settings do people use on both CS:S and Nvidia setting to maximise this cards full potential? Should I set on use game settings or set the nvidia option slider to performance or customise certain settings?
What drivers and OC program is best to use? Should I continue to use DualCore Centre which allows the D.O.T and/or use official UMA drivers directly from Nvidia website? Please suggest/advise best combinations or settings or programs!
I read from somewhere that I need to use a minimum resolution for 8800 cards, if so does anyone know what it is? my monitor resolution only allows maximum of 1280x1020.
Any help would be appreciated!
Hoi

Why would it be better to get 150GB Raptor X?
Wouldn't Raid 5 be better for both speed and data recovery?

Only get 4GBs if you plan on using a 64-bit operating system. As 32-bit operating systems cannot address more than 4GBs.
Memory isn't too expensive these days, so having max of 4GB is better?

    It's score bad.

All drivers are up to date and i have tried to reinstall all components
Can Somebody help me Please? ;(

sorry but the only way you will improve your score is to lose the MSI FX6500. This is a renault 5 in ferrari clothing. It simply does not have the necessary fill rate to compete with even a Ti4200, trust me I spent 2 weeks trying to get it running to spec.
Basically only an Ultra or FX5900 will improve it.
Nvidia boobed on the design of the Graphics processor, the card can throw out frames well beyong a ti4200 capability but because it cant fill them quick enough it cant maintain the framerate.....still dont believe me ? Try thi, run 3d MARK, any version, in 640X480, youll notice that the score doesnt improve dramtically. 640X480 should mean more FPS but still no fill rate so it cant process any quicker.
I am well pi**ed of with my FX5600.

Hi. I bought the MSI Nvidia GeForce 7800GT a few months ago with the intention of buying a second to run in SLI. Now i can't seem to find anywhere that sells it at a decent price. Originally i bought it from www.ebuyer.co.uk but they have discontinued it.
Could i buy a MSI Geforce 7800 GTX and run it in SLI? They should have the same gpu and the specs aren't that different.

    Filip,
Set your Desktop to 16bit color. There is nothing on your desktop in 32 bit color. All it does is slow your comp down. Remember that when you play a game your comp is still rendering your desktop in the background, and 32bit color uses more CPU cycles then 16bit color.
    Richard
P.S. The color setting of your desktop has nothing to do with the color settings of your game.

    nice
    about remaining things:
you have change VGA Clock freq. via MSI DOT or via Nvidia panel(e.g. coolbits)? there should be a checkmark "apply this settings at start up"
what drivers version you currently use?
use Driver Cleaner to remove currently drivers,
    reboot.
then download and install latest one from Nvidia: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

  • MSI P35 Neo2-FR and GeForce 8800GT?

    Hello,
I am interested in buying MSI P35 Neo2-FR motherboard, and also the latest GeForce 8800GT. But after doing some research I notice that many people have having problems installing their 8800GT card into motherboards with a PCI-E 1.0a slots, and the Neo2-FR has 1.0a slots! However there seem to be exceptions, some motherboards with 1.0a slots work with 8800GT!
    This is all very confusing
Can anyone verify that MSI P35 Neo2-FR motherboard and GeForce 8800GT (With PCI-E 2.0!) works in the 1.0a slot??
    Thank you.

According to many sources, both personal and documentary, PCI-e 2.0 cards will work in PCI-e 1.X slots(Wikipedia is not exactly what I would consider a super source). Here's a more official source, PCI-SIG.
    http://www.pcisig.com/news_room/faqs/pcie2.0_faq/
    Quote from: PCI-SIG
Q4: It sounds as if both speed grades are supported in the PCIe 2.0 specification?
A4: The PCIe Base 2.0 specification supports both 2.5GT/s and 5GT/s signaling rates, in order to retain backward compatibility with existing PCIe 1.0 and 1.1 systems. Aside from the faster bit rate, there are a number of improvements in this new specification that allow greater flexibility and reliability in designing PCIe links. For example, the interconnect can be dynamically managed for platform power and performance considerations through software controls. Another significant RAS feature is the inclusion of new controls to allow a PCIe link to continue to function even when some lanes become non-operational.
Q5: Then PCIe 2.0 must be backward compatible with PCIe 1.1 and 1.0?
A5: Yes. The PCIe Base 2.0 specification supports both the 2.5GT/s and 5GT/s signaling technologies. A device designed to the PCIe Base 2.0 specification may support 2.5GT/s, 5GT/s or both. However, a device designed to operate specifically at 5GT/s must also support 2.5GT/s signaling. The PCIe Base specification covers chip-to-chip topologies on the system board. For I/O extensibility across PCIe connectors, the Card Electromechanical (CEM) and ExpressModule™ specifications will also need to be updated, but this work will not impact mechanical compatibility of the slots, cards or modules. Currently, the PCI-SIG is defining the PCIe CEM 2.0 specification which has been released to members for review at v0.5. There are currently no plans to adapt the PCIe Mini CEM specification for the faster bit rate as the market need has not yet materialized.

