Best DSLR with Sony EX-1 and FCS

Looking to invest in a DSLR to use as a "B" camera for interviews and was wondering which model from Canon, Nikon or Sony would work best with our SONY EX-1. Price around $2000- $3000.
Obviously, I don't want it to match perfectly just something that has a fairly smooth and stable workflow.

Canon 7D, or Panasonic GH3. With the Canon you can Log and Transfer the footage into FCP as ProRes, with the use of the Canon EOS Log and Transfer plugin. But you can also use MPEG STREAMCLIP or Compressor to convert.
And you can use those with the GH3, if you shoot H.264, but it also shoots AVCHD...in which Log and Transfer should work. Or you can use ClipWrap2 to convert that footage.

Requesting Help with Sony DCR-HC36 and Premier Elements 8

First and Foremost, I'm a complete amatuer with respect to video and I'm new to the forum.
That being said, I'm trying to capture video from my Sony MiniDV camera model # DCR-HC36 with Premiere Elements Version 8.
Everytime I go to File>Get Media>DV Camcorder, Premiere tells me there is no DV camera connected.
I'm using an HP PC running Win 7 Home 64bit. I installed a SIIG PCIe Firewire 800 card into the HP and am using the 4pin to 9pin Firewire cable.
The Firewire 800 card installed fine. I can see it in the Device Manager.
I also tested functionality of the Firewire card by connecting an External Firewire Hard drive. The HD worked perfectly.
Do I have to install some drivers for the camera itself? If so, does anyone know what they are and where best to get them? I checked Sony website and the available downloads are actual programs that I don't really want to mess with.
FYI, I hooked the camera up to a Macbook Pro, opened I movie and the Mac just about did all the work. (I know, I know, but please no comments about switching to a Mac.) lol.
So, I do know the camera Firewire port works fine.

Device identification should be automatic, whether Firewire or USB - sadly though sometime it isn't.
One of my Sony devices (A100 DSLR) requires that the camera be switched before inserting the(for the A100) a USB cable or it is not recognised in the Organiser. It you have only been switching the camera on after connecting the cable you might try turning it on before.
From the specification your camera has both USB and Firewire connections. Have you tried the USB?
If the above doesn't work for you then you should probably install the Sony Picture Motion Browser (PMB) software. It may install a driver for your camera.

Sony PMW-EX1 and FCS 2 - any issues?

After being hooked by the Creative Cow on the Sony PMW EX1, and then doing some more research on the Prosumer camcorder, I'm really interested in this unit. Cost appears to be about the same as the Panasonic AG-HVX200 $5800 or so. But what I like most is the true 1920 x 1080 resolution the Sony provides.
BUT, heard some rumors that the Sony doesn't get along so well with FCS 2 ?

although this post is answered, I have some feedback on ex 1 cam. I am in Australia and have had the camera for around one month. I have shot some footage around town but only on 35mb vbr setting as i don't want to water down quality.
the camera is very heavy in the hand but no real issues. onscreen histogram helpful too. i played out footage to local tv station camerapeople and they were very impressed. i did this on a bravia 3100 full hd set by component hd in(btw) very little artifacts on movement.
On capture though it is a little bit of a leg exercise to bring stuff into fcp6.02. You must have all latest software 6.02 installed and sony transfer software etc.
I tried usb from camera to mac pro and it is very(too) slow. on my mbpro i used express slot and it is very fast and easy.
Therefore if you have both mbp and mp comps you should target you mac pro into MBP and then capture direct from SxS card to your capture scratch folder which is very fast.
THIS WILL BE A POPULAR FIX AND SAVES BUYING A CARD READER(V.EXPENSIVE)
Of course if you don't have a MBP, you are in the clag, so to speak.
I am really surprised these cameras are not available freely yet.

Is there anything I have to do (re camera set-up), to make sure that editing in FCP7 will go smoothly?

O.K., the cobwebs are beginning to clear a bit. Editing in the same format seems to be key. And ProRes seems to be your first choice.
With regards to my EX-1 footage: I just checked Sony Clip Browser, and it seems to only give me the option of exporting as MXF for NLE, or MXF for various XDCAM types (including HD422 and DVCAM), or RAW DV.
Should I export as one of these (if so, which one)? And once I've exported as one of these, do I then use Compressor or QT or MPEGstreamclip to convert to Pro Res?
With regards to the P2 footage (sorry, I don't know which P2 camera it is, and I don't have access to it until the day I shoot; I do know, though, that it shoots 1280x1080. My Sony EX-1 shoots 1920x1080, by the way) - - will the P2CMS software export as Pro Res directly, or do I also have to do this in two steps?

FCP with Sony PDW-1500 and U1

Hi I am using FCP 6.0.6 wiht XDCAM Xfer 2.10. My sequence is ProRes 422HQ 29.97 and my clip is ProRes422HQ. I export via Sony XDCAMXfer into a MXF file and drop the MXF to the clip folder.
When I playback on the PDW-1500 there is no audio coming out from the deck but there is audio via SDI monitor. Is there some setting to do with FCP stereo and mono? As I was ask to change to a compatible setting by XDCAM XFER and I choose SOny XDCAM 4221080i60CBR.
Any advise.

Anyone else having any luck with Sony raw files and the Raw 3.8 Compatibility fix?

Tried importing my raw photos from my Sony Nex-5N. Supposed to work with the Nex-C3 which should be the same. Have to use Lightroom instead of Aperture - would prefer Aperture.

I'm not sure as you have some extra letters on the cameras you cite, but Aperture 3 should support the Sony Alpha NEX-5, not sure about the 5N.
When you do import, what happens? When you plug in your camera (how are you importing) and hit the import button, what happens next?
More information the better for us to try and help troubleshoot the issue.

