Best design

dear gurus i wish to know what is best database design i mean menage cross table updation etc throug database or at form lever post etc triggers actually when i have some calculation field ( not in database ) i use forms post triggers etc is it appreciatable or it is'nt good design
2: are forms trigger r for non oracle database
plz do respond
thanx

Hi,
If you want to update the tables after commiting in Forms, its best to use Database Triggers.
If your Forms has a control block & you want to update some other tables, its best to use
Stored Procedures/Functions or Stored Packages.
If you want to calculate on some fields, its better to use Functions/Summary property provided in item's property box which is available from Forms 5.0 upwards. Avoid writing any triggers.
Forms triggers are 100% compliant with non-oracle database like SQL-Server, MS-Access etc.
Thanks.

  • What is the best design pattern for this problem?

No code to go with the question. I am trying to settle on the best design pattern for the problem before I code. I want to use an Object Oriented approach.
I have included a basic UML diagram of what I was thinking so far.
Stated simply, I have three devices; Module, Wired Modem, and Wireless Modem.
In the Device Under Test parent class, I have put the attributes that are variable from device to device, but common to all of them.
In the child classes, I have put the attributes that are not variable to each copy of that device. The attributes are common across device types. I was planning to use controls in the class definition that have the data set to a default value, since it doesn't change for each serial number of that device. For example, a Module will always have a Device Type ID of 1. These values are used to query the database.
    An example query would be [DHR].[GetDeviceActiveVersions] '39288', 1, '4/26/2012 12:18:52 PM'
The '1' is the device type ID, the 39288 is the serial number, and the return would be "A000" or "S002", for example.
So, I would be pulling the Serial Number and Device Type ID from the Device Under Test parent and child, and passing them to the Database using a SQL string stored in the control of the Active Versions child class of Database.
The overall idea is that the same data is used to send multiple queries to the database and receiving back various data that I then evaluate for pass of fail, and for date order.
What I can't settle on is the approach. Should it be a Strategy pattern, A Chain of Command pattern, a Decorator pattern or something else.
    Ideas?

Good. At least you will not be smaking with a OPPer dOOPer hammer if I make some gramatical mistake.
You may want to look at this thread in the BreakPoint where i trie to help Cory get a handle on Dynamic Dispatching with an example of two classes that inherit from a common parent and invoke Over-ride VIs to do the same thing but with wildly varying results.
The example uses a Class of "Numeric"  and a sibling class "Text" and the both implement an Add method.
It is dirt simple and Cory did a decent job of explaining it.
It just be the motivation you are looking for.

  • Best Design : for a SOAP -XI - BAPI ( Multiple )

    Hi all,
Need your suggestion on best design to implement a SOAP -XI - BAPI ( Multiple calls ) scenario.
NON SAP Application will make a SOAP service call to XI. This service need to call 2 BAPI's ( 1st call to get some reqd params for second BAPI call ). Also secon call need a commit.
    Whats the best design :
    1. ABAP server proxy
    2. BPM ( to handle multiple calls )
    Thanks and cheers,
    Anisha.

<b>>>>>>( 1st call to get some reqd params for second BAPI call ). Also secon call need a commit.</b>
    <i><u>1. ABAP server proxy</u></i>
Here u can have explicit coding and have better control over the process interms u will call the first bapi and the result of it will be passed to exporting parameter of the second bapi as required.
<u><i>2. BPM ( to handle multiple calls )</i></u>
    performance hinders as pointed out.

  • Best design running multiple instances of desktop based java applications b

    Hi,
I am not sure if this is the right forum...
Please suggest on what should be the best design for running 10 instances of same desktop based java applications (No Enterprise or Webcomponents) on different machines BUT still using the same database.
    Summary:
    a) Each application will do writes/updates to same database but will run from different locations.
    b) These applications will reside at different locations (example country, city) but same domain, so it will use separate JVM.
    c) How to tell application where it resides and what should be the best way to determine location automatically from the network? (we would like to avoid any property setting as update will require to change this file also), if database is good approach, what should be the best design.
    d) Best way to handle transaction...
for example, if one component that writes to an Oracle table, then a downstream component reads the new insert from the table. In this case what should be the best practice in the code for transaction awareness, to avoid issues.
    Thanks
    Val

Oracle runs a transaction control model on a thread--each login. All other threads will not be able to see the data that is updated or inserted until a commit is done. The same thread can, however, see the updated or inserted information as soon as the update or insert takes place a transaction commit is not needed for that to happen and it is not an error--you must do a commit to make the changes to the data visible to other users and persistent. If you do not commit the changes they will rollback once your session is terminated.
If you turn autocommit on, then each update or insert will automatically commit and be available to all users, but each statement becomes a transaction and you loose the ability to rollback any changes.

