Best Drive For "Disk Cache"

Hello Everyone.
By default, the After Effects Disk Cache is located somewhere in the "C Drive", Temp Folder.
Since all the applications are Installed In the "C Drive", Therefore, Is It better to use another Hard Drive for the temp folder or just leave It alone ?
Both my "C Drive", and my Other drive each have a 400 GB of Empty Space.
My Drives are not SSD Drive, just a regular Hard Drives.
Thanks.

Cache should be on a the fastest drive on your system that has a fair amount of free space. Simple as that. If your fastest drive is the same drive that contains the OS and there is a bunch of free space then that may be the best option. If you have other drives on your system that are as fast, then pick one of them. It's as simple as that. Cache needs room and speed before it needs to be on a separate drive.

  • What Size Drive for Media Cache?

    Hi there,
I'm about to edit a large project (5TB of 4K RED footage and counting) on a laptop and am intending to use the setup below for disks. Ideally I would have gone for a "4 disk" setup, but I've maxed out my eSATA connections and would have to use USB for anything else. If coincidentally you can see any problems with this configuration please let me know!
    Disk Setup
    C Drive 750GB (OS, Programs)
3x 2TB Drives in eSATA docking stations (Media, Projects)
Second internal hard disk (Previews, Media Cache, Exports)
I'm intending to install a second hard drive in my laptop to use for the  Media Cache. What size/speed drive should be used for this purpose?
    Thanks!

Perhaps only that the predominant holy grail on this forum is achieving a high PPBM score, not necessarily edit 4K.
I've worked with 2K and 4K files on very slow machines, and I am not an editor - a systems integrator.  It's being done.
Personally, I wouldn't dedicate a disk or a volume to media cache and DB - I believe that money is better spent on the main media volume's speed and capacity.  People who have done it on modern (not old) systems haven't reported much of a performance boost.  But if you find otherwise, I'd love to hear about it.
In your case, since you don't seem to plan to have a relatively fast main media volume (e.g. an eSATA RAID0), a separate drive for media caching and database may have a performance benefit.  The size of it depends on the size of your projects, how complex your project and timelines are, how much rendering they require.  Usually even a small disk (under 100GB) will do just fine for the purpose; the current "sweet spot" is around 256GB SSD and 500-750GB 7200rpm mechanical drive.

  • Best parameter for passwd cache in nscd.conf

    Hello,
I'm looking for the best parameter for passwd cache in nscd.conf for a mailserver.
    Our environment:
    SunFire V240, Solaris 9, 2GB Memory, 2 CPU
about 5000 users in an OpenLDAP 2.1.x-Directory
    pam_ldap, nss_ldap (PADL)
The users must authenticate for IMAP, POP and SMTP_AUTH (about pam_ldap) against the local LDAP-Server and the SMTP-Server also looks there for local accounts.
It seems, that the time to authenticate (and e.g. directory listing) takes too long at the first access. The second time the access is faster and I think, it has to do with the nscd cache.
But, which values are right for the passwd cache for such an environment?
    Any hints are welcome!
    Thanks,
    Heidrun Schmidt

The man page for nscd.conf gives some performance enhancing suggestions.
Also, What is your cache hit rate on the LDAP server? In Sun ONE, I have to increase the slapd cache size for large environments. Also, is the LDAP configured for the correct indexes?
Are you sure the mail server processes use the UNIX auth mechanism or do they query the LDAP directly (ala Sun ONE iMS)? If they query LDAP directly, then nscd is bypassed.

  • Best Driver for GX630

    Hello all, I apologize if this is a repeat of a previous topic;
I own a GX 630, and have had it for about a year, or more, now. I understand it isn't top of the line gaming, but I expect a certain amount of performance out of it.
Recently I've been having trouble with WoW and the game seems to run fine until the video card gets exceptionally loud for about 5-10 seconds, then performance drops to under 10 fps. The laptop seems to experience abnormal heating issues as well.
Before this happened I had been playing around with different drivers to see, pound for pound, what was the best driver for the laptop in terms of monitoring heat and giving suitable performance.
In short, which is the best driver out there, in your experience, for the GX630 32 bit?
    Thanks so much.
    Cheers!

