Best DVD Burning Settings?

Using Toast 7 and .img file, what is the best DVD media to use, and what are the best Toast 7 settings to use in burning a DVD?
Thanks,
Stuart

Use 'minus' media and write at a low speed (2x - but not higher than 4x).

  • What is the best DVD burner?

What is the best DVD burner for a G4 Dual? Internal or external? Brand? I am having burn problems wherein some burned DVDs do not run. I use a burn speed of 1xDVD with Toast 7 and an image file.
    Thanks,
    Stuart

Many like the Pioneer (DVR-110D) or NEC (ND-3550A) brand. Since you have an MDD, I'd install a new drive underneath the original (if the original drive is still good). My MDD has the original Pioneer DVR-104 and a new DVR-110D. Internal drives are much less expensive that external drives (~$40 for OEM drive versus $179 for boxed external). I was able to get Toast Titanium for $39 (with rebates) and the 110D for $40.

  • What is the best dvd burning program with a nice menu like idvd that works with Final cut pro

What is the best dvd burning program with a nice menu like idvd that works with Final cut pro, I am wanting to burn mainly wedding dvds but also sports and other things we used to use idvd but then upgraded our computers and now we dont have it. idvd was the only thing i could find that worked.
    Thanks

There is no real substitute for iDVD.
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3673
To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • Please recommend best DVD burning program and external burner

My FCPX "Share" will no longer burn a DVD on my MacPro 1,1 via the "DVD" destination. However I can send it to "Master File" and it will make a high quality .mov file. I've then tested using Roxio Toast on a 2 minute .mov clip and it did burn a DVD, but the quality was very, very poor. (Much worse than the DVD that I used to be able to get via FCPX Share).
Your thoughts on: 1) Why does FCPX --> Share --> DVD no longer work/ how to fix it?  and 2) Can you recommend the best DVD burning program and external burner? With thanks! Duncan

Toast should give you the highest possible quality so you are obviously doing something wrong.
The only thing I don't like about Toast are the menus  .  .  .  which are total rubbish compared with iDVD.
You should also be able to burn DVDs from FCP X so once again you are either doing something wrong or there is a problem with your FCP X setup or computer.
Try trashing the preferences  using this free app.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
    1. Ensure that  FCP X  is selected.
    2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.
There is absolutely no danger in trashing preferences and you can do it as often as you like.
The preferences are kept separately from FCP X and if there aren't any when FCP X opens it automatically creates new ones  .  .  .  instantly.

  • Best DVD Burning Software for My Powerbook

I just got a burner and was curious as to what the best software for burning was?

The point is Popcorn does two things - compresses non-protected DVD media to fit a single DVD and some file conversions many of which you can cover with QT pro or MPEG Streamclip.
Toast 7 does as well plus is a full service DVD /CD writiing program. Popcorn came out while Toast 6 existed which did not compress.
For some reason Roxio still pitches Popcorn 2 and tries to sell it relentlessly to Toast 7 owners at a discount, which makes no sense. Since Toast 7 has the technology. I guess I should not be surprised as Roxio still pitches the new Toast 7 to people who already upgraded at a discount to Toast 7. From Roxio.
As for a DVD burning program, it is not that at all - it is a MPEG-2 compressor and that is the extent of its value other than file conversions. You cannot make data discs or anything else since that would limit sales of Toast 7.
The OP wanted a DVD burning program not a one hit wonder. Too bad you bought Popcorn, no need to flog it to people who want better.

  • What is the best DVD burner to buy for use with my Mac?

I have a MacMini with a DVD player/CD burner. I would like to buy an external DVD burner for use with the MacMini and my Tiger OS. Could I get some thoughts on purchasing a good external burner and using the best burning program with it. Thanks

    Paul,
    LaCie d2 DVD±RW with LightScribe http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=10113
$179.99 includes full version Toast 7
    $129.99 includes Toast 6 Lite
The $129.99 unit that comes with Toast 6 Lite can be found on the web for a lot less. Later, if you outgrow Toast 6 you can upgrade to Toast 8 (which is the latest version).
    External Multi-Format DVD RecorderDRX-830UL/T $129.00

My experience with Lacie and Sony burners has always been positve and Toast is good to have around, it's always complimented iDVD well (in addition to having a host of other useful features).
    Note:
I'm not familiar with any of Toast 6 lite's features, but I do know you can burn DVD's with it. It adds another means of authoring a DVD outside of iDVD.

  • Best dvd burner for Mac mini

What brand of DVD burner is most compatible with the Mac Mini? I haven't found one that specifically lists Mac OS in the specifications information.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Many brands are compatible, including Pioneer for example, but for the Mac mini, I'd start with http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/mac-mini/superdrive/ for internal and http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/ for externals. Of the latter, http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MRBFWU2D112/ would be my own choice for DVD burner at reasonable price.
This supplier specializes in Mac peripherals, and these devices will certainly work. There are other suppliers and other brands of course, but the above is a good place to start.

