Best DVD training for FCS2?

What's the best DVD based training for Final Cut Studio 2? I'm used to editing and NLE, but this is my first expierence with Final Cut and I need to get up to speed rather quickly!
Thanks!
-Glen

Well, since FCP 6 is still VERY new, there might not be much. But this is a great set for FCP 5.

  • What is the best DVD Creator for a Mac Book Pro to replace iDVD?

What is the Best DVD Creator for a Mac Book Pro to replace iDVD?  Have Maverick OS.

I have already looked at other threads in this forum, so 'I venture forth' to ask my question here:
I have a 44 minute carefully edited iMovie with several chapter markers. I dimly recollect that when you 'dump' the entire movie into iDVD (my version is 7.1) it should detect the markers and create buttons to link to specific scenes. Well, the 'dumping' process obviously doesn't work.
How do you get iDVD to recognize the markers and ceate buttons to link?
I can create with iDVD a DVD that will play the movie in its entirety. This is not suitable for my purposes. I need access via a menu to specific scenes.
    Thank you,
    Klaus

  • Best DVD Media for Burning

    Hey guys,
I just bought a new macbook. Any recommendations on a specific brand of dvd I should buy. Please post a link based on your recommendations of the specific product you are referring too. Thanks for your help.

Go to cdfreaks.com "Blank Media" forum and have a read:

Here's a poll for the best DVD+ media:

DVD+R Taiyo Yuden are rated the best for long term storage. With DVD+R Mitsubishi / Verbatim recommended second.
Here' a poll for the best DVD- media for long term storage:

Results are the same as DVD+.
It's a very interesting forum...basically users looking for the perfect burn. I've replaced my old Apple 2X DVD burner in my QuickSilver with a $30.00 LiteON (Sony) 16X burner and flashed it with CD Freaks firmware for perfect and faster burns...or close to it anyway. But you'll need to use Windows machine to update firmware...pain in the butt!

  • DVD Training for FCP 5.0, which one???

    Hello everyone,
Could someone give me some suggestions about training in DVD format for FCP 5.0? I am a beginner to FCP and I would like to know how basic stuff works... At the moment, I have 3 choices from DigitalMediaTraining (DMTS), RippleTraining and Total Training (www.totaltraining.com) but I am confused since their offers may be too high (or too low ;)) to me...So please, give me some hints for this. Which one you like to best?
Thank you very much for your time and effort.
    Kind regards,
    James

Run the tutorials and be prepared to be frustrated and confused. it's a big application.
Play with a few simple projects.
Then you MUST do the tutorials again. They will make much more sense the second time because you now know where the menus are and understand of the basic interface language.
Look at your budget. Decide what you want to spend and what you want to learn. The APTS books are great and come with several interesting and challenging editing tasks. The second volume for FCP5, "Advanced Editing Techniques", just hit the shelves. It's fabulous but it's all about the craft of editing. It's not about how to run the application. So if you're making films and never went to school, that's the book you want.
If you want to learn the application, Brian Maffit's Total Training series is, without any doubt, the best way to do the job. I have all of the available training resources for FCP3 through 5. None are as well done nor as innovative and exploratory as Brian's set of disks.

  • Best online training for FCP X

I'm looking for good online training for FCP X 10.1.2
For me it's important that you get training videos that are updated (and not show e.g. FCP 10.0).
I'd also like to have access to some exercises, but not documentary material (which is not my thing), but exercises for movies, TV, and story-oriented shorts.

My degree is educational psychology, I've been teaching FCP since version 4, been teaching all of the Final Cut Studio apps since FCS2, been teaching apps for various software companies for 3 decades.  Here's my professional evaluation.
The "Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro X, Professional Post-Production" by Brendan Boykin is hands down the BEST book on the market.  The eBook version has been updated to version 10.0.2, also.  If you purchase the eBook version from Peachpit Press, you get the EPUB, PDF, and MOBI versions all together, and the updates for the EPUB are free.
Online, the best training will be Ripple Training, by far.

  • Best DVD format for burning Using iDVD '09?

I have created some movies using iMovie with recordings from my digital camcorder. What is the best DVD format to use when burning them to disc using iDVD? I am new to this. Thanks

    I mean, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, etc. Thanks
I have found DVD+R to be more reliable than DVD-R. The only disadvantage to DVD+R is that DVD players manufacture before 2003 may not play them.
I would recommend Taiyo Yuden DVD+Rs. (I get excellent results using iMovie 06 with iDVD 11.)