  • SOAP--- RFC best design

    Hi Experts,
I have developed SOAPu2014> RFC scenario synchronous and I have used sender side SOAP adapter receiver side RFC adapter, it is working fine.
But I am thinking to go with best design, I know if I replace RFC adapter with ABAP Proxy, performance will be good, but in my case due to some limitation I canu2019t go with ABAP proxy.
    Nest alternative is;
    1) Going with Advanced adapter engine, I am on PI7.1 EHP1, so I can go with that. But I canu2019t see messages in MONI, due to this, no AAE.
    2) Sending message directly to IE using SOAP adapter XI3.0 as message protocol, but I am not sure about this concept, can any one put some light on this.like any chnages required in WSDL.
If any one has inputs pls share with me.

  • What is the best design tablet with stylus to have an easy interface with Adobe Photoshop?

What is best design tablet with stylus for use with Adobe Photoshop for this holiday seasons offering 2013?
I am trying to find a tablet with good stylus  to work with Adobe Design products primarily Photoshop. I would like one that worked in layers with photoshop.
The folks a Wacom don't even answer the phone just a recorded message go to the web site with questions.  Not a good sign for a company. So what is a good design tablets for pressure sensitive stylus? Will wacom cintiq tablet interface well with Apple Imac IOS 10.8?
I love my Samsung note 3 but it will not easily transfer images to apple Imac 10.8.
Please help me find tablets with good adobe design interface?  Just tell me which way to jump. It is easier to leave Apple for PC or Android  than to abandon Adobe knowledge. The products have to work together.
Does wacom Cintiq not embrace an easy interface with Apple  Imac IOS 10.8 latest software. Wacom seems to be championing Windows 8 as a companion to their tablet interface.
Can an Ipad deliver good layered designs using adobe software design programs and a stylus?
What should I buy for an Adobe design tablet with pressure sensitive stylus for ths Holiday Season?
Should i wait until next year?
Will the tablet work in  Photoshop layers?

My understanding of 'bonding' comes from Multilink PPP (MLP) where the data stream is chopped up and split across two (or more) circuits. At the other end, a similar MLP-enabled device reforms the data stream from the multiple circuits, maintaining packet order. But this requires MLP-enabled 'bonding' devices at each end.
Perhaps you could help me better understand the Linux bonding...

If the firewalls operate in the same fashion as Cisco ASAs, then the inter-firewall link doesn't carry traffic. It's for failover detection and HTTP replication only. But like I said, I'm not familiar with this vendor's products.

  • Best Design practices of SAN with the MDS 9513,MDS 9509 and Brocade 8510

    Hi
Am searching best design to implement CISCO MDS 9513,9509, Brocade 8510,Storage and UCS all clubbed in the topology. And please suggest me any tool to compare MDS and Brocade 8510 performance.

    Boomi,
Both MDS and Brocade will serve basic features of Storage networking. Both can be mix and match to achieve redundancy, which you already have. However, if you are looking for any tool or perfmon then there isn't much to compare. You can use IOmeter or Akkori. I see that you have enterprise level hardware in your setup. Not sure what other line cards you have installed and what application are running through, and if you have remote sites (SAN islands) then the real difference of features and best practices can be discussed. For example, IVR, FCIP, ISCSI, FCoE, etc.

  • Best design structure for 4710's

We are implementing 4710's in our core network..
what could be the best design structure from a simplicity point
one interface vlan for for vips---connected front end to the core..and backend for servers (routed mode)
should you have more than one interface vlan for servers and or clients?
at which point would u need multi context.......besides an Admin context
should you put a management interface on each context?

We are implementing 4710's in our core network..
--what could be the best design structure from a simplicity point
Design would vary based on specific requirements. To connect it to a specific layer on the network (core/agg) you would have to check the traffic flow to decide what suits you best.
In terms of ACE design, if source IP visibility is not a requirement, One-arm mode with Source NAT provides the ability for non load balanced traffic to bypass the ACE. If it is a requirement you can use PBRs but that complicates things a little because you have to now manage the routers for changes on the ACE. With routed mode, the design is simple and servers point to the ACE as their default gateway. Need to weigh the pros and cons of each of the options based on the specific requirements.
--one interface vlan for for vips---connected front end to the core..and backend for servers (routed mode)
Yes - for routed mode that would be the way to do it. In this case, in addition to load balancing, the ACE routes non-loadbalanced traffic to/from the servers.
should you have more than one interface vlan for servers and or clients?
    - Depends in your subnets. If you have separate subnets for your web/app/db servers then it is a good idea to have different subnets. Also, you may want to think about separate contexts if you want complete isolation between the layers.
--at which point would u need multi context.......besides an Admin context
As far as possible, try to keep the Admin context only for administration. Make a separate context(s) for load balancing and manage the resources to it.
--should you put a management interface on each context?
Yes - that would give you the ability to have different users manage only their contexts.
    Hope that helps .

