Best connection for Video Monitor?

Thanks for reading,
I'm getting to the stage of my first FCE 4.0 project where I will need to monitor things through my intended display, and I'm just curious as to which connection is best. I've read about sending the video out through firewire to my camera, and then S-Video to the Monitor.
How about through my Mini DVI (through a DVI to HDMI converter) and then into the HDMI connection on my monitor?
I'm assuming that it has something to do with the video being sent back as interlaced when it gets processed through the camera?
Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Ok I had a go last night, firstly I tried out the Firewire through DV Camera, to my Monitor (the analogue connection was composite, I couldn't find my S-Video lead), I got the canvas up on the screen, but if I played the timeline I could hear the sound but would only get a static image on the monitor, when I stopped the playback, the image would update to the current point on the timeline.
If I step through the timeline, one frame at a time the monitor updates with each frame, but I cannot get continuous playback.
I then set about trying the DVI output (converted to HDMI into the monitor). I can get full screen canvas playback on the monitor by enabling the Desktop cinema mode. This seemed to work better for me, as I could get full playback, ableit with a few dropped frames, I think I'm finding the limits of my MacBook, unless I'm missing anything obvious?
Am I right in saying that through the DVI connection I'm still getting everything progressive (even in Desktop Cinema mode) where as I'm working with DV footage which is obviously Interlaced. I'm still fairly new to FCE 4.0 and editing in general, so am I right in saying the biggest problem with not viewing DV footage as interlaced is presented when it comes to colour correction? or are there other things I should be aware of?

External Hard Drive connected via FireWire 800 or Ethernet (Network) External Hard Drive connected directly to my iMac's Ethernet port?
Any Pros? Cons? How would that work? I am in a situation where I can exchange a USB 3.0 external hard drive (I totally didn't know 2011 iMacs didn't have USB 3.0 ports) with an Ethernet equipped (network) external hard drive.

I would go firewire even if the ethernet is rated 1Gbit/sec
not even sure how they will on adhoc networks which connecting it directly to the ethernet port would mean

I'm in the market for a laptop.  Which of Apple's laptops will I best connect 2 external monitors/displays?

I've just bought a Pro Retina. As far as I know this is the only one which will connect 2 external monitors running different programmes ie not cloned.
You use the 2 thunderbolt ports for the DVIs (if they're not Apple monitors)
You need 2 thunderbolt to DVIs. MiniDisplay port to DVI might work too (MIGHT WORK! Not sure yet) and these are a lot cheaper.

  • Connecting a Video Monitor to a G5- how?

I need your some help to understand how to CONNECT the following components of my DV system:
    1) a Macintosh G5 (the video card has both ADC and DVI connectors) with Final Cut Studio software and a 23" Studio Display (DVI);
    2) a Sony Digital Video Cassette Recorder (GV-D1000E PAL);
    3) a Canopus Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADVC-110);
    4) a Trinitron video monitor (PVM-14N1E).
I have posted a web page which shows the various connectors on items #2, 3, and 4 (above):
    http://www.johnhlincoln.com/PVM/
The problem is really with the video monitor, which has both S-video and BNC connectors. Please look at the web page, and give me your advice about how to connect it to the G5.
I may need a particular video card and/or cable, to connect the video monitor.
    Thanks In Advance.

    simplest configuration:
use a 6pin to 4 pin firewire cable to connect the GV-D1000E DV port to one of your G5's firewire ports
use a S-Video cable to connect the GV-D1000E's PAL "S-Video Out" to the PVM's Line A "Y/C IN"
monitor the audio through the GV-D1000E's speakers and/or use a dual phono to single phono jack (2 jacks one end, 1 jack the other) and connect the GV-D1000E's L&R audio outs to the PVM's Line A "AUDIO IN"
you don't need the canopus converter, the GV-D1000E already does that through its A/V and S-Video inputs

  • Which of these would be the best iMac for video editing?

Hello, pretty simple question, which of these 2 iMac configurations would be best suited for video editing? I want to use Final Cut Pro X and Adobe After Effects (not cutting edge effects just simple stuff).
    Option 1 - 21.5 inch
3.1GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
    16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X8GB
    1TB Fusion Drive
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1GB GDDR5
    Option 2 - 27 inch
3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
    8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X4GB
    1TB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2GB GDDR5
For some reason Apple don't offer more than 1GB of dedicated video ram in anything but the maxed out 27inch. Personally, I’m not fussed about the bigger screen and  I would say that having the faster processor, double the ram and a fusion drive would be more beneficial than the extra gig in the video card  but I’m not 100% sure, what do you guys think?
    Thanks.

If you do a significant amount of video editing the larger display is nice but not absolutely necessary. I’d also recommend an SSD or Fusion drive rather than the stock mechanical drive which really is dog slow. If you choose an SSD 8GB will be plenty though 16GB is better if you go with the smaller model.