You won't see it at the outtake, the dust is at the beginning of the exit.
Have a look at this, it will give an idea of what I mean: http://tech.icrontic.com/articles/clean_laptop_heatsink/
Don't do this yourself if you never opened a laptop!

  • Best driver for XFI Titanium

Hello I am new here and confused with all these driver options and differences with sound between Windows XP and Windows 7 as I've heard that from Vista Microsoft took away proper hardware support from these cards.
Please kindly can someone provide me the best driver for use for Creative XFI-Titanium PCIe sound card?
I need it to perform surround sound in headphones via CMSS-3D I think it is called.
    Thank you very much.

    `Thanks for replies.
    So I have installed the?
    SB X-Fi Titanium PCI-E Install Disc .0
    from http://forums.creative.com/t5/Sound-Blaster/SB-X-Fi-Titanium-PCI-E-Install-Disc--0-unofficial/td-p/556425
I am not sure what the difference between the support pack and this is to be honest. So I just installed this one as it comes with more updated software.
    edit:
Sorry I forgot to mention that in device manager under sound controllers it lists
    Creative SB X-Fi
Does this mean that my system is not properly recognised or doesn't it display the specifics such as Creative X-Fi Titanium for example? Thanks...

Your best bet is the latest DetonatorFX Drivers from the nVidia Website. They will be the most up to date drivers you can get.

  • Best Solution For Automatic Cache Refresh

    Hello SDN,
I need to know the best solution for automatic cahe update so that we donot get a runtime cache error in SXI_CACHE.We scheduled SAI_CACHE_REFRESH After every 1 minute, But is it the best solution???
We need to know if there are better solution than this?
We have had a look at the "how to Guide on Cache" also. But if we want an automatic refresh after every object is activated whats the best solution.
It works with this but we want to know if there is a better solution or maybe even an implication on using this, as we did not find any documentation on SAI_REFRESH_CACHE.

  • Best Driver for MS SQL Server 2000

What is the best JDBC driver for use with kodo and SQL Server 2000. The
driver provided by Microsoft is terrible (no news there). I would
appreciate either recomendations from SolarMetric, or from people who have
had success with a SQL Server implementation.

We've used Sprinta and Opta from i-net Software
    (http://www.inetsoftware.de/) and they're not bad.

  • Best driver for T61p atheros wireless a/b/g card?

Hey guys I was wondering what model the card was and what the best driver was or which driver had the most tweaking options?  The driver works fine on Win7 x64 but I've got other laptops that have way better range.  Thanks

    Hi:
Below is the link to your service manual.
Supported cards with corresponding part numbers can be found in Chapter 3. Removal and replacement procedures can be found in Chapter 4.  It is a relatively easy procedure--the most difficult part is attaching the tiny antenna leads to the card connectors--and it isn't that difficult.  If I can do it, you can do it.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02842252.pdf
Since your notebook specs state you have an Intel processor/chipset, you are in luck that you can install the
    Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 Part # 631956-001 WLAN card.
Here are the specs on that card from Intel:
    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/centrino-advanced-n-6230.html
Now, this is very important...You MUST get the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 card WITH the HP part # on it.  No exceptions. So, do your search for a vendor (if you don't want to get it from HP) by the part number.
If you do not follow the above guidance and buy just any old centrino 6230, your computer will not boot until you remove the unsupported card.
Wireless cards have to be tested and validated with the antenna system in the notebook in order to comply with the wireless communication regulations established for many countries--in the USA, the FCC for example.
HP ensures compliance with these regulations by locking out any wireless cards that were not tested and validated to work with the antenna system installed in the notebook. Needless to say, HP is only going to test a few cards for each model notebook.
Here are the USA FCC guidelines regarding this matter, if you are interested.
    http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/kdb/GetAttachment.html?id=22884
If you want to buy it straight from HP, it is available for $41.52 + tax and shipping, I presume.

  • Best driver for photosmart p-1100 on windows 7

HiWhta is the best driver to load to allow me to still use my older photosmart p-1100 printer with windows 7 ?

