Best DSL router Settings?

Im not sure how to explain it but I need the best setting for my wirless router so it is at its best performance. For example when I connect directly from my modem it gives me the best quality but when ever im connected wired from my router or wirless i have a crappy connection. I never download anything or everything is off but I still have crappy connection. So when I do download something.... well thats a long a sad story. Any ideas or good settings im not sure what info u need from me. I would like to learn but Im pretty new to this

Check this link to upgrade the router's firmware.After upgrading the router's firmware,reset the router for 30 seconds,power cycle the router and configure it from the scratch.

  • Airport Extreme Base Station as bridge for Westell DSL router

    I have searched the forums & internet and for the life of me cannot get my network to work properly! I hope you can help.
    Here is the situation (I rent so chances are we will not be moving hardware anywhere):
    - Westell (Verizon) DSL wireless router downstairs connected to the internet, 1 iMac via ethernet, and 2 ibooks via Airport cards
    - One lonely Powermac G4 upstairs that does not have a wireless card
    - One extra Airport Extreme Base Station with firmware version 5.7 installed & connected via ethernet/LAN to the G4
    I figured the "easy" thing to do would be to use the AEBS as a wireless bridge to get the G4 online. The network utility has occasionally thought that the G4 was connected to the internet, but the internet didn't work at all when it said that!
    I have been configuring the AEBS using my wireless ibook (G3). I "unchecked" distribute IP addresses, and "checked" connect to network via WDS. I used the Westell's MAC address as the main WDS source. Under the "WDS" tab, I said to configure the AEBS as a remote station and the Westell router as the main station, and to allow wireless users to connect.
    I have tried using the same Network name for each. WEP/WAP is NOT set up on either modem, so passwords aren't a problem. They are both set to channel 6. I am configuring the TCP/IP settings manually.
    When the network names are the same, the internet either stops working, or the computers can't find the AEBS.
    I don't understand why the AEBS seems unable to see the DSL network.

    Hi,
    Well, what I have been able to do is this:
    I have a Westell Wireless DSL router, just like the one mentioned here, and just like the one mentioned in the article I made reference to, the one started by Mr. Müller.
    As was mentioned in the Mr. Müller article, there are some possibilities that will work. They were submitted by a guy named Duane, from Texas. He gives three alternate possibilities, which he entitled "Solution #1, Solution #2, and Solution #3. He says all three of these alternatives will work, and in reading them over I came to the following conclusions: First, he really knows his stuff, and second, his proposed solutions would probably work.
    Based on his comments I decided to take a risk yesterday - I put my older Mac Base Station in a drawer and invested in a new Airport Extreme.
    Anyway, I digress...
    What I've done is follow Solution #3. And it works! I now have a connection from my laptop to the Airport Extreme base station and the internet. I am typing this message using that connection. All I had to do was disable the wireless connection of the DSL router (using their software, of course), and connect the Airport Extreme, via the LAN Ethernet connector, to the Westel DSL router.
    Now, all that remains for me is to extend the range of the base station, using an Airport Express. I haven't had any success with that yet, but I see no reason why I shouldn't get it to work eventually. If you can help me out with that, though, I'd sure appreciate it.
    Best regards,
    Patrick

  • QuickVPN - RV110W behind DSL Router

    Hi all,
    I have a Cisco RV110W behind an Actiontek V1000H DSL router supplied by my ISP.
    I'd like to be able to make use of the Cisco QuickVPN client. According to my ISP placing the Actiontek into bridge mode cannot be done.
    On the Actiontek I have forwarded the following ports to my RV110W's address:

    Hi, Rudi & Craig
    I just tested another diffrent way, which way as Craig's book did, I set
    Master's IP is DSL Router inside IP which same as "PUBLIC" Network Card's
    IP address (10.0.0.101) when setting the MASTER's configuration in
    iManager, it still working fine. Then it will be the best way if the ISP
    change my static Public IP.
    BTW, Craig, when you have chance, can you memtion this on your web site or
    in your book (when you have new version book), BM38SP5 got a bug, the
    vpn.jar cannot set Non-BM VPN Slave (I used Linksys router for Slave
    server), I called Novell support engineer, he said Novell knew this error,
    I have to use the vpn.jar which in BM38SP4_IR5 to setup Non-BM VPN Salve.
    But there is another problem, the vpn.jar which in BM38SP4_IR5 cannot set
    MASTER VPN server. The only way to do the job is install BM38SP5, setup
    MASTER VPN server, setup C2S VPN, then copy the vpn.jar which in
    BM38SP4_IR5 in, to setup Non-BM VPN Salve. I hope you can understand my
    poor Engish.

