Best DVD burner software for mac

I have made some simple movies I want to burn to DVD with menu options.  What is the best (at a reasonable cost) burner softwar to puchase. Have done some research and read the reviews but still confussed.

Handbrake to copy to avi or mp4(I use it for watching my DVD's on the go, so my battery lasts for a longer time)
I think MP4 is better quallity.
To copy a DVD: simply use Toast (maybe withe popcorn, but I don't use it).
But, be legal! This is a forum, and anyone can see your posts!

  • Best DVD Burning Software for My Powerbook

I just got a burner and was curious as to what the best software for burning was?

The point is Popcorn does two things - compresses non-protected DVD media to fit a single DVD and some file conversions many of which you can cover with QT pro or MPEG Streamclip.
Toast 7 does as well plus is a full service DVD /CD writiing program. Popcorn came out while Toast 6 existed which did not compress.
For some reason Roxio still pitches Popcorn 2 and tries to sell it relentlessly to Toast 7 owners at a discount, which makes no sense. Since Toast 7 has the technology. I guess I should not be surprised as Roxio still pitches the new Toast 7 to people who already upgraded at a discount to Toast 7. From Roxio.
As for a DVD burning program, it is not that at all - it is a MPEG-2 compressor and that is the extent of its value other than file conversions. You cannot make data discs or anything else since that would limit sales of Toast 7.
The OP wanted a DVD burning program not a one hit wonder. Too bad you bought Popcorn, no need to flog it to people who want better.

  • HT1645 Hello, does anyone know of good DVD burning software for Mac?  I've got two 8 min 25 sec mov files to put on a DVD with title and a menu for the two.  I've tried it with iDVD five times, each time waiting over an hour and then getting an error mess

I have a short film I produced and I need to burn off copies however I am having no end of trouble with finding a simple DVD burning programme.
I tried a few but no luck.  I am trying with mov files and I can't see where the cog is happening.  If anyone has any good and relatively inexpensive solutions, please let me know!
    Thanks so much!
    Cheers

    Welcome to the forums.
If you'd like to continue trying with iDVD, one of Apple's resources shows HT 1645 to be an encoding error (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1645), so I would suggest starting a new iDVD project and set the iDVD Preferences to make sure they match to your project.  In particular, you should be using the Pro encoding setting or Best Performance for projects with a total length under an hour (http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5417).
Roxio Toast is an excellent burning tool and part of my work flow after I've used iDVD to create a disk image.  Toast will not have the nice iDVD menus, but can do many other tasks besides DVD creation.  (Disk images can help in the DVD creation process -- here's one of many discussions:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/15469221#15469221)

You will need software from the duplicator manufacturer. Have you checked their web page?

What's the best FTP server software for Mac OS X Server?
We have looked at a few different applications out there (Rumpus, CrushFTP, etc...) and are wondering what the community feels.
Apples built -in isn't robust enough. We do need some advanced features (reporting, SFTP, a web interface would be nice etc...).
    Opinions?

    Hi
For me it has to be RumpusFTP Server:
    http://www.maxum.com/Rumpus/
It has a secure web interface - no need to open ports 20, 21. No need for dedicated FTP client software for uploading and downloading. Supports the most commonly used browsers. Multi-platform support and can be installed on a standard client OS.

After that's there's the usual list, DataRescue, FileSalvage. General reading on this topic - http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/datarecovery.html  It would help to know the actual problem since sometimes a straight answer to this kind of question isn't always the way to a solution to the real issue.

  • Best Screen Recording Software for Mac?

Looking for recommendations on a good computer screen recording program, as I'm trying to make a tutorial video, and need to be able to record what I am doing on my computer screen.
Would prefer free, but don't mind paying a bit - quality is most important. Any advice would be appreciated - thanks!

    without doubt - Screenflow
    why ?
because, it is not only a 'grabber', but it includes an 'editor', drop-dead-simple as iMovie, which includes many features ESPECIALLY made for tutorials - e.g. you can zoom-in after recording without quality-loss, you can change cursor-size, highlite, 'print' pressed keys on screen, add a pic-in-pic (if you like your face in your tuts ) ..
    side-note: screen-grabs are off the standards, iM or FinalCut/express support! so, a built-in editor is a ++ ! (the exports/uploads from a SF-project are superb!)
not cheap, but worth every cent!

