Best dock application?

Hi, I wanted to know which of all the dock applications out there its the best, I currently use the gnome-do docky theme but it lacks some features, and sometimes icons are very ugly.
I have heard about cairo-dock and Avant Window Navigator, but I guess there are a lot more. Well I dont know which app to install, so I wanted to hear some feedback from you guys to decide which one to install.
thanks in advance

flamelab wrote:Docky is standalone for some months as far as I know. Try docky-bzr from AUR.
That was one of the thing I was confused about, people talk about the gnome do docky theme and docky pretty much like the same app and I didnt know why. Now I get it, the theme was so successfull they decided to do a standalone app for it. I like docky a lot but dont know how to integrate it with gnome do, is there anyway to do it? For example, with gnome do dock I was able to search for anything and then hit the + sign, with docky I cant, is there a way to do this?
regards
PS: docky is in communityu repo, the docky-bzr in the AUR you mentioned, is it a newer version or a rework or something like that?

I've encountered a bug and I haven't noticed messages from

If you use an Application Control Bar, set it's dock property

    Hi Harry (and others),
I have seen similar behavior. It seems like the client side rendering for some reason has a hard time processing the collection model wrapping the ArrayList in this particular case. The table renders empty. After sorting in ascending order, the rows are all back (visible) again.
Is anyone aware of issues with the rich table based directly on ArrayList (in combination with a changing set of values and/or sorting)? (seems like a corner case but is still not uncommon). Is there any indication that wrapping the ArrayList in a CollectionModel ourselves might be required?
Harry: do you know whether this issue is introduced with PS3 (11.1.1.4) or already existed in previous releases?
    kind regards,
    Lucas

  • Quit all open dock applications at once?

Is there a way to quit all open dock applications at once? I find it time-consuming to go in and quit applications I have used in the dock one at a time.
May be I don't understand why they even stay open after I quit what I was doing with them? Is it possible to set it up that way? I find it is not very Mac-like
to have to go in and quit 5 or 6 items in the dock one at a time. Can you please shed some light on this for me? Thank you for your time and patience.

No, but there is an alternative.
Press command+tab to show the application switcher. While keeping the command key held down, you can press q on a selected application to quit it. The only one you can't quit is the Finder (as this is the application that shows you your Desktop).

  • Dock application gets killed itself on Lion, how to debug this issue?

Hi, Dock application gets killed itself and it dissappears and relaunches itself after for few seconds, This is happening for every 5 min or so. it is quite annoying problem. how to debug this issue? any help?

When I look the system logs - there is an exception each time I try to run the application or open a window:
9/5/09 10:33:12 PM Linear[23545] Cannot create BOOL from object <Regression: 0x1461f0> of class Regression

  • Why is the Dock application consuming CPU?

I got a new MacBook Pro 15" retina display, migrated my data from my old mac, and now the Dock application is consuming a ton of CPU on the system.
I have found many other threads in these forums, many of them quite old. They typically suggest a problem with VMWare fusion or Parallels, neither of which I have on my system. They also suggest removing the com.apple.dock.plist file and killing the application, which did not help, nor did removing all applications from the dock and quitting all other applications.
What else can I do to try and fix this problem?

Have you tried restarting the computer? Also,
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
You can also kill the Dock process using Activity Monitor.

  • Create a custom dock/application icon for .jar files built in eclipse

I've spent the better part of the afternoon trying to figure out how to apply a custom icon to jar file that I created in eclipse. I am presently using eclipse v3.5 on Mac OS X 10.6.2 and have yet to find a way to change the java coffee cup logo in the document icon for my jar files created in eclipse. Is there some way I can call a specific Apple class in Eclipse to change the dock/application icon of my .jar file?
I found this link that uses a class that seems to be specific to XCode to change the icon of the .jar file.
What I mean by change the icon of the jar file, I mean change the icon used in the dock, and also the icon used when the "command+tab" switcher pops up. Presently, I have the black console icon with the text "exec" in the upperleft.
If anyone has any good links on this topic or even better knows the code I need insert into my program I would be highly greatful.
    cheers

  • BEST CREATIVE APPLICATION 4 BURNING MUSIC & COPYING MUSIC OFF Z.MIC

Please help me. I just wanna know what the best creative application is to burn music and or copy music off my Zen Micro. I've looked at all the details, but I just don't know which one to choose. All the help, suggestions, and feedbacks will be greatly appreciated.