  • MSI GeForce FX 5200 bios config???

I just bought a msi geforcefx 5200 (TDR-128), and I'd like to know what is the best configuration I can put on my bios (MSI K7N2 DL)?
    AGP clock? 66-120
    AGP Voltage? 1.5-1.7
    AGP fastwrite? Enable/disable
    Video cache? Enable/disable
    Graphic Aperture Size? 64-512
    PCI...? 32-128 and so on...
I was runing on default (agp clock 66 volt 1.5 fastwrite enable video cache disable and grap apert 64 pci 32) and the games has some kind of lockups of miliseconds :(
I tryed to rase the graphic aperture size to 128, the pci to 128 and video cachable to enable but no fix, please should i change the agp clock and voltage.
Ps.: i also tryed to disable the fastwrite but no fix :P

The AGP clock should be left to its default setting, as well as the AGP voltage, except if you want to overclock your card´s memory, it could give you some help
AGP FastWrite should be enabled, it could deliver in a performance gain
SideBand Adressing will not be available if the card runs at AGP 8X (AGP 3.00 disables it) and as your mobo supports AGP 8X (nFORCE2) don´t enable it.
Video Cache gives no performace gain, except on DOS, it´s useless as well as System BIOS Cache.
AGP Aperture Size should be set at 128 MB, anything bigger is completely useless
And the PCI Latency Timer leave it in its default setting or in 64 clocks
Don´t touch the AGP speed or voltage because it will give you more problems than solutions. Try latest nVIDIA ForceWare drivers, latest nFORCE drivers and see if the problem remains.

  • MSI GeForce 210 not post in Sapphire A9RX480 mobo?!

This is a bit nuts. The MSI card is GeForce 210-MD512H:
    http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N210-MD512H.html#?div=Specification%22
...witch is basicaly fanless budget MSI GeForce 210 with 589/1024MHz clocks and 512MB DDR2 ram. All in all a budget card to do the work required and that it is. I never expect playing Crysis on it... maybe SoF2... lol!
However I wanted to use it in my Sapphire "Grouper" A9RX480 mobo (that is ATI chipset RX480-450 for SB) and it refuse to post. When I plug there my old good PNY GeForce 7800, then (even w/o the external power cable connected - DOS only, true) everything seems working out nicely!
Now that is a bit insane. Any suggested bios settings to make the card work? The mobo is fine, memtest passed all tests and never had a problem with it...
Yes, it is claimed to be 16x PCIEx speed... shall I try 8x? Or what should I do? The card is also tested in another computer and it is working nicely there...!