  • What is the best investment tracking software for macs?

what is the best investment tracking software for macs?

Three issues to consider about an external HD:
    1. Connectivity. In other words, USB 2.0 and Firewire. If you intend to move large chunks of data at once, such as when streaming audio or video for professional applications, then Firewire is better suited for that. Otherwise, for normal applications, USB is ok.
    2. RPMs. In other words, how fast the HD platter spins around. Most consumer HD have a 5400 rpm (rotations per minute) speed. Some HD have a 7200 or even 10,000 rpm spec. The faster the rotation, the faster the access time, the faster information on the HD can be accessed. Not a critical factor unless you deal with audio or video.
    3. Brand. In other words, reliability. Best ones, form my experience, are Seagate and Western Digital. Go for Seagate if you can. I've never had any issues with a Seagate drive. You can also go to your local computer shop and they will have separate drives and enclosures, so you can customize the look and connectivity of your HD.

  • Is Logic Pro the Best Audio Recording Software for Mac?

Couple questions. I do a lot of audio production and work currently. I use a gateway with Cubase, and its not bad, but I feel like I need something mroe high end.
I'm looking at the 17 inch Imac. Does anyone record using this computer? How's it sound? Is there any way to put in a new soundcard or something if i don't like the current one?
Secondly, is logic pro the most advanced and best audio recording software for the mac? Are there others as well?
I know about Pro Tools, but it seems like there isn't anything high end enough that is TOO high end.
Does the Pro version have superior mixing capabilties. I am primarily going to be micing a guitar amp and having a mixer run into a firewire port, and also using a preamp for my guitar direct into the computers USB.
Lastly, how are the mixing features on Logic Pro vs. Logic Express? I do a lot of post production mixing as well, and use VST plugins. Speaking of that, will it accomodate using a drum program like BFD through VST or Midi like Cubase will?
    Thanks for your time guys.

Yes, you do indeed need sth more high end.

It's not an iMac, but a faithful PowerBook G4 that I am using. Apples Core Audio is awesome. Your sound, however, will depend on your interface.

That's why we are here, and that's why you ended up in this forum as well
To me personally, Logic sounds warmer and bigger than any ProTools system I've ever heard. From what yopu described as the work you need to do, there is no comparable application. Logic also offers you many more features above and beyond what you currently need to do.
I know about Pro Tools, but it seems like there isn't
anything high end enough that is TOO high end.
Everybody is using PT, and you should maybe get a Light Edition version of it. However, as stated above, Logic offers by far more possibilities.

capabilties. I am primarily going to be micing a
guitar amp and having a mixer run into a firewire

For your purpose, Logic does have superior mixing capabilities. In my humble opinion, only the popularity of PT made it become the choice of studios and engineers, but things are turning...

Logic Express? I do a lot of post production mixing
as well, and use VST plugins. Speaking of that, will

If you do post production mixing, forget about Logic Express altogether and go for Logic Pro. LP will accomodate tons of plug-ins, and it comes with a bunch of great one's as well!
The format for the plug-ins is called A(udio) U(nit) and works flawlessly. Many VST plug-ins are also available in AU format and the development of those is moving fast forward.
In other words, yes, you will be able to use BFD in Logic by means of the AU format.
    Thanks for your time guys.
    You're welcome.