I like Zen Micro Media Explorer. It's similar enough to Windows Explorer that I didn't have much of a learning curve to drag & drop files into my ZM.
I'd rather listen to music than have to spend a lot of time learning how to use new software- I've got enough on my plate with PhotoShop.

  • MCX to Configure Client Dock Applications best Practice?

I want to use WGM preferences to manage which applications show up on a user's dock when they login. The server does not have the same applications installed as the client machines thus do not show up as an available option to add using WGM.
_The Question:_ *Is is bizarre to install client applications on the server so it may be available to to add to a user's dock preference in WGM?*
Currently I'm using changes I've made to the default user template as a work around to getting the dock configured to our needs. Not my favorite way to administer 6 labs, but functional right now. If it's okay, I was thinking about installing all the software we use on our client machines on the server.
Is there a better way of managing the dock for clients in a multiple lab environment?

Run the WGM application from a workstation that has the same applications installed in the same locations as on your client workstations. Do not make changes to the user templates on the server or the workstations. When setting the preferences for the user's dock, do not select the checkbox, 'Merge with User's Dock', as that combines the customized settings you create with the dock settings from the user template.

  • Icon not showing up in dock Applications menu

This isn't a problem that affects the functionality of my laptop, but it just annoys me and I wondered if anyone knew how to fix it!
I installed a new program, and it works just fine. But the "correct" icon for the program does not appear in the Applications menu. It looks normal on the dock, but the icon in both Applications menus (in the Finder and on the dock) is some kind of error/default icon. It looks like a piece of paper with a pencil covered by a white circle with a line through it (as in the symbol on a 'no smoking' sign.)
Does anyone know how I can get the icon of the actual program to appear here? Thanks!

I just hit this problem as well, earlier this week when my MacBook keyboard stopped responding, so I expected it had something to do with a problem with the hardware or software on my laptop.
Now that I'm doing some diagnostics on the drive and the hardware, I am NOT finding any kind of specific problem that would be causing icons to stop showing in the Dock. As others have clarified, this problem is NOT that icons show up as "not allowed" with the circle-strikethrough icon, but that the application does not appear *at all* - the spot below the icon indicating that the application is running appears, but the application icon will not display. I have had this issue with both applications that are running and applications that have been quit, and either state change can cause the icons to disappear, but I can't find a way to reliably reproduce the issue. Icons just appear or disappear seemingly at random.
Once the surface scan is complete on the drive I've been using as my main boot drive, I'll try the "move-app-from-Apps-folder, then-back-again" trick to see if it gets the icons to appear again.

  • Best dock for sound system

I'm looking for either a dock or a/v cable that will give me the best sound from a high-powered serious sound system, not a "micro" system. I've tried a Belkin audio cable connected to my headphone (audio out) jack but the sound is unacceptable. Is the Apple Universal dock or Apple AV connection kit the way to go or something else. I have a Denon receiver pumping out 7 x 110 watts per channel.

i think i have the same denon, it's a 3805. Don't have an answer to your question though.

  • Best Office Application

I'm looking for a good Office application for iOS. Something that is advanced, much like this:https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/word-docs-microsoft-office/id645778970?mt=8
If you notice, I'm talking about the screenshots and its tools the app includes. I bought this, but I'd like something newer, better if you know of any. Perhaps similar tools but more advanced. Or in general, I just want a good office app that I don't need to zoom in for -- an app that fits text to screen automatically.
Do any of you additionally know if this is any good?: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/word-on-go-document-writer/id655397428?mt=8

    Hi Antoine,
    >> The best approach for me is to use the Restfull API for Excel that will permit me to manipulate range, cells, worksheet within my application.
I’m not sure if I understand your question correctly. But if you want to manipulate the Excel document only, I will suggest you using OpenXML SDK, especially for the server side automation.