  • How do I configure my time capsule to DHCP mode?  I had to replace my DSL router, had a network set up before.

    I recently had to replace my DSL router.  My provider, Earthlink, walked me through the setup and I do have internet access if I connect directly to my Mac.  When I tried to use my time capsule, it would not work.  The Earthlink tech said I needed to reconfigure my time capsule to DHCP mode.  I tried the set up manual and could not make sense of it.  My 90 free service is long gone.

    and the text in the router mode box came up DHCP and NAT, but the lettering was in a lighter shade than elsewhere and I could not open the drop down box.
    You would have had to change some other settings on the AirPort to be able make changes in the drop down Router Mode box.
    Your AirPort is already configured as Earthlink suggests.
    Try powering off the entire network...all devices....in any order you want
    Wait a few minutes
    Start the Earthlink modem first and let it run 2-3 minutes by itself
    Start the Time Capsule and let it run a full minute
    Keep starting other devices the same way until everything is powered back up
    Check the network
    If still no improvement, I think you need to let Earthlink know that you have done as they asked, and ask for more steps to try.
    Hopefully, another Earthlink user will see this post and offer any special information or tips that only they would know.

  • Problems setting up WVC80N TZO account using my 2701HG-T 2Wire DSL Router

    Hi!
    I have 2 WVC80N cameras and I´m using a 2701HG-T 2Wire DSL Router, they are already configured and i can see them wireless, but i tryied again and again to configure both TZO accounts and always recived the next message:
    Oops, there was an error when setting up your camera for remote access.
    The wizard cannot automatically configure your router due to an invalid or unknown password. Please check your password settings on your router and try again. In many cases, your router may still have the default password setting.
    Can somebody help me? What i need to do? Is there another way to watch them throug internet?
    Regards!
    Ed.

    That link above wont work for you, you have a WVC80N and the signup is ON THE CD, not via the website.
    This error is due to the router password not working, do you know the admin PW for the router to add/remove port forwarding rules?
    If not, call your ISP or whoever gave you the router and get the password then try the setup again

  • Yoga 2 11 drops signal on Airport router - change router settings?

    i have spent several hours with Lenovo tech supports (all perfectly friendly), trying to fix the issue of the Yoga 2 11 consistently dropping the wifi connection at my workplace.  Two important considerations:
    * It's not entirely on the Yoga, as it does not have this issue with home wifi, coffee shop wifi, etc.
    * And several other PC and Mac desktop and laptops have no trouble with the workplace wifi.  The problem is definitely the way that the Yoga interacts with the Airport router.
    Lenovo tech support has made numerous changes to my drivers, system settings, and so on, but cannot fix the problem. The next solution is to return the Yoga to factory settings -- a solution I'm convinced will not work as I've already returned one laptop to Best Buy for the same problem. In other words, two Yogas, directly out of the box (presumably with factory settings), had this issue.
    My question is -- is there possibly a way I can change the Airport router settings (or set up a new network entirely) that might be more compatible with the Yoga 2 11 with Intel Wireless-N 7260 card?  If I can't get the Yoga to talk to the router, maybe the router can be changed to talk to the Yoga.

    Which model AirPort Base Station do you have?
    To determine that open AirPort Utility, select your base station, then position your cursor over the base station's name. Reply with the text shown adjacent to "model".