  • BEST free Subtitler software for MAC !!!

    dudes!!!
    today I've found my "salvation"!!!
For years i've searched for a good subtitler software for Mac which exports
my subtitle file in STL format so that i can open it in DVD STudio Pro.
And I've found just the one!!!
    It's called JUBLER
    http://www.jubler.org/
For more accurate informations, see the website.
but I'm tealling you... I'm almost sure you won't find anything this easy and powerfull to
use... It's not complicated for first users and once you get the hang of it, you can subtitle an entire
30 minutes video in 1 hour tops, depending only on your typing and mouse control speed, lol.
this is definatly worth checking out!
    to all "DVD authorers", cheers!!!
(if you use another one, fell free to share it with us)

    Good morning,
I use one called MovCaptioner and it's great, easy to use, can do closed or open captions (with Quicktime Pro) and can export titles in .stl format to import to DVD Studio Pro. And not to expensive! They even give you a free trial.

  • Which DVD Burn Software for Blu-ray from Folder

Per the recommendation in Steve Grisetti's PrE11 book, I would like to burn to a folder and then to DVD and/or BD-R.  However, based upon the Adware problems with downloading ImgBurn, it does not appear to be the way to go at this time.  I understand using Custom install on their "options", but it appears that even the most knowledgeable people sometimes get caught.
Therefore, what is the recommended software for burning DVDs and Blu-ray DVDs from a folder (for those that don't have old versions of ImgBurn).  I will purchase software if that is the best route.

    Ed
I do not endorse any particular program (up for purchase) for the task of taking video files to DVD-VIDEO, AVCHD format, or Blu-ray disc format on disc. Note that I wrote Nero or program like Nero. One of the app of the Nero program is the "Nero Burning Rom".  Use that in your google search. That is the app in a Nero version that you should need for your task. If interested in Nero for this feature, please check out the Nero web page for the versions that have the Burning Rom and the associated price after you have looked at the tryout. The following is a how to for Burning Rom feature
    http://ftp6.nero.com/user_guides/nero2015/burningrom/NeroBurningRom_en-US.pdf
There are other programs on the market that can accomplish the task. Nero products have a long history of often competing with other programs for the burner, but I have not run into that issue using an OEM version that came with one of my computer burners. All the Burning Rom should be doing is taking your files already in the DVD-VIDEO or BDMV structure to disc, not creating those structures.
In spite of what you have read, I do not consider Premiere Elements burn to folder to be a "native" approach/route to DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc. I see that only as a troubleshooting alternative when the user experiences unsolved Premiere Elements burn to disc issues. Have you run into problems with the Premiere Elements burn to disc - burner not recognized and/or media not present/other?
Looking forward to learning of further developments.

  • DVD Editing Software For MAC?

Hello all. I am going to make this a very short post.
    Quick question
On my windows machine, I used to use a program quite often called TMGEPENC DVD Author. Here is the link:
    http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tda20.html
This software would load a DVD (Directly from the disc. no converting neccisary), and, would let you edit out commercials, and, then, burn it to another disc (or the hard drive)
Note - the reason i would edit commercials, is, I use my stand alone DVD burner hooked to my TV to record different shows so i can watch them on the weekends. it is alot nice than sitting through the commercials.
Can someone please tell me if there is an equivelant to this software in the MAC world? And, if there is, can you please tell me the name of it?
(Well, I thought this post would be shorter than this...lol)
    Gary

Handbrake is another option. While a lot of people like MtR, I have actually had better success with HB instead.
I just forgot to add that to my recommendation.
I took a European PAL DVD and extracted it to MPEG4 files with HB, then imported them to iMovie and did the edits, fades, and transitions. I then used iDVD to make the menus and burn to DVD.
It turned out very nice indeed, especially since it was done with software that was either bundled with my iMac or free.

  • What is the best video editing software for Mac?

I am trying to edit videos, specifically .wmv and .mpg files to put in PowerPoint presentations. What is the best software for cropping movies as well as cutting different scenes out of video (i.e. making a 2 minute video into a 30 second video). Thanks so much for the help.

iMovie will not edit WVM nor MPEG-1. You would need to convert the movies to one of the formats iMovie can accept before you could edit them. If you will need the movies to remain or end up in WMV or MPEG-1, I'd suggest looking to a different editor. StreamClip might work for just doing basic editing:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
To edit WMV you'll need the paid Flip4Mac plugin from Telestream:
    http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac/