Oooops, I'm sorry. When way more powerfull and way more PSU demanding 7800 GTX works fine, then I never even mind that any other information is necessary, but whatever. Here we go:
    Board: Sapphire A9RX480 "Grouper"
Bios: oldest and even latest official version available tried, even moded version: http://ax2.old-cans.com/grouper - still same problem!
    VGA: MSI GeForce 210-MD512H ( http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N210-MD512H.html#?div=Specification )
    PSU: Enermax 620W Liberty
    CPU: Opteron 148
    MEM: Mushkin Enhanced DDR400 PC3200 (can do 2-2-2-5 :D - memtest fine)
    HDD: none
    COOLER: Zalman CNPS 9500 Led
    OC: none
    OS: none
It is just a mainboard, PSU and floppy sitting on chair near monitor (Eizo F35 Flexscan) for testing... Nothing else.
Tried 8x settings in the PCIE Bus Width, no difference :(
Some BIOS settings are really interesting - how about these?
    LTD Configuration - Enabled
Upstream LTD Bus Width - 16bit
Downstream LTD Bus Width - 16bit
    LTD Bus Frequency - Auto (1GHz, 800MHz, 600MHz, 400MHz, 200MHz)
(I know, this have more to do with the CPU memory controler that GFX card, but who knows?)
    PCIE GFX Core Payload Size - 64Bytes (32Bytes, 16Bytes)
    PCIE GPP Core Payload Size - 64Bytes (32Bytes, 16Bytes)
NB-SB Port Configuration - Default (Enhanced)
    PCI-E GFX Link Width - x16 (x12, x8, x4, x2, x1)
Assign IRQ For VGA - Enabled (Disabled)
...any suggestions? Tried 32Bytes (for the PCIE GFX Core Payload Size|PCIE GPP Core Payload Size settings), but no change. Eg. NO POST with this MSI card...
Additional info about the card: it is MSI GeForce 210-MD512H, on the PCB is near the heatsink and PCIE connector:
"V201" "VER: 1.1" and "Product of China" and near the "no trash" symbol is "D33008"
From the bottom side, there is a big letters "N1996" after a "Nike" checkmark and at the end of the PCB, some probably manufacture info:
    APCB M3 94V-0
    RU 0942 E230435
    E129N4774BB
Bought the card from friend, who replaced it with faster one. Tried with another computer, where it worked just fine (IIRC Gigabyte mainboard, but not sure about it) ...
Is there any bios fix for this card that help me out?

  • MSI GeForce GTX 970 with MSI Z68A-GD55 (G3) motherboard

    Hi!
I have seen a similar issue here that was resolved with the help of this forum. (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=251322.0). I still want to ask my questons however, since I have a slightly different situation.
I recently bought a new Graphics card, a MSI GTX 970, to replace my older EVGA GTX 570. After installing it, the time it takes to startup the computer is quite a bit longer. The very begninning of the startup process is the part that takes longer, I see a black screen and "B2" in the lower right hand corner, with the older GPU this was seen for a few seconds but now it stays that way for about a minute. After that I see some random colors in stead of the MSI logo and then the regular "Starting Windows" image appears, from there the startup is as fast as before.
When the computer has started it seems to work perfectly, and the new graphics card is great, everything on "ultra" in games etc.
I guess the way to resolve this issue is to update BIOS. I am a bit afraid of this however, of the risk of destroying something.
What would be your suggestions? Is it better to update bios or to leave it as it is, since the computer works? Are the any risks with keeping this bios version, that seems to have some issue with the graphics card?
Any help would be greately appreciated!

I have started looking at the instructions and have downloaded the installer and the bios file. It seems Norton Internet Security has some problem with the installer.  When I start the installer it reaches the point when it shows the current bios version, after that it is interupted by Norton. The reason that Norton gives is that it has found something called "Suspicious.Cloud.9.B" in the file b4.bks. How should I react to this?

    Orm,
To start with your power supply could be too weak to run the Athlon XP(Guessing you have an Athlon XP) and the GF4 under load.  150W combined and 14A on the 3.3v RAIL is not enough.
You could try removing your your firewire, sound and nic cards, and unplugging your two CD Drives.
See if you can get any farther then.  Also get the latest Detonator Drivers from the nVidia Website. They should be on 41.09 now.

  • IMAC's NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS w/512MB up-to-date?

I am currently using a 20" IMAC and have been thinking about purchasing a new one.
I was curious to know "*NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS w/512MB GDDR3*" is a decent "UP-TO-DATE" card?
When looking at a list of NVidia's current cards available at http://www.nvidia.com/object/graphicscards_buynow.html - they list cards that have "*Maximum Memory Bandwidth*" of 103 up to 147 GB/s. with up to 1GB memory size!
This sounds allot better than the 57GB/s Max Memory that the IMAC card offers, which isn't even half of some the current cards.
Should I be waiting for the IMAC to get updated with better video cards? or is this the best card I am going to see for a while with IMACs?
Thank you in advance for any help given.
    Message was edited by: Psychojkl

True, and those cards also cost $4-500. Nvidia has other cards with a similar memory bandwidth that they rate for extreme gaming. The GPU in the iMac is an on-the-board GPU which can provide reasonable performance at a reasonable price. It ranks about mid-way in Nvidia's 8-series of video cards. If you want something faster, then you need to move up to a Mac Pro. For the vast majority of iMac buyers the video performance is more than adequate. But if your software needs demand higher performance, then the iMac is not for you.