  • Best design idea for parallel DAQ (via GPIB), PID control and watchdog system

    Hello!
I am a starter programmer in LabView, I already understand the basic ideas, and design patterns, like producer/consumer, events state machine, functional global variables, and so on, so the basics...
I started a project a few weeks ago, and first I wrote and tested all of the necessary subvi-s for my project, like the ones initializing my GPIB devices (a Keithley mux and a dvm), controlling/reading out the measured voltage/resistancy values from them, subvi for my Static Analog Output card (I have to drive 7 analog output channels, 4 has to be PID controlled regarding to some of the measured values from the GPIB devices), and another subvi for the analogue card, sending TTL watchdog signals out to my experiment in every 2 seconds.
Any idea is welcomed about suggesting the best design pattern for my project.
The main features of my program would be:
After starting the user interface the program starts with a start-up state, initializes the DAQmx channels and the GPIB devices. The program starts to read out different values from the GPIB devices, including 4 temperature values in every 3 seconds.
In the same loop (?), using PID control, the program sets the DC voltage values of 4 channels (3 to heating wires, 1 to a Peltier-heat pump) on the Static Waveform Analogue output card, the remaining 3 values are constants.
I have to send digital TTL watchdog signal to some relays from the same output card, changing its state in every 2 seconds (not the same rate as the GPIB values are read out).
When the 4 temperatures and the power values regarding to the heating wires are equilibrated after a few hours, the program goes into another state, and signals to the user, that the measurement can be started. During a measurement, I write out all of the measured values to a TDMS file, and there is also some basic calculations "on the fly", like a moving average.
After the measurement done, the user can swap samples, and the program goes into the above state, waiting for equilibration . and so on...
Do you think I should use a Producer/Consumer pattern with events? Or someone would recommend me a better design idea?
    Thanks very much!
ps.: I read out lots of values from the Keithleys, so I put them in a cluster. I made a small test vi (attached without the GPIB comm subvi-s), just to test the GPIB comm. So this is the recent state of my project. (all other subvi-s tested and ready to use as I wrote above, like the DAQmx output part)

    Okey
I think it is a better approach if I work first, and after I ask
I go with small steps. For first, now I just want to make a DAQ analog output loop, and parallel a watchdog loop sending out TTL in every 2 seconds.
The main loop in my project will iterate with approx. 10-15 seconds.
I want to check in my watchdog loop, if my main loop hangs up (in that case the PID control stops, but the danger is if the output voltages stay on).
After some readings, I have decided to use a functional global variable.
I have attached the vi, can someone give me advice, what would be the good solution for this purpose?
(I know it is a bit silly what I messed up with the shift registers in the bottom loop, it was some experimenting).
    Thanks in advance!

  • Is this the best design for asynchronous notifications (such as email)? Current design uses Web Site, Azure Service Bus Queue, Table Storage and Cloud Service Worker Role.

I am asking for feedback on this design. Here is an example user story:
As a group admin on the website I want to be notified when a user in my group uploads a file to the group.
Easiest solution would be that in the code handling the upload, we just directly create an email message in there and send it. However, this seems like it isn't really the appropriate level of separation of concerns, so instead we are thinking to have a separate
worker process which does nothing but send notifications. So, the website in the upload code handles receiving the file, extracting some metadata from it (like filename) and writing this to the database. As soon as it is done handling the file upload it then
does two things: Writes the details of the notification to be sent (such as subject, filename, etc...) to a dedicated "notification" table and also creates a message in a queue which the notification sending worker process monitors. The entire sequence
is shown in the diagram below.
My questions are: Do you see any drawbacks in this design? Is there a better design? The team wants to use Azure Worker Roles, Queues and Table storage. Is it the right call to use these components or is this design unnecessarily complex? Quality attribute
requirements are that it is easy to code, easy to maintain, easy to debug at runtime, auditable (history is available of when notifications were sent, etc...), monitor-able. Any other quality attributes you think we should be designing for?
    More info:
We are creating a cloud application (in Azure) in which there are at least 2 components. The first is the "source" component (for example a UI / website) in which some action happens or some condition is met that triggers a second component or "worker"
to perform some job. These jobs have details or metadata associated with them which we plan to store in Azure Table Storage. Here is the pattern we are considering:
    Steps:
    Condition for job met.
Source writes job details to table.
    Source puts job in queue.
    Asynchronously:
    Worker accepts job from queue.
    Worker Records DateTimeStarted in table.
Queue marks job marked as "in progress".
    Worker performs job.
Worker updates table with details (including DateTimeCompleted).
    Worker reports completion to queue.
    Job deleted from queue.
Please comment and let me know if I have this right, or if there is some better pattern. For example sake, consider the work to be "sending a notification" such as an email whose template fields are filled from the "details" mentioned in
    the pattern.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your posting.
This development mode can exclude some errors, such as the file upload complete at the same time... from my experience, this is a good choice to achieve the goal.