  • I have changed my DSL router and my Airport express device doesn' work anymore

    Hello, After I changed my DSL router (from my internet provider, it's a netgear), my Airport Express doesn't work anymore. It shows a yellow light.
    I have tried to unplug several times with no success. The Airport utility on my Mac (running MacOS 10.6.8) doesn't discover it.
    Any idea?

    Unplug the AirPort Express from power
    Wait a minute
    Hold in the reset button on the Express and keep holding it in for an additional 7-8 seconds while you simultaneously plug the Express back in to power
    Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 40-45 seconds for the Express to restart and come back up to a slow blinking amber light.
    Now the Express is back to factory settings
    Look for a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxxx. You have to log on to that network first....no password is required.....then open AirPort Utility

  • SQL Plus cannot connect (computers connected via DSL router)

    Hi!
    I have two computers connected locally via DSL router. One's IP is 192.168.1.64 and the other's IP is 192.168.1.65.
    I try to connect to 192.168.1.64 via SQL plus from 192.168.1.66 by issuing the following command: sqlplus system@"192.168.1.64/orcl.168.1.100" and receive this error: "ORA-12170: TNS: Connect timeout occurred." I thought it was Windows default firewall that caused this and therefore changed windows' firewall settings in 192.168.1.64 by adding port 1521 into windows' firewall list. Now I receive this error: "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener."

    Assume you have the following in your tnsnames.ora:
    larry =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myhost)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = curley)
    Now, when you issue a connect, say like this:
    $> sqlplus scott/tiger@larry
    tns will look in your tnsnames.ora for an entry called 'larry'. Next, tns sends a request to (PORT = 1521) on (HOST = myhost) using (PROTOCOL = TCP), asking for a connection to (SERVICE_NAME = curley).
    Where is (HOST = myhost) on the network? When the request gets passed from tns to the next layer in the network stack, the name 'myhost' will get resolved to an IP address, either via a local 'hosts' file, via DNS, or possibly other less used mechanisms. You can also hard-code the ip address (HOST = 123.456.789.101) in the tnsnames.ora.
    Next, the request arrives at port 1521 on myhost. Hopefully, there is a listener on myhost configured to listen on port 1521, and that listener knows about SERVICE_NAME = curley. If so, you'll be connected.
    A couple of important points.
    First, the listener is a server side only process. It's entire purpose in life is the receive requests for connections to databases and set up those connections. Once the connection is established, the listener is out of the picture. It creates the connection. It doesn't sustain the connection. One listener, running from one oracle home, listening on a single port, will serve multiple database instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. It is an unnecessary complexity to try to have multiple listeners. That would be like the telephone company building a separate switchboard for each customer.
    Second, the tnsnames.ora file is a client side issue. It's purpose is for address resolution - the tns equivalent of the 'hosts' file further down the network stack. The only reason it exists on a host machine is because that machine can also run client processes.
    What can go wrong?
    First, there may not be an entry for 'larry' in your tnsnames. In that case you get "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified" No need to go looking for a problem on the host, with the listener, etc. If you can't place a telephone call because you don't know the number (can't find your telephone directory (tnsnames.ora) or can't find the party you are looking for listed in it (no entry for larry)) you don't look for problems at the telephone switchboard.
    Maybe the entry for larry was found, but myhost couldn't be resolved to an IP address (say there was no entry for myhost in the local hosts file). This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
    Maybe there was an entry for myserver in the local hosts file, but it specified a bad IP address. This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
    Maybe the IP was good, but there is no listener running: "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener"
    Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, but it is listening on a different port. "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error"
    Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, it is listening on the specified port, but doesn't know about SERVICE_NAME = curley. "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor"