Best connection with U-verse Gateway and AirPort Extreme

These past couple of weeks I've been having problems where my AirPort Extreme (connected to my U-verse Gateway) has been randomly rebooting. I had Apple exchange the entire unit along with power cables and AT&T has already switched out the Gateway and it was STILL rebooting. I finally reset both to factory settings and started fresh. I turned off the Wireless on the U-verse Gateway and the Extreme is in Bridge Mode. That is how its always been and luckily fixed the rebooting. I am now having issues with my devices losing connection. For example, on my iPad Air, it'll show it is connected to my Network, but going onto Safari and trying to load a page gives me the "Server Not Responding" error. Issues also happen on not only Apple devices, but on a Wii U where I get connection errors. I HAVE NOT had these problems on my iMac (which is wireless), just on these other devices. I have not messed around with DMZ Plus Mode or changed any settings on the Gateway other than turning off the Wireless. I think it might have something to do with IP Addresses or something, but I am really not sure. If you have this same set-up, are you having these issues or what settings do I need to change? AirPort Extreme 5th Generation

Ok so I began by reseting both devices and that fixed the majority of the "Server Not Responding" errors. BUT now I'm getting the problem where the AirPort Extreme randomly reboots. Like all of a sudden, all my devices will be disconnected from WiFi. When I go to the router, the Amber light is blinking then goes back to green. This was the issue from the very beginning and it really is very annoying. Can anyone help? If not, I'll try to contact AppleCare and post their solution in case somebody else is having these issues.

Look over the HP dv6t ( 15.6") or the dv7t (17") here. Both of the mentioned models also come in quad versions. Both can be configured with a display to support 1920 by 1080 resolution. Both models can be ordered with a 160 GB flash module.
You would need to play with the configurator to adjust the configuration to your needs and your pocketbook.

Sales Dept as example
Just installed BO4 and want to give Sales Dept their own folder and allow users full control over their own documents within Sales Flder but ensuer they don't have permission to delete other Sales users reports in this folder nor delete Sales folder itself.
Would defined schedule access privilege achieve this.
Want to ensure delete privilege tight and users can only delete their own reports and can't delete folders.

You can achieve this by creating your own Access Level where you can include the right "Delete object that the user owns".
For the requirement: Sales Group should only be able to see Sales Folder:
Assign View Object right to Sales Group first on the Public Folder keeping the option "Apply to sub-objects" unchecked. Then you can assign the custom Access Level to the Sales Folder which includes the right as per your requirement.

IPhone doesn't work with Sony Marine Receiver CDX-H910UI

My iPhone doesn't seem to be working with my Sony Marine Receiver CDX-H910UI.
Whenever i plug my phone into my Marine Receiver it only says 'reading' for a really long time and does not load or allow me to play songs.
I have only noticed this problem since the iOS4.0.1 upgrade.
Is there anyway i can fix this problem or notify apple about this problem so that they could fix it in a software upgrade?
I would appreciate all of the help i could get.

I just got off from chatting with sony tech support and they confirmed that i need to wait for the update to be released to support the compatibility of the upgraded iPhone. They asked me tobookmark and monitor their support page for the update.
I had exactly the same problem as you have and whent through resetting both the iphone and stereo but at the endo no solution.

MacBook Pro (Unibody) with Sony XDCAM EX-3 SxS card does not work !

Having bought my 2nd MacBook Pro now with intel chips etc. I was horrified to discover that when I downloaded the XDCAM EX : SxS PRO Device Driver (Mac V1.0.1807) it screwed up the MacBook Pro by taking 10-15mins to get to the desk top. I called a friend who bought the last version of MacBook Pro and it works fine. So where do I go from here.

I just got off the phone with Sony Tech Support and here's what I found out.
-yes they are absolutely aware of the problem (yay!)
-there are conflicts with the SxS driver and the new trackpad driver (hence the loss of some multi-finger gestures and general system sluggishness)
- they're writing a new version now. beta should be next week. then a 1.1 release "2-3 weeks from there"
-the new drivers should be announced on the website sony.com/xdcam under the software section
when I had the driver installed, it did allow me to view the clips on an inserted card. so basically we just need to bear with this for a little while so Sony can fix things. The guy on the phone was incredibly helpful and obviously knew what he was talking about, couldn't thank him enough.

Need help with configuring web root and root url URL

I have been trying for a while to the flex 4 tutorial which asks you to connect to a mysql database. I have been able to configure the DB but cannot figure out what my web root and root url should be. Is there a web service that needs to be deployed or started. Would it be the IP address of the database that I created ( I tried that ) . I get the idea that an apache service must be started somehow on my flex environment and then I must find the root of the apache server. I dont see an apache directory anywhere. I am finding this difficult to know where to begin.

First you need to be running a web server on your computer something like wamp/mamp is usually the better choice as most people have had the best success with this server setup(and it has all the current services like php and myssql)
When you use the wizard the path to your webroot is usually whre you located the wamp/mamp install, for windows it maybe something like c:\wamp\www not 100% sure about macs but I think the 'www' folder on a mac is 'htdocs'.
your url is either http://localhost or http://127.0.0.1.

I have PremierePro-CS5 installed.
This stereo 3D camcorder (Sony HDR-TD10E), output an .MVC (MultiViewCoding) file, coded in H.264 format.
This format is already compatible with Bluray3D stereoscopic format.
1) But, how to edit the .MVC in Premiere?
2) What plugin should I use (if exists) for PremiereProCS5?
3) Cineform Neo3D, can manage the .MVC format? Can convert it to Cineform format file, for import it into Premiere?
4) What software should I use to convert an .MVC video to an AVCHD H.264 file, and import it into PremierePro CS5 or CS5.5 for editing?