  • What is the best design to connect redundant Firewalls to redundant switches?

    Hi All,
I would like to know the best possible design to connect redundant Firewalls(Netscreen,FortiGate etc) to redundant switches.I have dealt with Cisco FWSM's in which both the Firewall and switch is in the same chassis. So for the Vlan's behind the Firewall, we just create the L3 interface on the fwsm and do a static route in the switch. The Gateway IP will be tied to the primary fwsm and the failover happens through the network. But now i need to know the best possible design when i am connecting to a different vendor firewall.
Let's say i have 5 vlans and all these vlan's are behind the Firewall. The redundant switches will have the L2 vlan's created and have a static route to the Firewall. I am proposing the attached design in which i will have L2 vlan's created on the switch and L3 on the Firewall. The Firewall's and the switch will be connected with one trunk port and an access port for uplink and downlink traffic. The two switches will be connected each other using a vlan trunk. The two firewalls will be connected using a redundancy vlan.
I am not so sure about the working of other firewalls such as Netscreen and FortiGate. I am also confused with the traffic path that the frames will take by having this design. Please advice if you have any suggestions.
    Appreciate your help and advice.
    regards

  • Architecture Question regarding RPD (Best design practice)

Hello, I need some design help regarding the best way to build a RPD for a Bank. Your help / guidance is greatly appreciated as always:
    Following is data (example)
    Revenue ALL (1 million record)
Revenue by filter A ONLY (250k)
Revenue by filter B ONLY (50k)
Revenue by filter C ONLY (150k)
Revenue by filter D ONLY (25k)
    Requirement:
    Report Revenue ALL
    Report Revenue % A of ALL = (250k / 1 million) * 100
    Report Revenue % B of ALL = (50k / 1 million) * 100
    Report Revenue % C of ALL = (150k / 1 million) * 100
    Report Revenue % D of ALL = (25k / 1 million) * 100
Should i build this from a single FACT source or should i have something like the following:
    Source one: Revenue ALL
Source two: Revenue by filter A ONLY (250k)
Source three: Revenue by filter B ONLY (50k)
Source four: Revenue by filter C ONLY (150k)
Source five: Revenue by filter D ONLY (25k)
All of these will have ONE common Bank dimension allowing me to join across if needed.
Essentially, the question is, should i use a single source table containing ALL data or have multiple sources each providing me exactly what i am looking for?
    Thanks,
    Jes

I would use single source data at ALL level and then filter it as needed.

I prefer to use the above siginature in the JSP. Instead of doing all calculation in the view page, we can put the calculation logic in the Beans,
just use jsp to display data to the user

  • Best Design for Home Network Between PC and Mac

    Good day, all!
Forgive me if this has been covered before - I could not find a thread addressing this very issue.
I have an iMac, and my wife refuses to give up her PC.  She is also not that great at routinely backing up her PC laptop, leaving it to me to do it periodically.  To address this, I purchased an Airport Extreme and hooked up an external hard drive, hoping that she would use it (she doesn't).  I partitioned the hard drive such that half is formatted for TimeMachine (I periodically hook up my iMac physically to the hard drive to perform back ups) and the other half is formatted such that both the PC and Mac can access it, though neither can automatically back up to it.
(If you've made it this far: thank you, thank you, thank you.)
I would like to set up the network in a more efficient manner.  I realize that doing so will likely preclude me from taking advantage of the TimeMachine function, but I would like to design this home network such that my wife's computer will automatically back up to the hard drive (she has tons of pictures and does not routintely back them up) and allow all computers to easily access and "sync" with the external hard drive.  In other words, I would like to create a way in which the local hard drive of each computer (or a folder within) mirrors the contents of the network (Airport Extreme) hard drive.
I understand that Dropbox sort of does this by having a folder on each machine that syncs with each other and with an off-site server, but I prefer to keep it local (and not pay a monthly fee).
Is this possible?  Or should I simply maintain separate hard drives for each computer?
I appreciate any and all help.
    James

Ok, first be aware that Apple does NOT support Time Machine backups to an AirPort Disk (an external USB HDD connected to an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn)). These may appear to work for a while, but it's only a matter of time before them become corrupted ... and I highly recommend that if your data is critical to stop using this method.
At best, the AirPort Disk can be used for file storage. It may also be possible to use it with a Windows-based backup solution, but not Time Machine. One example product for Windows is Genie9's Genie Timeline Home which is similar to Time Machine in operation.
With that said, the best backup performance (for either OS) would be to either use a dedicated external HDD attached to each device or to use a dedicated NAS device ... preferably connected by Ethernet. Some NAS devices also provide Time Machine support. One of them is the Drobo FS.