  • WRT1900AC - 2118 Error on Router Settings and Firmware Update

    I bought a WRT1900AC in June and it has worked great. I was able to configure it fine after buying it with no problems. I wanted to make an update recently so I logged in and found that I couldn't access the router settings. When I tried I would get an error 2118.
    At first I only got the error when clicking on "Connectivity" but was able to access "Troubleshooting". I powered off/on the router and everything still worked at this point except I was now getting the error on all router setting options Connectivity, Troubleshooting, firmware update msg that would display at the top of the admin panel. I tried more reboots/resets and nothing error error error.
    I contacted Linksys support and after being on the phone ALL day they deteremined that the router must be defective. I brought the router back to best buy and they gave me a new one. Now I bring this one home and right out of the box the msg I get is "Your router was not successfully setup" and the error at the bottom is error 2118. I have tried rebooting/resetting and I can never get past this screen. After a reset I have tried to choose to configure manually and am able to login to the admin panel but I get the exact same error as with the original one error 2118 on any of the Router setting options and again it is displaying that there is a firmware upgrade available but I get the error 2118 and I click on "update". I have even followed the instructions on trying to use TFTP to update the firmware but all I get is "Unable to get a response from the server".
    Right now the status is my internet works and my wireless works but only with the orginal network name and password since I can't change it.
    FYI - Tech support kept pointing to my browser but I have tried from several devices and same issue.
    Tried from:
    winxp - IE8, firefox, chrome
    windows7 - ie, firefox
    ubuntu 12.04 - firefox
    ubuntu 10.04 - firefox
    Cleared caches and rebooted on all and same issue on all. My last linksys router went 7years 0 problems, ah man this sucks if anyone can help I would be grateful.

    Thank you so much for replying.
    Working from win7 IE11
    -windows firewall disabled
    -antivirus software firewall disables
    -disabled anitvirus software
    -disabled  browser security add-ons
    -cleared browser cache & ran ccleaner
    -added linksyssmartwifi.com and 192.168.1.1 to compatibility view
    tried accessing linksyssmartwifi.com and am getting "Your router was not successfully setup"
    tried steps when connected from wifi or LAN Port 1
    Have tried the same steps but selected to configure manually so I could login with local access. I can access any of the Smart Wifi Tools but I can't access anything under "Router Settings' ie: Connectivity, Troubleshooting, Wireless or Security. I get the error 2118 so even though I have downloaded the firmware update to my desktop I can't upload to router since I can't access that page. Also if I click on the New Firmware available click here link I get the same 2118 error.
    When I click on details of the 2118 error it reads:
    http://linksys.com/jnap/router/GetWANStatus2 : {} -- Status: 200 OK Content-Type: application/json; ...

  • MX200 standalone behind a DSL router

     I need to deploy a standalone MX200 (non registered) connected behind a DSL router and want to make calls via H323. What sort of configuration is needed for this to work ?
    Will it be similar to an EX90 setup in the same way where we set the port allocation to static and setup the H323 nat address
    Where are these configuration options to set on a MX200
    Thanks
    Ambi

    HI Ambi,
    Yes, the MX200 runs the same software as the EX90 you mentioned as well (TC software) - so the way it's configured is pretty much identical.
    If you've got the EX90 working, duplicate similar settings on to your MX, open up the firewall ports, and you should be good.
    There are plenty of threads in these forums that describe the ports required and the NAT configuration.

  • AX + Actiontec GT701D dsl router configuration

    Hey new here and I see some guys are really trying to help out, thanks for that.
    Here's what I'm trying to do. I would like to create a wireless network using my dsl router and my AX so that I can connect my Macbook, my PC, and my ps3. In the past I used a cable router with AX and it worked well, I now changed my configuration and have issues.
    I now have a dsl modem connected to my AX. The wireless works on my macbook, but not on my PC or PS3, they connect to the wireless network but cannot go online. When I type an website address in my PC browser, it doesn't work, but when I type its IP address, it works (DNS issue?). My PC and ps3 can be connected directly through the ethernet of my dsl router and work well online.
    Here are the configurations of me dsl router, if you need more info let me know:
    Actiontec GTD701D
    ISP protocol: PPPoE (autoconnect)
    IP type: Dynamic IP-DHCP
    DNS type: Dynamic DNS addresses
    Here is the configuration of my Airport Express, let me know if more details needed:
    Connect using: Ethernet
    Connection sharing: Share a public IP address
    Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    Thanks a lot if you can help!