  • Best DVD burning program

Well, since BURN doesn't work with Mavericks anymore, and iDVD isn't around (as far as  I know), has anyone got any recommendations on a a good (preferably free, or maybe inexpensive) DVD burning program?
    thanks
    John B

    a quick followup:
went out and bought toast. tried to encode video DVD from mpeg-4 files, which seems to go okay, then when it goes to burn the DVD it gives me something about a "sense error" , says 'sorry, the dvd couldn't be created" and then that's it. I'm using Verbatim AZO DVD-R's which used to work for me okay.  Hmmm---maybe bad batch??
I have a stock dvd burner in my Mac Pro
other relevant stuff (or not) OS: 10.9.3, Ram: 10 gig, HD space: 4 TB, video card sapphine HD7950 3 gig VRAM
well, that's it...I'm stumped for right now....any help appreciated
    thanks

  • What is the best DVD burner for Mac OS Lion

I've recently bought a new iMac Lion desktop and was very disappointed to find out that I can't download DVD burning software. Is iSkysoft an okay software to use and is it better than iMovie.
I have also lost recent imports from my camcorder to iMovie because it shuts down!! I can't believe the new iMac SHUTS down unexpectedly!!!! I thought only PCs would do that!!! I am really annoyed.
Any ideas on how to find that hour of video on my computer?
    thanks
    J

Obviously you are having an issue with iMovie. I would recommend you begin trouble shooting that issue before looking for replacment software. There is an iMovie forum you can post to, also if you have purchased AppleCare or the machine is less than 90 days old you have AppleCare coverage and a possible solution is only a phone call away.

  • Best DVD burner software for mac

I have made some simple movies I want to burn to DVD with menu options.  What is the best (at a reasonable cost) burner softwar to puchase. Have done some research and read the reviews but still confussed.

Handbrake to copy to avi or mp4(I use it for watching my DVD's on the go, so my battery lasts for a longer time)
I think MP4 is better quallity.
To copy a DVD: simply use Toast (maybe withe popcorn, but I don't use it).
But, be legal! This is a forum, and anyone can see your posts!

  • What is the best dvd burning software

what is the best software to use on my macbook pro to burn videos from a video camera sd card onto a dvd

If you actually want to create a DVD that can be watched on any DVD player, you'll need some DVD authoring software. Apple used to sell iDVD, which was great and very simple, but it's been discontinued now. You can, however, still get it if you buy one of the iLife '11 packages from Amazon. You also could use Roxio's Toast Titanium (new version out just now) 12. There are some shareware apps out there, I believe, but I'm only familiar with iDVD and Toast.
    Good luck,

  • Best DVD compression settings?

    Hello,
I have several longer movies that I have made adding up to around 24 gb ( exported in quicktime using .264h). I plan on using DVD-9 dual layer discs so 8.5 gb. I have downloaded handbrake compressor and was wondering if the software is a waste of my time and I should get a different one? I also want to know the best settings I can have so that I dont run out of room on the DVD. Thank You!

    sorry for sounding rude, but:
    • file size doesn't matter
    • export to h.264 is of no use, harms quality only
    • Handbrake is of no use for creating disks (it's a ripper/converter, no creator)
export a 'master file' of your Project from FCPX, to avoid lossy&useless 'intermediates'; file-size is probably around 40GB/h - don't worry
what you need is an authoring tool - which converts (final codec is mp2), resizes (final res is 720x480) and 'muxx' your video, finally creates the standard-compliant file structure ( _ts/vob etc), and disk-format (udf) for  videoDVD.
Use Toast or iDVD. Very convenient tools. Stay under 1h content for max. quality on SL-DVDr; using DL-DVDr for projects <2h is of no use.-
In case, you own legacy FC/pro, use DVDSP (very little convenient, esp. compared to Toast/iDVD, but tons of additinal options, e.g. menu desing/features).

  • Best DVD burning options

For years I have been creating DVD's on DVD Pro, Building it, putting the Video_ts and Audio in a folder, and then creating a burn folder. I archive all of the stuff for the school that I make and sell like that. However, in using that method, my mac would never read the DVD's that I would burn, and I'd have students bring back the DVD's because some wouldn't work. Not a lot, but some.
Today, a friend showed me a disc that he burned out of DVD studio pro, and it read on my computer. The DVD's that I burned through DVD studio pro did as well.
What's the best way to burn AND archive DVD's in you guys' opinion? I don't have Toast (to my knowledge), and I'm starting to think that burning DVD's for sale works better and is more reliable out of DVD Studio instead of creating a burn folder and putting my Video/Audio files in there.
Of course, I've got to archive them, so I'll eventually have to use my old method. I'm thinking that using studio will work better. Any opinions?

You're actually making it more complicated than it needs to be - there's no need to open up the disc image file and drag the folders to a disc. All you need to do is use Disk Utility to burn the image file directly to a disc. This also ensures that the disc format is correct.
See the following article on how to burn a disc image with Disk Utility: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh1884.html
Toast is a third-party disc burning program. A lot of people (including myself) like it as it can do a lot more than Disk Utility can. However, for basic burning needs, Disk Utility or the Finder's burning capabilities will suffice.