I was having this same issue and found a solution. I was thrilled when I upgraded to 7, until I found out that MANY drivers and applications are just not compatible. BUT....here's the loophole: you can set the program to run in Windows Vista compatibility
mode and it WILL work. To do this: 1) Download the driver utility (CS330.exe in this case) to your desktop. Note: I used the CS330 driver for Windows XP and am running 64 bit Windows 7 on my computer. 2) Right click on the icon and select "Restore Previous
Versions" 3) Select the "Compatibility" tab. 4) Check the box for "Compatibility Mode" and select "Windows Vista (Service pack 2) from the drop-down menu. 5) Click "Apply" and then "Ok" 6) Reboot your computer
and click on the icon to install. Follow instructions given on the screen. Hope this helps!
I tried this, doesn't want to find the driver in the c:/temp/cs330-xp dir

  • Best Driver for GeForce GTX 680MX

What's the best driver version number to use with the GTX680MX graphic chipset to use GPU acceleration without problems? (Win 7 64bit) Installed at the moment is 306.37 but the latest version is 320.49. I ask this question because I have seen Adobe refer to 311.50 as the latest recommended driver to use for the Quadro 4000 card (and other Nvidia cards). There is not a 311.50 available for the GTX 680MX. The version numbers start in the 310.xx range up to 320.xx
Does anyone know what Adobe recommend?

Using GTX 460, GTX 480, and GTX Titan cards, all of the 320.??? drivers are working fine for me for CS5, 6, and CC. (my testing has been from the older ones all the way up to the latest beta driver).
The only tip I would provide is to change one setting from the default:
    - 3D Settings / Manage 3D settings / Power Management mode = Perfer max. performance (default is "Adaptive")
Bottom line, I suspect for a GTX 680 with premiere, the exact driver version does not matter too much.
Also, BTW, I only load the GTX driver using the custom install option; nVidia wants to add loads of additional stuff that simply is not required for Adobe.

    Jim

  • What's the best driver for an Epson Stylus Photo R260 printer?

After the last couple of driver updates for Mavericks, my printer won't print just black although it is using the black ink to shade colors darker. I previously used another driver but didn't buy it after the trail period was up but now I'm getting desperate. Unfortunately, I can't remember that driver's name. Does anyone have a suggestion for a driver for an epson stylus photo r260 inkjet?

How are you trying to set the print to just black? Are you setting the color to Grayscale under Print Settings in the Print window?
Should be the same for the 260 as the 280.

  • Best driver for dual-screen and 3D with Radeon Xpress 200M [solved]

Sorry for the mild thread necromancy.
At what resolution do you run the external display? According to AMD/ATI, the radeon xpress 200m supports only up to 1600x1200, but I think I've used bigger displays with no problems.

  • Best practice for IE cache

    Hi, all.
Over the weekend, we applied the SPS17 to the ECC6.0 server running on dual stack. We also updated the HCM EHP3 to stack 6.
We have a lot of WD for ABAP and WD for JAVA applications running on the ECC dual stack server. The contents are federated to the consumer portal running on EP7.0 SPS21. Note the consumer was NOT patched during the weekend.
On Monday morning, we get many calls from users that their HCM apps are not working on the consumer portal. The error can come in many different ways. The fix so far is to clear their IE cache and everything works again. Note that the problem doesn't happen to everybody, less than 10% of the user population. But the 10% is enough to flood our helpdesk with calls.
I am not sure if any of you has run into this problem before. Is that a best practice to delete the IE cache from all the users after an SP upgrade? Any idea to see what caused the error?
    Thanks,
    Jonathan.

    Hi Jonathan,
I have encountered a similar situation before but have unfortunately never got to the root cause of it. One thing I did notice was that browser versions tended to affect how the cache was handled for local users. We noticed that IE7 handled changes in the WDA apps much better than certain versions of IE6. Not sure if this is relevant in your scenario.
I assume also that you are not using ACCAD or other WAN acceleration devices (as these have their own cache that can break on upgrades) and that you've cleared out your portal caches for good measure. As far as I know in ITS, if you've stopped and started the WDA services during the upgrade then the caching shouldn't be a problem.
    Cheers,
    E