  • Best practice for Video over IP using ISDN WAN

I am looking for the best practice to ensure that the WAN has suffient active ISDN channels to support the video conference connection.
Reliance on load threshold either -
Takes to long for the ISDN calls to establish causing the problems for video setup
    - or is too fast to place additional ISDN calls when only data is using the line
What I need is for the ISDN calls to be pre-established just prior to the video call. Have done this in the past with the "ppp multilink links minimum commmand but this manual intervention isn't the preferred option in this case
    thanks

This method is as secure as the password: an attacker can see
the hashed value, and you must assume that they know what has been
hashed, with what algorithm. Therefore, the challenge in attacking
this system is simply to hash lots of passwords until you get one
that gives the same value. Rainbow tables may make this easier than
    you assume.
Why not use SSL to send the login request? That encrypts the
    entire conversation, making snooping pointless.
You should still MD5 the password so you don't have to store
it unencrypted on the server, but that's a side issue.

  • Basic Strategy / Best Practices for System Monitoring with Solution Manager

I am very new to SAP and the Basis group at my company. I will be working on a project to identify the best practices of System and Service level monitoring using Solution Manager. I have read a good amount about SAP Solution Manager and the concept of monitoring but need to begin mapping out a monitoring strategy.
We currently utilize the RZ20 transaction and basic CCMS monitors such as watching for update errors, availability, short dumps, etc.. What else should be monitored in order to proactively find possible issues. Are there any best practices you all have found when implimenting Monitoring for new solutions added to the SAP landscape.... what are common things we would want to monitor over say ERP, CRM, SRM, etc?
Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions!

    Hi Mike,
Did you try the following link ?
If not, it may be useful to some extent:
    http://service.sap.com/bestpractices
---> Cross-Industry Packages ---> Best Practices for Solution Management
You have quite a few documents there - those on BPM may also cover Solution Monitoring aspects.

  • Best practice for video storage?

What is the best way for storing videos on external drives? I am a new FCP user coming from Sony Vegas. In Vegas I could import the .mts files into Vegas without the need of the complete file structure as FCP requires when ingesting to ProRes. Since Vegas worked in this manner, I store the .mts files in folders that are dated when shot. Now I'm faced with finding another program to convert to ProRes as FCP needs to complete file structure to ingest media. Another issue is that I have different types of shoots on one single flash card and I can no longer just dump the .mts files in dated folders. What is the best way of splitting up the flash card, yet keeping the required information FCP needs for ingesting media?
The solution would be to dump the videos to my external drive as soon as I'm done shooting, but most likely it's something I'll forget to do.
Anyone have any advice on storing videos that have two plus types footage of different events?

I have a tutorial that covers this...

  • My 11 year old Apple studio display died. what is best connection with new monitor

The lCD light finally quit after 12 years. So I bought a very cheap acer /led widescreenS200HQL 19 inch as a cheap quick replacement for my monitor on my  quicksilver G4 933. Question is it is connected to the second display port VGA... Is it worth buying a connector so it can be connected to the larger DVI port(where the apple studio display was connected?) will that make any difference??? Things seem fine but was curious as to the difference???

Many of the Studio displays were ADC. Are you sure that other port is really DVI and not ADC?
My 2004 MDD vid card has one DVI and one ADC connector. I have it connected to a Viewsonic display from about 2007 with both VGA and DVI ports. When I connect the DVI port directly to the DVI port on the G4, the native res looks good but it too small to read (old, tired eyes). If I change the desktop res to make things a little bigger, the image looks like carp--fuzzy and possibly some distortion.
If I use the DVI-to-VGA adapter on the computer and connect it to the monitor. the image is shape and proper at any support desktop res I select.
    You mileage may vary.

  • Best method for videos

I need some advice.  What would be the best method for putting a video on a page?  How would I go about this method?
Also, the person who wants me to put in this video likely has it only in dvd format (A professor who records his lectures).  Any suggestions as to a program that converts dvds to something simpler like a .mov or .mv4? Preferably a format compatible with the method I'm searching for.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Danielle,
there are so many possibilities (here too Google and the search function here in this forum could be your friends too ). That might be the reason that you didn't get an answer till now.

  • Best solution for 2+ monitors CS6

After reading discussions about the flaws of external hardware (matrox, BM, AJA) - or at least the drivers needed, I want to find the right solution for using two computer monitors for my Workspaces and a third (HDMI or HD SDI) output for a 37-inch program monitor (not broadcast, but decent Panansonic LED). I have been reading tons of specs and posts... what is best? I am planning a new CS6 workstation
         1. Dual Quadro 4000s
         2. Dual GTX 570s or 680s
         3. some new idea??
Why can't Nvidia make all three ports active on the Quadros?
Wishing Adobe would post more than just minimum specs, but some kind of details on levels of workstations based on types of workflows...
    Thanks,
    Diane
PS I've been using a $50 HP USB signal splitter on CS5 for a couple of months - it's been great - allowing me to spread my Workspace across two monitors with HDMI to the panny monitor. But that can't really be The Solution, can it?!?

GTX 670/680 cards support up to 4 monitors. Dual cards are not supported, nor is there a need for with the Kepler range of cards. Well, a bit more detail, you can install two cards if they use the same driver, but only one will be used by PR and the other only for steering monitors and that is a bit expensive with Quadros or the GTX 570/580, when a single 670/680 does the same job at much lesser cost and with better performance on most systems.