    >> What is the best way to communicate with Excel within a desktop application, to have both visualization, and edition?
For the Office desktop side automation, I recommend you using the Excel Object Model (Office Interop).
    Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel namespace
    Hope it will help.

  • What is the best email application for OSX

I have installed/purchased several applications for my MBP and MBA and most are acceptable (not great). But, all I've triedhave the same shortcoming.  That shortcoming is the poor perception that the user wants to drain all of the unread emails from the server onto the hard drive.
Most modern email clients allow the user to choose a logical limit on the emails that is sync'd/downloaded automatically.  The Apple email client and Sparrow email client both fail to consider that the current thiking is not all that different than the thinking in the early 90's and that is "USE THE NETWORK (or fancy name - cloud) TO KEEP THE MASS DATA.  ONLY DOWNLOAD THAT WHICH IS NEEDED/DESIRED".
Well, maybe our wonderful Apple users out there have researched this and located a modern email client (one that is at last up to the 20th century) and allows the user the choice not to get 53Gb if email when he just wants to answer the current threads of conversation.
    Thanksfor your insight and help!

    Thanks MichaelPM,
To touch on a general point... I find that seldom do I represent a unique case, just the most vocal or ahead of the curve.  Often because I know a lot about many computer and phone related things (since I have been an engineer for excess of 30 years and have had many hobbies that take my knowledge back to mid 70's)
Related to some of your suggestions:
    - If I wanted to have a copy of the email archived then this would not be a problem. But it is still a copy and replicated.
    - I seldom get SPAM, this is email related to consulting, training, running a few groups, hobby groups, ... It is a small portion since the email address was drained by a poor email client in 2004 and I have had several accounts prior.
    - The exact issue is this:
         - I have LOTS of email on a server
         - There is no need to get ALL that email onto any one client since it is accessible from them all while on the server. Any object oriented person knows a copy is not a copy.
         - When I click on an email address in an application (such as a brwoser) I would like to open a functional email client
         - OSX has inconsistent results when a browser tries to be the email client (so does Windows - but less often)
         - When I use my email client on non OSX systems I can get the current emails and work with them alone (not all the email is on the system, slowing it down, consuming hard disk space, ...)  Modern clients DO THIS.
         - When I need to access historical emails then I will happily use the webmail client and access the mass
So, let's take a different look at this and observe the current press by industry to get the users reliant upon "cloud services" to access their data.  Well, the behavior of downloading the lot to the hard drive is contrary to getting the public hooked on paying for access to their own data.  So, realistically it is in the best financial interest of a company that wants to build a reliance upon connected resources to leave the data where it resides and not share their profits with hard disk manufacturers.
But, honestly... I just want a simple and useful feature that is quite old to be in a simple application on my modern computer.  Why? because it is simple and useful and the way I have done email correspondence at least since POP3 introduced the "last" command in 1993 and subsequently replaced by the UIDL mechanism.  Yet, it is not available in any OSX apps I can find and is in most apps on other OS'.  I really dislike using a VM to read my email the right way and jumping between OSX and the VM when I want to click on an email address to send a mail.  Move me ON TO my OSX not away from it when I search for simple and basic functionality.

Yes, I had the same problem and also it was an intermittent problem. I was having trouble with Safari and Mail which I used most often. Sometimes after a while it wouldn't give me the problem but usually I would restart and it would work, but later after my computer was asleep it would give me the problem again. I was even having problems with Safari opening windows in a new tab and not the same window even though it was set to open in the same window.
Solution: Drag the preferences 'plist' for the 'finder', 'dock', and 'desktop' to the desktop and restart. You will have to reset your preferences, but the only one that took any time was the 'dock', because I have a lot of apps there. You might even want to try one at a time to see which one might be the corrupt list. /users/your name/Library/preferences/com.apple.dock.plist/
Hope this helps you, I don't think anything is wrong with your mouse or your mouse button settings.