    If you have the AirPort Express connected to one of the LAN ports on the Actiontec router using an ethernet cable, you would want to configure the Express as a "bridge".
    Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
    Update to save settings
    Your current setup has two DHCP servers on the same network. You only want one DHCP server on a home network. When the Express is in bridge mode, the DHCP service is turned off.

  • What is the best dsl modem to use with the Airport Extreme for AT

    I'm looking for the best dsl modem to use with AT&T service. I'm not really interested in their equipment. I have the newest model of the AE.
    Thanks

    I'm looking for the best dsl modem to use with AT&T service
    I have no idea if the Motorola 2210 is the "best" device to use, but it has been flawless in 5+ years of operation.
    I believe that there is a new version of the is product, now called the 3360. I normally switch modems after about 5 years of use and will use the 3360 in the near future.
    This support article from AT&T provides some valuable information about how to configure a router using a modem:

  • What is the best wireless router for my imac G4

    i need a wireless router for my imac g4. Which one do you recommend? All all wireless routers capatible with macs?

    As Donald mentions, the routers are all compatible with Macs, but the software CD that they include often has Windows specific software on them that is really just a front-end for configuring the router for use. It does nothing that you cannot do yourself manually by accessing the router through the IP address that gets you into the router settings.
    If it sounds difficult, it certainly is not. Once you are in - and that is simple - the router's info is in a nice graphical interface that is simple to use.
    I use a Netgear WGR614 for my mixed Mac-PC network at it works like a charm. I got it at Best Buy for $39.99.

  • Installed a new DSL router, now AirPort won't work

    My DSL router started dying a few days ago. The tech from my provider came right out and replaced it; the wired connection to my MacBook Pro is fine, and the wireless connection to the old iBook G4 via AirPort initially worked OK, but now the house wifi name won't even show on the menu.
    When the new router was programmed, it was set to "Enable DHCP Server".
    The router is a Comtrend ADSL. I'm logged onto it now, and the settings at the "Management" control panel DHCP are "enable" and "disable". Is there anything I should change there?
    Under "Access Control", I'm shown a table headed "Feature/root/support/user/apuser" with category titles like "account access", "wireless - basic", and "wireless - advanced", and under the "account access" category, there are popdown menus with choices "none", "LAN", "WAN" and "both". Is there anything I need to change there?
    Any ideas? I'm kind of feeling my way through this, so apologies in advance if nothing makes any sense.
    Machines involved in this fracas are a G4 iBook, an Intel MacBook, an iPad2, and a couple of iPhones. Main wired connectivity is OK on a MacBook Pro, which is probably snickering smugly as I type this.
    Thanks in advance,

    almost all Netgear routers have a firewall. So log into the router. Username Admin and password is probably password. If not these days they print in on the bottom of the router. Check the ports used for mail are not blocked.

  • [SOLVED] Setting up a DSL router?

    Hello there.
    I am having trouble setting up my DSL router with Archlinux. It is currently running with Vista and has all the correct settings already configured. I am unsure of how to properly set it up and have tried various configurations which resulted in pppoe-start timing out, sometimes with an error. I have two network cards (One integrated into my Asus A8V motherboard and the other a 3com.) I am not sure which is eth0 and which is eth1 but I set rc.conf to eth0 and tried both.
    The DSL router is a Dynalink RTA1320 which I believe runs a version of linux with a 2.4.x kernel.
    Isn't including the login and DNS addresses when running pppoe-setup unneccesary as the router is already set up with them? I have setup the router's IP address (192.168.1.1) as the default gateway.
    Last setting tried was:
    lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
    eth0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(eth0)
    gateway="default gw 192.168.1.1"
    routes=(!gateway)
    I have also tried routes=(gateway).
    Any advice?
    Last edited by Phineas (2008-03-15 23:22:34)

    Thankyou everyone for your help. I re-installed Arch ("oh those newbies!") and then went straight to configuring rc.conf without using pppoe-setup. I have configured rc.conf like so:
    lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
    eth0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(eth0)
    gateway="default gw 192.168.1.1 eth0"
    ROUTES=(!gateway)
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs crond dhcpd)