What is the reason for using something less than the maximum burn speed? Thanks.
    I burn at 4X.
Burning too slow is often just as bad as burning too fast. Rule of thumb is to burn at 1/2 the max speed of the media's max.
"But believe it or not, there are still people who insist on waiting 55-60 minutes to burn a CD or DVD at 1x speed, because they are convinced anything faster will yield a bad or "lower" quality burn. However, burning too slow is often just as bad as burning too fast. Because of this unreasonable impulse to go too slow, some discs and drives now block out the lower range too"

  • Best DVD quality for 136 minute project

    Hello!
I am putting together DVD's for a show from a local theatre. The runtime is around 136 minutes HD video shot with a Sony HDR-HC3.
I did a rough copy to give to the director and used the 120 minute DVD settings in compressor. The quality was terrible and definitely not what i want for the final project. The HD video looks really good, and i've seen HD to SD DVD's still look pretty darn good on a decent TV.
So what is probably by best option for exporting into DVD Studio? If you need any other details please let me know.
    Thanks

what frame rate is your original material and what is the frame rate of your sequence?  If your original material is 23.98 fps, make sure you maintain that frame rate thru your workflow.  Adding compression markers in fcp around sections that have a lot of movement or are particularly complex may help.  Just make sure you include compression markers when you export to compressor.
Also, deleting all renders and sending to compressor from within fcp may give you a bit more quality.
And using a dual layer dvd will allow you to compress at a higher quality.  Unfortunately burned dual layer dvd's may not be as compatible as replicated dvds.

Would like to convert all of my kids DVD movies to my Mac for play on AppleTV and iPods/iPads.  What is the best software for doinng this.  I am willing to pay up to $50 for the software as I would like a high quality and fast, fast, fast conversion rate.

If you have an Apple computer, you can get a software called "Video Converter Ultimate" from the Apps store. It works well. It is available for both Windows and Mac. It is a free download.

  • Best dvd burner for Mac mini

What brand of DVD burner is most compatible with the Mac Mini? I haven't found one that specifically lists Mac OS in the specifications information.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Many brands are compatible, including Pioneer for example, but for the Mac mini, I'd start with http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/mac-mini/superdrive/ for internal and http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/ for externals. Of the latter, http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MRBFWU2D112/ would be my own choice for DVD burner at reasonable price.
This supplier specializes in Mac peripherals, and these devices will certainly work. There are other suppliers and other brands of course, but the above is a good place to start.

  • What is the best DVD burner for Mac OS Lion

I've recently bought a new iMac Lion desktop and was very disappointed to find out that I can't download DVD burning software. Is iSkysoft an okay software to use and is it better than iMovie.
I have also lost recent imports from my camcorder to iMovie because it shuts down!! I can't believe the new iMac SHUTS down unexpectedly!!!! I thought only PCs would do that!!! I am really annoyed.
Any ideas on how to find that hour of video on my computer?
    thanks
    J

Obviously you are having an issue with iMovie. I would recommend you begin trouble shooting that issue before looking for replacment software. There is an iMovie forum you can post to, also if you have purchased AppleCare or the machine is less than 90 days old you have AppleCare coverage and a possible solution is only a phone call away.

  • What is the best DVD burner?

What is the best DVD burner for a G4 Dual? Internal or external? Brand? I am having burn problems wherein some burned DVDs do not run. I use a burn speed of 1xDVD with Toast 7 and an image file.
    Thanks,
    Stuart

Many like the Pioneer (DVR-110D) or NEC (ND-3550A) brand. Since you have an MDD, I'd install a new drive underneath the original (if the original drive is still good). My MDD has the original Pioneer DVR-104 and a new DVR-110D. Internal drives are much less expensive that external drives (~$40 for OEM drive versus $179 for boxed external). I was able to get Toast Titanium for $39 (with rebates) and the 110D for $40.

  • Required Training for Storage CCIE

    Hello everybody.
I want to know what is the recommended path of courses in order to get the necessary theory and practice for the Storage CCIE.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards

    Hi marcus,
    Welcome.
Its really very good to hear .
    al the best.
the training for the above four types can be......
The training for regular users should be on basics.Intially they should be trained on basics and then they have to be trained on advanced concepts.
level support is some wat advanced concepts and they should be mainly trained don support , quality and resources.
basis is entirely different.you have to brush with intial stick onwards.
for managers you can only train on effective management skills.thats enough
again the duties will be different for a training manager,hr manager, admin manager.
catch the difference and do accordingly.....
    thanks

  • What is the best video converter for DVD to iMovie? Either free or to purchase.

What is the best video converter for DVD to iMovie? Either free or to purchase.  And one that is 'fool-proof' and very easy to use.  Many thanks, anyone who can advise.

You want to 'reverse engineer' the compressed mpeg2 DVD file back to something iMovie can use?
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.
